Zero Spills with Twice the Chill, March 3, 2011
By Old Hippie (St. Louis, MO.)
|
|
Picked up one from my local bike shop for one penny more ($14.00 + tax). Big deal. The Camelbak bottle is soooo much better than a Polar Insulated Water Bottle. How can a water bottle be open & not spill or leak when turned upside down? I'm still trying to figure this one out. According to the Camelbak website, "...our innovative Jet Valve(TM) ensures you're drinking the water, not wearing it."
What this new valve means in practical terms is, no more "two handed operation" to open or close the top; no more pulling the top open with your teeth as you pedal along & then slapping it against your side to close it. This new bottle from Camelbak is soooo much better than an Insulated Polar Water Bottle.
Yes, it will tightly seal all the way with a twist of the top. But for normal conditions, just keep it open. Cool water will NOT come out until you gently sqeeze on it. And that's another thing the Polar Bottle will not do. With the Polar Bottle, you'll need more than a "gentle squeeze".

Camelbak Podium Big Chill 25 oz Bottle, Clear/Imola Blue, April 29, 2011
By SCRIPTO
|
|
The Camelbak Podium Big Chill 25 oz. water bottle is a very nice addition to my road bike. It's too tall for my Specialized Mountain Bike but fits well under my Giant's Defy-2 cross member. It's five more oz. than the standard water bottle. And it's the maximum height allowable in an upright water bottle cage to easily pull it out while pedaling. Nice colors, insulated and has "easy water access" via their patented water release mechanism. There's no need to re-cap the top, it simply shuts off when you release from drinking! Camelbak puts out good quality products and this is no different.

The pinnacle of water bottle technology?, May 22, 2011
By Aaron
|
|
The Podium Chill bottles changed my life. Okay, so maybe that's a little much.
First off, the basic Podium design is almost flawless. Probably the closest thing to the "perfect" bike bottle. The original Podium Chills are a perfectly-sized insulated bottle that fits snugly and comfortably into the hand. A LOT of water can be delivered quickly with very little squeezing, due to the easily squeezed polyethylene and nozzle design. The chewy silicone lid nozzle has a lockout feature. The water TASTES better coming from the TruTaste polyethylene. No more of that plastic-y water taste, and no more BPA in your bloodstream. The insulation really does keep the water colder much longer, especially if there is ice in the water. Really, once you eliminate leaks (which Camelbak did) there's not much you can do to improve it, except maybe make it bigger. 20 oz goes fast for someone like me. I drink a lot of water.
The Big Chill got me excited because I was able to now hold quite a bit more water: 25 oz instead of 20! Doesn't sound like much, but with two of these on the bike, you have a lot more water to sip.
Main complaint with the Big Chill is that it's a little too hard to squeeze. Either they made it out of thicker plastic or they changed the grip design, I don't know. I feel like to get the same amount of water compared to a smaller Podium Chill I have to squeeze quite a bit harder. Just doesn't feel as good as the smaller Chills. No big deal, I have strong-ish hands, but someone with small hands will likely have a bit of a problem with it.
These bottles are easily marred by painted bottle cages. I suggest using composite or plastic cages with these to avoid leaving paint abrasion marks, which happened on mine.
I actually damaged my lid by scraping it on a wall, causing it to crack and leak water. Camelbak generously provided a new lid free of charge, without any fuss. Awesome.
Also, these bottles do take up a bit more real estate in the bike frame triangle. If you ride a size small or extra small frame you may not be able to fit this bottle into your cages, or it will be difficult to maneuver them out of the cages. Larger frames have no problem, obviously.
This bottle is a great bottle for cyclists, and people in general. I recommend it to every one of my friends. I just wish it came in a Podium Ice version, which would provide more insulation

Love the bottle, hate the rattle, August 18, 2011
By Midwesterner
|
|
Like almost everyone else, I find the Big Chill so much easier to use than the equivalent Polar bottle. The problem is that with my pretty red Blackburn Carbon CF bottle cages (that match the bike's graphics), the bottles rattle like mad on rough roads. You'd think my fancy new Defy Advanced was falling apart the noise is so great. When I revert to the Polar bottles the noise ceases. Either the cages or the bottles have to go. Otherwise, the Camelbak bottles are so much easier to actually drink from and the extra water is a bonus.

