Amazing! :), February 14, 2011

Being that this is Brooklyn-workshop's first product, they are giving them self a awesome image of build quality and customer service.
They give you all the tools and instructions you need to take apart, clean, and repair your skate cycle. If a part breaks or need replacing all you have to do is call there number on the instruction book.
The body is solid giving confidence that it would never break while in use. The only plastic is the outer casing; to basically make it look cool. :)
It does take some time to get used too, the video they uploaded on YouTube did help a lot! I do advise to wear protective gear for your first few times you practice. And NEVER go down a hill with it if you don't know how to stop, like i did.
Its cool if you have 150 to spend on a toy for adults and teens. :)

Great Quality, Hard To Learn, June 2, 2011

Definite learning curve. Unless you have ridden something similar, I'd expect to spend a couple hours minimum learning before you can move more than a couple feet. Very cool looking. Everyone will ask you what it is.

Not what I expected : (, November 12, 2011

The skatecycle is way too hard to ride. I can skateboard and snowboard pretty good and I've been trying to ride this thing for a month with no luck. It's practically impossible. The only good thing about it is the look. And if you happen to wreck, it's difficult to get you feet out and you get injured....bad. My advice would be to get a ripstik they are cheaper and easier to ride.

Snake Board 2.0, February 3, 2012
By Jo
|
|
This thing is great. I have been riding snake board more than 15 years ago. This thing is very similar, it took me less than 10 minutes to figure out how to propel it, another ten minutes to properly steer it. So I thought about why so many people complain about not being able to ride it. I guess it is about mechanics. Several reviewers have stated to be able to ride a ripstick but not the skate cycle. I tried a ripstick, compared to a snake board (and skate cycle) it is, let's say, "meta-stable", you have to make many small movements to control it. As the wheels are so tiny, these small movements are enough to propel a ripstick. Such little moves do not work with a snake board and also not with a skate cycle. These wheels are huge. You need large movements and good back muscles, it is about force and training. The information they provide in there web site is in fact pretty good. To make it clear: this is not a ripstick, you cannot ride it like a ripstick. Whoever loved the snake board will love the skate cycle. Yet I think there some things that could be improved. 1) The thing is pretty heavy, carbon instead of metal would make it lighter for sure. 2) There is no shock absorbing, it should be possible to add some absorber between the platform and the wheel. 3) I would love to have straps to fix the feet like it was on the old snake board. You can get more power into the device by doing so. 4) Make the wheels bigger and the bar longer. I have no idea how large you can build the wheels before it becomes impossible to propel it, but I think a bit bigger is still possible. Together with longer bar it would be possible to ride at higher speeds. Finally, again the statement this thing is simply cool. I have been waiting for a revival of the snake board with modern technologies. This is definitively snake board 2.0.

Amazing and built to last, January 17, 2012

I can easily say this has been the hardest board to learn to ride, but also has been the most satisfying to. I snowboard, skateboard, Ripstick, and many other things, but this is now easily my favorite to ride. It is worth every dollar and every drop of sweat going into learning to ride the skatecycle. If you snowboard or Ripstick you will be use to the tiresome learning curve and also know that it pays off in the end. Anyone that gives a product a bad review because they don't know how to use it is foolish. The Skatecycle is sexy, beautiful, strong, and my vision on the future. Good job Brooklyn Workshop! Also if anyone has problems learning to ride after buying it I have no problem trying to teach you. Contact me at https://twitter.com/Denver_Moscow

Great skate but hard to master, January 12, 2012
By djlucis

I stumbled upon the skatecycle webpage and fell in love with it. So I ordered one and got it shipped to Spain, since European dealer sold it for a much more expensive prize. When I got it, first thing that popped into my mind was that it was somehow smaller than I imagined. Also, lighter.
The skatecycle is robust and has a very good quality overall. However, I thought wheels would be thicker so as to make balancing easier. They were not, so managing not to fall can be challenging. With a 15-20 minute practice every day, I was able to "move on my own" by the end of the second week.
It is easy to carry and comes with every tool, in case you need to fix it or wish to customize it.
Also, the people at brooklynworkshop.com were very attentive and solved my every question before having it shipped.
I would buy more to give as presents, should the prize lower. It is beautifully designed, and I understand that costs more, but perhaps a 100$ prize would me more fitting.
In any case, it is a pretty cool skate to have!

