Shimano SH-R087, June 22, 2011
By Vegas Scott

Although I am using this pair of cycling shoes I am not really happy with them.
I got them a couple months ago and the first thing I noticed was that the right shoe hurt my foot. The stiff mount for the micro adjuster was exactly on a nerve. By loosening the ratchet and making sure the tongue is away from that area it is ok. I hope that will work better with time.
Another thing I don't like is the heel pad. Wearing Speedplay cleats makes the shoe tip so that very little of the heel pad touches the ground at stops. I may have to modify them with my own pad soon.
On the plus side they are light, and the micro adjustment allows for a snug fit. My first Shimanos lasted about five years so I expect these to do the same.

Great Shoes!, September 1, 2011
By TpTass

|
These shoes are probably one of the best I have ever cycled with; gone on a bunch of 40 milers and the shoes feel perfect. Just like all shoes though you're usually always best trying them on before buying as everyone has different size feet - so don't be deterred by a few people who have commented on soreness. I haven't had any issues and since the shoes are relatively soft (expect in the toe/heal) they mold very well to your feet. The tightening clip on the shoes are a little different then some shoes, the release clip is a lot smaller and may take some getting used to over the side by side clips that some shoes have. After the first few times I hardly notice - as you're only taking them off after you're done.
Also, I was originally sent the incorrect shoes from Giant Nerd, but they were extremely responsive sending me the correct shoes and everything required to return the incorrect shoes.

Comfortable shoe, great value, December 10, 2011

I have just over 300 miles experience with these shoes. They fit well, the size chart seems accurate. They are fairly light and the ratcheting top strop and two velcro closures allow for a snug but comfortable fit. They perform well with Shimano 105 pedals. I can't speak directly to longevity, but I have the M087 mountain bike shoe (same upper, different sole) which has held up well for over 1500 miles, now.

Great shoe for the price!, July 30, 2011
By Bret Kilefner (PA)

These shoes are great. It is amazing the difference between clip in pedals and the pedals with the strap. you can literally glide up mountains with them. I recommend getting the shimano pedals with these shoes. The shoe itself its quite rigid for maximum power transfer. the inside of them is very vented. I have taken the shoe out for some 50 milers and have yet to experience hot foot or numbness. All in all a great shoe that I highly recommend

affordable shoe that feels great, February 16, 2012

Affordable quality shoe that fits great. you will love ratcheting strap that gives you a real snug fit and allows for quick release. I was worried about the Euro sizing but the conversion was right on for me and being able to get a wide version was awesome.

Great shoe., February 7, 2012

I've had these shoes for over a year. I bought them at my LBS and am using them with Speedplay Zero cleats. I love them! They are breathable, comfortable on long rides and not too bad looking. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat!

Great shoe for Amateur cyclist, January 30, 2012
By Mark D. Solt (NEW YORK, US)

Bought these shoes to go with my old SPD pedals (I liked the optionality to used roads too if the need arises).
The first thing I noticed is that after over about a half hour my right foot would start hurting. I don't think it's anything to do with the shoe (I'll make an edit in a few weeks if I feel it is) as I have a bit of forefoot varus, but I definitely feel it a lot more with these shoes. The fix is just getting the shimming right.
I have narrow feet and they were rolling around in the shoes a little (couldn't get them the right tightness) so I bought a pair of A-Line soles which have made all the difference in the world. The shoes now fit perfectly snug. Also, the micro-adjust ratchet is AMAZING, and I will never buy a shoe without it going forward.
Overall... quality shoe, fit seems right on (maybe a bit wide). I can't speak to longevity as I've only put a couple hundred miles on them. Decently light
Definitely a great shoe for the price!

Great shoe for wide feet, January 24, 2012
By W. White (New York)
|
|
I just wanted to let others with wide feet know that these shoes fit well on my feet. I wear a US 9.5 EEEE shoe, and I purchased the size 44 wide shoes. While not quite as wide as my feet, they're much more comfortable then other cycle shoes I've worn. Although these aren't "Custom" fit shoes, the fine adjustments in the velcro and ratchet on the shoe's upper mean I can make these as tight or loose as I require.
I use these with SPD style cleats and I've been able to use them both on my road bike as well as on a spin bike without trouble.

