5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Taillight!, October 15, 2010
By A casual stroll through the lu.. (Prague)
I had three Tail Lights on my Bike (NiteRider CherryBomb, Planet Bike Superflash and the Blackburn Mars 3.0). I needed to upgrade so I got the Portland Design Works Danger Zone Tail Light to replace the Planet Bike Superflash as the main center seatpost Taillight.

On night rides and night bike commutes, the Danger Zone tail light is a nice choice for being seen. This is a bright light in a small package, and is helpful for making sure you get distinguished as a Bike from behind at night. It is the same size as the NiteRider CherryBomb, Planet Bike Superflash, and the Blackburn Mars 3.0 Taillights. Includes 2 cheap Chinese AAA batteries, and a seatpost and seatstay mount.

It is noticeably brighter than my Planet Bike Superflash and a bit more brighter than the NiteRider CherryBomb, which only has one 1/2 watt LED light. The CherryBomb is quite a bit brighter than the Planet Bike Superflash. The CherryBomb's beam pattern is wide, thanks to the collimator, so off-axis visibility is pretty helpful for a stand-alone taillight but to get it aimed level is so hard, the beam is often off-target, therefore I needed another bright tail light.

The Danger Zone has Two 1/2 watt LED's with three light settings.

Flashing mode #1 - Very slow Flash but very bright - (top LED light, bottom LED light, then both LED lights, etc). Good for dark residential streets or bike paths or locations comparatively free from heavy car traffic. TWICE the brightness of Flashing mode #2 but not as fast or "Super Flash" bright attention getting. I'd use with another bright tail light as it's Very slow.

Flashing mode #2 - Super crazy, Flash bright, attention getting for 1-2 seconds then Slow for .5 seconds then Super Flash, Slow, etc. (top LED, bottom LED, then both LEDs in a crazy Super flash pattern). Great for commutes at night in heavy traffic or for a stand-alone taillight.

Steady mode #3 - On bright steady-on.

The flashing modes are different, but Flashing mode #2 is the most attention getting. I also like Flashing mode #1 since it's TWICE the brightness. This light has a bit of side-spill and is still visible when looked at off-center. Like more or less all LED taillights, this one is highly directional and should be aimed level.

I mounted it on my seat post with the Planet Bike Superflash brand of holder. The mount is completely identical to the clip mount used by the Planet Bike Superflash. I couldn't see the bottom LED light due to my rear tire, so I mounted it to my left seat stay (the seat stays connect the top of the seat tube to the rear fork ends). I had to mount it upside down to fit and have more of an angle adjustment. Be sure to secure the Light in its mount with an audible "click". It works well there. I'm also to get a Portland Design Works Radbot 1000 1W LED Tail Light as the main center seatpost Taillight. It also has a rear reflector.

The Danger Zone light itself is a basic design (cheap Chinese plastic etc). My only criticism, and it's not that big of a deal, is that I don't like how to change the batteries. You have to "pry" it open (light lens from plastic). I can see it cracking after 30 times, it's also hard to pry open/put back.

NiteRider CherryBomb on my seat post top (turned horizontal to fit - Flashing mode).

Radbot 1000 on my seat post main center (On bright steady-on).

Danger Zone tail light on my left seat stay (Flashing mode #1 - Very slow Flash but very bright).

Planet Bike Superflash on my right seat stay (On bright steady-on).

I feel safer having 4 good Tail Lights.

Finally, I recommend using SANYO eneloop rechargeables for these lights and using an ANSI compliant reflective vest. A reflective vest is a necessary safety device for all bicyclists who hit the roads with rude cars.

The Danger Zone light really draws attention for night time city commuting. I'd recommend this light for anyone that rides on the road, bike paths, commutes, or in heavy traffic.

