its got problems, July 24, 2011
By James

many cheap components, such as; 1.VERY soft tires even fully inflated they bow severely 2. the rims are aluminum and the FIRST time I took this on a paved bike path and caught a small pothole they warped horribly to where they cant be saved 3. coaster brake barely works 4. seat is mostly plastic and soft metal and even using a ratchet wont stay put 5. pedals are totally plastic and have begun to crack. So not worth the money and now have to do some costly repairs and no way to get a refund of new parts from the manufacturer AWESOME!!!

Bought as a gift for my daughter. She asked for a light blue and the only one I could find at a brick & mortar was $235.00 and didn't look any nicer then this one. She has been enjoying it and said it is perfect in every way.

it's OK .... considering the price, September 23, 2011
By M. Webb

For the $109 price I didn't expect much ... the components on the bike are the cheapest you can find. My other bikes are from bike shops and are kind of expensive. To compliment the expensive bikes I wanted a cheap bike(so cheap it is almost disposable) to ride the the market and the pub and if it got stolen I wouldn't cry. I could have built a dependable cheap cruiser but since i have two other project bikes in the garage I wanted to purchase one ready to go for cheeep. The Pacific Oceanside fits the bill almost. In college I used to work for a name brand bike MFG as an in store assembler and repair tech and have assembled hundreds upon hundreds of bikes of all types and price points so i have a fairly wide range of experience with all types of bikes. This one has some bright points and some not so good points. Pacific Bikes is part of the same company that now makes Schwinn, Mongoose, Roadmaster and a few other brands, so i figured its quality would be close to the others in many respects. The color is OK for me. The decal on the chain cover is starting to peel off. The one I bought was assembled so I had no real trouble with that. The front wheel needed to be trued a bit but that is standard for any bike. Every bike needs to have its wheels trued out of the box and the re trued after breaking in. The frame is ok along with the paint. The frame is indistinguishable with the Schwinns that were parked next to this bike in the store. The stem and handle bars are ok too. The place where they save the money was in the other components like the rear hub. I will wind up rebuilding the rear coaster brake soon since it is noisy and does not stop really well.It honestly is one of the cheapest rear hubs I have seen in 30 years of futzing with bikes. The spokes look a little dicey especially the nipples and coatings on the spokes.. I do worry about the front hub and bottom bracket now but for 100 or so its about a good as you could expect these days .... once again if it gets stolen I wont cry. If it breaks the frame will become the donor base for a custom project or something. To sum it all up, if you need a reliable dependable everyday bike and this is the only one you own, it will probably let you down. If you want it as a fourth or fifth bike for cheap this one will probably do ... It seems 100$ won't buy much these days when it comes to bikes ... but then again many days a cheap bike is better then no bike.

Not what we expected, September 6, 2011
By collegemom

I ordered this bike for my son to use at college. The bike we received was black with silver and red, not charcoal & red. My son decided black was okay and proceeded to build it. The front "arms" that hold the wheel was damaged, at that point the bike was almost entirely built so again we fixed it instead of returning it. We spay painted the silver fenders and took off about 20 decals and were happy with it. Until the chain kept coming off when riding; had to tweak the bike three times to get it to work properly. In hind sight, it would have been worth it to buy a local bike for $100 more.

Great bike considering the price, March 19, 2012
By There are rules to money (Virginia Beach)

My girlfriend bought this for me as a "ride to the beach and not worry if your bike gets stolen" bike. I think I spent almost as much on the surfboard rack.
You get what you pay for. I'm not sure what people were expecting for an adult bike that costs $140 bucks delivered. I ride quite a bit - this is a good (not great) price for a entry level beach cruiser ...and the ride geometry and styling are very good.
This isn't a bike made to withstand abuse. (Having no other transportation other than a bike during my college days, it is especially not a good bike for a college campus.) Don't expect to stand up and mash your way to any speed records, either.
What this bike is good for: short trips to the beach, the market, or to visit your neighbor.
I had no problems inflating the tires, the brakes work, and the bike arrived in great condition. I mounted my surfboard rack and ride it almost daily to the beach in good weather. I did replace the saddle, but then I've done that on almost every bike I've every owned.
Keep your expectations in line with the price and I'm sure you'll be happy with this bike.
I rated this bike 4 stars because of the saddle and the $140 price tag.

