5.0 out of 5 stars.  The best I've found, April 7, 2011
By B. Doctor
Before these, I tried another brand that would bunch up in every direction imaginable. These have grippy legs, so they don't ride up. The pad itself is great - it has padding where you need it, and none where you don't. This is important as it prevents bunching and discomfort. The liners are very well made, the waist band is very comfortable and substantial. You could get away with wearing these without an over short if you needed to. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Wonderful even for BIG GUYS!, July 8, 2011
By Music Lover!!!! (Brazil)
Butt and balls saver!!! I don't write reviews very often, but I really wanted to make one for this one.

I have looked after the reviews on this and it paid off. Used it for the first time this morning. First time I made a spinning class I could not stay seated for more than one minute.

Today I was able to stay seated for more than 5 minutes (spinning classes make you seat and stay up), it is amazing the difference this shorts made to me... and I am a over 320 pounds (for now). The XXL size fits perfect to me. Strongly recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Butt saver!, May 31, 2011
By Big Dawg (California)
I just started riding Road Bikes coming from Electra cruiser bike. As much as I love the comfort of the cruiser, I can't get my heart rate high enough. I am not quite ready to go biker shorts so this Izumi liner works great! It fits comfortably under my shorts, protects my butt, from the hard seat, the padding is very thick. I have already ordered more.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice padded liner, August 9, 2011
By K. Bird (New York, NY)
I bought these for both cycling and rowing, I wanted something with substantial padding that fit well. I really find these very comfortable but the pad goes up quite far, cupping the family jewels as well. I find that to be a little odd but comfortable none the less.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice liner (and in my size, too!), May 11, 2011
By Rt. Rev. Sawdust Master (Los Angeles, CA USA)
I wanted a liner rather than regular shorts. I bought Pearl Izumi Men's Liner Short principally because it came in my size: 2X. I'm 6'5" with 26" thighs from riding a track bike on the street back in the 70s (yep, I'm way ahead of being a trend setter).

I must say I'm impressed. This liner is comfortable with well-designed padding. The stretch is good without being overly snug. The perspiration wicking appears to work as advertized.

I recommend. I will update this review with wear-and-tear information after I've washed these things a few times.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Top Notch, February 10, 2012
By Jon-O (Orange County, CA)
These are great shorts, I ended up getting three pair total because I liked the first pair so much. The padding is great because it works but its not so padded that you feel like you've got a load in your shorts when you're walking around. Also, the overall fit is great as it keeps the wedding tackle where it should be. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  No soreness with liner, August 13, 2011
By dave p
I have a 33-34 waist and bought these in a large becasue I did not want anything too tight. They have made a difference in saddle soreness. I ride 17 miles to work and 17 miles home once or twice a week. Even with this regular riding there was a touch of soreness. With the liner, that soreness is gone.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Nicely made, but poor chamois, April 12, 2012
By LegacyJA
I have had a really uncomfortable experience with this liner with chaffing and numbness. The chamois is coarse and sculpted, causing pressure in places. From now on I'll use it for only short rides of an hour at most. My Canari liner does a much better job. Nevertheless the product is well made and fits properly.

I ordered these a size larger that I needed and they fit perfect. They are really comfortable and the cushion is wide enough to handle any seat. I will order more.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  It seems ok, September 4, 2011
By Hernan.Russy
Liner is good so far. I wish I had ordered a small one because the medium one turned out a little big. I am 5'5", so you have and idea. Chamois seems not to give enough padding, but I think I just have to use it a little more before I have a better concept.