**UPDATE October 22, 2010:

I also got the Radbot 1000 Tail Light. I like the Danger Zone tail light better than the Radbot 1000 since it has 2 light lens (more visibility - top LED light, bottom LED light), has a "Flashing mode" and not a Pulse mode (Radbot 1000), and is a bit smaller. The Radbot 1000 is a bit brighter than the Danger Zone Tail Light by only 8 - 15%.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best tail light I've seen, January 28, 2011
By FBear
This light kicks ass, super bright and a great random flashing pattern. Drivers may confuse you with a cop that has pulled someone over. Expect wide berths from passing cars.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Light!, March 1, 2011
By Edgardo
Awesome light so far! I had the Super Flash for about a year, and its battery 'terminals' were no longer making great contact thus light emission was not very bright after a years use -- unlike when it was new. (Yes also tried different batteries.)

This Portland Design light appears well made, does use the same attachment point as the Super Flash, and it was easily swapped, I am happy going from Super Flash to Danger Zone.

On the left is this product, and on the right is the Planet Bike Superflash.

The Planet Bike Blinky Super Flash Tail Light has been the gold standard for many years. It had a single half watt LED and two additional less bright LEDs that flash using a flash-pop arrangement that keeps at least one lamp lit almost all the time so that drivers of cars can always see it. Off axis visibility was good, so that it didn't have to be aimed directly at the driver. It was waterproof and you could drop it repeatedly without breakage. I own several of them and have been very happy with them.

But they suffer from a few shortcomings. First, they have a short repeat sequence. Drunk and high-on-drugs drivers can get mesmerized by such a sequence and will run right into a light like this like a moth to a flame. So I've been using the superflash on the sides, not the back. Second, they are very bright up close, but from a distance, with lots of other distracting lights, they get lost in the crowd. A half watt isn't very bright when there are many other 12 volt sources of light. So in a big city, they are less effective.

Enter the Portland Design Works Danger Zone. It has two half watt LED that punch through the clutter of other lights in a city, and a longer repeat pattern making a drunk driver less likely to hit you with one of them. You can see from the video that it seems much brighter, though if you stop the video right at the end, both lights have a single half watt LED on at the same time and you can see that, at least at that moment, they are both identical. Otherwise, it seems well built, waterproof and off axis visibility is just as good, just like the superflash. Clip and mounting capabilities are almost identical. It's a little bigger than the superflash.

However, the brightness comes with some drawbacks. First, the battery life will go down. Second it's more expensive.

However, I think for a rear light, it's worth it. For a side light (I use one on each side for drivers exiting driveways and parking lots, and cross traffic), I'd stick with the superflash, due to cost and battery life issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  My best taillight so far, December 19, 2010
By Leverleg (Indianapolis)
This is a newer edition than the company's RADBOT 1000, which I previously bought. That model was my brightest of the AAA type, it uses an automobile LED. I also have other well regarded blinkys. The review title sums up my opinion. Versus the RADBOT, the Danger Zone is equally brilliant but usefully smaller, sleeker, and has a no-tool batt hatch. It slides easily over the taillight strap riveted onto my helmet. The 2 LEDs can have a "chasing" pattern which commands even more notice. My atom bomb taillight is the legendary DiNotte 200 lumen taillight and costs $160. But it has a pigtail to a separate batt pack so is fiddly to mount. For most use the Danger Zone comes surprising close. All the brightness you need at night. For bright daylight I think noticeability is just as important because of overtaking metal monsters who may have dirty windshields. I use the DiNotte in this circumstance where the ambient light competes but I also activate the Danger Zone for an extra, though less powerful signal.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great light!, June 24, 2011
By Nicole
I used this during the day mostly and it's highly visible. I just got back from a bike tour with about 14 people and everyone seemed really impressed at how visible this light was in the daylight and by the odd flashing pattern. I would highly recommend this tail light if you want to be seen during the day and/or night!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  This is the only rear-facing light you need. Compatible with bike racks, May 25, 2011
By BB
This light is amazingly bright and the three different patterns are just perfect. It's easily visible in broad daylight and impossible to miss at night.

