4.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent Telemetry Strap, February 10, 2010
By A. Kamenick (San Francisco, CA)
I purchased this telemetry strap to use while working out at the gym. Almost all the cardio machines at my gym have Polar receivers and can display my heart rate from this transmitter without having to hold on to the physical sensors. This may not seem like a big win, but it's much more comfortable to walk on a treadmill or use an elliptical machine without having to hold on to heart rate sensors.

Using the strap is easy: you just wrap it around your chest, connect the loose end of the strap to the sensor and moisten the contacts. There is no on/off button so you don't have to worry about anything except for putting it on. It is fairly comfortable to wear, and I don't really notice when it is on. The whole thing is made out of plastic and the strap is elastic. The build quality is excellent and it is completely waterproof.

The strap is 'coded' which means that you don't have to worry about interference from other people wearing straps around the gym. This works with the polar wrist-watches, but I have found that the 'coding' doesn't work with the Life Fitness treadmills/elliptical machines or the Precor elliptical machines at my gym. Your mileage may vary, but if the person next to me on the machine is also wearing a telemetry strap, the machine will get confused and vary wildly in its reading. Sometimes it will display my heart rate, and others it will display the person next to me. This is more a problem of the proximity of the machines. If the other person is one machine away, there is no problem with interference. I haven't found this to be a big deal, if I need to I just move one machine over.

Pros:
+ Fully waterproof
+ Excellent build quality
+ Comfortable
+ Accurate

Cons:
- Interference with other transmitters nearby in gym (this is a problem with the receiver on the equipment, not the strap).

Bottom Line: Excellent strap to use with a watch. If you are using in a gym with a receiver on a machine, be prepared to deal with some interference if there is another transmitter within 5-10 feet.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  A good buy, October 7, 2008
By runandwrite (Orange County, CA United States)
I was frankly a little concerned that, despite the product description and picture, the item might not include the elastic strap with the transmitter, since Amazon listed the strap as an item frequently purchased with this item. In case anyone else is concerned, yes, it does come with the elastic strap!

The transmitter works well in general, although I've noticed it gives me trouble when running near power lines -- I don't know if anyone has found a way to prevent that yet.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  worth buying, July 25, 2010
By Anna
I have owned a polar hrm and transmitter before and love it.I wanted the same quality, so when my polar transmitters battery life was exhaustd, I purchased the same transmitter.NO regrets!!!Polar T31 Coded Transmitter and Belt Set Do not bother sending your polar transmitter to the company after the battery wears out not worth the money--too expensive. You can purchase a new transmitter for half the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great for swimming!, August 1, 2011
By Angela Rivera
The Wearlink transmitter that came with my Polar FT40 just wouldn't pick up my heart rate in the pool, and swimming is pretty much the exercise I do. So when I lost it, I wasn't too broken-hearted. Instead of replacing it with the same, I bought this model, thinking it might be more watertight, as it's one piece. It works wonderfully! Unfortunately, I can't directly compare the two as I've also begun wearing the transmitter strap so that the contacts are on my back (and upside-down to keep right and left on their proper sides, in case that matters)--this was also said to help get a good heart rate when in the water.
The only downside is that this model won't let me change my own battery when it eventually dies. Honestly, I consider this a small price to pay as I can now actually track my workouts. Plus, as this design doesn't have a small part, it is far less likely to get lost or absconded with by a pet or kid.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Exercise Transmitter, April 3, 2008
By F. Blakeslee
The product works perfectly. It was an exact replacement for the one my dog chewed up and I was very pleased to find it online. Better still, after doing some research, I found that your price was the lowest of all vendors (including the actual manufacturer, which by the way had one of the highest prices)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Reliable and inexpensive alternative, September 14, 2011
By DEREK MADEJ (Brecksville, OH USA)
I have purchased the Polar T31Coded Transmitter and Belt Set from Amazon as a replacement for my old transmitter and belt. Before bying this set, I have considered replacing just the battery itself but the cost and headache for doing it were both not worth it. Also, there was nothing even close in the price range at the Dick's Sporting Goods that I could find as these parts are not being sold by the stores. I have to say that I am NOT using the original wrist watch that came with this set due to the fact that all of the Precor aerobic machines in our gym support this set by directly reading the heart rate from the belt transmitter and displaying it on the console. It is a much better and more convinient option for me not to have to check the wrist watch and play with it so the compatibility with other exercise equipment is something I care about a lot.
This product is very reliable as it took over 12 years for a battery to wear-out before I had to replace it. I am strongly recommending this product based on its longevity, durability, quality, compatibility with other equipment, and price affortibility.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I use it without the watch at the gym!, July 21, 2010
By Potamus Press
KISS; Keep It Simple Sweetie!

