First clip in shoes, April 1, 2011
By strangedaze

These are the first pair of clip-in shoes I've owned.I have gone on a couple rides now and these shoe/new pedals make it so much easier to ride it feels like they unlocked power I didnt know I had. They also breathe really well I went out on a 80 degree day and my feet did not sweat at all.Overall I like the shoes and would buy again. One other thing I really like how these shoes look just like any other shoe not like the crazy road bike shoes I looked at and these are easy to walk around in but obviously I wouldn't recommend walking around alot in these seeing as they are for bike riding.

Excellent. I am not at all disappointed in these shoes., June 21, 2011

My bike has clipless pedals and the only shoes I could use with them were very obviously biking shoes. That was fine for serious riding, but when I wanted to just go for a ride around the neighborhood I found myself looking ridiculous because of the aggressive styling of most cycling shoes.
These shoes are perfect for casual riding of my not so casual bike. They perform just as good as any other cycling shoes, but look and feel more like regular sneakers.
My only complaint about these is that the cleat should be a little more recessed. As they are now, the cleats hit the ground slightly, making a distinctive and loud sound. On my more aggressive cycling shoes that doesn't bother me, but if the intent behind these is to work as regular, street shoes, they should have made it so the cleat doesn't clang on the ground.
The other minor issue, is the shoelace retention strap isn't tight enough to hold the laces well.
Even with these two small issues, I give these shoes 5 stars. For what I needed them for, they are perfect. Cycling shoe functionality in styling that can pass as casual shoes.

Great shoe., April 27, 2011

I paid $70ish for these. I have no complaints. These are my first bike shoes. I ride a road bike, But I think the road shoes look ridiculous so I got these. Their pretty comfortable. Definitely stiff, but that's to be expected(compared to a regular shoe). Very breathable, They seem to be great quality. I would recommend these if anyone asked.

Excellent shoes!!!!, July 31, 2011
By Christian Escobar

These shoes are great! They perform well for long rides but they are best suited for commuting since they weigh more than high-performance cycling shoes. Sizes do run small however, so order one size larger than your normal size. I highly recommend them! I commute 9 miles each way and they have worked out very well for me.

Good entry level shoe, September 3, 2011
By Steve Klein (LAUREL SPRINGS, NC, US)

These are my first clip in riding shoes. They have been very comfortable and so far I am very happy with them. They are priced right for someone like me who wants to try clipping in for the first time. The only negative has been what other reviewers have mentioned, the cleat sticks out and hits the ground when walking. If you are on pavement it will wear them down. However, it should not stop you from purchasing them.

Great initial cleat SPD shoes!, December 12, 2011
By Rene Gomez Genao

If you're new using bike cleats, I strongly recommend you these shoes since they detach much easier then other conventional bike cleat shoes. One thing to have in mind prior ordering, is to get an additonal half or one full size to your actual shoe size, since the point of the shoe has a hard cover and you will be making pressure at the tip while you pedal. Thus, you will be able to use socks that are more gross and comfortable.

Fine shoes, January 3, 2012
By Hal DeVera, MD (Davis, CA)

I recently got into road biking (age 60) and I like my shoes comfortable, so I purchased these mountain bike shoes. I didn't realize they came with cleats, so I purchase shamano cleats too. My bad. Anyway, it certainly is easy to install the cleats and adjust them perfectly to the balls of your feet. Only down side is the top rubs against my ankle slightly, but after a few times using it, I don;t notice it anymore. Never caused me any blisters or abrasions. Shoes easy to walk in without scratching wood floors to get out of house and go biking. Highly recommend these shoes.

great shoe, well vented, December 21, 2011
By spodi (Austin Tejas)

This pair of shoes is replacing an old pair of Cannondale MTB shoes. These are well vented (almost too much so for cool weather riding). Over all an excellent purchase.
The only qualm I have would be with the sizing, they seem to run a little smaller than the other size 43 shoes I have, not so much that it makes for an uncomfortable fit, but a little more snug than I was expecting.

Good looking bike shoe, suitable for commuting, January 28, 2012
By Adam Solomon (Brookline, MA USA)

If you're a bike commuter looking for a shoe you can ride in and wear around a casual office, this is a great shoe. I've got a 30 mile round trip commute in the Boston area and I've been very impressed with this shoe. I've used it for about 360 miles of winter riding so far and they are very solid. As a pedal platform, they are fairly stiff.
I've used them comfortably down to 13F coupled with thick socks, chemical warmers, and Planet Bike toe covers. The shoes are well-ventilated via mesh uppers, so they are not water proof or water resistant. Without the covers I don't think they would very comfortable much below 50F. I bought size 45 so I would have room in the shoe for the thicker socks and warmers. I normally wear size 43.
My coworkers, used to my more standard bike shoes (Diadora MTB shoes) were surprised that these were bike shoes. Several asked if I had retrofitted regular shoes. They are comfortable enough to walk around in and the cleats (yes, you have buy them separately) are recessed enough that you don't sound like you're wearing tap shoes.
I'm very happy with the SH-MT33L shoes. I would buy them again and recommend them to a friend without hesitation.

