A good value, April 10, 2010
By Kelly A. Wolske

This is a great entry-level bike. A fantastic price! A word of caution: assembly is NOT for the faint of heart. The instructions are vague at best, actually a one-size-fits-all book with absolutely NO helpful illustrations. Essentially, my husband pulled up the photo of the bike from this site and used that photo to assemble the cycle. The fenders and rear rack are very thin sheet metal, but I didn't really expect otherwise at this price point. I'm using this as a try-and-see for biking to work each day and will only put about 15 miles a week on the bike.

Beautiful, May 19, 2010

I love my new bike! I was worried about the assembly but it was actually quite simple to put together. All I needed to assemble were the handlebars, front tire, seat and the pedals. The gears were already in place so I didn't have to worry about that. Which saved me a headache because I wouldn't know what to do in that situation! You don't need many tools either. Just a set of allen wrenchs, phillps screw driver and a monkey wrench. Its worth the money which I think is a great price for an awesome product. I am so pleased with my purchase!!!!

very nice bike, July 5, 2010
By S. Barackman (TX)

I am more than pleased with this bike. It is much easier to pedal than my Huffy womans bike of the same type (bike with gears.) I hardly have to get out of #5 going up an easy incline where with the other bike I had to go all the way to #1. I bought a basket for the back, a bell and odometer to spiff out this new ride!!! Very good quality for the price.

Defective brake Hardware :(, August 18, 2010
By Andee
|
|
This bike was beautiful and I was excited to find everything I was looking for in a bicycle at this price point, it's almost unheard of - fenders, speeds, rack.
Unfortunately I had to give the bike 2 stars as I had to return it as defective.
Initially after assembly the rear tire bubbled out. It was a quick free repair at the local bike shop. However when it bubbled again I left this bike overnight for a new tire and a once over and had them look at a brake wire that was a bit pinched where it connects at the handlebar. When I picked it up: bad news. The wire was not an issue but the brake hardware at the rear wheel was completely defective, so much that there was not a thing they could do about it. The defect caused the brake pad to rub on the tire and/or the wheel itself. I was willing to get it repaired but like I said they couldn't do anything about it.
It is a very heavy bicycle as well, so keep that in mind. I live on the 2nd floor and heaving it up the stairs was a chore, to say the least. So keep that in mind.
I was tempted to try for a replacement but I couldn't take the chance that another bike would come with the same issue.
This bike is great looking and the whole package, I was sorely disappointed that I had to return it for a refund.

Great bike!, September 5, 2010
By mertmag (Visalia, CA USA)

This bike is great for the price. The assembly was easy and all the parts were there. For the price I ould say this is a great value.
Is the shifter on the cheap side? Yes
Is the frame solid? Yes
Is there a good range of adjustment? Yes
For the price there is nothing that comes close to it. Considering that with Amazon free shipping and all the features it is a no brainer. What not spend $40.00 more for a bike with gears than one without. Wide comfortable seat and I can ride upright (important to me because of a bad back.)The shifter is the weakest point (touchy to get to the right gear) but easy after a little use. Is it as good as a $900 bike? No. But it's far better quality than anything in it's price range.

Nice, August 9, 2010
By Mike W

I got this bike for my wife (62). It is nice. Gears seem a little high, i.e., geared for speed. Gears 2 and 1, perhaps 3 will be used most (out of 7). Brake adjustment required quite a bit of time and tinkering. Chain guard needed a small amount of adjusting (bending) to avoid pedal arm - no big deal. Front fender arrived with a small scratch - down to bare metal. I just reported that, so I do not know if anything will be done about it. Rear carrier is light duty. Seat is very good. Handle bar grips are small diameter with lots of texture. Overall, the bike is a good style, and sturdy. It must be popular. They have recently raised the price. But, it is a nice bike.

happy with my choice, July 27, 2010
By Laura Barnes
|
|
I was looking for a stylish bike to ride to and from the store in town but was unhappy with what was available in my price range. The local bike shops wanted $300 plus for their cruisers but I didn't have more than $200 to spend. They also told me a rack and kickstand would be extra! I ran across this bike and really liked the price and the style. Not to mention it has gears for the hills I would be riding and it already has a kick stand and a rack. The seat is supper comfy and the assembly is very easy. The quality isn't top notch (fender are a little flimsy) but it will do the job for leisurely summer rides and short trips around town.
The bike arrived on time but is was a little scratched up and there was a slice in the handle bar grip from the zip tie that was around it. Other than than I am pleased with my choice.