I wanted something that would tell me what my heart rate was at the gym on their cardio equipment without holding the heart rate sensors. This transmits to the equipment even if I am not using the F4 watch and heart rate display.

This does a great job of letting me know if I am in my target heart rate zone or not!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, June 14, 2010

Polar has always been my only selection for heart rate monitors. I am a competetive athlete that requires such a quality and accurate piece of equipment and this HRM definitely provides that.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works for swimming, March 7, 2011
By BobDeMac
I purchased this because I read reviews about the transmitter that ships with my FT40 that said it isn't very reliable in water - loses signal. I wanted to track my heart rate in the pool as well as during my other activities. I've found this transmitter very reliable and comfortable both in and out of the water.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  It works~!, January 30, 2011
By Lovin'Amazonchica
This is a replacement piece from a lost/stolen WearLink coded transmitter. In comparison this strap is much less comfortable; make sure it's in a comfortable position before going on a long run or hard work out, i had a little chafing under my bra and on my stomach area because i didn't have it attached snug enough. Also it takes longer to pick up the reading and can lose it if you reposition. Overall it works well, it does what it's suppose to. But if i had a choice i would've spent the extra 20 bucks and got the more comfortable WearLink Coded transmitter. If you use this piece daily for more than an hour strongly consider just that, but if you wear it a couple times a week for shorter workouts the Polar T31 will do the job just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Changed the way I work out, February 9, 2012
By C. Keys (Houston, TX)
I purchased this heart rate monitor transmitter to replace the one I lost. I use a Polar F6 (A few years older model) and it works flawlessly with it. I'm 6'2" with a 42" chest and this strap fits comfortably with little adjusting. When I'm working out I don't feel it and the slender form factor doesn't show through my clothes when I'm exercising, but I suppose it could if you wore tighter fitting clothing such as those Under Armor shirts or a bicycling shirt.

The transmitter communicates well with the Precor machines at my gym, however I have noticed that it reads about 1 BPM off between my watch & the exercise machine. It's not that big of a deal, it's just something to point out. Using the Polar brand, you're introduced to the OwnZone, which is a custom tailored heart rate range for the day. It's really a great tool to use. I now focus on getting my heartrate into that range as quick as I can and keep it there throughout my workout. Make sure you read the instructions and wet the transmitter areas before you work out. This will help transmitting and if the exercise machine you're on isn't reading properly, I found that moving the band down a 0.5" to 1" will make it start reading normally.

I've heard the big negative to this device is that the battery must be changed by the factory and it's less expensive to replace the entire product. With an approximate 1-3 year battery life, I'll probably purchase another rather than send it in and wait for the turn around.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Cyclists - this is the one you want, December 15, 2011
By K. Partin (Ohio)
Forget the Polar Wearlink strap. You'd think a replaceable battery would be worth it, but it's not. Your sweat will oxidize the buttons and internals while you use it, and no amount of rinsing or cleaning after will stop it. By the time the battery needs replacing (or even before), it's ready for the trash.