It's not stated anywhere in the description or in any reviews, but you can indeed mount this onto a rear bike rack using the separately purchased mounting hardware. Portland Design Works Rack Bracket

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent tail light!, February 14, 2011
By K. W. Forsythe (Colorado, USA)
This is an excellent tail light. It's very bright, with very eyecatching pattern options. I don't see how anyone could miss seeing you with this light on the back of your bike. The most important part for me is that the mounting hardware is very sturdy and that the light mounts securely (which is not true of some other tail lights). It's everything you could want in a tail light.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great! Exactly what all the others said!!!, August 22, 2011
By JayZ (Ca, USA)
Some products are good. Others are great. This one is GREAT!!! I have owned a lot of bike lights and this one for sure holds the record for the best rear light. I use it day and night. It has been through bike crashes and jumps and bumps and everything. Between myself, father and brother..., we now have 3 and all are perfect. Proven over time!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  brightest tail light I've owned., July 12, 2011
By H Rehman (California.)
This PDW is one of the most decent tail light I've ever bought, I've replaced my "Planet bike Super flash" with this "PDW Danger zone" I'm extremely happy and satisfied, 2 of my cousins asked me to order the same light for them. If needed I will buy this again. My recommendation is buy this without any hesitation, you can't go wrong. (The only thing I was upset about was the delivery, it arrived couple days late) the seller took its time to ship it out, and I work in USPS I know how the processing works.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  More than just a bright tail light, April 11, 2011
By Terry Hutt (Running Springs, CA)
I do a lot of cycling - about 5000 miles a year. A lot of that is at night because I do a lot of very long rides that take more than 12 hours to complete. I may be a little paranoid, but I really don't want to get hit by a car so my tail light is a critical piece of equipment. Whenever I see a cyclist with a really great tail light I ask them who made it and where they got it. Last November I saw my first cyclist with this tail light and I was so impressed I had to get one. Up until now my best tail light has been an eclipse which I still use as a backup. I would rather have a Dinotte but they're way too expensive for me.

So what's good about this light? Well it's very bright and has two 0.5 Watt LEDs which is the same total brightness as some headlights and this is better than one 1 Watt LED because you can have more flash patterns which is very important. I have a theory that motorists pay more attention to a group of cyclists than to a single cyclist. At night, a motorist that sees complex flash patterns assumes that they are approaching a group. This light has complex flash patterns all on it's own - therefore I think it's a safer tail light. It's also easily visible at half a mile which gives motorists time to zone in and drive approriately.

The light takes 2 AAA batteries (I prefer AA but you can't have everything). Even with AAA batteries the run time is an acceptable 50 hours (depending on the flash pattern you chose). The light is a bit chunky but fortunately there are a number of mounting options including seat post, seat stays, and saddle bag. You should have no problems mounting even if you ride a small frame.

Turning the light on and off and selecting flash pattern is fairly easy with a pressure switch on the top of the light. I've had some feedback from cyclists behind me in the pack - they hate the flashing because it's so bright - no problem I say, just come around me and pull for a while :-)

So far this light has been a jewel...powerful, well-made, and not too tough on battery life. Upon receiving the light I got to thinking "I paid $30 for this little thing?", but then I powered it up and was amazed. This one's going to make many a trip with me...I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  PDW Danger Zone, July 6, 2011
By milehithumper
This is one of the brightest and most attention-getting flashers out there. VERY bright LEDs, a very attention-getting pseudo-random flash pattern, and easy to mount just about anywhere. The only disadvantage is that the super-bright LEDs are fairly directional, and much more visible to motorists coming from behind than approaching from the side. If you ride after dark you'll nalso eed a flasher or light up front to help warn cars turning onto your road from the side, but you'll never have a problem with cars seeing you from behind. From a long way off.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Wow!, May 16, 2011
By Sancti Spiritus (Russellville, Alabama USA)
Previous to this purchase, I used a Sigma Cuberider, and Sigma Cuberider II. on my road bicycle. The PDW Danger Zone is superlative to the Cuberiders. The Danger Zone is brighter, and, most importantly, has two distinct blinking patterns. There is also an option to simply leave the LED's on, and not blinking. The second blinking pattern is fantastic, and will surely compel the most foolish and ardent behind-the-wheel texter to pay attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Taillight!, February 2, 2012

**UPDATE December 22, 2011:

The Danger Zone tail light has failed. For the price I paid, I expected it to be more durable and last longer. I was right about the way to change the batteries. You have to "pry" it open (light lens from plastic). I knew it wouldn't hold up.

