5.0 out of 5 stars.  Amazing!, June 27, 2011
By Frederick Steven Gray (Minneapolis, MN)
I already had a nice Giro Atmos helmet, but when I saw this in the bike shop, I had to have it! It was remarkably light, noticeably lighter than even the other high-end helmets. It looks great, and it fits me even better than the Atmos. The Atmos would press into the very front center of my head just enough to be annoying on long rides. The Aeon, in the same size, fits perfectly all the way around. Reviews of the ultra-light Prolight panned the ventilation, but the Aeon, at a just few grams heavier, is breezy. The Roc Loc works great, even better than the previous Roc Loc iterations. The straps are a lighter, more flexible material, so they almost disappear compared to the thicker, stiffer straps of the Atmos. The price is steep, but I find it to be worth it, even when upgrading from an already nice helmet. It looks good on my head too, and not like a watermelon like so many others.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  giro aeon, June 1, 2011
By K. Troy
I like Giro's attempt at cycling helmets but I am continually disappointed. Three complaints about this helmet: 1. Large hole (vent) in middle front of head leaving skull open to stabbing from spike, handlebar end, etc. 2. front top of helmet in field of vision while wearing 3. Rocklock 5 system still doesnt go up high enough to not ride on tops of my ears. Good luck and pity for Giro.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best Helmet I have Experienced, August 9, 2011
By PhantomFlyer
This helmet fits great and flows tons of air. I ride in South Carolina where summer temps are routinely in the mid to high 90's with 60% to 70% relative humidity. I can honestly say that after riding two hours plus I have forgotten the helmet was on! On top of the comfor factor, you can actually adjust the headband easily while riding. This level of comfort is well worth the price.

By C. Parker (Tampa, FL)
This is a great helment...light and lets the air flow thur a lot better than my older heavier Bell helmet. I would recomend it to anyone who wants tos spend the cash. For me it was worth it on these hot August days.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Fantastic helmet!, March 30, 2012
By Betsy W. (Sunnyvale, CA USA)
Feels like nothing at all - I really love this helmet.

Previously I used to get sweat dripping onto my glasses while working harder and/or for long periods but this helmet feels so light and so airy that it is just like riding without any helmet.

You feel the wind in your hair and all the sweat evaporates before streaming down onto your face. Size-wise it adjusts with a nice little switch for a perfect and firm fit.

It also scores very highly for looks in my book if you can imagine any helmet looking good. The only bad thing about this helmet is the high price tag. But then my head is worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  awesome helmet, November 22, 2011
By Kika
I purchased this helmet not seeing it and not knowing exactly how it would fit but once it arrived and I put it on, I was not disappointed. This helmet is amazingly light and very comfortable. In fact, I have never felt a helmet this comfortable. I've owned numerous giro helmets in the past and this one is the best ever. what adds to its amazing comfort is its chinstraps which are light, thin, but strong. once you have it strapped, you hardly know its there. aesthetically, this helmet is very attractive. It has a very nice low and shapely profile which is a joy to look at. More importantly though, it actually looks good on the head. This was the first time I ever looked in the mirror while wearing a helmet and didn't see an egghead staring back at me. Not that it should matter as helmets are for protection but it doesn't hurt to have a helmet that actually looks great on the wearer. this helmet is not cheap but you will definitely get what you pay for if you decide to get it. This helmet is totally worth it in my opinion.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best Helmet Ever, November 4, 2011
By Atlanta Consumer
I tried many helmets and the Giro Aeon is the best I have ever found. It fits great with many adjustments. It's light (222 grams in medium), comfortable, and well ventilated. The workmanship is excellent, with quality straps and removable padding that can go through a washing machine. I'm on my second Aeon, the first one having done its job in a major crash, with the helmet staying firmly in place and absorbing the blow when my head hit the pavement. The Giro Aeon may cost a bit more than other helmets, but it is well worth the price. I encourage anyone considering a Giro Aeon to check the fit and measure carefully. I wear a large in most other helmets, but the Aeon medium fits perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome Helmet!!!, September 3, 2011
By SS-3 (Jackson, NJ United States)
The helmet is great! It is super light; I barely notice it is on my head. The venting is superb, we have been getting clobbered with 100 plus degree days in the NJ and this helmet has kept me cool during my rides. I'm convinced the venting keeps me cooler than if I were wearing no helmet at all, which I will not do, even for testing purposes. However, the way the vents are cut makes it feel like you have ceiling fan above your head. I am basically trying to say that the helmet is very lightweight and the venting is great. The new material used for the straps makes a huge difference in comfort. They are super lightweight and feel really good against my face and chin, I hardly notice they're there as well. The RocLoc 5 system is a vast improvement over the older systems. It lets you micro dial-in the tension adjustments. Overall I could not be more pleased with this purchase. It was expensive but worth every penny in my opinion because head protection is the most important thing when riding. Shorts, gloves, shoes, etc. are all secondary to head protection IMHO.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  One of d best bike helmets ever !!!, May 1, 2012
By Rapasan
I was looking for other helmet model same brand, I wanted a Ionos but it was out of stock everywhere, so I bought Giro Aeon, and for me is one of the best bike helmets that I ever had. Very light, amazing air circulation and quite confortable, it is too light that sometimes I forgot that I have it on. Also it has a lot of tech in its desing. Value for your money as it is not a cheap product. I am glad that I pay for it and evry time that I use it I think that it was a very good adquisition.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Stop looking at the price, its worth more than what they ask..., April 30, 2012
By Clifford F. Eclarino
I have to admit, I am not the most experienced rider but I am very particular about my gear. I do ride all day on the weekends and the helmet has to be one of the most critical investments a person can make. So far I have tried a Specialized Echelon, Bell Volt, Giro Saros, and most recently the Giro Aeon. First off I wish I made this purchase to start with then I woudn't have even bothered with the rest. This helmet is lightweight, has excellent ventailation, looks slick, and extremely comfortable. Also with my head size 59cm, this puts me in the Medium size, as opposed to other Large sizes. This works out so I don't have a monsterous dome cover on my head. It is pricey, but it is also the most important safety equipment one can buy so why skimp on protecting your head. The weight savings (over 120gs in some cases) may not seem a lot, but after 6 hours in the saddle it makes a difference in comfort. I love the adjustability of the roc loc system makes for a perfect fit. I wouldn't hestitate to buy this helmet if you are commited to cycling or are a serious hobbyiest like myselft. When in doubt, try one on for size at your local shop and use their fitting measurement as a true way to determine your helmet size.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very light and comfortable, February 12, 2012
By golfnbike
I wasn't sure of the other reviews talking about comfort and lightness but they are correct. Further, the new roc 5 adjustment is 50 times better. I have 2 other Giro helmets, both top of the line when I bought them but this is the best Giro helmet yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  If you can afford it, buy it!, January 10, 2012
By TimF
Awesome helmet, but expensive.