Functional and Comfortable., November 14, 2011
By DubStep (San Francisco)

Don't be fooled into paying an outrageous amount for MtB shoes. These shoes will do everything you need. I bought this pair as an extra for taking my larger footed mates on some rides. As stated in the product review, these do not come with hardware for mounting your clips, so be sure to buy the hardware too.
My mates have likened wearing these to wearing a pair of tennis shoes or running shoes. They are comfortable for MtB. My only gripe is that they are piss poor for draining water, so if you tend to get wet on your rides, these will definitely take on the extra weight of water.
That being said, it is far from being a deal breaker. These are functional, stylish, and comfy. Everything you need for xcountry mtb.

Blind purchase went well, October 27, 2011
By S. Hammock

This is my first pair of clipless shoes and I've been satisfied with them. I'm not one to buy things so subjective as shoes online, but I took a look at the European sizes on a few of my other shoes and chose the number that seemed to be the average and purchased these shoes online. They've been good. They fit well and look like normal shoes.

Good shoe, cheezy cleats, September 8, 2011
By pkschul (Burke, VA United States)
|
|
I guess I expected these shoes to come with real cleats. The "cleats" it comes with are just recesses the fit in the pedal. I guess this is ok for a beginner, but if you want to truly be "clipped in" you'll need to spend an extra $15 or more on SPD cleats and swap them out. Otherwise the shoe is comfortable and breathes well.

Not bad for the price but..., May 16, 2012
By Joseph A. Yohe (Apollo, PA USA)

after about 5-6 miles into my ride, my right toes fall asleep and then about 20+ miles in the ball on my left foot begins to hurt. I tried using new inserts in the shoes and different sock thicknesses but still the same. Played with cleat placement as well with no change. Probably just my foot design but I am looking to replace these with a better quality shoe. I believe they deserve a 3 but I gave them a 4 because I honestly believe my feet are some of the problem.

Great Shoes! Highly Recommended!, May 8, 2012
By Brent Rankin (Sturgeon Bay, WI)

I wanted to get back into mountain biking, but just as a hobby. So I didn't want anything fancy for shoes, just a pair that looked casual, and functional for walking around after biking somewhere.
I rarely purchase shoes online for the fact that I have very wide, flat feet and on average wear a size 11.5 and on occasion I wear 12's. But I figured I would try them out since they have good reviews. I ended up purchasing a size 47, which would be 12 - 12.5 US men's athletic shoe.
When trying them on, they ended up fitting perfect! They look like a narrower shoe, but still give me the support needed (probably due to the stiff sole). I like the feel of walking around in them, and they are very comfortable. The ventilation of the shoes seems to be pretty good as well but we haven't had any days hotter than 70 deg F yet.
A couple things I will mention about the shoes, kind of downfalls, but not enough to take away a star. These shoes do not come with a metal cleat, it is just a "plastic cleat" if that is what is even meant to be. But it does come with the nut plates for cleats, so you can save a buck there if you need to buy cleats, but they normally come with the pedals. And the last thing, which I also read on other reviews, is that after installing a metal cleat, you can hear them click off of the ground when you walk on a hard surface. I also have the cleat all the way forward on the shoe so that might make it stick out more. Again these are just little things that I noticed that may help the next buyer!
Overall I would highly recommend this shoe to a casual biker, or someone that wants a casual looking shoe for their bike.

nice shoe, April 24, 2012

nice comfortable shoe. took a little getting use to clipping in and all but once you find the sweet spot on the shoes it's simple. i wear a size 9(U.S.) and ordered a 44, it's a hair big on my feet, i would rather have room than the shoe being to tight. road about 14 miles on a local trail after work, took a few spills getting used to being clipped in but that is how you learn. happy with my purchase.

I put the 'man' in Shimano, April 17, 2012
By Carlo

|
This is my first pair of MTB shoes. These shoes are a great entry-level shoe. The price was right and fit true to size. In general, the shoes provide piece of mind once you learn how to safely detatch from your pedals. As an added bonus, you can make friends laugh as you fall over from not being able to clip-out in a timely manner. Take this reveiw with a grain of salt as it is only one man's opinion.

Excellent MTB Shoe, April 5, 2012
By Ken Giffin (Winthrop, WA USA)

I'm extremely happy with the MT33L shoes. I bought them for Moab so I would have secure footing in the event that I had to dismount quickly or walk up the steep bits of slickrock. They had great traction on rock and the cleats (eggbeaters) rarely touched. My bike frame broke (Thank you very much Gary Fisher!) near the turn around point on Amasa Back. I had to walk all the way out. These shoes made that hike-a-bike much more pleasant. They are a very good looking shoe unlike many recreational mtb shoes. They are obviously heavier and less stiff than a racing shoe but they certainly don't feel heavy or flexy. In fact they are impressively stiff for their class. They're well ventilated & offer great protection for your feet. I've heard that Shimano shoes fall apart quickly. Time will tell on that - but they seem to be very well made. They do run a bit small. I usually wear a 42 or 42-1/2 but had to go for the 43's and they are very comfortable. The laces were not at all too long or getting in the way of anything like some other people have reported. Price is very fair.

I've only used the shoes a couple of times so far, but am pleasantly surprised. I was worried they would be very uncomfortable walking around, but that's not the case.