Also, my Portland Design Works Radbot 1000 1W LED Tail Light has also failed. For the price I paid, I expected it to be more durable and last longer.

I got the Cateye LD610 Taillight, Planet Bike Superflash Turbo Rear Light and NiteRider Cherry Bomb LED Tailight, 1 Watt Red LED as replacements.

I added the Blackburn Mars 4.0 Light on my front fork for side visibility, (On bright steady-on).

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Bright lights, big city..., November 18, 2011
By Jeff Tanner (San Jose, CA United States)
Thanks to all the previous reviewers of this tail light! After much research, I had it narrowed down to the Cherry Bomb or this Danger Zone tail light. With the recommendations by many folks here and some of the video's on youtube, I decided to go with the Danger Zone.
I've had it for months now, and it's been fantastic!
It's bright! Other folks have covered the different light modes here already. I'd say that I set it to the dazzle/multi-blink mode for most of my rides. I even use it on my day rides now just to make sure folks see me.
One nice feature of the light that I think is worth mentioning is the versatility of the clip mount options. If you want to mount it to your seat post, which is extremely easy, it's one screw and your done. Clip it on the mount and ride. (they even includes a few extra rubber shims/spacers)
If the seat post mount isn't the best option, or if you have panniers and bags... fret not! The clip allows you to hook it over your bags, or even your jersey. There are plenty of options.
So far for me, it's been durable, practical, lightweight, convenient, and energy efficient. I'm a rechargeable batteries person, and this light runs for dozens of long rides without me needing to charge up again, which is really nice.
Having nothing else prior to compare it to, I join the legions of others on Amazon who are happy with this light. (I've also had 2 friends purchase it as well after demoing mine on a few night rides!)

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good, quality, bright light., October 28, 2011
By Tomas Mendez
I didn't give the Danger Zone a FIVE because it's not necessarily brighter than, say the Cherry Bomb or Light Zone -- they're at parity. But it's a great light that I use every night -- along with a few others. I actually use four rear lights -- two facing directly backwards mounted on my seatpost and one facing right the other facing left mounted on my chain stays. Hey, safety first. Especially when you've got a kid in a child's seat.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The best., September 1, 2011
By Erick
This tail light is one of the best choose in the market. It's brightly, lighter, have a really good light, easy to setup, easy to use and I use a joke here: Now everybody can see me, even if you come in the airplane.
Really nice product.

Very bright. Love the strobe feature. Battery life is very good. I would recommend this to anyone that rides either daytime or night. I do most of my riding before dawn and this little light is a real asset.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very good .....but not great, February 16, 2012
By Neon's Dad (So California)
Yes I agreed with IHMO, $30.00 for a tail light I expect a better mounting bracket, they put a kind of bracket you expect to find in $9.99 light at Walmart.

Also I not so crazy about steady mode, I rather prefer another blinking pattern, but that just me.
Yes the light very bright and well built ( Except the bracket )

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I love this light!, October 15, 2011
By Goldfish (Phoenix, AZ USA)
To start off this review I should mention that I'm very analytical. I just wont rush out and buy just anything. I have to make sure it's a worthy investment before I fork over my hard earned cash. I live in west Phoenix, AZ and ride my bike all times of the day or night. I don't commute with my bike but I merely ride just for the fun of it. I mounted this light on my Diamondback Response Sport. To start off with this by saying it's a great light doesn't do it any justice. I will explain why. I did my homework before ordering a tail light and after all the reviews and video's I could find this one stuck out to me the most. It's design is better than any other light I have seen in person i.e. (REI, LBS). It's easy to mount, sturdy when mounted, and low profile. It's made of a higher grade and thickness of plastic v.s. other tail lights I have seen. It isn't water proof.. but i'd imagine in a light rain you would be fine with it. It's got great flashing patterns and good battery life. I've noticed that when using it, drivers take much more caution to what I am doing v.s. when using other lights like a cheap big box store light. Over all this is a great light. I'd be willing to say it's probably the best deal going right now for a bike tail light. If you're not decided on what you want to buy yet for a tail light you should strongly consider this one. You wont be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Sensibly designed, sensibly priced, October 7, 2011
By Alan Thompson
I use it as a backup as the capacitor died on my generator lights, meaning every time my wheel stops, both my headlight and tail light goes dark. With winter coming, my commutes are now in the dark for both morning and night. I don't want to be waiting at a light and have someone not see me.