Leaky Lid, January 10, 2012
By Dave L
|

I really wanted to like the bottle but there was one major problem:
The seal didn't keep water from leaking. The seal between the cap and the bottle wasn't strong and water leaked whenever I used this. Very annoying and I returned the bottle.

Just what I needed!, August 18, 2011
By H. Hampton (Clayton, NC)
|
|
I was looking for a replacement for some old insulated water bottles that tended to leak, and were looking a bit raggedy. Trying to drink more water at work and kick the diet soda habit was actually easier than I though, thus enabling a purchase of a decent water bottle!
Pros: The mouth piece it great, locks out drips even if you don't use the locking mechanism on top. Be careful though, it will squirt pretty quickly if you squeeze it!
Sturdy design, and the right size for my backpack. Great grip.
Cons: Unless there's some ice in it, doesn't keep "cold out of a fountain" water cold very long. At least for me, that is; for an insulated bottle, it seems to lose coolness more quickly than I'd like. But still, keeps it colder longer than a standard bottle of course. This was the only reason I gave it 4 rather than 5 stars.
A little smaller than I'd like, but that was expected, and not a defect of the product.
Very nice bottle, and I've used it very extensively, every day.

Maybe just mine...but nozzle sprays, not streams, January 11, 2012
By Adam G. (NYC)
|
|
Camelbak and biking should be a natural fit for hydration. Maybe it's just my bottle, but after 1 or 2 uses, the water is dispensed not in a stream that allows rapid drinking, but in a spray as if the nozzle was torn, clogged or otherwise damaged (which it was/is not). Have looked for foreign objects in nozzle, but it's clean. However, the water does stay cold. I may try another to see if mine is an anomaly

Significant difference in hydration temperature, July 10, 2011
By D. Brown (Clermont, FL)
|
|
I bought this item for $14 from my LBS and was doubtful of it's claims, but it does work. I can go on a 20 mile ride in 90 degree weather and the beverage is still cool, not cold, but much better than having 90+ degree hydration liquid. The spout is fantastic. Does not leak and the bottle is easy to squeeze. The bottle has a large opening for putting ice in and for normal cleanings. Forget the small cheap bottles. This 25oz is great. Just need to get another and I will be set for a long 40-50 mile ride without having to stop for refills often.

Best thing since sliced bread, March 11, 2011
By Raz (Texas, USA)
|
|
This is an excellent product that works exactly as advertised. It will keep cold water cold for at least one hour (no ice in the bottle) and the ease of use is an added benefit. Just tilt, squeeze and the water flows perfectly. Can't comment on durability since I am only using the bottle for over a month (twice a day, every day). Very good buy and I and an enjoyable purchasing experience.

I really wanted to like this bottle, but I don't like what happens to the taste of water in it. I plan to give up using water, maybe iced tea? Whatever, good clean filtered water tastes like cra* in this bottle.

Awesome water bottle but almost a little bit long for smaller frames, May 24, 2012
By Hapsatu
|
|
I have a rather small bike (47cm Tommaso frame) which has made it difficult to find a good water bottle that fits in the bottle cage. I didn't want to sacrifice volume since my husband and I tend to go on really long bike rides into the country-side. This bottle lives up to its reputation for keeping things as cold as ice - my husband was certainly jealous that not only did I have cold water, but that it didn't spurt all over me when I drank from the bottle. On top of that it is very pretty to look at - the clear-carbon goes wonderfully with my black and white bike.
The ONLY shortcoming was that it just barely fit into the cage below the cross bar - there is maybe half an inch of space left. This means that it really isn't an option to remove the water bottle while riding, since it has to be on an angle to maneuver it in and out of the bottle cage. That being said, I'm more than happy to wait until we pull over (we're not THAT intense) to grab a sip.
Overall this is an amazing waterbottle, but just be aware that it may be tight if you have a smaller bike. From the bottom to the cap it is just under 28 inches, so you may want to measure, just to be safe.

Can be leaky and moldy, April 9, 2012
By edlose (Texas)
|
|
I got this a few months ago. It works pretty well except for the fact that you have to tighten the lid ridiculously tightly to prevent the water from leaking between the bottle and the lid when you squeeze the bottle to get a drink. Also, where the mouthpiece is, the inside gets all moldy, black, and nasty because small amounts of water just decide to stay in there. There's no real way to drain it, and it's extremely difficult to clean the inside of it since the opening is so small (I clean my bottle every or every other day, mind you, so it's not like I let unclean water just stay there for days).

Great Design, Simple, No Leaks or Spills!, October 25, 2011
By T. A. Dinh (San Jose, CA)
|
|
I did a lot of research before buying this bottle, looked at both pros and cons and decided to take the dive on two. My girlfriend and I needed one because we were sick of using water bottles.
Best purchase ever! I don't go biking with this but I use this everyday going from and to school/work. I love how it's easy to open and close the tip the drink. Plus if you do forget to close the tip, it doesn't really leak if you drop the bottle, thats a big plus! But besides that I love how it's so easy to drink out of it without having to remove a cap and such.
Regarding keeping it cool, it does a well just keeping the water cold. I don't think it makes it ice cold like the advertisement said but it's decently cool. Overall it does a well job and it's worth the price.
I've owned it for almost a month now and haven't run into any of the problems that other people have said. I'm very happy with my purchase and hope you guys have no hesitation of buying one for yourself too!

I had been looking for a insulated bottle and used this one at my friends and bought one the next day. keeps your drink cold, you can drink from it and never have to worry about a cap. just pick it up and drink! I would give this six stars also because of how durable it is but it only goes up to five. get one and ride!
PS. if you have a full suspension bike shot for the shorter one :)

One of the best, October 11, 2011
By Tony L (USA)

Here are some things to know about the Podium Big Chill:
-The nozzle is amazing! It does not leak or even dribble!
-You can adjust the nozzle for higher or lower flow. I use it on the highest flow and I'm able to easily squirt water into my mouth one handed.
-The bottle fits in to my "Planet Bike 6.2 mm Welded Aluminum Bicycle Water Bottle Cage" perfectly.
-The bottle keeps ice water cold for a long time! I took it fishing and left it setting in the sun for hours (on a 90+ degree day) and although the ice melted the water was still quite cold. No other bottle that I have owned would have done near as well.

Product does as advertised. I found that my drinks stayed longer than my other bottle (specialized purist). My favorite feature about this bottle is that it holds quite a lot of volume. Only complaint is that i can't drink from it while riding without taking both hands off the bike. Not a big deal.

This was my first Camelbak product and I have to say for road biking they are the best. I put cubed ice in the bottle with a little bit of water and after riding 3 hours during the summer, the ice is only half melted and I love my ice cold water after a ride.

Cool bottle, September 15, 2011

So I bought one of these for a trip to Disneyland and had it with me most of the time. It kept cool for a very long time which was really nice. I kept setting it down and forgetting it almost until I finally did lose it someplace. I liked it so much I bought another one. Actually used it when riding my bike and it fit in the bottle holder really great. I will keep using this bottle and if I ever lose this one I will buy another lol.

Camelbak Podium Big Chill 25 oz Bottle - Red, September 7, 2011
By Sara

|
Ordered this water bottle after owning nothing but stainless steel water bottles and constantly dropping and denting them so they don't even stand straight anymore. This was a great investment. The bottle is light, easy to drink from, and does not spill! Probably not a good choice if you are looking to keep water ice cold for several hours, but it keeps it cool enough after sitting out at room tempeature for 2-3 hours. I'm not a fan of ice cold water anyway so it works for me. I don't use it for biking or anything but it works well with my day-to-day activities. Overall, happy with the product, quality, and price.

Best for Biking, September 7, 2011
By PrincessMia

For being so lightweight, this product really does keep your beverage cold. I take my biking for several hours at a time and it keeps the water cold until I run out. Not having to manually open and shut the cap is great and keeps the bottle more sanitary. It has survived many on and off road bike trips. This product also fits perfectly in most of the water bottle cages for bikes as well.

Big chiller, August 21, 2011
By Diggler (CA, USA)

|
Bought this for my mountain bike, fits perfectly in the cage while keeping my water very cold. I really am stoked about not having to open and close a bottle each time I need water, I just point and shoot, and boom, I got water in one step. Opening and closing is a pain when when you are off road or traveling fast down a steep path, cant take hands off the bars. I never leave without my polar chill. =)

One of the best bottles I have used in 15 yrs of cycling, August 4, 2011
By twinkleimages

|
Just received my bottles yesterday and went for a 32 mile ride this morning. We have been under a heat advisory the past 2 day and as this is my normal route my old bottle would have ice in them for about 30 minutes if that.... So this morning I rode my 1 hour and 50 minutes with cold water for the entire time!!! This bottle is big so it will not fit all frames so measure before you order, but if this fits then I think this is the best bottle i have owned. I love the valve too. Easy to squeeze and the water flows very freely.

Best bottle of it's type on the market, August 3, 2011
By Ann (Mid Atlantic, USA)
|
|
I use nozzle type water bottles for bicycling and the gym, and this is by far my favorite. I've got numerous bottles including the freebies you get with bike event registration, the Polar, the Brita, & both sizes of this bottle. The valve on this bottle is excellent. It doesn't leak when tipped over but is easy to drink from. The shape of the bottle easy easier to grip than purely cynlindrical bottles, the screw cap doesn't leak and is easy to screw on without cross threading. You even get some insulation. The insulation is about the same as with the Polar bottles, but in an otherwise much better bottle. I find that ice water remains cold for a couple hours at room temperature or about an hour on a hot summer day. It does not insulate as well as a true thermos, but thermos bottles are less convenient for biking or gym use. Both sizes are good bottles, but suitable for different situations. I like the 21 oz bottle for indoors and the 25 oz bottle for bicycling.

Podium Chill is even better in the 25 oz size, July 4, 2011
By Teri Curry
|
|
Finally CamelBak has addressed the only drawback in the Podium Chill bottles, they needed to hold more fluid for long rides. The Big Chill is great! I've used the Polar insulated bottles in the past but I only use the CamelBak Podium Chill bottles now. They are very easy to drink from and do a fantastic job keeping your drink chilled. Cycling in the hot Florida summer these bottles are a must if you don't want to drink warm or worse fluids on your ride. I much prefer the CamelBak Podium tops to the Polar tops. No more pulling open the valve with my teeth and NO SPILLING with the valve open and the bottle full. I recommend these bottles to anyone who wants to keep their drink cold. My son even carries a 21 oz size to school each day so his water stays cold.

Alien Technology!, June 1, 2011
By Raymond F. Kozlowski
|
|
I never thought it would be worth it to spend over 10 dollars on a water bottle, but it makes all the difference. The surprisingly thin layer of insulation keeps ice cubes from melting quickly on even the hottest of days. and the nozzle, of my the nozzle. thats where the alien technology comes in. i dont know how it works, but it wont leak even when you hold it upside down! you can either squeeze the bottle to shoot water into your mouth(or at your friends), or suck on the nozzle and it acts like the perfect straw. really a great water bottle and totally worth the money. o and it fits in a standard water bottle cage on my road bike perfectly. i am probably going to pick up another for my second water bottle cage, so i can have 50 oz of chilled water for my long bike rides.

I'm done. The Big Chill is it for me!, May 25, 2011
By Rambo 2000 (Atlanta, Ga)
|
|
Bought a new road bike. The shop threw in (2) bottles. They were cheap, not insulated, more advertising for the shop than anythihng else. However, they were free so no complaints. Then I tried the Polar Insulated Water Bottle. It was ok. Provided some insulation. I actually filled them about 1/3 rd full and layed them flat in my freezer. I got cold water my entire rider ( 1 - 2 hours). Problem was, everytime I reached for one when I was riding hard, it took a lot of pressure to get the water flowing, and the water flow wasn't great. So, I tried the CamelBack bottle. I used the same process to fill with 1/3rd water and freeze. Keeps the water cold for the entire ride. The difference is the water flow. It is night and day better than the Polar bottle. The CamelBak bottle is now the only thing I'll use. Light pressure, great water flow, etc. No more hunting for a bottle, the Big Chill is it.

