The men's P.R.O. In-R-Cool shorts from Pearl Izumi combine an anatomic fit with the addition of In-R-Cool and fast-drying Transfer Minerale technology to keep you cool, dry, and odor-free on intense rides. The shorts are constructed with P.R.O. Transfer fabric that goes above and beyond the moisture transfer performance that Pearl Izumi is already known for. The shorts reflect sun light away for high-level UV protection that doesn't add bulk to the shorts and the Minerale Technology dries extremely quickly to maximize evaporative cooling. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-line P.R.O. 4D Chamois provides a seamless fit in the saddle. Additional details include silicone leg grippers with welded construction and reflective elements for low-light visibility. Built to last, the P.R.O. In-R-Cool shorts carry a lifetime warranty from Pearl Izumi against defects in materials and workmanship.| Size Guide |

Two words.....! Awe Some, September 24, 2011

Ok let me start by saying I got a pair the pearl Izumi pro 2010 shorts and I love those. If your a Fan of those shorts than these shorts will literally blow you away. The pad is exactly the same as the prior year model and is super comfortable. If your doubting whether to spend the 100 bucks doubt no more, it is worth it, trust me your taint will thank you, I mean if Mick Jagger was buying protection for his taint this is the pad he would be buying. The shorts have this great fit and incorporate this space age mineral fabric that is basically the same stuff they made the space shuttle out off. I mean the second you put these on you want to hit the road they feel so great. They got rid of the draw string from the previous model, I though it would be a bummer, but actually wasn't that much of a let down. All around thumbs up worth every penny.

The quality of these shorts is really top-rate. These are just what I was looking for. I have 4 pairs of cycling shorts, but these are the only ones that I use.

Great overall & distance cycling shorts, September 23, 2011

I think the saying "you get what you pay for" applies here. My local bike shop (LBS) owner told me when I started cycling about a year and a half ago, to get a decent pair of shorts on the front end rather than some cheap ones and "work my way up" if I liked the sport. It was sound advice. My wife purchased a pair of Bontrager shorts for about $80 and I'm still enjoying them. So why get another or different pair if what you have is working? First, I think it's good to have options. Secondly, my wife and I ride a tandem bike and have gotten into longer distances, recently completing our first century ride (100 miles in a day) and the following weekend the MS 150 (150 miles in 2 days)...2 day/multiple day rides mean you might need a second pair of shorts. I was able to use my new Pearl Izumi's on both of these rides.
Overall the shorts fit comfortably and are very supportive. The padding initially felt pretty stiff, but has "loosened up" with several rides and washes. At first the outer edge of the pad was rubbing or putting some pressure on the inner aspect of my thigh. That has gotten better/resolved. The waistband is thick, but not too tight for my middle aged "muffin top" and the top does not roll over either. These shorts are a little longer than my Bontragers and sometimes rub near the back of my knees. This is easily corrected by sliding the legs of the shorts up just a bit where the material isn't fully stretched. This is a problem not likely encounter by the average person. I'm short and stubby, 5"7" with a long torso and short legs (barely a 30" inseam). On our two day ride, I was able to wash the shorts in the hotel sink, use a bath towel to "roll out" most of the water and hung to dry...ready to go the next morning. I was pleased enough with the shorts to buy my wife the women's version of the same shorts. She tried them on one time and said "they look funny" (because of the bulkier pad) and refused to even try them on the bike. Please note I love my wife, but she is more fashion conscious and I'm more comfort conscious!
Pros: Comfortable fit, waistband doesn't roll away from my "muffin top", excellent support around the thighs. Great anatomically shaped pad. Dries fast for multiday rides.
Cons: Pad feels pretty stiff for several rides. Legs are a little long (only a problem if you're stubby like me). A bit pricey (but worth it in my book)

Best I have tried so far, January 19, 2012
By N. Celik (Cambridge, MA USA)

I have tried various cycling shorts and these ones are by far the best. Sure, they are not cheap, but they are well worth the amazon price -- so much so that I just bought my second pair and will retire some of the cheaper ones from other brands.
One note of caution: They are very tight. If you are uncomfortable with that, or not "height-weight proportional", buy a size up.

