Product Description:
The SRAM X9 10-Speed Rear Derailleur differs from the 9-speed version in a number of ways. First, the cage width and jockey wheels are sized in accordance with the narrower 10-speed chain. And secondly, it uses Exact Actuation Technology, borrowed from SRAM's road bike shifters, to deliver the most precise shifting possible by ensuring a perfect and consistent shift distance between each gear, all the way across the cassette. And like the rest of SRAM's rear derailleurs, the X9 Rear Derailleur is designed for a direct cable path from the stop on the frame to the derailleur body, eliminating the typical loop of excess housing to make the junction. This more direct route to the derailleur reduces friction in the cable system and produces a lighter more consistent feel to the shifting. At a glance, it may be tough to tell this X9 10-Speed Derailleur from the X0 model, but there are differences of course. For one, it's a few grams heavier. Only the short cage version uses carbon fiber for the outer cage plate. The medium and long versions use alloy for both cage plates. The inner and outer parallelogram linkages are also aluminum, with wide pivots to ensure linkage stability when the derailleur is under tension in the biggest cogs. This way, you'll get accurate shifting and quiet performance when pedaling. Also, where the X0 models use sealed cartridge bearings in the jockey wheels, this X9 Rear Derailleur uses sealed bushings. While they'll provide good service, they won't spin with the precision of the bearings on the X0 model, but you'll save a few bucks to spend elsewhere on your bike. The SRAM X9 10-Speed Rear Derailleur is available with Grey, Red, or White accents and is designed to work with SRAM's 10-speed 11-32 and 11-36 cassettes. It can be paired with one, two, or three chainrings. To that end, there are three cage length options -- Short (DH/single ring), Medium (2x10), and Long (3x10).

1.0 out of 5 stars.  looks good but works bad, February 9, 2011
By Sean McG
When I got this product I was satisfied with its weight and looks. It seemed strong enough but a little bit flimsy. Surprisingly the cage was made of metal and one side and carbon fiber/plastic on the other. A derailer cage is no place for plastic, that i know from experience.
Anyway while I was installing it I needed to flex the derailer so that I could get the chain attached. All of the sudden the cage went limp and there was no spring left in it at all. The product was obviously broken. There was no way to fix it because the spring is on the inside of the derailer and getting to it would take breaking the derailer open. Either the product was bad of the seller was untrustworthy. Either way I don't recommend buying this product from this seller.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Smooth shifting through 10 gears, May 5, 2012
By Ronnbot (Vancouver, BC Canada)
Came with my Jamis XC Dakar Comp and I quite like it for its...
performance - shifts nicely across 10 gears
looks - I have the white, which well goes w/ my bike
durability - I've had no problems even after a fall on the right side

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Better than X0, October 18, 2011
By Ruth Sade
I order this Derailleur after breaking my X0 Derailleur. This one actually shift better and even look better. The outer cage is made of carbon and it has nice white finish that look good with my frame (just nice, but still). It really does shift better for whatever reason. The price is about half and the wight difference is next to nothing - really is a great deal compare to X0 if you have SRAM shifters and just need the Derailleur - The Shimano XT with comparable performance (but little heavier) costs less. So if you are building a new system and your are not SRAM fun (SRAM as more immediate shifting to it, but also feels stiffer), then I think money wise, go with Shimano's. This one shift great under power (I have 1X10 setup with the front chain ring being 36t on my AM bike) and have no problem shifting no matter what. Great product (but a little pricy compare with other brands).

4.0 out of 5 stars.  going strong with ~750 mtb miles, July 22, 2011
By dougie fresh (georgia)
my gravity 29.4 is my first 10speed mountain and first sram equipped mountain bike. The shifting is great, even under load(probably attributable to cassette more than derailleur). Durability seems to be good. I've hit my x9 on big enough rocks to leave scratches by the bottom pulley and bend the hanger, but no structural damage to the mech at all.

Now I need a spare to bring on long rides. can't decide if its worth getting an x9 or if I should drop back to x7.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very nice !, June 3, 2011
By BentoniousMaximus
This derailleur is perfect ! Easy to instal, perfectly smooth shifts, durable, goes very nice with my black and red Motobecane frame, did i mention perfectly smooth shifts? And its versatile, I have a seven speed cassette with friction shifters and an 8 speed chain. With this setup I was expecting adjustment issues but all i had to do was take about four links out of the chain. I would recommend this derailleur for anyone who is building or upgrading a road bike.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Don't ever buy a SRAM X9 rear derailleur! ever!, April 30, 2012
By Esteban
I had my first rear derailleur warranty replaced because the chain tension spring broke in the first ride, then 2 months after, the second derailleur's chain tension spring broke again.
Yes, shifting quality is awesome but this sucks!
Seriously, never ever buy this, I'm not the only one who has experienced this, look it up in mtbr:
