5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good all around shoe, April 4, 2011
By C. Peck (California, USA)
I came from the M086 shoe, which is basically the previous year's iteration with a black/white color pattern. I wore those shoes for 1.5 years and THRASHED them 3-4 times per week over rough terrain until the bottom started ripping of near the cleat. Not a great way for a shoe to go, but not bad either.

This shoe is a tad lighter and the casing is far more comfortable. I bought the exact same size as the M086, but unlike the M086, this shoe did not need any "break-in" time. It fit like a glove. It feels like the leather is softer and more flexy where you need it, all around the sides of the front foot (I have wide feet). Only the tip is stiff, so it feels amazing and you dont notice the stiffness other than the shoe having zero flex when you pedal. Silver color looks good.

My only gripe that keeps this from a 5 star: Tongue design.

The top CENTER of the tongue is a fabric, unlike the leather, that makes it nice and pliable so it doesn't dig into the top of your foot where your ankle stops and you leg starts. Well, that's great... but the SIDES of the top of the tongue (imagine a "U" shape with the fabric in the middle) are a bit thicker to accommodate the stitching of the fabric middle as well as its own leather. The result is a SLIGHTLY thicker side edge of the tongue, about 1cm wide.

This usually would not be a problem... but, it lines up perfectly with one of the harder parts of the top bucks. In the end, there is a dime-sized pressure point at the top of your foot, interior side, just below the top.

I'm finicky, I guess. My first ride was a LONG race in these and they performed admirably. I did not get a blister on this spot, and only noticed it when I was walking around. When I put the shoes on again the next day, I could definitely feel the soreness in that one spot, though.

In the end, I'd buy the same shoes again in a heartbeat. Maybe my feet are shaped weird... or maybe they will break in (only 2 rides so far).

OTHERWISE: light, stiff, good-looking, COMFORTABLE, great buckle, etc.

UPDATE: The stiff upper-tongue section that I was complaining about has broken in nicely over 2 months of riding. For the last month I have stopped noticing it. The shoes have been outstanding thus far. (changing rating to 5/5 from 4/5)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent shoes that you can walk around in, February 25, 2011
By H. Thai
These are great shoes overall, I have about 400 miles on them already and I ride anywhere between 10 and 15 miles a trip and I've never gotten blisters on them.

They really nice to walk around in once you're done with your ride. The latch system is top notch and I would recommend them to anyhow looking at entry level shoes.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Shoe size/width problem, M087 vs M087G vs M087GE, April 4, 2012
By JohnC
I have been using this shoe for over a year and found it to excellent I use them for road and mountain biking. I am buy and second pair so I have a pair at two different locations. One thing I found very confusing when I went to buy the second pair is that when you order the shoe that Amazon lists as SH-M087G (this site) it will automatically change it to SH-M087GE when you put it in your wish list or cart which is the wider version of the shoe. Amazon is supposed to be working on the problem. If you order the shoes listed as SH-087 shoes you get the normal width or wider version if you ask for the wider version.

The Shimano SH-M087 is the basic shoe number, the only different in the SH-087G is the color G stands for grey; all the shoes are grey anyway. SH-087GE means grey and the wider version.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great shoe for the money, May 23, 2011
By James
This is my first clipless shoe but I already love them. They are extremely comfortable and take no time to break in. I ride very technical terrain so the need to be able to climb in the shoe was very important and these shoes worked perfectly. The shoes are stiff when in the pedals but offer good grip when climbing slippery terrain. Altogether these are great shoes for the cost and are as comfortable as normal shoes, definitely worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very pleased, May 13, 2011
By jeremyc
These shoes fit great. They are my first pair of actual biking shoes and I wasn't sure if I'd like being clipped in. After riding with them, I'm very pleased with my decision. They are quite comfortable, rugged and the ratcheting buckle makes them feel very secure. They look sharp too!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great shoes., May 26, 2011
By eno (Midland, Mi USA)
I've used Shimano shoes for years and finally had to replace the old pair. These are comfortable and fit well. I saw the warnings about size, but the size I would normally have ordered fit just fine. I've had a bit of an issues with my feet getting numb on long rides, but I'm guessing that will go away after they break in a bit.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Wide Width Size 48mm (12.0 to 12,5 4E) Fits Perfectly, March 24, 2012
By Evolve or Die (Ubiquitous, USA)
I use these mountain bike shoes for road cycling. Searched months for a wide-width bike shoe in 12-13 4E. Needed the hard soles to stop problems caused by riding with softer sole running shoes. Never used bike shoes before so was anxious about the fit. The reviews here are correct. These shoes are perfect in 48mm for 12-12.5 4E feet. After receiving these wore them in the house for an hour to warm up the leather and break them in a little then went out for a 15 mile road ride with regular stock pedals (no cleats). These were comfortable and well designed. I can use them for riding on a mountain, hybrid, or road bike as long as the cleats and pedals match the shoes. See matching cleats and pedals below.

