By William P Brosnan (Washington Dc)

The LEDs on this thing are so bright and the clip on is real easy. The only problem is that it's easy to steal aka thats what happened to me, but i'd def buy another one especially for this price.

Solomon, September 15, 2011

It is the best purchase on Amazon I've ever made! I love this item very much!!! Design is perfect, very very good quality. Mounting is very simple and it seems very durable. Size of the head light is very small and lovely. It is about 1 inch of width and up to 3 inches of height.
And what is the most important thing - LIGHT IS VERY BRIGHT!!! I was surprised, that such small thing could be so bright. It is much brighter, than my previous head lights.
I will recommend this head light for 100%!!!

Very bright and easy to install, August 29, 2011
By Seth Horning

I bought this to replace my last cateye headlight. The last had broken after a little more than a year. This one takes two batteries so it is much wider than my last, but it is also much brighter. I like the cateye system for attaching the light to your handlebars. It's easy to fit it on and tighten without any tools. This one has a cheaper clip for removing the headlamp from the clamp though. The last one I had a longish lever that you pressed to remove the light, but this one has a smaller, harder to access lever that is more like a button. I have to remove my light every day when i lock up so it doesn't get stolen, so this is a little annoying to me. It's not been terrible to get it off the bike, but not as easy as the old one. I am also worried about it's ability to withstand rain. I ride year round and it doesn't look to able to resist water. I guess ill just have to see how it holds up.

Great light but needs an engineering update, September 10, 2011
By Adrianne Spoerlein
|
|
I love the convenience of this light. It is just right for my quick commute to work every day. The only downside is that the thumb screw used to hold the device tightly to your handlebars is not "idiot proof". Mine fell off and I didn't even notice until I'm not sure how much later. Good news: the whole thing doesn't fall off your bike if that happens. I contacted Cateye and their customer service is fabulous. They bent over backwards to get me another one at no charge. Seems like they must have run into this complaint before. So - I can't give it the full 5 stars, but definitely worth the money paid.

Great!, August 11, 2011

A very nice light with a very nice mounting bracket. You don't need any tools to put it on except scissors to cut off excess plastic when you're finished. I got this light because of how adjustable and large the mounting bracket could be; you just tighten and loosen it with your fingers. It fit around the grip tape of my Schwinn Prelude when I could find nowhere else to place a standard, hard plastic bracket--there was just no room anywhere else. It lights the road well with its three LEDs, and stays secure with a good battery life. I love this light!

nice little light, January 1, 2012

well i suppose i have been giving a lot of good reviews now that i learned how, and this is no exception. i just think i made some good decisions lately. its an upgrade from my cat eye halogen. its actually brighter and more consistent where my other had a dead center ring. it also uses less batteries and they last longer. i love the way it mounted on the bike with ease and comes off even easier. the batteries can be replaced while its still mounted and everything. i did ride it in light rain, however... i do wish it looked more water resistant than it appears. i would keep it out of a down pour. i suppose it doesnt look like it would take a bullet either but taking into consideration cost/function/weight i think its still a stellar product and would probably only knock it down to 4.7 stars. i still consider that in the high 90% which is still an "A". i dont think 1-5 is enough of an evaluation spread. i will give it a 5 with a small plastic bullet lol... well actually a seal. i think a rubber seal would put me into 100% cuz weight does allow some moderate 'cheap' plastic.

Mobility scooter, December 29, 2011
By JDA

This light is easy to install and is a high quality product. The brightness of the light is visible when used in daylight and provides warning to drivers that a mobility scooter is present. We feel this is an additional safety feature for our father's mobility scooter when crossing streets and parking lots.

Solid light, it's designed well. The light is diffused a bit so it doesn't shoot into one beam. For it's price i'm very happy.

A well designed quality headlight, well bought., November 8, 2011
By winox essential (San Francisco, CA USA)
|
|
Based on prior reviews, I purchased this headlight and found this to be well designed, easy to install, very bright with 3 LED's, and importantly, uses 2 AA batteries. It featured a blinking mode (for efficient use of the batteries)and constant on modes. There was no concern with it staying firmly mounted on the handlebar even when riding over rough pavement. I also found it to be easily removed by depressing a plastic lever and sliding it off the mount. This is a real positive for parking the bike in a public area and removing the headlight would eliminate any temptation by thieves going for a 5-finger discount. This is a 5 star recommendation without any reservation.

Mine broke :[, November 6, 2011
By lupe
|
|
It's a good light. I use it often. I tightened the band as much as possible, but on a big bump, it slipped and loosened up. I was able to tighten it once I stopped. Other than that, it was fine until I took my bike to the shop and the guy working on it said it "broke off". I was pretty sad. Can't afford another one yet.

