Good Pads for the Money, February 27, 2009
By MJB (WI)
|
|
These pads are of relatively good quality, especially for the price. They are easy to take on and off and are light and comfortable while skating. I purchased them for Roller Derby and plan to buy something that offers a bit more protection before any serious competition. A note about sizing: Go a size smaller, as the elastic straps do stretch.

knee pads bite!, April 18, 2010
By Michelle Montgomer
|
|
the knee pads broke the first time i wore them to roller derby practice. the lower velcro strap is in a poor spot so it will easily rip off when falling on your knees. if you get them for mere protection while skating and don't intend on really practicing falling, then they're alright for beginners. Also, i got the large, based on the knee measurement given in the chart but the wrist guards are a bit too big so just be aware that if you thin and measure (at he knee) in the lower range of the "large" you might want to go with the medium.

Sturdy and Safe, July 25, 2008
By BMS (Kansas)

These pads are worth the money. Putting on the gear is simple and the manufacturing quality is good. Falling on my skates if I push myself a little bit too far is no issue any longer as these pads cushion the blow very well and let me get right back up and at it.

A must have item, April 25, 2011
By Jennifer L. Rinehart (United States of America)

My husband commutes about three miles to work on a razor scooter. Eight days ago, in a shady spot, he missed a rather large crack in the pavement and went flying over the handles and landed heavily and painfully on his knee. Now, if he'd been a kid, the injury would have been shortlived, just a bruise and another pair of kneeless jeans, but instead, his knee swelled up and he had to bus it to work for a week while he waited for his knee to heal.
I don't know why neither of us thought about knee pads (and elbow and wrist protection) until after his accident, it seems perfectly obvious now!
Anyways, this set had a great number of excellent reviews and the price was pretty good considering you'd get a full package of protective gear, much less expensive than buying each item individually.
So, his second day out scootering, he hit a slimy patch of pavement, kismet? It was probably a combo of rain, worms (they flock to the sidewalks here, gross, right?) and moss (the pacific northwest is a mossy place) and he went down again, this time with the protective gear in place. His brand new knee pad is a bit scarred and scratched now from the impact but it protected him perfectly! Yahoo!
Same same with the elbow pads. The only complaint he has is about the wrist braces, they are so stiff that it makes it impossible to grip the steering collumn on his scooter, so he's had to leave them off. I bet they'd work great for people who are skating or skateboarding, though since they don't have to use their hands so much.
So, the pluses;
Comfortable fit, the knee and elbow braces are adjustable and stay put when he straps them on over his clothing
relatively lightweight and they do not interfere with his movements
good price
They work! The knee and elbow brace kept my honey from being re-injured!
Now for the downside;
Just the one, the wrist braces are not compatible with the scooter (because you have to use your hands to grip the handles). They are too stiff and it is too hard to move your fingers when wearing them. This is a minor complaint, the knees and elbows were of most concern to us.

Triple Eight High Impact 8 Protective Gear, September 17, 2010
By Chilli (Michigan)
|
|
Bought a new skateboard and needed protective gear for my 11 year old. Bought this product and am greatly satisfied! Equipment is easy to put on and take off, durable, yet light weight. The hand protection is a little smaller in comparison to the rest of the equipment but they work great. Great product for the price.

Decent pads for the price. Nothing real great about them. A little uncomfortable but they work as well as any other knee pad.

Not good enough for derby, May 10, 2012
By Susan (Washington DC)
|
|
These are very basic pads, so if you are just using these for casual skating, they should be fine. They are not good enough for roller derby though, you will soon have to upgrade, so you might as well invest in the higher level pads (this brand is fine, or 187s). I bought these when I was just starting out, and had to get new knee pads within a month, as these pads do not stay in place or provide enough protection for the kind of falls you take in derby. I'm now looking into replacing the elbow pads after taking a few falls, and I suspect the wrist guards will be next. Spend a little more and save in the long run.

Excellent!, December 25, 2011

This set of protective gear is high quality and perfect for cycles, boards, and other similar sports. Size large was perfect for my 11-year old son. It is important to use the sizing descriptions to be sure to get a set that fits.

Good quality; good fit, December 7, 2011
By Y. Mandelbaum (NJ)
|
|
I bought these for my eight-year old daughter, after trying many others, both in-store and ordering (and returning). I'm happy with their build quality, and she's happy with their fit. They are exactly what you would expect from good quality pads.
That said, what I like most (as the purchaser) is that they're true to fit! My experience in searching for these is that many of the similar products either don't tell you what their sizing scheme means, or they don't get it right. In contrast, the product description and comments for these were right on target.

Love them!, March 7, 2011
By Rogue8402

These are really comfortable. They have nice velcro straps. The knee and elbow pads are nicely cushioned. They are well made. I believe the sizing only refers to the wrist guards. The knee and elbow come in a one size fits most deal. I love them.

EH., April 24, 2012
By Drew A. Arbuckle
|
|
These are definitely middle of the road guards. the area covered is fairly small, and the quality does seem a little low grade, but there are derby girls in the area that wear the brand so I thought that it would be good enough. Only time will tell, but if youre looking for a higher grade set this isn't it. the 187 brand may be a little better, but twice as much, you pay for what you get.