Replacing batteries (necessary after about 50 hours as the light is fairly bright) is a snap, with directions included in the packaging. I would recommend this light to my fellow bike commuters here in L.A.

Packaging was good. Light came with connectors for both the Seat tube and seat stays, as well as a clip to attach to saddlebags or panniers.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great light - brighter than Planet Bike Blinky, October 5, 2011
By AcornMan (Denver, CO)
I bought this light to replace my Planet Bike Blinky, which I didn't think was bright enough. This light is definitely brighter. And there's no way even a sleepy or distracted motorist could miss the flash pattern. I feel safe riding with this on the back of my bike.

this is a good light. the one setting practically looks like a police light or emergency light. VERY visible. I have it on my mtn bike which i use for local commuting. Its also held up well on trails where it gets hit w mud and water and all the beating you would expect on off road trails.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best High-Intensity, Bright Tail Light!, September 12, 2011
By CDB (Phoenix, AZ)
Great Light! Mounts on the rear of my PDW Payload Rack, with just a little help from the Planet Bike Tail Light Rack Bracket. The battery life is pretty strong also.

I don't have any stats on this light, but let's just say this thing gets attention and cars steer clear around me!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Danger Zone Tail Light, May 10, 2011
By Charles
I don't know the most about tail lights, but just like all my other purchases i try to do my hw before I buy. The entire casing is very strong and has quality plastic. I was torn between this and the radbot 1000, but i really appreciate the two led's over 1 led and one reflector of the radbot. I've ridden on a decent amount of bumps, but have yet to have it fall off. its also easy to unlatch if you plan on leaving your bike for a while. Overall im highly satisfied =]

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Strong bright light, looks high tech, sturdy and high quality finish overall, March 30, 2011
By Jet Lee
As soon as I took it out the box, I thought it looked great; it has a modern design and looks good in my black/white/red performance road bike. I like the unorthodox blinking pattern when set on blink mode. Puts out a bright but not too intrusive light. I haven't ridden in the rain yet, but I would say it would stand inclement weather without a sweat. Good product for the price, easy to put on and adjust. Would definitely buy again.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  ESSENTIAL for Urban Riding, January 28, 2012
By H-townboy (Houston, TX)
I live in the Inner Loop of Houston - densely populated with heavy traffic. I would not ride my bike after dark before purchasing this light. Since purchasing almost three months ago, I ride at night (using the rapid flash mode) with confidence - especially when I see cars slow down and make a wide arc when they pass me. It is much brighter than my friend's lights and they have said that the light is so bright that it's annoying to follow me. I guess not too annoying, however, because they have all since purchased one and replaced their old lights! It was easy to install and I love that is uses AA batteries. Battery life has been very good. The light also removes easy and stores in my backpack while my bike is locked up in public places. I don't know about now, but when I purchased it, Amazon had the lowest price I could find. Excellent product - highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  You will be seen, November 9, 2011
By Brian
I compared a fair amount of the lights in this price range and ended up deciding to go with the Danger Zone after reading reviews and watching demonstrations on YouTube. This light is crazy bright and you will be seen in the dark. I clip this on my backpack along with some reflective strips and I know I'll be seen by cars behind me. It's got great range of reflection, you don't have to be perfectly behind the light to see it. I use the first setting the most as it's twice as bright as the second and third settings, but each has it's purpose. Overall, this thing is solid, rain is no problem, and gives me a good feeling knowing that I'm definitely catching drivers' attention as they come up on me.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Really great light, November 3, 2011
By dMoneyDizzle
What can I say about this light? Based on all the great reviews I went with the Portland Design Danger Zone and I'm glad I did. It is a solid light that includes a couple of good mounts. I ended up zip-tying the big mount to my seat rails and the light hangs over my saddle bag because I had no space on my seat tube. You could also attach it to your helmet or bag, etc., using the smaller mount if you wanted. The mounts clip in design is solid, no worrying about the light falling out. It has a few different modes; steady, slow flash, and the one I use, "fast-flash". You simply mount it, turn it on, and ride. No worrying about being seen from the rear, this thing is bright.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great!, October 30, 2011
By bluelight_mike
Not much to say, I have had it for a month now. It mounts easily, it clips in securely, and unclips so you can take it with you and not worry about someone stealing it. It seems plenty bright to me, and has survived several rainy trips. There is a long flash mode, a strobe flash mode and a solid mode. I usually go for the strobe flash as it is very noticeable. Great product.
Edit:
I just want to mention at the two month mark, I'm still very happy. It seems very weatherproof as well. I've used in a several rain storms, with no fender and it has held up thus far. Very pleased!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Safety!, April 9, 2012