These are great liners. If you commute, they work well with almost any shorts suitable for riding (although I suppose you could wear them with pants too.) Very comfortable and do exactly as intended... protect your butt!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Better than expected, April 21, 2012
By Genghis Khan
Being a fairly large individual, the pain in the saddle was starting to wear me down. These liner shorts are the ticket. The shorts do not bunch or sag, cause no interference with clothing worn over/under it, and the padded liner is contoured to cover the surface of the saddle that contacts your body, but not anymore than that, you will forget you are wearing them. Any discomfort I have had is simply gone, will buy more.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great liner shorts, February 28, 2012
By Pittsburgh Transplant (Pittsburgh,Pa)
This is the second pair I've purchased through Amazon. They are pretty true to size and fit great. Even though I'm a roadie I prefer to wear liners under shorts rather than go about in spandex. Like I tell others when they ask, I'm 57 years old and can be a little over weight at times, no one wants to see that in spandex. Liners can be hard to find online and in stores so when they're available I buy them. These are good ones.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Comfortable, good fit, October 4, 2011
By LM (Chicago, IL)
I don't have any other pairs yet to compare them to but they have held up well for me so far. I bike approximately 30 miles to work and if I don't wear these my butt is noticeably more sore. I would definitely purchase these again.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  nice shorts great price, September 18, 2011
By coody
these are my first cycling shorts. they are liner shorts and they are very comfortable. pearl izumi has a good sizing chart online, use it. my shorts fit perfect. during and after a long ride i get some discomfort, simply put, my butt hurts. especialy when rising off the saddle. these shorts have eliminated that. i feel fine after a ride. my rides are usualy two to four hours, so any thing longer i cant comment. the gel padding is shaped like an average size bicycle saddle seperated into two halves as if you were looking down on the saddle from above.i read a review recommending washing bike shorts after every ride. i agree. machine washing following pearl izumi instuctions. i tried hand washing and rinsing but machine washing works better. i cut the care instruction tag out becuase it was large and annoying, i machine dry mine on very low heat for no longer than ten minutes, doing that one or two times then finish hang drying if needed, but follow pearl izumi instructions for best results.. i will most likely buy another pair in the future just to have two.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  G's Liner Shorts, September 14, 2011
By Gary Batten (Lebanon, OH USA)
These shorts are great due to the chamois in the seat area. I do not have any more discomfort in the seat area riding a bike. Their sizes are good. I ordered a larger size than I should but there was no need. It also appears to hold up very well. One hand wash and still is in perfect shape. I would recommend these. They do not ride up either.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice LIner, June 28, 2011
By Raymond Seeto (Arana Hills, QLD Australia)
Great cycling liners to wear underneath normal shorts. Padding isn't too bulky, grippy legs means no riding up of the liner whilst cycling. Size wise true to size - love Italian designed clothing and sizes as they fit me perfectly. Would definitely add more of these in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Pearl Izumi Liners, February 16, 2012
By geo
I've had Andiamo liners for years, and at first they where great. After a few years however they cheapened them and i was on the search for a replacement. Zumi's are probably the most expensive, but that's where quality comes in. they fit excellent, the padding is superior, and i'm sure they'l last well beyond the price. Great product

5.0 out of 5 stars.  good for spinning in the gym, February 15, 2012
By Munish Sawhney (Silver Spring, MD United States)
I enjoy road cycling, however when you're at the gym spinning/cycling and do not want to wear your skin-tight bike shorts, these are a great alternative. They are thin like underwear, at the same time the padding is very good, you can wear them underneath your running shorts.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Top of the line, January 31, 2012

This is the best cycle gel liner short out there in my opinion. The size ran true for me and it had the most pain protection from the gel pad, clearly better than the competition. I bought a second pair without hesitation.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great fit and quality - went back for a 2nd pair!, November 29, 2011
By madcow
I ordered the small (I am a 29" waist, with 30" inseam). The liner fits great, with no bunching up issues and no diaper-like feeling to the wear. In fact, it's very easy to put these on and to forget I'm even wearing them because of how comfortable they are. I bought only one pair to be on the safe side since I had read terrible reviews about similar products by other brands. After I wore this liner for about 50 miles of riding over a few days, I went back to order a 2nd pair.

By Raymund
I bought these a week ago, and I'm very happy with them. I've ridden with them twice and they were very comfortable; they didn't bunch or move around, and the protection was ideal. I then rode last night without them, and the difference was quite noticeable.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great replacement liner, August 19, 2011
By Brian Stevens
These shorts fit great, holds everything as it should. They have a great mesh for wearing under other shorts. I bought a pair of Zoic MTB shorts, and the liner part wore out fast. These Izumis replaced them perfectly. If you need replacement shorts, these will work great, and are cheaper that Fox's liners, and cooler than Canari's. I have not owned them long, so I cannot speak to their longevity.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Just nice!, July 19, 2011
By Guilherme
The best thing about this liner is that you can wear it with any shorts on top, so the versatility is a big positive.
I've wear it about 15 times now and it still looks like new.
The padding is just the right size and very comfortable.
The only slight downside is that in the summer it can be kind of hot, but every short would be....