Compact, sturdy light, good lighting, August 18, 2011
By dream cruizer (Elkhorn, NE United States)
|

Small, sleek, bright white light of LED bulbs...lights pathway quite well. A little pricey for what is essentially a tiny flashlight with a mounting system.
Mounting bracket well-made with dialing knob to attach to roundness of a frame tube, seems to be sturdy after a couple weeks of use by granddaughter on her Schwinn cruiser bicycle. We chose white as her bike is mainly pink with white.
Good product and price was high in my book, but it is a safety feature, so one wants to go with good history of CATSEYE product.
Wish they would construct/design (one with batteries) and a windable charging arm to 'recharge' as seen in some LED hand-held flashlights.
Would recommend.

Good If You Want To Be Seen By Drivers. Not Good For Dark Roads, December 19, 2011

I use this light in blinking mode and it is effective because drivers will see you when you're on the road. If you want to ride down a dark street, forget about it! Get a Cygolite Expilion Bike Light instead.

Perfect for daily use, February 14, 2012
By Hay (Seattle WA)
|
|
I cycle to work 5/7 with my morning ride in dark from Oct.-March. I've used this light in 26 degree mornings, heave rain, snow. From black, no light roads and the few no light areas on the Burke-Gilman Trail.
Cons:
ME - for leaving it on my bike while I 'took just a moment' to buy dog food. Yes it was stolen in Seattle. >>DO NOT leave on your bike!<<
Pros:
>Removable. No one is going to question what looks like the owner of a bike removing the front light so buying one of those huge 'permanent' lights will not work in the city. This light removes easy and fits in the pocket.
>Rechargeable batteries last a week with 40 minutes - 1 hour 5/7 use.
>EASY to remove batteries to recharge.
>Waterproof! Even in Seattle's constant wet to drenching showers.
>Light is very powerful (see my image comparing my old 1 LED light to the Cateye HL-EL135N)! Traffic can see me and I can see the trail when I need to WITHOUT blinding other cyclist coming towards me.
>Price! The front light has 2 purposes. To be seen by traffic and to see the road/trail. Yes you can pay a great deal more for a brighter light but why?

Not very bright, February 12, 2012
By Jesse (USA)
|
|
Pros:
*I love the compact size,
* the adjuster is simple yet effective. This makes adjustment so easy
*80 hours is really good for constant light
* Only 2 batteries, this is maybe the best part
*Fairly sturdy, doesn't feel overly cheap
Cons:
Only one major con
*Not very bright
Listen, the situation you are using this for is probably going to determine if its bright enough for you. But if you ride in total or near total darkness, this definitely isn't bright enough. I bike trails at night, not up in the mountains or something but away from the streets. I should've known better. This isn't enough on its own to see very far in front of you if there aren't streetlights nearby. So if you live some place rural or you do like me, other lights should be considered. But, for being compact and taking only 2 AAA batteries, I guess what can one expect?
I ended up buying a second light that is half the price and considerably brighter.Admittedly it has a slightly cheaper feel, takes 3 batteries instead of 2, and lasts only 65 hours compared to 80, but the bottom line is its considerably brighter. I use them both simultaneously, and have one on each side congruent to each other like headlights. Combined I have more than enough light with both of them, haven't tried the other one alone but this one definitely wasn't enough. The cheaper brighter one, for all who are curious, is the Bell Dawn Patrol LED Headlight, also available on amazon. If you buy one of each like I did its still under $30 so I am not complaining, but I think brightness should be taken under strong consideration in choosing a bike light.

Surprisingly bright!, November 3, 2011
By dMoneyDizzle
|
|
This light is great for lighting up the road or for being seen. It has a somewhat narrow beam similar to a flashlight and is rather bright. It's not going to light up the road like the more expensive lights with battery packs but works well enough for city riding and some dark roads. I combined this light with the Cateye TL-LD150, which is a "be seen" light that I use in flashing mode. This light (HL-EL135N) however I usually have the constant mode on to help light up the road. If the road isn't too dark I will put both lights in flashing mode which I call "Cop mode" and it is very noticeable. The mount is solid as well.

Bad design. Blinds the cyclist using it, leaks., February 2, 2012
By John Braun (Earth)
|
|
Seriously, how hard is it to make sure that a headlight doesn't blink directly into the eyes of the user?
Using this thing in blink mode (IMHO its primary use is to be seen, not to see. This is OK as I have a giant 1000 lumen headlamp to see.) results in blinding the user as the light reflects directly off the inside of the front bezel right back into your eyes. Couple this with a giant hole to let water in the bottom right under the electronics and it's obvious that no serious thought went into this design. It's going back.