This one nets me a wider berth from passing traffic than any light I've ever had. I was told by drivers who passed me that they thought it was a trooper car from half a mile back! This one gets attention for sure. Combine with a bright LED headlight and you have yourself a great combo. I've had other lights but this one blows them away.

It lasts a long time, and is super bright, man. I wish it had a built in reflector sort of but I have so much reflective stuff on the back of my bike already that it doesn't really matter. That and it's never run out of battery life before I swapped in more batteries for the heck of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Brightest Tail Light You Can Get, October 30, 2011
By Matt
Probably the most important safety light is your tail light when riding in traffic. This is the best one in my opinion. Be sure to get a rack bracket ([..]) if you have a rack on your bike to mount it on. If you are mountain biking in rough terrain I'd recommend removing the light from the clip so you don't risk losing it. I don't like taking it on and off though so I used a dot of gel super glue to keep it semi-permanently in place on the mounting bracket.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The best tail light, so far., February 1, 2012
By daphne22 (Northport, AL)
What makes the PDW Danger Zone the best I have used is that it has the best off axis degree of visibility (as other reviewers have stated.) Unlike most all the others, careful aiming of the tail light isn't as crucial because the light spreads wider.

I was so impressed I was motivated to review this product. This is only one of a couple of reviews I have ever written in the hundreds of purchases I have made through the years.

Compared to most all the other similar products on the market, PDW Danger Zone will not disappoint. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Used for night jogging, January 3, 2012
By Tristan Stewart (Ohio)
I purchased this to go with a headlamp for night time jogging on the road. I know this is primarily a bike taillight but some other folks had this idea and it sounded good to me. I do also have a bike and it easily clips onto the bike mount and off for jogging. It has worked great as a bike tail light.

I also considered the Planet Bike Superflash (I think it was the Turbo model was the latest greatest). I ultimately decided on the Danger Zone for one specific reason, it had a wider viewing angle. With the PBSF if you weren't directly behind it was much dimmer looking. From the video reviews the PDW DZ was much brighter at any slight off angle, and even strait back the longer pulse length of the DZ seemed to make up for the brighter LED in the PBSF. However in my actual testing, the DZ still is fairly narrow, sure you can see it from off angles but the hotspot is still fairly tight. I would doc it a little but not quite a full star so I'll just leave it at 5. For running, the narrow angle is also an issue since its hard to clip it onto something that will keep it pointing direct back and level. I tried on my vest, shorts, etc, and it would either sag downward and point towards the ground or bounce all around. I finally clipped it to the back of my headband, and that is how I wear it to this day. It has to be lined up, so a bit tedious, and you cant take it off or mess with it once its set or it might not be pointing straight back anymore. What I do is put it on in front of the big mirror in my bedroom. I adjust the headband so the DZ is pointing straight back level (I look at its hotspot on the wall behind me in the mirror. Then I set the headlamp either pointing straight ahead level or down at the floor 15 feet ahead or wherever I would want it jogging. While jogging if a car is coming I just remember to point my headlamp where I have it set - either straight ahead to the horizon or down at the ground in front of me, then the taillight should be pointing straight back level.

For night running I also ware a reflective vest (Amphipod Xinglet) along with a pair of reflective ankle straps and whatever reflective stuff is already part of my clothes. My headlamp is a ZebraLight H51 series, and I use a Nite Ize headband.