Good Entry-Level Cruiser...Get What You Pay For, February 10, 2012
By B. Ellis (Lexington, SC)

I bought this for my girlfriend so that she could get back into riding bikes (she hasn't ridden since she was a child), and so far the build quality seems to be O.K. Everything came well-packaged, except the fenders were a little bent. Honestly, I'm not that big of a stickler about the fenders because I don't plan to actually be riding at the beach with her, or on rainy days. That being said, with a little creative bending I can straighten the fenders out, but for now I'll leave them off. The chainring and freewheel are in good condition/coaster brake works well, and the rear wheel only needs slight truing. A lot of people who would buy a bike this cheap would think by now that I have a lot of work ahead of me, but this bike has been the simplest/quickest to assemble (under 30 minutes), and these odds and ends won't take long to correct. We plan on taking our first ride this weekend (weather permitting), so I'll update this as soon as we've taken it out on its maiden voyage, so to speak.
Bottom line so far: You get what you pay for, but overall what you pay for is not too shabby. And to the reviewer who said there was no seatpost/headset included, I will say that the seatpost was cleverly hidden by being attached to the seat stay (diagonal bar that runs from the seatpost clamp down to the rear cog), wrapped in cardboard. As for the headset for the handlebars, I wouldn't know what to tell you. Mine was in the bottom of the box in plain sight. And to the reviewer who said that the freewheel now makes a clicking sound when you coast, that's actually pretty typical for most freewheels (even on my most expensive bike, a $650+ Trek Marlin); that would mean the freewheel bearings need new grease packed in, or that you need a new hub. A lot of people will buy this bike because they want to ride with as little maintenance as possible, but it just needs a little TLC at the outset and it should be a solid ride.

DO NOT BUY!!!, February 7, 2012
By Mindy

I buy alot of stuff from amazon and I have always been very happy with my purchases. I ordered this bike and waited for it to arrive. I was so excited and when it arrived I was happy to see it was easy to assemble but it was missing two very important parts (bars that helped keep the seat and handle bars together). I eventually had to take it to a bike shop and pay for the additional parts it didn't come with. DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU WANT TO SPEND ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR IT TO WORK PROPERLY!!!

Great Bike!, December 24, 2011

This is a great bike! The bike is very well priced & is sturdy. The box arrived in a timely fashion & the contents were in perfect condition. There were no scratches (which I expected a few) & there was nothing missing. I can't wait to give this terrific gift to my son for Christmas! I would definitely purchase from this vendor again!

Poor packaging, December 30, 2011
By M. Shipley (Apopka, FL USA)

Ordered one of these along with 3 other bicycles for a family Christmas present in hopes of going on a few bike rides with the family during my week off after Christmas. Unfortunately, I noticed that upon assembly of this bicycle, the front wheel was warped (a spoke was bent), and this was due to poor packing - the bicycle is packed with one of the pedal bars poking between the spokes of the front wheel. This caused the spoke to bend and thus, the wheel to be warped. I contacted amazon about getting a replacement, but was dismayed to find the same issue with the second bike.
DO NOT PURCHASE THIS BIKE FROM AMAZON. Your front wheel will very likely be warped until they change the way these bicycles are packed.

very good value for bike cruiser, March 9, 2012
By Donald J. Schmid (Granger, Indiana)
|
|
I purchased this cruiser bike for my daughter, who needed a bike to ride around her college campus. It's a very good looking bike and a very good value. It was well packed when it came. All the parts of the bike were included in the box and it took me less than an hour to fasten the wheels, handlebars, fenders and pedals.