Great Water Bottle, February 3, 2012
By R. Butler (Pittsburgh, PA)
|
|
I just bought the Podium Big Chill water bottle from CamelBak and I have to say I love how cold this bottle keeps my water on hot days! I used to use a standard plastic water bottle and my water used to get lukewarm within a half hour, but with the Podium water bottle it takes 3 or more hours for the water to warm up! The twist-cap is also great because I can close it up when I'm going place to place so it won't spill (which is another problem I had with squeeze water bottles). Also, the bite valve is quality just like all other CamelBak products.
The only downside to the bottle is that it is not recommended for the dishwasher and cannot be cleaned with hot water. It's just a nuisance if I wanted to keep Gatorade in the bottle I just can't put it in the dishwasher. But, it's just a minor inconvenience compared to the great performance of the Podium water bottle.
I would definitely recommend the CamelBak Podium Big Chill water bottle because it won't spill or leak and it keeps the drinks ice cold.

Best water bottle I have ever used., February 2, 2012
By Ian Mackie
|
|
Simply put this is the best waterbottle I have ever owned or even used. While it may not be as sturdy as a Nalgene Tritan 1-Quart Wide Mouth BPA-Free Water Bottle or as cool as a 32 oz. Gatorade 'G' Sports Bottle with Squeeze Top it out preforms both.
I have no complaints about this water bottle. It is exactly as advertised however when I bought it I was uncertain about a few things and did not know a major feature of this water bottle.
Firstly, the "Jet Valve" system is simple to engage, it only requires you to twist the top 90 degrees. When engaged water is blocked from leaving the water bottle however I rarely have it in the locked position. This water bottle's top is along the same idea as the 32 oz. Gatorade 'G' Sports Bottle with Squeeze Top's top, even in the open position if you turn the bottle upside down nothing will leak out.
Secondly, this bottle's insulation is very good for two reasons. The obvious first reason is that it insulates very well. In a room temperature room ice will remain ice for hours. The second is that because of this insulation there is no condensation at all. The outside of the water bottle is never wet. There is never a ring of water at the base. This allows me to have cold water wherever I want and not worry about damaging the surface it is on.
I have used this water bottle for 3 months now without complaints, if you have any questions I will try to address them in the comments.

I bought this item for me to take to work so I would have water during my shift. since I am a dispatcher and am stuck in one place all day I wanted to be able to bring water and it stay cold during the day. During my search for one I came across this product and decided it had good reviews so I would give it a try. I am so pleased with it I will probably buy another one. the water stays cold for an extended period of time even with out ice but you add ice it will stay cold for my entire 10 hour shift without needing to add more ice. granted it is indoors and doesnt get heat like it would outside but im guessing take half the time away outside still looking at close to 5 hours im very pleased with the product.

The best water bottle out there., December 28, 2011
By Casual Reviewer (Albuquerque, NM United States)
|
|
For those wondering why this is such a great water bottle, it all has to do with the no spill nozzle.
The nozzle has a locked and unlocked position. Twist it to the locked position and no water can come out of the nozzle at all. Twist it to the unlocked position and water can come out, but (and this is what makes this the best water bottle out there) only if you squeeze the bottle or suck on the nozzle. In other words, you can drop it, knock it over, turn it upside down, and no water will come out. Remember that this is in the UNLOCKED position.
This feature makes it ideal for pretty much any situation. Whether you just want to use it sitting at your desk at work, or in a more physical environment such as the gym or while biking or any other activity, it's great because it never spills!
Also, this bottle does not "sweat" (collect condensation).
The insulation keeps fluids cold a little longer than non insulated bottles, but not much longer. So if that feature is very important to you, you will probably find something better than this bottle. For me, this is a non-issue.

Good gym bottle, December 4, 2011
By Brad
|
|
There are so many things to like about this bottle. The way it's designed is that you don't have to pull open the spout with your teeth like a normal sports bottle. It's double walled which means that it won't sweat on you, which is really nice if you're lifting weights or the likes. The bottle also looks banging good. One of my favorite things about it is the unique way that it's designed to be held, those raised slanted parts allow it to sit really well in your hand, unlike any other bottle I've ever used.
Ice doesn't last forever, maybe a few hours (in not warm temperatures) so don't let the double walled construction fool you it's mainly just so the bottle doesn't sweat. However it's plenty long for a good work out, which is what I use it for.
For the price, there isn't really a reason you wouldn't want to get this.

