Amazing fishing kayak!, May 23, 2011

First of all, know exactly what you are buying. You are buying a FISHING KAYAK, not a touring kayak. I use this as a single person kayak, though it can be used as a tandem.
The kayak is heavy, almost 70 lbs, and it's wide. If you're under 5'9" you are going to have a hard time using the single side carrying handle since the yak is so wide.
Standing up, sitting down and casting are surprisingly easy, though being only 5'5" I have a low center of gravity so it may be easier for me than most.
The features are great. I replaced the seat back with a higher end touring seat and would recommend you do the same if you will be using the yak for more than 2 hours. The yak came with 2 paddles, 2 seat backs and 5 scupper plugs even though there are only 2 scupper holes. The built in tie down points, waterproof rear entry point and fold down paddle clips are invaluable!
There is even a molded hole in the rear of the frame for a future motor mount which I plan on using.
For the $500 I paid, shipped, I couldn't have asked for a more perfect fishing kayak.

Fantastic, Convenient, and Fun, July 13, 2011
By Amazonaholic

I ordered this for my husband for Fathers Day. I didn't want a 'boat' we had to deal with the licensing; trailer and more licensing; light hook-up; taxes, and more taxes; etc.
This seemed a perfect size that we could lift and maneuver together, and it is. We are in our 50's, so not so strong as we used to be, and we can easily lift this up into our truck camper. It fits in there beautifully when we take the table down to make a bed, and lift the nose of the Kayak into the over cab bed. Takes us about 30 seconds to load and a minute to unload. Initially I had planned on staying inside the camper while he went out to fish, but felt well enough to at least try it with him for an hour or so.
We ventured out to a quiet, empty, glass still lake to try it for the first time. I will say it takes a little bit of finesse to get 'on' and 'off' , but it is made extremely well balanced and we did not get dumped into the lake. I think if we find a boat dock to use it will make it easier on our non-limber bones. Anyway, once we got out and began our adventure we did TRY to tip this over and we gave it quite a rocking and I'm pleased to tell you it didn't spill us. ( For the Ladies, I went out in a dress too, and paddled Hubby all across the lake while he fished. It was plenty comfortable to wear a skirt or dress in!!! ) We were amazed with how comfortable this is. We did not have cushions, or padding of any sort, didn't even use the seat backs that came with it, but we stayed out our first time for 4 hours. I have back pain, Husband bad hips, and neither of us had any discomfort during, or after. Just looked a bit silly getting in and out. :)
I have to say, this was one of the best purchases I have made in a long time. Although originally purchased for my Husband alone, it became a double gift. I can be out and enjoy the stillness and quiet of a morning slowly drifting in this little Kayak, and he can sit in the rear seat fishing to his hearts content as I navigate.
Thanks so much, once again, Amazon. Because we live in a small town in Nowhere USA, had I not seen this on Amazon, we wouldn't have known it existed. Many years of quiet weekend mornings ahead with this purchase, and for the happiness this has brought us... priceless!!!

Good Fishing Kayak, June 29, 2011
By Daniel Carter
|
|
First thing about this transaction is that Amazon shipped this Kayak QUICKLY. I had the Kayak three days before the estimated delivery. Very Impressed. But now to the Kayak itself. The main hull of the kayak is designed well...you have clips to hold your oars and four fishing pole holders which are great! The chair design though is lacking...first there is NO bottom cushion...and the back support is kinda tricky to use and depending on your size almost not worth using. I personally don't put mine on at all when I use it. So if your looking for a LUXURY kayak this isn't it...but then again if you want luxury get a real boat. I had NO leaks whatsoever! As far as transporting the kayak...if you have to carry the kayak for any real distance...you may have trouble. There is only ONE gripping handle on the kayak??! And the kayak is far too heavy to carry with one hand without dragging it. So...just think about how your gunna be using the kayak before you buy it...It's doing great for me as far as getting to fishing holes that were once unaccessable by foot. Oh and one more thing...depending on your size you won't be putting 3 people on that kayak!! I'm 6'2" and its about perfect for me by MYSELF.