5.0 out of 5 stars.  WOW! Good Deal and Comfortable, July 12, 2011
By Nick K6
Luckily for a price spike on Pearl Izumi Pros (77 to 103) I decided to get these under my trouser liners. I could not be happier for under $30 shipped. These things made my ride much more enjoyable. The chamois does feel like foam. At the end of my 2 hour ride my bum was a bit tired, but nothing compared to riding bare before. I could see how a gel like material could help reduce fatigue a bit more than these, but for now and at that price I have a few pairs on the way and I will stick with these until I get the courage to try riding in Lycra :o

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Relief at Last!!, July 3, 2011
By Rob JR (Dallas, TX United States)
This is the third liner I have tried and the first one that works! I wear a pair of Pearl Izumi Quest shorts over it and am totally comfortable on my rides of up to twenty miles. I have no doubt they would be as good for longer rides as well.
Lots of padding and it is soft and comfortable! I don't think anyone could go wrong with this liner. They are true to size and I ordered a large, and now I realize I could have used a Medium, but it still works.

This is the same liner that comes with their Canyon shorts which I also own and I now own a couple of these liners to wear with the shorts. They are super comfortable and the chamois is great. I also own Canari and Cannondale short/liner combos but Pearl Izumi is the best.

Great fit. Absolutely no chaffing. A very comfortable ride. I previously bought a pair of shorts with a sewn-in liner. They look good, but caused a good deal of chaffing. I bought these liners, used them under my winter pants and have had nothing but good rides all winter.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Not exactly as described, March 11, 2012
By yeltom
Have not tried these yet, so ignore my star rating (which for some dumb reason is required). These are apparently an updated or different model from what is described. The inseam is 7", not 6", and there are no grippers on the legs. Although the description does not mention grippers, many of the reviews mention them, so I thought I'd be getting them too. I wonder why PI decided to make these without grippers... Any ideas?

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Thought I was going to have to give my bike away...., May 16, 2012
By Michael Stephenson (Jackson, MS USA)
I had been trying for a couple of weeks to get past the perineum pain that came after only a few miles of pedaling. I ordered these shorts out of desperation -- I didn't see myself as the bike short type -- did the trick. They're perfect for me. If they can make things right for a 60-pound-overweight fifty-something, I suspect they could benefit the average person even more.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  best, May 14, 2012
By agmtb (Tucson, Az. USA)
I've tried a lot of shorts, liners, these rule. Bought 3 so when I travel I just take one shell and 3 liners for 3 days of fresh making my suitcase light. My 33" waist fits a medium. In winter I wear these as a base tights and shorts on top, so easy to shed the tights when it warms.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Don't sacrifice style for comfort, May 14, 2012
By Paul R. Dunay
Bought these after many positive reviews.
Wanted a liner short for mountain biking that I could wear under any pair of shorts I chose. (See title)
This liner short doesn't disappoint. Have worn them on around 8 rides so far and they simply work. High quality materials, fast drying (even while wearing).
The chamois is sewn in well and is sufficient for my 12-20 mile trail rides over technical terrain with no chafing or bunching, plus the compression short gripping leg endings hold nicely in place.
I have a size 35 waist and bought the Large size.
Just don't put them in a dryer per the instructions. Air dry for longevity. I paid $28 two months ago. Go for it. Don't look back. I'll be gaining on you.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great inner shorts, May 13, 2012
By UROMD
This is my second pair. They are great for mountain biking, especially if you're a little modest and don't want to be seen in lycra. They are very cool so layering them with a MTB shorts won't make you feel stuffy. The padding is of very good quality and is stays supportive (I weigh 240lbs) even on long rides. The elastic on the legs fit very well and don't constrict my big legs too much. I hardly notice them. The only negative I can think of is if you are looking for some form of muscle support because the elastic on the thigh area isn't very tight. The support is very minimal but the tradeoff is great comfort. I highly recommend these for wearing underneath baggy MTb shorts.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent Value Riding Undershorts, May 7, 2012
By Ray Sullivan (Greensboro NC)
While these riding shorts are very well made and a great value, I may have inadvertently ordered a size a bit smaller than I wished. I read as many comments as possible to determine that Medium was best. Perhaps I should have erred on the larger size. In any case, I'm not returning them because I do like them. They definitely add some excellent cushioning in synergy with my Schwinn silicone gel seat cover to make riding my Schwinn Airdyne AD2a a more pleasant experience. If you have a rather small derriere, go with the Medium, otherwise order Large for approx 77-80 kg/175 cm male. They could also be useful for sitting on unpadded benches etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Cycling w pearl izumi mens liner shorts, April 30, 2012
By architecture student
When you first take these shorts out of the packaging, the padding appears to be a bit bulky. However, once I put them on and went out for my first ride this spring, (35miles) I realized how comfortable they were straight out before I even "wore them in." I've been riding for 25-40 miles at a time and these shorts are great for those distances even considering I weigh 205lbs and have a somewhat uncomfortable saddle. I would imagine that for the small 150lb and under riders out there these might have too much padding and might not be their preference although I dont think they would be uncomfortable. Overall an excellent short at an excellent value.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very Nice, Comfortable, and High Quality, April 27, 2012
By Jones
I have bought other liners for about the same price, but they don't compare to the quality of these Pearl Izumi's. And the price was very reasonable. The padding covers more "area" and is thicker. They are comfortable while riding with shorts over them. Someone mentioned that these could be used without anything over them, but I don't know about that. The liners seem too much like underwear.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good product, not for all, April 26, 2012
By brownsfan4life (Columbus, OH USA)
I have never been comfortable with wearing skin tight cycling shorts, but wanted something I could wear under a pair of regular shorts that would offer the same padding and chaffing elimination advantages that cycling shorts offer. This product looked like the best bet to me and it does indeed serve those purposes.