Slight Disaster and Disappointment, January 8, 2011
By SMiller
|
|
I suppose the first clue was how the box appeared. If there's something poking out, just send it back. One fender arrived with a 2-inch dent and other part had the paint scraped off it. I've found a few more modest scratches and dings as well. Amazon customer service helped with that, but if you think you'll return the bike once you get it, good luck getting those awkward 44-lbs back in the box-within-a-box, because that's how it has to be sent back.
Ease of assembly? Anything but. Tomorrow, I'll be going to the neighborhood bike shop for them to re-thread the front brake wire, which popped out during an attempt to get the front tire on. There are no assembly instructions included and, while I regularly assemble Ikea furniture sans instructions, a rudimentary illustration on a few areas would've been appreciated. Trial and error are a little un-fun in this arena. The neighborhood bike shop will also be attaching my seat because, by this point, I've given up the fight. Also, be sure to have a full set of Allen wrenches, or a neighbor who does. My advice is to just take it right to a bike shop and pay the money to have them assemble it. Save yourself the headache.
I look forward to riding it home from the bike shop tomorrow with hopes that all the bad of the bike is behind me, and this isn't just the beginning of it.

scratched and parts missing, June 16, 2010
By Samuel F. Shriver
|
|
The bike was received in 8 days from the order date which was great. Upon starting assy I noticed the fenders were dented and scratched. The seat post was missing and a bolt to hold on the front fender. I would not order another bike because of this. The bike overall is ok but will have to acquire a seat post, touch up the fenders...
Dissapointing as it was a gift for my wife. :>(

Schwinn Lakeshore 26" Women's Bike, the "Rusty", July 23, 2011
By Thomas
|
|
When the bike arrived it looked very nice and seemed to be a good purchase. After a few weeks its quality deteriorated significantly.
Now it's almost a year since my wife started using it and it is half rusted. I spoke to customer support of Amazon, and they told me they can do nothing after 30 days. If you are looking for a product that will last more than a year this is for sure not a good choice.

Love this bike, March 16, 2011
By See ya in Newport
|

We love to ride the boardwalk, to the Wedge and River Jetty and this bike is perfect. We shopped the local beach cruiser stores but did not want to pay $350 and up for a bike that would be in sand and salt water. Took a chance and ordered this one - I LOVE IT! Perfect size, shipped quickly, easy to assemble thanks to my handy husband. We had a little bit of adjustment issues with the gears but our neighbor is a former bike store guy. Showed how to fix, was easy. The bike looks great, is light, easy to ride, just the right amount of gears for me. Added a basket in front and it has the rack on the back, perfect for Sunday farmer's market purchases. See you at Mutt's for breakfast! You'll know we are there 'cuz this cute bike is out front.

Like It, But Tire Immediately Blew, February 9, 2011
By Jolie Flora (Menlo Park, CA United States)
|
|
My only comment is negative, though the overall bike is cool and just as pictured/described. When inflating one of the tires for the first time, it blew before it even reached the recommended PSI. My husband is a life-long bike rider and has worked on all kinds of bikes, including expensive road bikes, mountain bikes, my cruisers, and has never had this happen before. The tube blew AND the tire itself got a bad tear in it. I just went and bought 2 new ones because you really can't find a matching one. I got whitewalls, which are much cooler anyway, but necessitated spending an additional $60. I suspect the tires it ships with are low-quality, so maybe plan for spending additional money on some better ones.

Finally got my Pretty New Bike, August 2, 2010
By Kimberly Smith
|
|
After a bit of a long wait I finally got my beautiful new bike !!! It rides like a dream and with the added white basket I purchased it looks soooooo stylish. A must buy. I purchased this bike for commuting back and fourth to work and light grocery shopping. I'm now just waiting on the U-Lock so I can take this bike for a spin !!!!! I also would like to add that in the product description tools that are needed for items such as bikes should be included as well. My fiance used a flat head screwdriver, different sized allen wrenches,a monkey wrench(he improvised and used a crab claw breaker because it has not arrived yet from a third party that sells through Amazon), and adjustable pliers was needed . The fenders look really nice even though others called them flimsy and cheap looking, I love it. The rear rack is really nice and big. I'm glad I got the bike for $169.00 but would have gladly paid the current price for it which is $199.00. I've seen this bike for a lot more on other websites even craigslist. Again a must buy !!!!!

Very well made, August 30, 2010
By Kobayashimaru (Maryland)

I purchased this bike as a 35th birthday gift for a friend and she loved it. There were no issues with the delivery, manufacturer, or the assembly of this bike. It was pretty straight forward well made. In fact, she rides it to work most days now and loves the bike. Everyone at her job thinks it is great as well. Overall I am very satisfied with the purchase.

