  • Wind Tunnel Ventilation - 26 huge vents with fully optimized channeling
  • Roll Cage technology
  • Internal webbing attachment
  • In-mold Composite Reinforcement
  • Roc Loc 5 fit system
Product Description:
The Giro Atmos Road and Racing helmet provides legendary performance, style and comfort - and features the new Roc Loc 5 fit system. After more than ten years of refinement, this ground-breaking fit system provides an entirely unique use experience with an unmatched level of comfort, stability, adjustability and weight savings. With Roc Loc 5, you can easily dial-in both fit tension and adjust vertical position with a single hand. Just twist the dial for a tighter feel on tough terrain, then back it off a notch and relax across the flats or a warm climb. Even with these remarkable features, Roc Loc 5 is still 40-percent lighter than its popular predecessor, Roc Loc 4. Roc Loc 5 systems is: 1) Micro Dial. The heart of the Roc Loc 5 is this ratcheting, micro-adjusting dial. A simple, two-finger twist of the Micro Dial opens or closes the retention system and each click is audible. 2) Three-Position Vertical Fit - It's never been easier to change vertical positions and fine-tune fit. We incorporated a three-position bracket that features 15-millimeters of precise up/down movement. Like the Micro Dial, this system can be adjusted without removing the helmet. 3) Carefully crafted ergonomic arms are shaped to be as comfortable as possible, yet work flawlessly with Giro eyewear (what we call Super Fit engineering). 4) Dual Pods - These two panels are designed to firmly grasp the back of your head while comfortably cradling the occipital lobe. Strap management - with Roc Loc 5, your helmet straps are woven through the fit system, so they are always in the perfect position. Complex Internal Design - Dozens of small parts work together seamlessly to provide exceptionally user-friendly adjustment. Minimal and Light, yet Strong - Although this fit system is 40% lighter than its predecessor, it's much stronger. In testing, Roc Loc 5 performs flawlessly, even after 6,600 cycles (equivalent to 3 years of riding with 3 round trips per day).

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I survived a 30 ft. fall with this, May 17, 2012
By "We must be the change we wi.. (Colorado)
I won't go into comfort- it's as comfortable as any helmet I had before. I won't go into aesthetics... those are self evident. What I will go into is what happened to me September 18, 2011.

I was riding my bicycle on Mount Evans, the highest paved road in North America. During my descent, the winds became unusual (and I'd ridden this mountain MANY times). Perhaps a thermal eddy, maybe something else. All I know is on a straight section I was fighting a headwind, and then I wasn't, with a curve coming up fast. the winds had reversed direction, causing my speed to go from 30 MPH to 50 MPH in seconds. I tried to slow, but began to skid, so reduced pressure to my brakes to maintain proper control. I couldn't slow enough. I left the road... and fell off the mountain, landing on granite boulders 30 feet below.

Ultimately, I sustained 9 spinal fractures, 3 in my neck and 6 in my upper back. My rib cage and right scapula were shattered. Both lungs were punctured and I came as close to losing my left kidney and my spleen as anyone can come w/o losing them. My head... even though I landed on my head & upper back... escaped with a concussion. My helmet was completely destroyed. My Atmos saved my life in an accident that by all reckoning ought to have killed me. Moreover, I'm walking, and even starting to get back on my repaired bicycle!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Worth the price, August 24, 2011
By Efrain Garcia
Let me start by saying that once you get to the $100+ helmets, you really can't go wrong with any of your choices for helmets

Before choosing to buy this helmet I spent days researching all the helmet offerings by Giro, Bell, Specialized, etc. They all promise many vents, comfort, low weight and great designs -- it is difficult to truly say one helmet is better than another in terms of features.

My next step in ensuring I was going to pick the correct helmet was to visit all the bicycle shops in my city and personally try them on, even trying the same model in different sizes to make sure I would get the perfect fit. I found that out of all the helmets, the Giro Atmos was the most comfortable surpassing the Bell Volt and more expensive offerings like the Ionos. At the store, I even thought this helmet was so comfortable, I would probably forget I even had a helmet on after a while.

So I went ahead and purchased and put it to the test immediately. After 300 miles, I can confidently provide my review.

The helmet is light, well constructed and extremely comfortable (for my head). The airflow is excellent and keeps my head cool even in the hot summer (we get very hot summers). I found that I am sweating a lot less as I'm no longer having to wipe sweat off my face. The wind freely courses through my hair, so much so, that I was correct in thinking I would forget I have a helmet on.

Not entirely sure its a con, but I the padding seems to be on the light side. It is still comfortable, beyond the fully padded helmets like the Volt. I have not crashed so I cannot provide how it performs in such a scenario, but I'm certain the Atmos would not be as big a seller if it fared poorly in this category. Construction is solid and the new tightening system with the dial is a great improvement over the previous system. The design and color schemes are excellent as well.

4/5 stars. still an expensive helmet.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very cool but makes noise..., October 22, 2011
By laurarun
If you are looking for a better than any other average helmet with plenty of ventilation, look no more. This is definitely it. You would immediately feel this is well structured in a point of safety yet is very light, so you would be so comfortable wearing this one.