The service stinks as much as their product!!!, January 15, 2012
By Yuriy

I got the scatecycle over vacation and couldnt ride it naturally i would think i need more practice. So i practice for a whole day - no progress. I call to the guys at Brooklyn Workshop and they tell me that they can demonstrate. I go all the way to them to find out that there is one guys sitting in the building and playing games on facebook, the guy has a twisted ankle and cant demonstrate (this was the guy i called to schedule a meeting time). Eventually he shows me how to ride it but he rides it like a cripple, it looks nothing like on their videos. So i go to return it but the tell me that i cant because on the bottom of the scatecycle there was a little scratch from me practicing on it, so instead of getting a full refund i got $100 refund and lost 4 hours of my life (not including the practice time). So if your 12 year old is bugging you to buy this thing show him this response.

This product looks cool and the video is deceiving. Very difficult to ride don't think my son has even been able to take a extended ride yet and he's an avid skate boarder. $150 gone to waste. Beware!!!!

Freerider skatecycle, January 15, 2012

This was suppose to be my 13 year old sons big Christmas gift. It ended up being impossible to ride. he is very good at ripsticks and skate boards but this was impossible to ride. We had a couple of other boys (different ages) try it out to see if they could make it work and they could not either! We looked up a video online to see what he could be doing wrong but it did not help. So we sent it back and still waiting for a refund.

Too expensive and not fun!!, January 9, 2012
By Seattlemom

My son, being very adept on a Ripstick, skate board, wake board, and snow board, saw this thing on Amazon and added it to his wish list. Got it for him for Christmas, and wish I could return it. When I inquired about that, response is that it can be returned for up to 50% refund if it's been used. I don't know how you could really decide if you like it without trying it, so heed this review as a warning. This thing is ridiculously difficult to learn from what I can tell. As I mentioned, my 13 (almost 14) year old son is quite adept at these types of things, and he has gotten frustrated to tears more than once since Christmas. He mastered his Ripstick at age 10 or 11 in one day. The Ripstick is the most closely related thing I can compare this freeskate to, but rather than the foot pedals just pivotting around the board's axis, this thing's foot plates additionally pivot side-to-side. Too many directions each foot plate can move, in my opion. I've watched my son continue try it each day. He makes slight progress, but it doesn't appear that even if he masters it, it is ever going to be able to get much speed, or ever be particularly fun. The only reason we are keeping it is because of the lame return terms - "up to" 50% refund if used is bogus. I paid $150 for this thing, which is outrageous compared to the $69 I paid for his Ripstick which is much more fun. Lesson learned I guess . . .

watch the 30 day return window..., November 2, 2011
By George Jhonstone
|
|
I bought the freerider skatecycle for my son's 14th birthday. He is an avid snowboarder and routinely uses skateboards and longboards, so I was surprised when he was unable to get it to work. Since I bought it for his birthday and then he tried to use it for a few weeks, by the time we tried to return it, we were past the 30 day return window by just a few days so Amazon would not take it back. They suggested I contact the manufacturer which I did. Brooklyn Workshop said that since they were a small company, they could not afford to take it back even though it was in perfect condition and said the best they could do was give me $50 which is what they would charge stores for a demo unit. Thanks alot... I guess my son will have to keep trying to get it to work since we are stuck with it now. Absolutely would NOT recommend.

I bought a Freerider Skaecycle throught by Brooklyn Workshop website. I am fully happy from that product. It's great fun and at beggining riding is really difficult, but after more practice everybody will enjoy this. Quality of skatecycle is very good. The best thing in Skatecycle is...probably only I (or few people)own this in my city and everybody looks and has no idea what is this, are suprised to see that perfectly designed and totally different ride!

Great Product, Great Community, January 12, 2012
By Anthony Marini

I first started at looking at an alternative form of transportation when my blade board was at the end of its life. I thought about getting a ripstik or a waveboard, but finally settled on getting a skatecycle. I really liked the concept of the device and thought that I would give it a try.
PROS: Extremely fun Well built Unique
CONS: More expensive More difficult to learn
Ok now that that is said, lets go over the cons. The skatecycle is definitely more expensive then buying an alternative. Also, coming from a casterboard background, I found it more difficult to learn because the propulsion mechanics are different. I think that most people, including myself, buy this because it looks like it would be the same as a casterboard. It is not. However, that being said this is a good alternative. It will just take you a little longer to learn. I suggest looking at the videos online and seeing how to board works, as well as some of the cool things that you can do with it.

Amazing!, January 12, 2012

I used to ride a waveboard until I got one of these babies in the mail and I was blown away! It took a few days to get the hang of it, but after that it has been nonstop fun. It has a very smooth ride and is sure to make an impression. I get stopped all the time by people asking about what it is or where to get one. Not only is it a fun thing to ride it is also a fairly decent workout. I've ridden skateboards and castorboards, once I rode this I greatly saw an improvement in muscle strength when compared to the other two. I had thighs of steel after riding this bad boy for about an hour. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to experience a new and amazing style of riding. You will not regret it.