I love the valves on these, November 7, 2011
By Mr Wizard
|
|
I love how the valves work on these. They stay really well sealed and don't drip when on its side somewhere you don't want them to drip on. And a huge plus is the easy to use swivel on/off in addition to the "bite valve". After using one for a while I purchased another two. I think they work really well and are reasonably priced.

excellent design, October 29, 2011

These are great bottles. We have 6 of them of both the 25oz and 21oz. The bottle top is really well thought out and easy to use. You get delivery of a good amount of fluid without too much squeezing effort, which is great when you are at the end of a long ride and getting tired. I'll fill my bottle all the way up with ice and then fill with water. The water will stay cold for about 1.5-2hours in 75F weather.

Great water bottle, keeps things cold, September 18, 2011
By Brian Schettler (Stillwater, OK United States)
|
|
This is a great water bottle and the nozzle is great for getting a drink while riding. Insulation helps keep your drink cold for a decent amount of time, although it is not a thermos. The only problem I have is that somehow a small amount of water can get trapped between the cap and the threads of the bottle when refilling, then leaks out the side if rotated the right way. It's a small annoyance that I haven't had with other bottles, but it is still great.

Sturdy and big. TIght fit in seat tube mount, September 15, 2011
By P. Loomis (Utah, USA)
|
|
This is a big bottle. It's great for riding here in our desert climate because there's not always a place to stop for a refill. I like to fill it about halfway the night before a ride, then keep it in the freezer overnight (at a slight angle so the water doesn't freeze to the lid). When I fill the bottle in the morning I've got a good, long-lasting base of ice in the bottle with it. When I switch out to my secondary bottle, this one gets moved to the seat tube bottle cage, where it's a tight fit below the top tube.

Excellent Water Bottle, August 11, 2011
By Hailey
|
|
In the past I have always had trouble finding a water bottle that doesn't spill, but was still easy to drink from. I was using Nalgene bottles for years, but there was always water trapped in between the screw-on top and the bottle, which I would always manage to spill on myself when drinking.
This water bottle is great! It hasn't spilled once while I've owned it (on me or in my tennis bag). I would say it keeps ice frozen in the bottle for 3x as long when you're in average-to-warm heat. When it's really hot and the bottle is in the sun it keeps ice frozen an average amount of time... which is to be expected.

Loved it so much I got a second one. It keeps water cold, doesn't leak and is easy to use. It doesn't even really get condensation on the outside of the bottle so its safe to toss in a bag with papers or clothes as long as you turn it to locked.

Perfect Size, Easy To Use, Light, No Leaks, No Sweat!, December 3, 2011
By G. Torres (USA)
|
|
This bottle turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. It's a 25 oz bottle, which is perfect for me as the others are too small. It's super easy to use: just twist the top open, pour in the water through the wide opening (vs. the narrow opening of other bottles), make sure the valve is closed so the liquid doesn't spill, and you're done. The valve on top lets you control how much water comes out when you squeeze the bottle to drink. You can open it all the way or just a little bit. Unlike a Thermos I had, this one doesn't sweat. It also isn't anywhere as heavy as a stainless steel bottle; it's much lighter. Those claiming leaks should make sure they're closing the valve all the way, until it snaps into place. I've had this bottle inside my leather bag, upside down without me even noticing, and not a single drop has leaked out. I couldn't believe it! I'm neurotic and have high standards, so I'm not easy to please. And I'm very pleased with this purchase.

I absolutely love the "squishability" of this bottle; perfect for a quick refresher during a short break or a huge "chug" after the ride. The valve is great and easy to use--twist it a little if you like just getting a little water with each sqeeze, or twist it to "open" for a mouthful and more! There's nothing better than when the conversation among riding buddies turns to water bottle envy--it takes some attention off my poor performance, lol.

Fantasic Camelbak drink bottle from Amazon, February 26, 2012
By Pants Melter

The Camelbak Podium Big Chill is a fantastic drink bottle. It will keep your drinks cold for a long time and is really easy to drink from. I've had many 'non spill' drink bottles in the past & it was really hard to get a decent amount of liquid out quick. Not with this. I also like that it doesn't change the taste of whatever is in it & it's made from safe materials. No BPA

Does what I want it to do, except..., May 27, 2012
By PhilH (Texas, USA)
|
|
... for keeping the liquids cold for more than an hour. I ride in the Texas heat and freeze these bottles almost full of water, leaving about 1/2" from the top for expansion. This works out well for longer rides when you want the last bottle to still be cold. Plastic is thicker than most other bottles that I've used, and the valve is well designed and won't leak out, even if opened and caged on the down tube. I would give this product five stars if the insulation is more effective.