One negative is that when you wear this, you can actually hear the wind. So much so, you would hear a car approaching sometimes -- but actually no car behind you. Just to inform you.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Helmet, July 3, 2011
By jkp (Chicago)
I replaced my elderly Giro Pneumo which had developed an interior crack (never crashed) with the Atmos. I didn't expect to notice any difference, but I quickly noted the ventilation improvments. Very comfortable and easy to adjust. I hope never to test its crash properties. Besides, the new color matches my white/silver/red bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Fit / Good Ventilation, September 1, 2011
By aimee l kosenski (middletown, ct United States)
Good fit - the Roc Loc fit system is nice - better than my last Giro helmet (about 5 yrs old). Ventilation is very good and it's pretty lightweight. A nice feature is the improved padding - it's not just glued foam and felt, it's actually sewn at the edges; so maybe it will last longer. The other type starts to separate after a while and needs to be replaced.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Outstanding Hat, April 16, 2012
By mgonzales (Oregon Coast)
This is the most comfortable cycling helmet that I've owned. I've got a couple of Treks, a Bontrager and two really old Bells. This Atmos is hands down my favorite. The rocloc fit system is super adjustable and the best of any that I've tried. This Giro is so light that you quickly forget that you're even wearing it. Plus it looks good on my noggin'. I'm diggin' it.
I highly recommend that you go to Giro.com and review their sizing guidelines before ordering. Getting the proper size is crucial.

If you are going to wear a helmet, this is the lightest and best looking, plus the best fit for the money. I've had 4 atmos helmets in all colors over the years with no complaints at all. Anyone that tries it on loves it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  maximum air flow, January 20, 2012
By P.C. Thomas (Fort Myers, FL United States)
I've tried on numerous bike helmets but this is only the second helmet I've ever owned. My first helmet was a Giro Transfer and it's a nice helmet but I wanted something with more ventilation because I live in Southwest Florida and it gets really hot. The Atmos is about as airy and well ventilated as they come. It's like not wearing a helmet. In fact, when it's cool out my head actually gets a little cold in this helmet. In the future I might buy a less ventilated helmet to wear on cold winter days which where I live is around 50 degrees. The helmet is also quite comfortable and has a dial adjustment to make tightening or loosening it a simple one handed process. The helmet is of course incredibly light although I can't tell by feel if it's any light than my Transfer. The big difference between the two helmets is the ventilation. Out of all the helmets I've tried on I also think the Atmos looks the most stylish on me. It has less of a round mushroom cap look to it but it all depends on the shape of your head. My wife looks better in the Transfer. My only complaint is that it doesn't have a visor and the straps can be a little annoying. However, the strap issue is common to all helmets and you quickly get used to it. Overall I'm very happy with this helmet and it was worth the high price.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Giro Atmos helmet, January 10, 2012
By Matthew Burrows (Miami, Fl United States)
This is a great lightweight and extremely comfortable helmet. I have already logged in about 200 miles with it and it has not bothered me like my other helmets. No pinching even when worn for 3 hours straight.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very nice helmet, January 6, 2012
By Dan
Just completed my first 15 mile ride with this thing. Although not as light weight as some other helmets I have tried, this helmet is light enough to forget you're even wearing it. It has awesome ventilation (yay, no more sweat dripping into my eyes while I'm riding!) and it fits my head just perfectly. I wasn't sure if I should get the Medium or Large because my head tends to be a little on the larger side, but this medium turned out to be perfect. The adjusting mechanism is perfect and makes for a nice tight fit, with even pressure all around without any noticeable pressure points. It seems to confirm to your head just nicely, instead of your head having to conform to it, like the $10 Target special that this replaced!

Looks very nice as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Everything I expected, and more., January 4, 2012

I am very pleased after 5 rides. The helmet fits perfectly. Its as if there isn't a helmet on my head. Its a big improvement over my Bell helmet. There is plenty of ventilation as well. Keeps your head cool, yet protected. I am very pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good helmet for its price and what you get, October 30, 2011
By Chengcheng Xu (San Jose, CA USA)
I love this helmet. It is light and breathable.
I actually did a bit of market study before buying this helmet. The Giro Ionos is more expensive than this, to me I couldn't tell a significant difference. My friend got a Bell Volt, and to me, I think the Atmos is more breathable than the volt.
You are suppose to replace your helmet every 2 years or so. That is another reason why I like the Atmos, its price is reasonable enough for replacing it. Also it offers good protection and ventilation.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best Value, May 2, 2012
By Daniel J Becker (Toledo, OH United States)
I knew that Giro helmets fit my head well. The perfomance reviews of the Atmos helmet were strong. The Amazon price was best I could find. All I needed to do was adjust the chin straps and twist the head band to fine tune the fit.
Great feel. Light weight. Very comfortable. Speedy delivery for Prime customers equals very happy.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  did not fit, May 8, 2012

It did not fit my head correctly. Going to try bell it fit my head better. Really wanted it to fit. The ratchet system seems nicer on the bell too. Liked the looks and the vents on this.