If you want something less expensive and/or can't rationalize the cost of the Aeon, you'll need to find a more affordable alternative. The Aeon is Giro's top-of-the-line helmet so it carries a premium pricetag.

I've upgraded to this helmet from a 10-year old Giro Pneumo. Replacement was necessary since the internal foam in all cycling helmets gets increasingly brittle with time. Brittle foam = broken head in a crash.

Best Features:

Low weight - I put this thing on the scale right out of the box and it was exactly 218 grams (that's Giro's published spec for a medium sized Aeon helmet). It's so light that when I first bought it, I was wearing it around the house to get the fit dialed-in and literally forgot I was wearing it.

Fit & comfort - the fit of the Aeon is a noticeable improvement over my old Pneumo (10-year old technology). The Roc-Loc 5 system provides uniform pressure all around the head and the lightly padded internal bracing where the helmet contacts your head is unobtrusive. I have a 22-1/2" head measurement and the medium size fit perfectly. A small size was do-able, but slightly small with no room for wintertime accessories. Large size was way too big. The new lightweight straps are thin, smooth and comfortable, and the newly designed buckles are about half the size of those on my Pneumo.

Roc-Loc 5 - I test fit this helmet as well as several of the Bell helmet offerings, and the Giro Roc-Loc 5 micro-adjustment is superior to the Bell Twin Axis Gear (TAG) system. Bell's top-of-the-line Volt was either too loose or too tight. The Roc-Loc detents are about half as large as those of the Bell TAG, so very small incremental adjustments can be made with the Giro helmet. The Roc-Loc 5 also has fore-aft adjustment to properly position the helmet foreward or backward on your head (equivalent to the Bell system). The Aeon is rock-solid and doesn't wobble around on your head. Put it on, adjust the Roc-Loc if necessary, and it's basically immobile.

Ventilation - "more hole than helmet" as Giro used to say. Tons of ventilation. Looking at somebody wearing the Aeon, you can literally see right through it from the front. The internal air channels (visible when you flip the helmet over) are sculpted to enhance streamlined airflow across your scalp.

Some reviews criticize the pads as too thin. I presume the pads are thin so they don't become soggy sponges. If the rest of the helmet fits correctly, cushy pads aren't necessary. The Aeon pads are also anti-microbial and machine washable.

My only criticism is that the chinstrap keeps loosening and has to be tightened more frequently than I'd like. Nothing that can't be fixed with a few stitches of thread though, and this minor "flaw" may actually be an intentional design feature - automatically adjusting chinstrap tension?

Overall: Awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best Giro Helmet Yet!, April 25, 2012
By Timazon (Hauppauge, NY USA)
Yes, it's a bit pricy, but this is the best Giro helmet yet, and I've owned many Giro helmets over 30+ years of riding. It's incredibly lightweight at about 220 grams (under 8 ounces), and the RocLoc5 fit system is very easy to use and adjust, a real improvement over the not-so-easy RocLoc4 system. On the road it's very comfortable, well ventilated, and fits securely without being too tight. To adjust how snug it is while riding you can just reach back and turn the RocLoc5 dial, and the adjustments increments are very fine, so it's easy to get the exact fit you need.

Also, when you need to take off the helmet a quick twist of the RocLoc5 dial makes removing the helmet very easy.

Giro also includes an extra set of pads, which are attached by velcro and easy to change out. I've found that helmet padding does wear, so an extra set is a plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Fit and looks are excellent, March 21, 2012
By Bill (North Windham Conn.)
I just got this helmet and haven't gotten to ride with it yet. But i can tell you i think i will like it a lot. I like the fit system it's like my Bontrager mountain helmet. I always thought i took a size large but I'm glad i asked them about that. I'm a medium with these guys. I can tell already i will be able to see ahead very easily.. with my mountain helmet i had to lift my head high which was a pain in the neck. Oh and this was real easy to adjust fit. I had it adjusted in 5 minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Comfortable and Super Light, March 13, 2012
By me
This is my first high end helmet, and it was worth it. It was easy to adjust and fits my head like a glove. Everyone that has picked up this helmet comments on how light it is. The vents are huge, and offer great ventilation.