Awesome fishing kayak!, July 15, 2011
By Pat in TX

I bought the Dragonfly Sport Fisher Kayak about 3 yrs ago to fish out of. Since you stay so dry in this kayak, I was able to fish all winter. I am 5'10" and 190lbs and I had plenty of room when using it as a single. The paddles that come with it are too short in my opinion. The kayak is wide and it seemed I was not able to get a good bite in the water with a natural stroke. So, I bought a longer paddle and the problem was solved. The layout and stability of this kayak awesome. I used this kayak in the Gulf of Mexico earlier this year and it handled some pretty good size waves with ease, and I still didn't get wet. When paddling this kayak by yourself, it moves along pretty well, but add a 2nd person and that changes. With a weight capacity of 500lbs, it will hold two people and gear with ease, but if your paddling hard trying to stay up with other people you tend to get out of rythm, and end up banging paddles alot. The second down side is this kayak is not fast enough to stay up with most other tandem kayaks. I Went on a trip with my brother and we couldn't even come close to staying up with him. My wife and I were in the Dragonfly and my brother was in his Ocean Malibu II XL, with most of the gear and two children. He was the only one paddling in his yak. So, if you want to do a day trip or longer with other people, you will probably struggle to keep up. But, if you purely want a fishing kayak then I would buy it. I sold mine this year and bought a bigger tandem and I have kicked myself every time I've gone fishing for getting rid of my Dragonfly. I should have kept the Dragonfly and bought a touring yak.

Overall good but not sealed, August 4, 2011
By dlique

Its great for solo or tandem, very bulky and difficult to carry solo, I thought there was a dry storage in the back but it was just a hatch into the inside of the kayak. My main complaint is this storage hatch and the rod holders are not water tight and will let water leak inside. I had one trip where it rained and the kayak was filled up with about 1/3 of water on the inside of it.

Lifetime Fishing Kayak a Great Buy!, July 12, 2011
By Matt C
|
|
I purchased this kayak for fishing in this tuff places and it has worked out great! Shipping was fast and free and the product arrived in great shape. As for the Kayak itself the paddles it comes with are and clip on to the side of the kayak nicely. This kayak is a tandem kayak but can be used by yourself. It is at least 55-60 pounds so getting it up on to the car racks can be difficult if you are not tall enough, but manageable. IF you are planning on using this alone I would find the Lifetime Solo Fishing Kayak for its smaller. This kayak does have three seats, but only an adult and two kids could fit comfortably. My brother and I use it and we are both 6 feet 200 plus pounds and fit nicely in it. The seat backs it come with are very small and provide minimum back support. I highly recommend purchasing some raised seats with cushions. This kayak also has a placed to mount a small motor which may come in handy come lake time. The rod holders work well but the internal storage advertised is just hole into the bow of the Kayak. Recommend getting a anchor as well if you want to stay stationary. Overall for the price this is the best buy on the internet.....no joke.

Great Inexpensive Fishing Kayak, September 10, 2011
By ChrisF (Northern WI)
|
|
After buying and using this boat for a nice long three mile river paddle/fishing trip I can recommend it to anyone looking for a lower priced but high quality and stable fishing kayak. I also highly recommend it to larger people that want to go have fun and not swamp their boat. I'm approx 6 foot and just under three hundred and found the seating area and leg room very nice when set up for one paddler (with the Crazy Creek Kayak III seat and a 240cm paddle). I had the entire rear deck and hull area to store stuff and the front bungees were in perfect range for my dry bag and life jacket.
Being a wide and relatively short kayak you will not be breaking speed records and you may have an issue with tracking at times (side currents or high winds). That said, this is a FISHING/PLEASURE style kayak. Not a long distance fast cruising machine. If you want a sleek fast cruiser, look at a sit in kayak or a touring sit on top kayak and pay the $1000 for it. If you want to fish within a few miles of the launch point or want to go paddle with friends for fun without tossing a grand at it, buy this one.
At a good steady paddle on flat water you can get a nice brisk walking speed out of it. And you won't tucker yourself out doing it. If you really want to make time, you will tire yourself paddling that hard. Once up to speed at a regular paddle it tracks fairly well. Not on rails, but you won't spend all day correcting your path either.
For the reduction in top speed and some tracking you will gain great stability, instant turning whenever you want and a crazy 500lb weight capacity. 500 lbs. Think about that. That's a lot of stuff, or two big people.
Know this, as a sit on top, you're legs will get a little wet as you paddle. It's inevitable as you paddle side to side. Even with a wide paddle. Pull the scupper plugs in the back and the footwells will drain for you while you paddle.
The interior of the hull stayed dry as a bone the entire day. It WILL leak if you get water in the pole holders. Being blow molded the hull cannot be water tight inside or it will bow out of shape when the air inside gets hot in storage. But, it has a drain cock if you let it sit in the rain or something and get water inside.
The one thing this kayak needs is a rudder. Add a rudder off the back and your tracking issues will disappear and the kayak will get even better. With a rudder, five mile river trips would be no issue. Lifetime says they have a rudder for this boat, but I cannot find it anywhere. I found the trolling motor mount on Lifetime's website, but no rudder. I hope they make one soon, or someone invents a nice one.
I'm very pleased with this purchase. Years of fun await.
I've posted pictures to help those that want better views. If you want other views of this kayak, comment below and I'll post them.