The shorts are well made and high quality. The sweat wicking properties of the fabric work as advertised and I did not have any problems with chaffing after my ride in these. These appear to be "built to last" and I don't forsee any issues with them disintegrating or tearing in the future as long as they are cared for as instructed by the manufacturer. Pearl Izumi makes quality stuff and I have a bunch of their products included with my cycling wardrobe.

The reason I knocked off one star is because I just can't get quite comfortable in these. There is a padded section in the rear and crotch area that is shaped like a bicycle seat that I found to be very awkward to walk around in and felt a bit weird riding on as well. Additionally, these really constrict my package which is really bothersome for me. I do not like being bound in that area and like to be free down there. Having said that, I can't really blame Pearl Izumi for this because these are my own personal preferences.

I am an ample sized man and ordered an extra large. My build is very thick and muscular and I have very large thighs, so I figured I would need to order a size up because I usually need to do so with any item of clothing that is skin tight. Upon receiving the shorts and trying them on I found that the fit on my legs and around my waist was fine, but the padded area extended down a bit too far from my crotch. After seeing this I ordered another pair in large and they fit just fine. If you are ordering these, order true to fit and not a size up like I did for the first pair.

I will still use these, although I have ordered some other underwear that have the same materials without the padding for my rides. If you already have a good padded bike seat than you would probably be better off doing the same and skipping this product. If you have constant issues with pain in the rear and crotch area from riding then these would probably be beneficial for you to wear when riding as long as you do not have the same discomfort issues in regards to binding and the odd sensation of the rear and crotch padding while walking that I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  excellent product, April 22, 2012

The Liner is very comfortable and works as advertised. this is meant to be worn under baggies, like mountain biking shorts. It is 1 piece which is what it should be to work correctly. The description said removable chamois which I didn't believe, because I can't imagine that functioning comfortably

Just thought I would drop my opinion into the mix. I love these shorts. They obviously should be worn with an over-short of some type as they are somewhat see through. I use a pair of running shorts 7" inseam seems to work well. The size seems to run about right(ie. XL fit me and I have 27" thighs. I especially like the legs as the band around them is not rigged but soft and it still holds very snug to my thighs. The padding is perfect it's great for my bike seat and doesn't feel like it's all bunched up around me. I think a couple folks said it was hard to walk in, but to me if they are pulled firmly up against your under-carriage I don't even notice them while walking unlike my other shorts where I could feel it hanging loose.

I just purchased two additional pair of these liners for riding my bike. I initally purchased one pair based on some of the previous reviews, and they were totally correct. These liners keep your "junk" up and out of the way. I went for the liners because I think wearing compression shorts are just downright silly looking.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works surprisingly well, March 30, 2012

They were awkward to put on at first due to the thick padding, but they ended up fitting very nicely. 10 mile+ rides are much more comfortable now,

The best part is that you can machine wash them on a cold light duty cycle. Just make sure to NOT put them in the dryer -- hang them instead.
