5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great deal for a low-cost crankset, March 14, 2011
By Scooby214 (Oklahoma City)
I purchased this crankset to replace a smaller 42-34-24 crankset on my Schwinn Sierra GS. I did have to replace the bottom bracket on my bike, as my old one was a 112mm and this crankset called for a 122mm bottom bracket. I knew that I would have to replace the bottom bracket, so this wasn't a problem. This crankset has the pins on the chainwheels that allow for very easy shifting. The chainwheels are riveted, but that shouldn't be a surprise at this price. I would buy it again for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great replacment, November 30, 2011
By altecfour
I had an old commuter lying around and it needed a new crankset, I'm entirely new to the world of bicycle repair and such but this was an easy and excellent replacement for the old Shimano it replaced. Just remember to get a crank extractor it makes your life easier to have one.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Rescued a tandem bike, August 24, 2011
By Dewbuoy
If you have a Kent tandem bicycle of the cruiser variety (I don't have the model number but just like mine, it's still sold by Wal-Mart and many others) and ride it a fair amount you're eventually going to need to replace some drivetrain parts like chains, freewheelers, and cranksets. Well, guess what? Kent has a web-site but they hardly have any parts listed for replacement and only the chain from the above list (but not the tandem's forward to rear crank chain). Well, these "department store" bikes continue to be sold in big quantities but if you're like me and don't live in a big city you may have trouble finding a bike shop that can locate parts. Part of the problem is that bikes of this variety don't appeal to many repair shops for a simple reason - not much money to be made working on them for the simple reason that whatever markup there is doesn't amount to much if the bike and/or it's parts don't cost much.
So if you need a crankset like I did to replace your 3 wheel, riveted steel, 48-38-28, square taper crank spindle (with 122mm overall length), and 170mm crankarms then this Shimano M131 is a direct replacement for the ProWheel unit that came on the bike originally. It definitely saved my bacon and in concert with a new freewheeler (readily available) and new chains (the main derailuer chain is a 3/32 x 1/2 pitch of 116 links and the crank-to-crank chain is also 3/32 x 1/2 pitch but requires 150 links so you'll have to make it using two) the bike is good as new and ready for much more enjoyable tandem riding.
Thanks to Amazon for having this site which allowed me to shop and also read comments about these kind of repairs which gave me the confidence to order these parts with a pretty good idea that they would fit and solve my problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Item is exactly what it says it is, November 25, 2011
By Jonathan
To put it simply, this is a pedal crank set. There is nothing real fancy it just gets the job done. Seems pretty well
made, shouldn't break easily.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great crankset, November 14, 2011
By Richard Perry (California)
I love this crankset, it looks beautiful on my bike and works like wonders! My old one was worn out with chipped teeth and a bent sprocket. Totally satisfied.

This is idea for a commuter grinder like me. The price was great, it works well, and if I wear it out, I will buy another one.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent quality for the price, July 20, 2011

Go faster with the bigger chain rings. Very smooth operation but not recommended for single tracks and mtb trails with lots of uphill riding.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Picture Please, July 1, 2011
By pkdrdr
The crankset is great so far - no issues. However, I wish the picture matched the actual item. I wanted all black, and I chose this set, after specs and price, on the color. The crank arms in this listing are silver. Now, I admit that this detail is listed in the description, so I totally take the blame. Just be aware of that if you're shopping for all black.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  okay for $25, June 8, 2011
By Borello (USA)
It is okay for $25. It has some plastic parts to it, like the dirt guard on the outer casing. The color was different than the picture, being chrome on the cranks instead of black. I actually like the chrome better. Have not riden with it yet, but it looks like it will do just fine. No comment on how durable the teeth are. On a previous Shimano Altus (lower end), the some teeth chipped off. This would probably be the same, but for $25, it gets 3 stars. If the teeth hold up, I woud give it 4 stars, but no way to change the review after a few years.