Shorts may run on the small size, July 20, 2011
By djmjay

I purchased these to replace an aging pair of Pearl Izumi Ultrasensor shorts about two years old. The new shorts are very impressive bit there are differences. The new P.R.O. in-r-cool short in the same small size are a bit smaller than the other top of the line from Pearl which are the ones I'm replacing. There is no draw string in these shorts just wide elastic not a combination like the Ultrasensor's. Its a tight squeeze but the quality is over the top. So just beware that it's quite possibly one may have to bump up to one larger size. I've been using Pearl products since the 1980's and every piece gets better and better. I still have an original jersey from that era that I could use today if needed. I may be a bit bias but we men don't like change once we find a quality piece, or at least I don't.

first time, July 31, 2011
By Russell Krauskopf

I have never used cycling shorts before so I was still a little unsure what to expect exactly. I have found these to be comfortable and durable with a slight learning curve on things being so conpacted while riding. I recently did a 50 mile ride and while I was slightly unconfortable toawrd the end, I was never in any pain the next day. I do wonder though, what the gel cycling shorts feel like.

The Right Padding, July 6, 2011
By Ron (Lake Villa, Il. United States)

I had a good friend pass away from prostate cancer that spread. His hobby was road bike racing all over the country. There are two views on bikes and cancer. Some say yes it causes and others say is doesn't cause cancer. This guy looked like the perfect picture of health. After he passed, I figured I would buy the best padded bike pants that are out there. These exceed my Nike by quite a bit. They are well built with a lot of attention to detail. I ride about 125 miles a week and I have had these for a few months now. They are comfortable and fit well. I don't feel very STIFF after a 25 mile run like I had before. They are worth the money. Yes, I have had the special seat for men for many years. The pants helped.

Simply outstanding, March 19, 2012
By Framerboy

I was aware of this product prior to purchasing it through Amazon. I expected an outstanding pair of cycling shorts and that's exactly what I received. The 4D chamois in the PRO series is exceptional. These shorts are light, comfortable and perfect for most climates. The price I paid was even better than the Pearl Izumi outlet stores were charging. I could not be happier.

Great ride first time out, March 13, 2012
By Louis F.Villarosa Jr
|
|
I went out and rode 40 miles on a very windy day the first time on these shorts. I had some concerns about them being small. They looked small and were a little tougher getting on.But once I started riding they really fitted great. A little snug but they helps the ride like compression hose. The pad feels a little stiff at first but after about 10 miles, a really nice fit. The pad is bit oversized compared to other shorts. But that really helps with protection and prevents rubbing. Well worth the money particularly at $90 at Amazon.

I like these shorts but have not had time to use in sun/heat. It snowed today. The back stays up well when bent over. The con is they are kind of pricy.

Disappointed with 2012 Model, May 27, 2012
By S. V. Metre (Texas, USA)
|
|
Let me start out by saying the earlier model years (2011 and older) are great. I've been using Pearl Izumi apparel for years with great satisfaction. The redesigned 2012 shorts are another story. The main problem I have with them is they have a seam at the back of the upper thigh that rubs against your skin with every pedal stroke. After just a 35mi ride my legs were raw. Getting in the post ride shower was great fun with the burning when the water first hits the wounds. They have also extended the length of the shorts so they end closer to the knee. I didn't like when this was in style years ago and I still don't. After putting up with this for 2 rides I threw them in the trash. A big $150 mistake. I went back to my local bike shop to see if they still had any of last years model (they were in stock 2 months ago) but regretfully they were all gone. After years of doing so they don't even carry Pearl Izumi anymore.

Great shorts - don't think twice about extra $, May 26, 2012
By Sparky's Dad (GULF COAST)
|
|
I was unsure / probably like most if the extra $$$ they are charging for the pro short is worth it So I not only bought these but several other flavored of PI & other brands to test my self These definitely seem to hold & support you in the saddle. When out for 25-30 miles or more. Ride hard & fast 50-60 with lower quality shorts And you definitely go back to the pros next time out.

high quality, May 25, 2012
By LT Smash

These shorts appear to be high quality and well constructed. I have used a pair of elites for about a season and though that the pros would be the next logical choice. They do seem to be a pit lower waisted than the elites so we will see how that works out.