Camlbak Podium Big Chill 25 oz Bottle, May 25, 2012
By Acadia
|
|
Purchased this for my son who was looking for a bottle that would keep his product cold while working outside. I spent a lot of time online looking for such item, read many reviews and went to the Camelbak site. Thought the Camelbak Podium Big Chill would be what I was looking for, boy I was wrong! My son prepared his bottle the night before and left it in the frig. The next day he added some ice and went on his way. After about 4 hours, the ice had melted and the beverage was warm. My son is going to use the bottle because he likes the size and it doesn't leak. Just have to find something else that will keep his beverage cold.

Cold water up to 40 miles into the ride with 89 degree temp in Florida, May 21, 2012
By MJ
|
|
I bough 2 of the big 25 ounce bottles.
I wish I can give these more than 5 stars, why? because of the ease of use of the top valve, big size great for long rides, and my water stayed cold up to 40 miles on a 60 mile ride in a very warm 89 degree temp in Florida.
I also have two of the Polar insulated and they don't even come close to these when it comes to preserving the water temp. I am really impressed with the Camelbaks.
These bottles worth every penny, and with the great fast shipping from Amazon, you can't go wrong.
By the way the Polar insulated kept the water cold for up to 25 miles yesterday in 87 degree temp.
I usually average about 18 mph on my long rides, that will give you an idea of time bottle kept cold water.

Great Bottle, May 20, 2012
By Life Long Skeptic ("Real America")
|
|
This is a great water bottle.
Pros The jet valve is awesome (after you get use to it). Water tastes great from this bottle. You can drink without putting your lips to the valve which is great for sharing. The bottle has minimal sweating due to the double wall construction. It's reasonably easy to get ice into the bottle (see cons) and fill it from a fridge water dispenser.
Cons The insulation doesn't work very well in keeping your drink cold. It might be slightly better then non-insulated bottles. The mouth of the bottle is slightly too narrow to get ice directly from my fridge dispenser without making a bit of a mess. The bottle is opaque so you can't see how much water you've got left.
Conclusion I like this bottle a lot and I will use it frequently. Don't expect the insulation to keep your drink cold much longer then any other bottle but it will stay mostly condensation free. I will buy another podium but it just might be the non-insulated one.

Biking or working out, you'd not be too concerned about a few leaks. But I've used this water bottle at work a couple days also, and I get a nice shower quite often when I go to take a drink and water runs down my shirt. Since the cover is threaded hard plastic on hard plastic, I don't know of any way to get it on better.

Big Chill, Big Value, May 15, 2012
By HemiDak
|
|
This bottle keeps fluids much cooler over standard bottles for about the same price. With the large size and multiple premium features, it's hard to compare other bottles within this price range.
There are other bottles (Camelbak brand even) that will keep fluids cooler longer, but for more money and/or less capacity. Fill this bottle with the right amount of ice and water and/or freezing combination for your use, and the Big Chill will definitely be one of the best water bottles you will ever use.
I have daily (non-exercise) water bottles and other misc. bottles I frequently use. I bought my first Camelbak Big Chill for biking two weeks ago, and am purchasing at least one more for my daily bike use. I wish I came across this bottle sooner!

Tough, May 14, 2012
By Rodney Myers

I dropped this bottle while trying to put it back into the holder. Then I ran over it with my bike while moving well. It was not my finest moment. No damage whatsoever to the water bottle. It still looks new, and does not leak. I actually have 2 of these bottles, and I do not know which one I ran over.
The insulation is effective, but this is far from a thermos. I fill mine about a third to half of the way with ice, then pour in water. The water is still somewhat cool after a 2 hour ride at 70 degrees, though the ice is melted.

Excellent Water Bottle - Check Out the Spout, May 13, 2012

Having used this for about 2 months, I think this thing rocks. Yeah, it's only a water bottle, you say... For me, these 2 items clinch it:

2. The insulation - works great - water stays cold for a long time

It's a water bottle, it's insulated so your water stays cooler, and it's no drip nipple works perfectly. Much better than those cheaper pull top bottles. So ignore all marketing...Is the size right?...Is it insulated. Yes....but consider this: I have the bottle mounted with a topeak bottle cage on the diagonal part of an 18 inch mountain bike frame...and it is a little of a tight squeeze.
Other than that...what can I say....it is an insulated water bottle. The insulation seems to work well. Kept my icewater....well iced.

