5.0 out of 5 stars.  Surprisingly warm, December 21, 2009
By Fitness Freak (Michigan)
I wear this when the temperature is around 45 degrees. As the temp rises to around 50 I pull it off and stow it in my shirt back pocket. It's so light and THIN that I forget it's there. It fits under my helmet without having to adjust the straps which is a plus.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Keeps my ears nice and toasty!, November 21, 2010
By Funky Monk (Los Angeles)
I ride at night and my ears get cold. So I bought this to keep them nice and toasty. And as an added bonus, the moisture wicking material keeps my shaved head dry. This is probably a must for night-riders with shaved heads.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  It would be OK for people with smaller heads, October 24, 2011
By Drive-In Kid (Michigan)
I am a tall male with a fairly large head (I don't know what the average head size is) and this cap barely covers the bottom of my ears. After having it on for a few minutes it begins to slip and my ears are exposed. Obviously this makes it useless for someone my size as keeping my ears warm was the main reason I bought it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  (Avid cyclist) loved it!, December 14, 2010
By Vico
I bought this gift for my father-in-law who is an avid cyclist. He lives in Northern NM close to Colorado so mornings are very chilly there. Below are his words:

"I wanted to tell you I had a great ride this weekend with the cycling cap you sent me. It was perfect for the weather, looked cool and did it's job. Thanks!!- Northern NM

I'm so glad he liked it ...

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good for women too!, May 10, 2011
By pamelita (New York, NY)
I wore this all winter, and through our cool March/April spring, on long rides and it kept me blessedly warm throughout. It fits very well on my head, and I have a pea-head: 21 in. (size small helmet)...but the stretchy one-size fits all worked for me and it definitely is unisex, so I recommend it to other women, too. It's comfortable to wear and fits really well under both my helmets, covering my ears completely. It also keeps my hair in place--I have a jaw-length bob hairstyle that sometimes sticks out the sides of my helmet once I really get going which is sooo annoying. This little cap took care of that issue which I miss now that the cold weather is over and I don't need to wear it and my hair is sticking out again! The pony-tail port in the back is unnecessary for me and sometimes my hair did stick out the back of THAT, but no big deal. It didn't leave a *cold draft spot* back there and I found this cap to be quite windproof even when worn with my Ionos helmet which is super-ventilated. Maybe having hair that covers my ears under the cap helped with that--perhaps someone with less hair and exposed ears might need a thicker cap than this one. It is thin, so it stows easily, and you can barely see it under my helmet. Once my helmet is off, I do admit it's not the most attractive/stylish piece of winter gear that I own--kinda looks like I've got a do-rag on my head...but as long as it keeps me warm and dry under my helmet during the cold months, who cares? It's a good--and necessary--little piece of winter gear to keep your head warm while you ride, at a really good price.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice cap for under the helmet., December 12, 2011
By Josh Berry (Atlanta, GA)
As the title says, this is a really nice hat to wear under a helmet. Takes some effort to get it so it doesn't annoy my ears, but I think that is because I have to wear glasses, too. Overall, I'm happy with this and will likely buy it again when this one wears out. (Or, more likely, I lose it.)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Love this skull cap, December 8, 2011
By K. Dillon (Tallahassee, FL)
I bought this cap for my husband and he said that the cap fits great, it is not too heavy and wicks really well. He wore it this morning to run (32 degrees) and his head was very comfortable. He also said that it felt very light and was not ichy. It it thin enough to fit under a bike helmet and will cover about 3/4 of his ears.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Ok, but not adjustable for ears... and the wind noise!, December 21, 2011
By Corey Molloy (St. Louis Park, MN United States)
I liked the way this initially fit and love the way it stays dry. However, it just barely fits over my ears. My ear lobes still get some breeze and this was enough to cool off my ears considerably. It should be fine for people with medium to small heads, but large and bigger, I'd pass.

I don't think this would be warm enough under the typical helmet for under 40 degrees F and certainly not if windy.

The main peeve I have is the sheen of the material allows for extra wind noise which is really annoying when on long rides. Because of this alone, I will never wear this again unless under another wool hat and them my helmet.

I would not buy this again. I would opt for something a tad warmer and larger.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  thin and toasty, December 9, 2011
By Bud Bud Ding Ding
This just about fits my head and I wear the larger sized bike helmets (L/XL).
Initially when i put it on and pulled it over my ears i was concerned that it was starting to creep up again and that it would not stay over my ears. Fortunately i found that with my helmet on it actually stays in place. Its not bulky enough to require any adjustment of my helmet. I find it covers my ears and back of the neck nicely and keeps me warm enough at temps down to 36 degrees.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Worth buying, October 19, 2011
By Nick-zx2
I was concerned that a "one size fits all" would not be a wise purchase but I gave it a chance and glad that I did. It does wick sweat from my hair but not as much as I would like. Trade off to that is its very warm underneath the cap and the sweat that it does wick away doesn't make me feel cold. I especially enjoy the ear caps and look forward to truly testing this sucker out during the colder parts of the winter months.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Comfortable and warm, December 27, 2010
By Texfun738
Lightweight, and breathable - it keeps my head and ears warm without adding any bulk under my helmet. Also, it is one of the very few `one size fits all' items that really does feel as if was made for my big head..