Overall its great, and I feel much safer running on the roads at night with this paired with my headlamp and reflective gear. The only cons I can find for my usage is I wish it were wider angle and perhaps some adjustment in the clip to aim it. I also wish it were just a single AA like my ZebraLight H51, so I could use the same batteries, but that's not a biggie I don't think there are any good bike taillights that are 1xAA.

4.5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great, December 9, 2011
By Adam B. (PA)
I switched from the Superflash to to this after reading all the reviews I could find on the web. I love that it fits in the same mounting bracket so I can move it from one bike to another easily. This light is very bright, and has a very unusual pattern to it that seems to work well. I really like the button compared to that on the Superflash. I have two of those, and have always had issues with them coming on or changing modes by themselves. And yet, they are hard to manually activate. I did improve them a bit by filing the inner switch button down some. At least they don't come on by themselves as much. Anyway, I recommend this new light. So far it has been great.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Wow much brighter than expected..., March 15, 2012
By JayBird (Austin, TX)
I never give a product 5 stars unless it's really an outstanding product. This one comes very close for me as I've tried several different rear tail lights from "big name" companies and haven't found one I really like until now. Purchased this on a whim from an Amazon product recomendation that was based on my wish list and browsing history. Never had heard of this company but I will definitely recomend this product. Very sturdy with a good solid casing and a decent clip to hold this on my bike. Very bright as well and I appreciate the alternating pattern in the flash as normal on-off-on-off flashing I've seen behind other bikes has tended to blend in with things and to me is less eye catching. This definitely will catch a drivers attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Beware if you have Epilepsy! (I'm only partially kidding on that), March 10, 2012
By Robert Stone (Midwest / Ohio)
I ride during the day but after noticing the higher visibility that tail lights offer I decided to buy this. This is a great super-bright tail light. It has 3 modes, steady, an easy flash mode, and a very attention-getting flash mode which I think truly could induce a seizure in someone who has a seizure disorder and for whom photic stimulation has caused problems in the past. The unit includes a mount for around bike post and a very clever clip which can either be attached to the mount (with a satisfying snap into place) or clipped on a belt / shorts. This unit could therefore easily be used by runners as well.

Overall, I am very pleased with this unit and would highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Is that a small motorcycle?? No its a biker, Wow thats a bright light!!, March 8, 2012
By Kevin Edward Longtin
Best and brightest tail light for the cost I've found. Easy to install easy to use and it works great. You can see this thing like you see car lights. You can't ask for much more. Three settings for personalized prefference. It would only be better if it didn't take actual batteries but at least its AAA and not some crazy 40 dollar battery. It has a clip on the light so you don't have to use the mount. I use it while I'm running and clip it to a belt so cars see me crossing streets. I might get a second one to wear one front and back. Nothing is more important than road safety and not getting creamed because someone didn't see you. Use this product and it will greatly diminish your chances of an accident.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Bright light and unique blink pattern demand attention, March 7, 2012
By Aaron R. Deutsch
I live in New York City and commute every day to work.

I would simply echo/summarize the prior comments by saying that the key selling points are:

1) Bright!

2) Unique, irregular flash pattern is reminiscent of construction or emergency vehicles such as ambulances, snow plows and police cars. It clearly cuts through the visual "noise" in urban areas.

At the end of the day all bike tail lights are plastic with LEDs made in China so the construction will seem a little cheap and these will not last forever but it what it is. Compared to most other lights in this category this is one of the best.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great light, you get what you pay for, April 16, 2012
By Josh
This light may be a little more expensive that the comparative Planet Bike rear lights but it is far brighter than the cheaper brands.

I used to have the generic Planet Bike but it wasn't nearly as bright as the PDW tail light. The build quality of this light also feels much better, thicker plastic, and a real rubber button on the bottom(my Planet Bike seemed to just have a thin piece of plastic which was really annoying to push with gloves). The activation button on this light is rubber and you can actually feel the clicks between the various modes.

I highly recommend this bike tail light!