Great fit for wide feet!, April 6, 2012
By Greg Barnes (Seattle, WA United States)

This shoes are a life saver. I normally wear a EE shoe with any athletic shoes I have, and have even worn a 4E (I've always joked that I have "Duck feet" since they are wide and fairly flat). When I first got my bike I had a pair of Adidas that were 44Cm, which is a tiny bit small overall, but they came with the bike (I bought it used from a guy that was about my same size). These would cause my feet to go numb even before I got on the bike! Riding any rides over a couple hours would pretty much ensure that I had no feeling in my entire feet (the numbness starts at the toe box and moves up).
With the Shimano shoes in a Wide size I've not had any of these issues. The fit is very comfortable (though it was weird to have a little hole in the bottom of the shoe where my middle toe is) and I think they look pretty good. I'll be taking them on a 50 mile ride soon and can update the review afterwards if I remember.

As Advertised - Great Cycling Shoes, April 4, 2012
By John D. Meara (Barrington, Rhode Island)

I have not had these long, but I waited until I put approximately 50 miles on them before I reviewed them. These shoes, in conjunction with the pedals, are my first at click in pedals. Thus, I don't have a great ability to compare them to other shoe/ pedal experiences.
Why I Purchased: Based on conversations, it seemed as though cycling shoes and pedals allows you to more efficiently "pedal" as you are able to exert power on the up swing of your leg's rotation.
What I Wanted: Nice shoes from a dependable company that makes quality gear.
These shoes have satisfied my needs. They are well constructed, have nice buckles and straps, are comfortable, reasonably priced, and stylish. The cleats are easy to place on the shoe and they work well with the Shimano PD-5700 105 Road Bike Pedals, Silver that I purchased from Amazon.
If you are a new cyclist and on the fence about purchasing click in pedals, I would recommend it.
Pros: Affordable (in a relative sense); well constructed (stitching, buckles, straps, and cleats), from a very well-respected company; well-reviewed; comfortable; prime eligible; and as stylish as bike shoes can get.
Cons: Sizing. I wear a 9.5 in New Balance Shoes. I can go to a 9. I ordered a 43 and they were too big. A 42 was just right for me.
I recommend this product and give my stamp of approval to it.

Good shoe for wide feet, March 20, 2012
By wwhite0011

I have a really wide forefoot and narrow heel and the Shimano SH-R087GE fits my foot the way it should. It is not tight anywhere but it also does slide around. Very comfortable shoe that does not cost a fortune.

This shoes are a perfect pick for anyone who just got it first bike. I was advised to order one size big, but I think my shoe size would have had an even better pick, but anyway these are great.

Cool Looking - Good Fit, May 10, 2012
By tokesan (Long Beach, CA)

I am an indoor cyclist and have not ridden outdoors since teenage years - I am a spinner. I am getting ready to take spinning instructor certification and thought I need to start looking like I mean business. Plus the cross-trainer shoes I have been wearing are hurting my shin and calves. I decided on a pair of Shimano. I must have looked for an entire week at all the available brands on Amazon before settling on Shimano. I read reviews, compared what people wrote about fitting and stuff. Note that they don't come with cleats, so figure extra $19 to the cost of the shoes. Shimano is a name I recognized; I have a freelancer photographer friend who shot pictures of Shimano bike and fishing parts in California (he is a cyclist), though I didn't contact him before settling on this. I ordered size 49, equivalent to US 13, which was too big and I normally wear size 13 shoes. But I took them to local Performance Cycling to compare with other brands and other Shimano styles. The gentleman that helped me said he wished he had these in his collection - this style in gray is just cool looking. My replacements were size 48 and they came a day earlier thanks to Giantnerd fast service. I hope they give me full refund on the size 49 am sending back - will update this post later.
Update, May 17. Still loving the shoes and have been using them for about a week. Fellow spinners at the club love them too. The 48/W is a good fit, maybe a tinsy-winsy big - nothing that a thicker pair of socks couldn't fix. Oh, I got my full refund on the 49/W I bought originally.