I never had any of these issues with the T31. Yes, the battery wears out, and I end up buying a new one yearly, but it beats the continuously declining performance and hassle of replacing a battery and having it work worse than before it was replaced (referring to the Wearlink again). I find it comfortable for cycling, and hardly notice it's there. I've also never had an issue with picking up someone else's HR when riding in a group.

But it's not without flaws. As with all HRMs I've used, power lines will sometimes make it go crazy. Additionally, on rare occassions with my jersey open descending quickly, something about it gives inaccurate readings as well. That's a problem I had with the Wearlink also though. Because of these issues, I can't give it a 5, but it is certainly the leader of the pack.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Exactly what I ordered, November 28, 2011

Arrived fast and as advertised. No problems at all. I would recommend this sealed version of transmitter over those with replaceable batteries, since the latter always tend to malfunction after replacing battery.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, inconsistent customer support, May 13, 2011
By snoWYmonkey
While polar makes the best product, they have inconstencies amongst their service centers that are infuriating. My old chest strap had a dead battery and the first place I contacted would not let me send it in without also servicing the watch! The second place was very kind and helpful and ultimately explained that I needed a new strap as the battery can not be replaced. I replaced the watch battery myself for under $5 dollars the item is out of warranty and I was willing to risk it. No problems there.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Poloar T31 Transmitter, April 5, 2011
By Old User
I recently purchased a Polar T31 heart rate Transmitter to replace one I have used for more than 2 years. The reason was because my first one I used when I was exercising in the Y fitness center and wanted an accurate monitoring of my heart rate needed a new battery. It is important to monitor heart rate when exercising and the monitor on exercise equipment is not reliable. Some people need to keep their heart rate below a certain level. I highly reccomend it and will continue to use it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great at the gym, March 13, 2011
By Ginger (Oklahoma, OK USA)
I bought this to wear at the gym, as the machines there do not pickup the transmission from my Timex HR monitor. I only bought the chest strap. Had to replace my old one (uncoded) that lasted almost 10 years. So far no problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for swimming, July 16, 2010
By workout fan
I bought the Polar FT 60 heart rate monitor from my gym and specifically wanted to use it for swimming. The transmitter belt that came with did not work when i tried to use it in the pool, so I ordered the Wearlink 31 Coded transmitter belt and it works GREAT! I've used it for swimming a few times and haven't had any problems. I love it, and I love my heart rate monitor.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Polar WearLink 31 Coded Transmitter Belt, August 20, 2010
By would-be carpenter (berwyn pa)
I meant to order a different transmitter - one with a replaceable battery. There is nothing wrong with this one except that its predecessor last only two years before it stopped, and that's what I expect from this one. When the batteries die, then maybe I can order a replacement that allows me to just replace the batteries rather than throw the whole thing away.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Effective but a bit uncomfortable in warm weather, May 26, 2009
By spinner (NY)
This Transmitter works very well. I use it for spinning. It is effective in giving you feedback about your workout. The drawback is that wearing a band around your abdomen is a bit uncomfortable in warm conditions. The discomfort is worth it, though, since it allows your to work out more efficiently.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Fastening the tranasmitter, October 29, 2008

Polar make great products. I still don't know why they don't add a silicon stripe (similar to those that you find on spandex bike pants) on the transmitter or belt to improve fastening.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Polar watch monitors HR much better now, March 22, 2012
By A. Bear (Texas United States)
I thought my polar watch was not working properly since it would say my heart rate was 00 many times during my workout OR at then end of a hard workout the calorie count was pretty low compared to what I thought it should be. I kept tightening the strap thinking that the belt was to loose to get a good reading. However since replacing the old transmitter belt with this model it works great!

I haven't seen the 00 heart rate again and my calorie counts are up. I was scared that maybe my watch would reject the band or that they would not connect but it worked fine. I just got the band wet before putting it on and went to the heart monitor window on the watch and it worked. I guess I just needed a new battery on the transmitter. I really didn't want to wait while I sent it in to Polar for battery replacement although the website says battery replacement is about $13 + shipping to and from the facility closest to you.