Not sluggish, September 9, 2011
By Stink Stink (Washington, DC)

I'm extremely please with this kayak! I was expecting it to be sluggish in the water, but it wasn't - if you can't paddle this kayak than you don't know how to paddle a kayak. I'm 6'4" 210lbs and fit; my two kids weight a combined 150lbs . . . all three of us were in this kayak (360lbs!) and it maneuver d beautifully. Due to it's wide beam it is too awkward for me to carry a respectable distance by myself; however, this wide beam is yet another reason why I like it; I'll use it for fishing primarily and this wide base gives me a stable platform to stand on. This will be my go-to fishing kayak.

Tough, great, sturdy kayak!, September 9, 2011
By Longhorn
|
|
This is a great, economical, multi-function kayak which my family loves. I researched and looked at MANY styles and prices of kayaks after moving to a coastal/marsh neighborhood and tested a few different styles of kayaks from a friend who owns a kayak touring/adventure company. If you've shopped kayaks much you'll be challenged to find one that is good for solo, adult tandem, and adult with two children. After shopping Craigs List/Gander Mountain/Academy/Bass Pro/Dick's Sporting Goods for an economical tandem I saw this at Amazon. With a wife and two children I've been able to comfortably use this kayak solo, with my wife, and with my two children. It's easy to bungee strap a milk crate on the front and back to have a great, roomy, sturdy fishing platform considering all the rod holders that already come with it. The kayak can handle the surf/chop pretty well but the back hatch/rold holders/etc. need to be siliconed or some water gets into the hull. This yak is WIDE, pretty heavy, and VERY sturdy. I'm 5' 9" 180# and can stand up and cast net when the chop isn't high. I can't wait to try it out this fall on some hunting & camping trips. Since it's short, wide, heavy this yak won't win any races and requires a little more paddle effort. The paddles are a pretty good design (especially for free) but are a bit short for the width of the yak. The seat backs are pretty good but you'll need a boat cushion or "deluxe" seat for some butt padding. Overall this yak has been GREAT for our family and we've had many adventures in it...HIGHLY recommended. This gets 5 stars since it offers more features and performance than any kayaks in this price range.
PROS:
1. Price
2. Versatility (1, 2, 3 people)
3. Many features (2 paddles, rod holders, hatch, 2 back rests)
4. Sturdy/Stable
CONS:
1. Doesn't keep all the water out (can be fixed with silicone)
2. Quite wide/heavy/slow
3. The seats don't have a bottom cushion

glad i bought it, August 15, 2011
By 57guy (ohio)

|
i purchased this in the hope of hitting some good fishing spots. For fishing it works great. lots of room. nice little dry storage and recently a motor mount which i bought but havent received yet. good for 2 people at the most. for fishing its great. now the bad, its really wide making it pretty slow in the water. in a tandem kayak i can solo outpaddle most people in canoes. however with this kayak i dont think i can even keep up with a canoe. it doesnt track well through the water either. there's alot of wobble side to side. even harder with 2 people paddling. if you intend to fish i think it would be great. but if you want to kayak to sight see, i dont recommend it. all in all it was a good purchase. got it with a special credit card offer for 100 off and even more off after that so in the end it was like 370 free shipping. you cant beat that.
update
have the motor mount now and it works great. a bit pricey at $249 but it lets you add a lot of range to your fishing trips.

it does float, May 15, 2012
By slabbuster

it does float, how ever it kinda sucks. if your fishing on a windy day forget about it. even with out wind this kayak does not cut well through the water at all. I was getting smoked by canoes and paddle boats on the lake. and the feet rest thingies are a joke, the seat hurts you but and back. rod holders are not in good places. it would be ok with trolling motor and not really designed for a fish finder.

excellent fishing kayak, November 1, 2011
By albert (usa)
|
|
This kayak is very stable and wide compare to other kayaks. This makes it very comfortable because of the width. I was able to fit 3 adults (400lb.) without any problem. It came with 2 paddles and 2 back rests. Excellent deal for what you get in this quality kayak. I got it before the price increase of course.

Great kayak for fishing!, September 5, 2011
By wvboy (Peterstown, WV)

This is a great kayak. It is great for fishing. I can stand up in it and fish. It is very sturdy. And, I can take my 6 year old boy with me when I go. It comes with 2 paddles and 2 backrests (not seats). The backrests are not the greatest. I am going to get me a seat for it eventually. I would recommend this kayak. I love mine.