Shimano SM-SH56 or SM-SH51 SPD Cleat Sets
Shimano PD-A530 SPD Dual Platform Bike Pedal

Lucked out with these. Great price. Can even walk around in them for a while if needed. No regrets.

I wear 11.5EE street and athletic shoes. The 47W of this shoe will not buckle on me.
Great shoes, will exchange for 48W.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Weight Issue, April 6, 2012
By Raymond R. Grzan (San Jose, CA)
These shoes are heavy! At nearly 3 lbs you can feel every ounce. They are very stiff as well. The soles are at least 1 inch thick. I realize these are mountain bike shoes and are built to withstand a nuclear attack but I would prefer a lighter approach. Unless you are riding through a lava field or jagged obsidian I think they are a bit over done. I am sure these will last until the next ice age.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  great shoes, November 1, 2011

shoes work awesome if you have wide feet. Very comfortable. Using with road bike at the moment, and traction is great when stepping off. Not your typical mountain bike shoe.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great shoes for the price, January 18, 2012
By Bryan Rosevear (SF Bay Area, CA)
These shoes are a great bargain. Don't pay more for others shoes. These fit great right out of the box . Comfortable to walk in but stiff enough for good power transfer.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great price, November 7, 2011
By Carlos Robles McGuire
Best price around, the shoes are good, if I tighten them too much it kind of digs into the top of my foot, but its not a big deal. Having some tread on them are great if you need to walk around a bit and dont want the awkward clip walk with just flat shoes.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect. Comfortable. Affordable., March 2, 2012
By Marko14
I am brand new to the clipless pedals/cycling shoes world and I couldn't ask for a better shoe to start off with. I am a size 12 in virtually every shoe available, so I ordered the 47's and they fit perfectly. Installation of my cleats took 3 minutes thanks to the easy to follow instructions that came with the shoe, and youtube videos. After riding over 100 miles my first week they are still comfortable and I can't wait to put many more miles on these bad boys. The best part about this purchase is definitely the price and the prime eligible shipping method. Highly highly recommend these shoes.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  It fits!!, February 28, 2012
By BuyStuff A. (Maryland)
I measure a true size 14 using a Brannock foot scale and size 50 is right on. I actually ordered a 51 first, reading another review on another site, but it was clearly too big. Re-order/Return was easy with the vendor at the time I ordered these, Brands Cycle and Fitness, and delivery was fast. Up in this size range, fit seems accurate. I have a narrow foot, there's some room and a good toe box - the adjustments make it as snug as I want it. They breathe well, and are warm enough for me in 40F weather. We'll see how they do in the summer. Cleat is recessed enough to walk indoors without concern. The insole isn't much to write home about, but this shoe can easily take something more substantial. These are my first bike shoes, so my observations are limited, but anyone looking for a respectable spd shoe, especially in larger sizes, won't be disappointed. Break-in was probably about a week of 12mile rides.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  100% Satisfied, May 18, 2012
By jeepmac
My only regret is that I did not purchase clip less pedals 5 years ago! These are my first bike shoes and I could not be happier. I wear at 13M in sneakers, Sperry's, Sandals - I bought the 49 and they fit perfectly. The shoes are very comfortable to walk in as well. I would highly recommend these shoes.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  1st clipless shoe, May 15, 2012

I'd heard mountain bikers tell of the power increase achieved with clipless shoes, but I was amazed. These are easy on the wallet, come in every size, and are perfect for the beginner...

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Shimano Bike Shoes, May 14, 2012

These shoes are so comfortable, it's like having house shoes on; yet they work so well for the purpose that they were bought for.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good shoe, especially for the money, May 3, 2012
By Raider
The shoe runs true to size. I'm a 10 1/2 US and the Euro 45 fits me well. The upper and strap material is kind of low rent--rubbery and thick, but the shoe breathes well enough, the velcro straps are appropriately placed for snugging up the shoe and the ratchet mechanism is positive and easy to tighten and release. The sole is stiff enough to afford good power transfer but the shoes are fairly easy to walk in; the thick lugs on the sole aid there. I looked at and tried on several other shoes in this price range that were not nearly as satisfactory. I was not able to find anything at anywhere near the price that compared favorably. I've only put in a few rides with these so I can't comment yet on durability.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I love these shoes, April 19, 2012
By SLove
Just bought a new bike and bought these to get the full potential out of it. They are great. I bought size 45 wide and I wear a size 10.5 in Nikes and have wide feet. They fit perfectly, breathe well, and are extremely effective at not soaking up water. I had to cross a swampy area and stepped in wet mudd a few times and after 10 minutes of biking they were dry again. Love them and will purchase another pair if these ever wear out, which I don't see happening for at least a year or two. Highly recommend, my brother has a pair as well and he loves them.
