nice gloves for road biking, July 11, 2011
By Johnny99 (California)

Most full-finger gloves are designed for mountain bikers. Mountain bikers and road bikers hold the handlebars differently, so the padding and reinforcing on mountain bike gloves is usually inadequate for road biking.
These PI Select Gel gloves have a medium amount of padding in the palm, which is good enough if you're not leaning on the handlebars all day (use your core muscles instead). Most importantly, they are reinforced along the inside of the thumb and forefinger, which is where road bikers usually grip the handlebar and shift and brake. Mountain bike gloves start to self-destruct on me after a couple of weeks, but these PI gloves are still going strong after I used them all spring. Can't beat the $20 price here, either.

Not for me, October 2, 2011

I purchased these to use for cooler rides with my road bike and have since returned them. First, they are a light mesh on the back of the glove and will not keep my hands warm. Second, the thumb has a material that you can use to wipe sweat from your face, but on these gloves it is only on the thumb where as with other Zumi gloves I own, they cover the thumb and part of the fore finder which is much more area to wipe away sweat. I purchased the cyclone gloves and am much happier with that purchase.

Nice fitting gloves!, October 20, 2011

I've only worn these gloves a few times but, like all Pearl Izumi items I own, they are a good quality product. I do prefer my fingerless Pearl gloves for the dexterity they provide. Wearing these makes it next to impossible to adjust the volume or anything else on my ipod, but that is pretty much to be expected. Other than that, they are an excellent choice for the cold weather biker!

Awesome!, November 7, 2011

Awesome gloves! I wear them in the summer because my hands sweat alot and its difficult for me to grip my brake levers. These gloves have perfect grip and the padding is great for road bikes.

Arrived Damaged, December 27, 2011

Fit was good. Padding was nice. Felt like I would've liked them, but the seam on the index finger was not lined up when sewn, so it split and started coming unraveled before I had a chance to try them out.

Pearl Izumi Select Gel Gloves Poorly Made, December 17, 2011
By CeeDub

Gloves returned after first ride.
These Pearl Izumi Select Gel Full Finger gloves have a stylish look and breathable mesh uppers, but the construction falls short at a critical point: where your palms meet the cushioning.
I have a pair that I purchased back in 2008, which were manufactured with a one piece leather (or leather-like) lining that completely covers the silicon/gel pads. I went through several different pairs of gloves at the time, looking for padding protection for the heels of my palms during my daily commute and longer rides on the weekends. The old models were the closest thing to perfection that I found in the <$45 range.
These newer models have a thin layer of poorly sewn nylon that leaves the edges of the gel pads exposed. The exposed edges were initially unnoticeable, but 5 or 6 miles into my first ride, the discomfort caused me to remove the gloves and give them a more careful inspection. I was surprised that Pearl Izumi put out a product where the frayed nylon edges of the un-hemmed lining were so readily visible.
It's hard not to assume that Pearl began cutting back on quality (and cost) soon after Shimano took over the company a few years back.
By the way: this same issue occurs with the Pearl Izumi Elite gloves Pearl Izumi Elite Gelvent FF Glove

they're alright., December 14, 2011

i've been using these to ride in 40-50 F weather, and they're alright. i had hoped they would be warmer, but the outer layer is just one layer of mesh. also, i didnt expect the velcro to be so strong, because it catches onto the mesh of the fingers when i use a gloved hand to put on the velcro for the other. kind of tears up the mesh. otherwise, a pretty comfortable glove to ride on road bikes.

Money well spent at Amazon, November 30, 2011

I'll keep this review simple - I'd buy these gloves again and again - best full fingered gloves out there, and at the price I paid for them here at Amazon, it was a win-win!

Good quality but sizing is off, November 29, 2011

I ordered a pair in medium size based on the provided sizing information and what was needed was a large. The sizing is off by a full inch in terms of the distance around the hand at the knuckles and the size glove needed.

Not really for cool or wet weather, January 25, 2012
By Electronics junkie (Bend, OR)

I received these gloves for Christmas this year at my request. I was surprised to see the mesh on the back, the same as on the half-finger gel gloves but I thought I'd try it out. Sorry to say, they are cold, cold, cold! I even tried them while doing a brisk morning walk and found that they were also not warm enough for that. Temps for both of these were in the upper 30's to low 40's. They will be better in the spring when temps are warmer, but I foresee much overlap with the other gloves. I believe a better choice would be a thermal glove. I'll have to give one of those a try.

The gloves are well made, fit me like a glove. Ventilation was good, I did not feel clammy on hot days. The padding was just right, it feel soft and cushy but not bulky. My hands felt protected, not chafed after long rides. I highly recommend it.