Directions #@^%, August 10, 2010
By somewhat happy rider
|
|
I'd read another review about the directions being vague and sure enough-they were. So glad that I'm able to figure these things out for myself. I've never worked on a bike before and the directions were so generic, they were almost useless. Did find information about adjusting brake tension helpful.
The bike came in another larger box that did not have the "keep this side up" label on it. I wondered if that was why the rake over the rear wheel was slightly bent. Don't know why the bike needed to be put in another box...the Schwinn box was very sturdy. Having to pull the bike box out of another larger box was difficult. Overall, I am happy with the bike and the price, but I would not recommend this to someone who wasn't mechanically minded.

Cheap parts, same malfunctionwith 3 replacements, July 21, 2011
By Esmeralda Chavez (Bakersfield, CA)
|
|
I was very excited about this bike especially because it was a Schwinn at a great price. When I received it, the assembly instructions in the manual do not pertain to the model I purchased. They are very general so they don't help at all. All was fine after figuring out the assembly. I took it around the block and tested the gears. I shift gears slowly giving the bike time to change to 2nd gear, I go to 3rd and the bike stops. I look down and the derailleur is bent up into the wheel which in turn bend the spokes on the rim, the bar that attaches to the fender, and the bar that attaches to the storage area over the rear wheel. At first I thought this was my fault because I didn't wait to get it tuned.
Anyways long story short I ordered a replacement, this time I took it into the broke shop to get it tuned. Everything was working fine and I took it out on a bike trail. I changed gears and the first thing that happens after several gear changes is the derailleur jams up into the wheel again. So now I'm thinking this bike must not be meant for trails. I order a replacement AGAIN (don't ask me why) and same thing happens. Finally I take it into Sport Chalet and they tell me they have never seen this. They take off the derailleur and immediately tell me that it is a cheap plastic part and unfortunately cant be fixed because it bent the frame as well. So now I'm debating on whether to call for a warranty replacement or just give up completely.

it looks so good especially with a basket, but its too hard to ride up the smallest hill...and i mean a hill that you don't even notice untill you struggle up it on this bike. forget traffic. 1st gear just isn't worth anything on this bike, and that makes this bike no fun to ride. they will take returns but it must be within 30 days. assembly wasn't too hard, but i did need help with the brakes.

Arrived defective, September 21, 2010
By Holly Hong

Assembly took me 5 hours. I have never assembled a bike before. But it is really hard to assemble a bike and ride one that is broken. Front brakes were frayed. Derailer bent. Decorative Chain guard bent. I finally had to take it to the bike shop. Shifting takes some getting used too. Bike is working ok now. Seems like I'm working harder to pedal than I should but I could just be out of shape. Cute bike overall though. not so sure about how it will function.

Good buy, June 16, 2011
By satisfied buyer from Alabama
|

It wasn't that hard to put together, especially if you understand a little basic mechanics. If not, be prepared to take it to a bike dealer. You don't need to be an expert mechanic. I know my wife is going to love it for her birthday. This is a good start-up bike. Well made, the front fender was dented though, a little bit of a disappointment, wasn't worth returning the bike or contacting them over it.

Awesome bike; super easy assembly., May 17, 2011
By EMT
|
|
I was worried about assembly after reading the reviews. This bike comes with a grand total of 8 pieces (9 if you count the owners manual). They are: 2 pedals, a handlebar, front tire, seat, seat post, front fender, and everything else (frame, brake cables, derailer, chain, all that is already assembled!) . The brake cables come attached to the handlebar too, so you don't need to hook anything up. There is no hardware with the bike, it's all in place when you open the box. The hardest part is finding and cutting all of the zip ties so you can get the pieces out of the box!
It is quick to put together and is a really nice sturdy bike for a great price!

Price Drop?, August 17, 2011
By Baby Stotmore (Yorba Linda, CA)

After much research I found this bike. While I am pretty impressed with its features, stability and all around comfort, I am a little disappointed that a week after I purchased this item for $195 the price dropped to $165. Kinda pisses me off that other people get the benefit of such a great bike without having to pay what I did. I think Amazon should give account credit to people like myself. But I would definitely recommend this bike.

Packaging Sucks, Damaged, June 23, 2011
By Amazon Sucks

|
Worst packaging ever. Bike arrived damaged, trashed basicly. There were so many holes in the box it looked like swiss cheese. There was no internal packaging, no foam, etc. The bike was just thrown in to the box. Anything that stuck out made holes thrugh the box and got scratched and bent. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM! You won't be happy with it. If I wanted a scratched bike, I would have bought a used one on craigslist.