The CamelBack Big Chill really does keep the water colder than my similar looking Polar bottle, usually after an hour in the NM sun most water bottles crap out but this really does keep the water cold, and the ice cubes last longer too,,its amazing !. It is the same exact size as my 24 oz.Polar bottle?? but I guess I'll take their word that it holds 25 oz. I like the swivel open and close top too,the best bike water bottle I have ever had !!

This is a really great bottle. The large size still fits in my new Topeak Modula Waterbottle Cage 2 and the bottle keeps my water nice and cool for longer than a regular bottle. The on/off dial is easy to use and when fully open allows a serious gush of water with a squeeze of the bottle. It added no taste to the water for me after an initial wash with soap and water. Also, you can't beat the guarantee from Camelbak.

The jet valve works brilliantly - no spills. There's no taste from the bottle plastic either so the BPA-free does what it says. Insulation keeps water cold for much longer than my old water bottles. Couldn't fault the Podium Big Chill water bottle in any department. Worth the few extra dollars.

Everything it claims to be, April 20, 2012
By Slamastack (Spring, TX USA)
|
|
I bought this bottle to use while riding my bike and I've been really pleased with it so far. The insulation is just enough to keep my drink cold for the duration of my ride (a little over an hour) in 90+ degree weather and the jet valve makes it super easy to drink while riding. Just grab it, put it near my mouth, and squeeze. No leaking, no caps to unscrew. The bottle does feel comically large in my standard sized bottle cage, but so far it hasn't come close to slipping out so I guess it's fine.
I also appreciate the fact that the bottle's mouth is big enough to accommodate standard ice cubes. I've had bottles before that were so narrow I had to just resort to filling them 1/3 of the way with water the night before and then lay it on its side in the freezer overnight. It's nice to not have to do that with this one.

Very happy with this bottle , but kind of big might not fit in your small size mountain bike also if you have small hand you may find it's hard to grab . Ordered two one for myself one for my wife, she is petite she complain about it size because of her small hands, but she love the bottle anyway. It will keep your water cool a little longer than regular bottle but not much longer, unless you put 50/50 water and ice

Exactly what I needed, March 28, 2012
By Noel (SF Bay Area, CA)
|
|
I've been using this bottle for a few days now and I have to say that I'm satisfied with my purchase. I got a free bottle of the "Better Insulated" model with the bite valve from my company that was OK but the valve broke after I dropped it. I liked that it kept the water cool but I didn't like the bite valve.
So I take this bottle to the gym and to work. I tend to lock the top even though it's not really needed because water won't spill thanks to the Jet Valve. The only thing I don't like is that the jet valve makes noise whenever you sip water. Needless to say, I won't be taking this to a meeting any time soon. I'm not deducting a star because of this because at the gym or other environment it doesn't matter if it makes noise.
I'm giving it -1 star for the insulation and taste. I know I've only been using it for a few days and the taste will most likely go away but it has a funny after taste right now. Make sure to wash the bite valve when you first get it. Mine had some residue on it that was peeling off. I feel like the insulation could have been better if the bottle was thicker. It works best when you fill the bottle half way with ice. It keeps the water cooler than if you put the bottle in the fridge for a few hours.
Overall I'm really pleased with the quality of this bottle and would recommend it to another person.

Back again for a great product!!!!, March 23, 2012
By Saari
|
|
I bought one of these bottles about a month ago. When it arrived, I immediately enlisted its service on this used bike I am trying to get back up to workability. The stream of water that the bottle produces is excellent and I know will come in handy on the soon to come warm days here in the Midwest, it certainly did during the first bike ride when I used it after its arrival on my doorstep. The amount of liquid it can hold is quite considerable. Also, opening and closing the valve at the stem has been designed for ease of access: very simple functioning, no more fighting and pinching my fingers (having to use my teeth at risk of chipping them) like I had to with bottles from days of old (perhaps earlier generation water bottles). I liked the first bottle so much that I purchased a 2nd one this week to accommodate for the second water bottle rack that exists on my bike.
