ELITE Transfer fabric with In-R-Cool® technology provides optimal cooling and reflective sun protection Anatomic multi-panel designFlatlock and double needle seams Silicone leg gripper with welded construction ELITE 3D Chamois®Reflective elements for low-light visibility 9? inseam [size medium]Use simple detergents with no additives:Never use detergents with fabric softeners, perfumes or any additive type product. The general rule of thumb is the simpler the better. Many detergents with additives leave "surfactants" behind on a fabric's fibers that inhibit the technical performance. Typically the best detergents to use will have "Clear" or "Free" in their names. Don't pour the detergent directly onto the clothing, put it in the washer first, when you start the water. If something is not functionally working, but is not dirty, try rinsing it twice in warm to hot water. This will help get rid of the harmful surfactants. Read the care content label:On the inside of your garment, or on the hangcard, there are instructions for the care of that individual piece. On garments this will be on a side seam or back seam label. Follow those directions. On finer fabrics, use a "Gentle" cycle. Close all zippers, attach "hook and loop" closures on gloves You can use the dryer, carefully: If you use a dryer be sure to use a lower / warm heat setting (Do NOT use a commercial dryer or a "Hot" setting). This will often restore the fabric and help the water and wind repellent qualities. If in doubt, hang the clothing to dry.

The Elite In-R-Cool short for men takes the classic biking short to a new level in tech performance, technology and value. The Elite Transfer stretch fabric quickly transfers moisture on the skin to the outer surface of the short for fast evaporation. And the unique embedded In-R-Cool technology is activated by perspiration and cools body surface temperature by 5 percent. The removable Elite 3D chamois is pre-shaped to provide the highest level of riding comfort. Its breathable four-way stretch technology adjusts to the body and moves moisture away, and active carbon yarns improve thermoregulation and helps eliminate static-induced fatigue. Ultra-durable with flatlock and double needle seams, other features include an anatomic multi-panel design, silicone leg gripper with welded construction, and reflective elements for low-light visibility. Machine washable (no fabric softeners).

Excellent bike shorts, August 31, 2011
By J. Yun (Bothell, WA)
|
|
These PI Elite In-R-Cool bike shorts are very comfortable. They breathe well, have good muscle support, and the chamois is perfectly balanced between cushioning, stretch, and minimal design. I have 3 other pairs of bike shorts from different brands, and these PI's are probably the best.

Quite Good... Advanced Clothing, May 13, 2012
By Wood, Photos, Music, and Tech (MA)
|
|
These are quite good. Comfortable, nice grippy legs, and I like the length (on the long side). I would assume that (like all cycling objects) since these are "advanced" shorts, they will not last as long as my cheaper pairs, but heck, I'm worth it. I would say they are size accurate and certainly line up with the rest of the Izumi Elite sizing: I'm (currently) a 37 in pants and these shorts are very comfortable, but lets just say I think they'd also fit riders who wore 36 or 35 but probably not those wearing 34.
The InRCool feature is very nice. What it amounts to is a very very fine micro mesh material between the standard black lycra and your skin. The result? It create a standoff between the lycra and your legs, making air flow easier and generally eliminating that sticky lycra feel that comes with things soaked in sweat. Wore them today in 82 degree weather and I can say that they were shockingly comfortable and cool the whole time.
Recommended.
I will say that I see a fair number of reviews here from people who are buying this as their first pair of cycling shorts. I would say you are probably over-buying. I'd recommend the Pearl iZUMi Men's Attack Cycling Short as a great 8-panel short for a first pair: the Attack is still massive overkill for a new rider, but a very nice product at a much lower price than these InRCool shorts.
For reference, PI has three levels of Product: Select, Elite, and P.R.O.

Very Comfortable but could be more durable, May 7, 2012
By J. E. Brown (Philadelphia, PA.)
|
|
These shorts feature generous padding, flat seams, mesh panels, and sun reflecting fabric. They are very comfortable and the reflective fabric really works to keep solar heat at bay. I love the flat bands and sticky finished edges on the legs. These work to keep the shorts from riding up while preventing chafing. After thousands of miles they are still comfortable. While more durable than some shorts they are not as durable as I would like them to be. Both of my pairs developed wear spots along the seams of the chamois. I had the stitching reinforced and have managed to get over 3K miles out of two pairs in rotation. They run large so I recommend buying a size smaller than you usually would. Despite the wear issue, I decided to buy a third pair. They are that comfortable.

Decent at best while they lasted, November 22, 2011
By jbachmann

I bought these shorts to upgrade from a pair of quest shorts that had seen better days. The quest shorts were my first pair of cycling shorts and I thought that they were great. They were comfortable, had decent padding, and were pretty cheap. But after about 2000 miles, they were starting to get holes worn into them so I decided to upgrade to the Elites. The only thing that I liked better about the Elites were their looks. They felt tight on my legs and were not as comfortable as the quest shorts. To top it off, they developed a whole at the seems of the padding after only 400 miles of riding. I would not recommend this item to others.

Terrific Shorts, October 6, 2011
By J. Longdin (Huntington Beach, CA)
|
|
I am along time road bike rider. These shorts are well made and very comfortable. They give good compression on the upper legs and the mesh venting keeps the body temperature in check. I have done 4 century's in the last two months with no discomfort. The padding in the shorts is medium and the material has good moisture wicking. I compare these to the Assos shorts that I have and these shorts are a bargain and a lot more durable.

Love these Pearl Izumi's, February 18, 2012
By We are Normal (Illinois)

Wore these every day of my 480 mile ride this past summer (RAGBRAI). VERY comfortable, washed up easily and dried out before each days ride. It, literally, would have been a pain in the butt not to have these riding shorts. I just wish I would have purchased another set. Only complaint, the rubber logos wore away from the pant so now they appear to be generic. My butt doesn't care. Great value as compare to bike shop purchase and selection. Sizing was accurate for ordering online.

great bike shorts, January 1, 2012
By dan

the old adage applies; you get what you pay for and in this case you get a great, durable bike short at a very good price. Used these from mid summer to the present and you wouldn't know they they've been used.
Comfortable, cool in the heat and worth the dough.

Not Bad.....but expensive for what you get, April 17, 2012
By Bobdobbs62 (NY)

Overall nice short, but not the "stellar" performer some of the reviews would have you believe. - If these shorts were $50 less I would be a bit more impressed. Couple of notes up front: A) I've only had these for 3 weeks at this writing. B) And I've only worn them for one 60mile ride and another 30miler.
That said,I actually think these shorts have too much padding and it ends up wedged in places I can't write about here. The fabric also tends to bunch up along the crotch. I'm a fairly skinny guy, 30in waist, but 24in thighs, so I bought mediums, the same size as all my other shorts.-- Perhaps I should have purchased smalls?
Overall I must confess I much prefer the comfort of my Bike Nashbar "budget special" shorts over these; and they were $70 cheaper! (Although I admit, they don't look nearly as professional or "spiffy" as the Pearl Izumi's.)