Decent bike, but difficult to assemble without instructions, March 3, 2011
By Amanda Worthington
|
|
I ordered this bike because reviews indicated that it was easy to assemble. Nothing could be further from the truth. The bike came with the wrong instructions, and one of the brake clamps was warped so badly that I couldn't assemble that portion of the bike. I ended up taking it to a local bike shop and having it assembled properly. The shop had to make an adjustment on the pedals too, which make contact with the frame of the bike.
Honestly, if I could do it all over again, I'd purchase my bike from a bike shop-not online.

Excellent purchase, May 17, 2011

Easy to put together, gears already in place. Sturdy bike and cute! Some reviews state the bike is too heavy and difficult to assemble. I'm not sure where they get that. When I saw those reviews I compared the weight of this bike to the weight of others and they are comparable. Very few pieces to assemble. Love it!

The only thing was a little skeeky noise, but nothing that could not be fixed with some WD40.

Although I am very happy to have chosen the Schiwinn Lakeshore Cruiser, I had it sitting in my living room for two weeks until my parents came to visit me and took me to a bike shop to have it put together. Is no at all easy to ensamble and it doesn't say that when you buy it. Is it posible to order it already ensambled?!!! that would be great.
All my friends want a bike just like mine!!!

I love this bike!, January 30, 2012
By dianakk

I was a little nervous about putting a bike together by myself, as I am definitely not mechanically inclined. It took be around two hours, and that was after putting the front wheel on wrong the first time (I had the forks turned backward, so the tire kept hitting the bar). After putting on the front wheel, handlebars, seat, and pedals (everything else was already connected), I just went around and checked that the gears, brakes, etc. were tight. My inaugural ride was uneventful...except that someone rolled down her window at a light to compliment my bike. With a basket on the back, this will be a great bike for commuting to work.

Bike itself is fantastic!, September 13, 2011
By Duffy P. Weber
|
|
I understand the other reviewers are coming from a position of having problems with the item being damaged in shipping. I (full disclosure) purchased mine at Meijer. After I'd been to two other Meijers where it was obvious that, despite their better efforts to properly assemble them, the original shipping of the item had indeed taken a toll on it.
I've had it up and down the trails and to the grocery store on and off and I must say, it's a comfy and pleasant ride. The thing to remember is whether you have it professionally done or do it yourself, the bike IS assembled by someone, so if you buy it at a big-box store, be sure everything's hooked up right.
The long story short is, if you get a good one, it's DEFINITELY worth the price. I'm going to have to tinker a bit with the Shimano derailleur (same problem as always with the Shimano - you have to hold it manually into lowest gear until you shim the bolts, but that's most EVERY bike with this derailleur, which is almost every bike.)
If you don't mind tweaking a bit here and there (a little tightening of the fender guard here, a little WD-40 on the crank there) this is an insanely sweet little bike for the price. I just brought home 35 pounds of groceries in mine.
I do, however, wholly recommend this bike WITH THE CAVEAT that if it shows up damaged, send it back and ask for a good one. It's a nice little bike.

Love my new purple bike...I had the seat too low at first which made it hard to pedal. After raising the seat, it's a great ride. We also bought one for our 22 year old daughter and she's very happy with her bike as well. I especially like the white wall tires, and the white fenders...very retro. It didn't take my husband long to put it together...there were a few minor scratches on the fender.

I am a little disappointed, part of the gear mechanism was bent as well as the back rim. The paint on one part of the frame is also scratched. I will have to put more money into it to have it repaired at a bicycle shop. Don't think I will ever purchase another bicycle online. I'm hoping that I won't come across anymore issues after taking it to the shop and actually getting to ride it!

Fun Bike, May 14, 2012
By RJM
|
|
I would have preferred to purchase this bike in a store, but that wasn't an option, so I went with plan B. I was happy to find out that it arrived fairly quickly, (less than a week). Assembly took me about 1.5 hours, mostly due to a learning curve. The bike arrived secured into the box, with all loose parts zip tied together so they did not move.
I did have a couple easily fixed issues, the seat was angled strangely, so I had to reorient the seat to a more comfortable position. Additionally, the gear shift was not working, but my husband was able to tweak the tension and fixed that within a few minutes.
The purple is a wonderful deep purple, much better than the picture showed. Over all, the bike feels sturdy and is fun to ride, and I have not ridden a bike in more than 15 years!
I would purchase this bike again. Buyers should be aware that the assembly is fairly easy, but you will need to interpret some directions, that you may need to make adjustments over the first few days of ownership, and that this bike is not light. I would not recommend this for anyone living on the 2nd floor or needs to pick-up/ carry the bike places.
I gave it 4 stars, due to the fact I needed to assemble it myself, and that it took a few days to work out the assembly issues, which may be user error.