Usable during day and night, February 13, 2012
By J. Pfeiffer (FL)
I'm new to road cycling and keep hearing horror stories of people being hit by cars, so I want every safety advantage I can get. This taillight provides very bright light during daytime rides in addition to the night. I went for a few rides before getting this light and noticed cars staying in the lane closest to the bike lane on four lane roads, then after I installed this taillight and set it to flashing, cars move a lane over long before they get to me almost every time. The light feels like it's good quality and with all of the other positive reviews it seems like a nice option.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Little Tail Light, February 11, 2012
By Js
Bought this tail light after looking at PDW's video introduction. Never regretted buying it over other brands as its different blink mode made me feel safer whilst travelling on the road. Will definitely recommend fellow cyclist to get one and try.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best Light I've Used, February 8, 2012
By IMHO
This light definitely lived up to the reviews and the videos. By far the brightest I have used. Perfect for night rides, gives me confidence I will be seen. The only thing I was not impressed by was the bracket that came with it to mount. A very cheap and somewhat flimsy piece. Only one side of the bracket is threaded and the single screw is very thinly threaded which doesn't match the quality I expected. For a $30 taillight I would expect something much more sturdy, Needless to say I used a different bracket so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great light for visibility, February 7, 2012
By Krys (Seattle, WA)
This light is extremely bright and the random blinking mode makes you very visible. If you do a lot of road riding around vehicles this light is a must.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Great when the Batteries aren't Dead, February 17, 2012
By drained
when I first got this tail light, i loved it. super bright, great design, easy to mount, etc. a few weeks later, i found out i had a problem. this light drains battery life even when it's not turned on. whoops. so performance drops drastically in about a week, and dies in two or three.

if you're going to buy this lamp, make sure you're using rechargeable batteries, and that you have plenty of them.

i give it 5-stars for features and functionality, but 1-star for battery life (turned off or on). 2-stars overall because changing batteries constantly is an hassle.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great flash patterns, bright light, April 5, 2012
By B (Chicago IL)
When the light is noticeably dimmer, replace the batteries, and preferably with rechargeables. This light will turn off without warning when the batteries are low.

Other than that it has a great design, excellent side visibility, balanced eye-catching flash patterns, it is extremely bright. My favorite tail light to which I compare all other tail lights.

Rechargeables are recommended because it does eat up batteries, plus you are saving money in the long run, being environmental, etc. Tenergy makes high capacity low drain aaa batteries that are affordable.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Feeling very illuminated lately!, March 29, 2012
By S. Hirschler (Philadelphia, PA)
I was riding my bike one day and thought to myself, "golly gee, I deserve the best and brightest in bike safety technology and I should really see if there's something more powerful out there than my planet bike superflash." And thus my quest for the brightest tail light emerged and so I ordered the Dangerzone. It proved to be incredibly bright and powerful and I felt safer and more visible on the road right away. Thank you, PDW for creating this awesome product!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great product, March 21, 2012
By jt
I purchased this through Amazon and it arrived on time. The packaging was all intact and the light works perfectly. I have read other reviews stating that this light drains batteries quickly. I have not experienced that, it still has the original batteries in from when it was purchased. It is extremely bright and can be easily seen even in the daylight. I would highly recommend this light.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Value for money, March 11, 2012
By Bimal
After using lights of various makes, I decided to buy this one based on customer reviews. Light is really very bright and visible from long distance. I am quite happy with the light. 3 different operation modes are also very useful. Overall a good product and worth the money.

A very bright and well constructed tail light. I rarely ride in the dark or in traffic, but I feel a lot safer with this little guy attached to my hydration pack. Happy with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Well worth the money, April 29, 2012
By LSan702
I'm very happy with this light. It's very very bright and worth every penny. The different settings are useful, but I've been using the varied flashing mode and it's extremely eye catching. Great product so far. Only time will tell how long the batteries will last.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I'm blind, April 26, 2012
By Jim
Wow. I had a different back light for another bike. it has blink, solid, and off modes. i was happy with it. spent a little bit more on this one. totally worth it. turned it on to test it out and nearly went blind. one of the blinking modes is almost obnoxious, like i might be offended seeing it as a driver of a car passing by because its so sporadic and crazy. definitely won't be missed on the road if you have this light. i suppose i shouldnt have given it 5 stars yet as i have no clue how long the battery actually lasts, but i'm not worried about it.