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Brrrrrrrr, February 3, 2011

Not windproof! Bought this for my boyfriend to ride in the winter, and he says it doesn't keep his ears warm at all. Would recommend the next warmer model for serious winter riding.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  I don't know about this, October 13, 2011
By BlueGiantSun
I love the material for the beanie but the seams would be better on the outside of the cap instead of the inside. I understand that a flat stitch was used but that doesn't really help with the comfort level compared to other beanies that I have that ensures that the stitching is on the outside. Also, I did not know that this was a unisex beanie with a PONYTAIL HOLE in the rear of the cap-major design flaw, I would have never bought this if I knew that it had that as a feature of the beanie. But overall, something is better than nothing and pearl izumi products are great.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  good midweight bicycling skull cap, July 7, 2011
By l2 (California)
Pearl Izumi also makes a heavy wind/waterproof skull cap for serious weather. This is their lightweight cap for cool conditions. The fabric is thin enough to easily fit under a bicycle helmet, but it does provide some warmth. Perhaps more importantly, it pulls away all your sweat so you never get sweat in your eyes.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Product, May 12, 2011
By samuel smith
I normally do not write reviews but this product is great. It was recommended through amazon's recommendation engine when I bought my biking shorts. It had such good reviews I thought I would give it a shot. I am really glad I did. I am in my late twenties and I am just getting into cycling. Throughout my life I have done various athletics and have always sweated a ton, I mean a lot. Cycling before I got this was full of sweat constantly in my eyes and on my face. This absorbs and holds the sweat from my head very well. To give you an idea, I bike back and forth to work now which is about 37 miles round trip. I put this on along with a normal helmet and I do not have any sweat in my face, even on rainy days in Seattle. I would highly recommend this to anyone that sweats a lot.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Could be better, January 5, 2012
By Bill in Savannah (Savannah GA)
OK, it helps to keep the ears warm but it does have a habit of riding up so if one doens't keep pulling down on the earflap piece, it just doesn't stay put. It's better than nothing however.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Skull Cap, January 2, 2012

This cap fits well and provides a good thermal layer under my cycle helmet. Not much else I can say other than simple, lightweight and effective.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Doesn't cover my ears, December 29, 2011
By jonrh (Iceland)
The cap is nice and all but it doesn't manage to fully cover my ears. Additionally, after a bit of riding the cap slips a bit making my ears even more exposed. Going back to using Buff as a cap.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Light, comfy, and warm., December 21, 2011
By David Stone (Irvine, CA United States)
Just what was needed to keep my head warm on cold morning runs or bike rides. Sweat transfers away, and if it gets too warm, it folds very small. Recommended for the hair challenged.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Not bad as long as its not too cold, February 16, 2011
By Rider
Skull cap fits well under a helmet and stays in place. Good at 45F, but would want more protection to keep my ears warm if it was much colder or if the wind was blowing much.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice wind protection, September 20, 2011
By E. Gumapac (NJ)
Definitely not for cold weather protection but does enough to protect my shaved head in cooler weather and keeps sweat from my face during warmer weather. The fit wasn't as big as I hoped it would be. It fits a little too snug on my head and the ear cover is not enough to cover my whole ear without stretching the cap too much. While stretching the cap enough to cover my ears, the cap usually goes back to its original size after a few head movement. This makes it a not so comfortable fit. I have two other one-size skull caps I use for cycling that fits my s/m head perfectly. This cap feels a little too small. It does provide adequate protection from wind during cooler weather so I'm sure someone with a smaller head will find it more comfortable to wear.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for Cold Ears, January 30, 2012

I bought this skull cap to wear on chilly mornings until my ears warm up. It works! But it's not too heavy to wear after the temperature rises.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, Average price, January 28, 2012
By Roadie
I bought the black PI skull cap awhile ago and really liked it. It kept my head warm enough for SoCal winters and I was pleased with the fit. I wanted the white cap to deflect the sun during summer rides. $18. was the best price I found. However... with the $7.00 shipping cost, (which I feel was WAY over-priced, since it was shipped in a plastic bag, thereby making the total weight only ounces), the overall price was just average. Still, I'm happy with the product and BikeSomeWhere sent it in a timely manner. If the shipping cost was half the price, I would give this 5 stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Ears aren't long enough, January 20, 2012
By Kyle Ballard
I have a shaved medium/small size head and my skull cap in winter riding is the most important part of my winter clothing for me. I had a canondale skull cap before my son threw it away(at least we think, he throws everything in the garbage now). I liked the canondale cap much more it was a little thicker fit well and covered my ears. The pearl izumis cap didn't cover my ears and would rub against them chaffing them. It also wasn't very warm compared to the canondale. I returned item and will be buying a canondale.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Why is it called a transfer cap?, January 17, 2012
By Stale Coffee
I guess its because it keeps heat from transferring out of your head! I use a specialized helmet that forces air onto my skull...and it gets cold. But not with this baby! Only wish (and its not much) would be that it covered my ears a little bit more. My lobes get chilled. If its too cold though, I wear my balaclava. Great product.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Keeps your head warm, fits well under helmet, May 23, 2012
By Adam Solomon (Brookline, MA USA)
I'm happy with this skullcap. I wore it on the particularly cold winter days during my bike commute in the Boston area. It dries quickly, keeps you warm, and is thin enough to not interfere with your helmet fit.

Sadly, my hair is too short for the pony tail port, so I cannot comment on that feature.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Pearl iZUMi Transfer Skull Cap, April 18, 2012
By Harry1
I think the item is excellent. It keeps my head warm on the bike, and distributes sweat very well. I used to use a sweat band, but this is far superior. It keeps the wind from blowing directly on my sweaty scalp, which keeps me healthier.