Bright enough for traffic, not bright enough for dark paths., March 9, 2012
By D. Wagner
|
|
First off the light is only $18.00 so I didn't expect a super bright incredible light. However the light did impress me. Here's 2 things that I love about the light.
1.) It's extremely well made and the perfect size for your handlebar. It's not to heavy and it totally fits in your pocket. 2.) It is pretty darn bright light. However if your on a really dark path with NO lights along the path it still does pretty good job.
Overall it's a fantastic light for the money. The light holds up to lights twice the price and like I said it's bright and great for city riding.
The ONLY somewhat negative thing is the clip to remove it from the handlebar holder is underneath the light on the front and it's a little tricky to get to but not impossible.
I definitely recommend it to anyone doing night riding.

nicely designed, modestly priced lighting, March 4, 2012
By JCinLV (Las Vegas NV USA)
|

This is a nicely made and designed light that should be very good for casual evening and nighttime riders that don't ride fast or in rough unknown terrain that would need the more expensive high powered light systems. The lamp is tiny and easily removed, but puts out a nice light for most urban situations. Flashing mode is good for daytime and dusk to catch the eye of drivers that might otherwise pull out in front of you.
I recommend this light for the average casual and recreational rider.

Lights up my life!, February 24, 2012

Excellent headlight. It's super bright and you can toggle between a steady beam or flashing light. Compact, lightweight, VERY easy to install and seems pretty sturdy. Love that it came in white to match my bike: Northwoods Ladies Crosstown 21 Speed Hybrid Bicycle, White.
Also, it came with batteries and that's always a plus.

Bright!, April 19, 2012
By Books are Nicer Than Peopl.. (Spokane, WA)

Wow! Extremely bright (as it should be) and extremely easy install. I'd run out and purchase better batteries (litium, as they last longer), as the included ones are your run-of-the-mill off-brand ones.
Great product at a great price. (And the "flashing" mode is a great option and can only increase your safety factor.)

Very bright and long ranged, can be used as a flashlight!, April 8, 2012
By Tony Z.
|
|
I have had this for about half a year. It works perfect for my needs when I ride my bike at night. It has three settings, steady light, blinking lights, and off. To turn it off, you have to hold the button, unlike turning it on and switching between steady and blinking which requires a single click. It is very bright and easy to use. With this, I can see very clearly of reflective signs from a block away, possibly two blocks away. Signs like street signs and stop signs, etc. The awesome thing about this is that it can be used as a flashlight as well, as it is bright, slim, and the design of the light makes it convenient to hold and store in your pocket. This is a must have for people that ride their bikes at night or in the dark. I purchased this through Amazon.

Great headlight, with one exception, April 2, 2012
By Randy M. (San Jose, CA)
|
|
I purchased this headlight from a LBS (cheaper than Amazon! after factoring in shipping). I was using a Cateye headlamp for my bicycle before and it worked for the past 20 years, but it guzzled my batteries (6-8 hours, 4AA) so I found this LED light to replace it. I decided on this unit because of the brand, and because it uses AA batteries.
The unit is sleek. It's very narrow. The body houses 2x AA batteries and the width of the light is barely more than the 2 AA side by side. It's a hair thinner than 2 pennies lying flat side by side. It slides in fairly easily into the provided handlebar mount. It's a bit awkward to release the headlight. I would have preferred the release mechanism to be on the back side (closer to the rider) rather than on the front. There is a little screw on the top of the mount that helps adjust the up-down angle of the light, but unfortunately I could not find a way to adjust the side to side angle. Not a problem in my case, but if you don't mount your light near center it might be a problem.
I do almost all of my bicycle riding at night. The light emitted is very nice. It has a good spread; much better than my old bulb light. I will update on battery life once I use up a pair.
There is one gripe that I have, and this is why I give it a 4. Due to the spread provided by the lens, the light hits my eyes while I'm riding at night! There is little protection from light scattering above the lens. It reflects back more at certain angles, but whatever my body position is with the headlight, I get a strong light in my eyes and it bugs me. YMMV for this, but it's nothing a little electrical tape can't fix.
One nice added bonus is it has a little plastic film over the front of the light. It's similar to a screen protector on a smartphone. It doesn't cover the entire front end, but about 75% of it.
I certainly recommend this product. It's great bang for the buck, from a reputable company, uses 2xAA, great light spread. We'll see about battery life, but it states 80h constant, 320 flashing on the box. Doesn't require tools to install or mount (unless you want to adjust the angle, which you can circumvent by loosening the mount and just adjusting the entire thing). If you're lucky you won't get it shining in your eyes, otherwise get some black tape to block it out, and for those who are wondering it's made in China.

Good to attract attention, not as a headlight, April 11, 2012
By Matt Durkin
|
|
I am 38 years old, and I have been using this light mainly in its flashing mode to attract attention from cars during daylight hours. I have used it in dusk/dark conditions, and it is just not bright enough for me to feel safe using it. If a car is coming toward me, its headlight glare drowns out whatever light this makes, assuring that I have about zero visibility of the road ahead. I installed a 12 V, 55 watt mini headlight that I had originally bought for an old motorcycle I had, and I will be using that for dark night conditions, with a 12 V sealed lead acid battery. (I am riding an electric bike, so the weight of the battery is not a big issue.) This light would be ok if there are streetlights, but not bright enough on a dark road. It is excellent for daytime visibility, though. It attracts the attention of cars in its flashing mode. I use it all the time when I am riding. Battery life has been very good thus far.
