4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for the price!!!, August 14, 2010
By C. M. Getman (Portland, OR)
I have had this on my bike for almost a month and I really like it, so far! I'm trying to keep my bike as an inexpensive project, so this was the way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works Great!, July 1, 2010

Easy to install. Nearly silent when coasting. 17T helps a little on the hills over the 16T. Great Shimano product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Just as advertised, and QUIET!, March 7, 2012
By B. Ellis (Lexington, SC)
I ordered the 16T for a single-speed bike I have that's currently using a 20T...this will give me a little bit more speed after sacrificing a little comfort up hills. Overall I'm quite happy with how quiet it is compared to most freewheels, and of course it was easy to install. A simple purchase, of a simple item, that simply works. Two thumbs way up for Shimano on this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Quality Freewheel!, July 6, 2011
By Shrey
I bought this freewheel about two weeks ago for my fixwheel track bike and so far it is working great. The freewheel seems solid and it is very quite. It is a great product for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Works like it says, December 7, 2011

Good quality, sounds good. A little more back pedal friction than I would have liked, but that's why it's priced right where it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice and quiet, December 4, 2011
By Matt H
Got this in the mail yesterday to turn my road bike into a single speed and I have to say it's great. Much quieter than the five geared freewheel that was on my bike before and is quiet as can be coast. I am a happy guy with a single speed bike now.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works like a charm, May 27, 2011
By Jerelskii
I used this for my flip flop hub on my fixie just to try it out. It was fun and was quieter than most freewheels. Runs smooth and easy to install. Would purchase again and recommend to others looking for a reliable freewheel.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  No complaints, December 16, 2010
By The Handy Engineer (Minneapolis, MN)
Been working good so far! I ride 5 miles one way to work every day (winter as well), and the jump from 16 to 17 teeth really helped in the snow. Thinking about 18 actually, since there is so much more rolling resistance with winter tires... Anyway, I recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  SHIMANO, February 16, 2011
By JOBLESSNUSA
SHIMANO MAKES GOOD STUFF. THIS FREEWHEEL IS THE SMALLEST YOU CAN USE WITHOUT A FLIP-FLOP HUB.

YOU CAN RE-LUBE THESE BY SOAKING THEM IN HEAVY OIL OVER NIGHT. CLEAN FIRST.

I USE 16 TOOTH FREEWHEELS AND A 32-34 TOOTH CHAIN RING OR CHAIN WHEEL TO GET 2:1 GEARING.

THE PERFECT SET UP...

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Meh, December 2, 2011
By R. T. Oslin
I really want to my single speed to be "stealth" quite. So far that goal has eluded me, as when I pedal I get this hard to describe grinding/scratching noise, almost as if sand was in the drive train somewhere. I've tried just about everything, lubing the chain, lubing the freewheel (more on that in a bit), even replacing the chain with a 3/32 inch the better matches the teeth width of the default Shimano freewheel that came with my bike. Nothing worked, although lubing the freewheel helped a bit. That's what got me thinking that perhaps my freewheel was bad (I bought the bike used). So I picked up the same one but new (this one, MX30) from Amazon and installed it. Nope, same sandy noise when pedaling. Great (pretty quiet) when coasting mind you, which is why I gave it 3 stars vs. say 1 or 2 stars. Finally I bought a fixed gear cog (or whatever you call it) and flopped the wheel over. Hmmm. Much quieter, although not dead silent, meaning the freewheel was still only part of the problem; however I hate driving it in fixed gear as you can't coast (I know, I'm a pzzzzy) but I wanted to coast, so I finally broke down and bought the White Industries ENO Freewheel which has more paws (whatever that means) for better engagement. Anyway that made the bike ride much quieter (when not coasting, as when you coast the WI freewheel sounds like a buzz saw), but at least as quite as when I ran it fixed gear. Alas I still need to figure out what is present in my setup that is still causing noise, or sell the stupid bike and go belt driven...

Pros: QUITE when coasting.
Cons: Noisy when pedaling, like cheap parts inside or something
