For years, the mud-shedding debate raged, "Time. No, ShimanoAAA" that is until Crankbrothers introduced their Eggbeater. There are no pedals that work better than these in the slop. The Crankbrothers Eggbeater 3 Pedals are the newest version of their workhorse Eggbeater SL. Like the older SL, the Eggbeater 3 employs investment cast stainless steel for the main parts of the pedals -- the body and wings. These stainless parts are made to exacting tolerances for optimum performance and they'll never rust! In a change from the SL, the spindle is now forged from super-strong chromoly steel, meaning that anyone can use these as there's no weight limit. Eggbeaters are also some of the easiest-to-use clipless pedal systems around. Thanks to the four-sided wing of the Eggbeater, it's literally impossible to not clip in with lightning quickness as soon as the bottom of your shoe hits the pedal. The Eggbeater wing rotates either forward or backward under the pressure of your foot to quickly and smoothly engage the cleat bolted to the sole of your shoe. The brass cleats for the Crankbrothers Eggbeater 3 Pedals are small so they recess flush with the tread on the bottom of your shoes for easy walking. They're also designed for two release angles -- 15AA or 20AA. The release angle depends on which cleat you bolt to which shoe. Crankbrothers recommends the 15AA setting if you're new to clipless. Otherwise, the 20AA configuration will give you greater mobility on the bike without the worry of an accidental release. Needle and cartridge bearings will keep the Eggbeater 3 Pedals spinning smoothly -- a great improvement from the old bushings. And when the time comes for an overhaul, keep in mind that nobody else's pedals are as easy to service as Crankbrothers' pedals are. Shims to protect your shoes are included as well as all the hardware you'll need for installation.

replace my Shimano PD-A530 with this eggbreater 3. At first and second ride, clipping in feels harder than SPD but release is lot easier and quicker. after more ride i was getting use to it. overall, I Love it!
Update 5/9/2012 The pedal hold up excellent after 3,000+ miles on them. Believe it or not? I am getting a new set for my new road bike. Just getting into road bike this year so, I have to buy a pedal and after I try these road shoes, I design I go with MTB shoe instead. First I already have a expensive MTB shoe, second I getting use to the egg beater. and the last they are so light and looking cool :) I have about 300 miles on my new egg beater on the road bike and they just feel great!

Great so far...., June 23, 2011

I've been riding my road bike for about a year, and it did come with clipless pedals. However, when I first tried to learn to use them when I initially got my bike it was a disaster. I crashed badly twice without even getting my second foot clipped in, and after that I decided that it was useless and I pretty much gave up. I've been riding my bike more and more but I'd been using platform pedals, and my bf had been leaving me in the dust as soon as we got to any hills.... I just got the crank brothers eggbeater 3s about a week ago and they have been awesome! Super easy to clip in and out of. It was pretty much an immediate transition for me, and so far so good.
We ride about 17-18 miles a couple times a week and I haven't crashed or had any trouble so far with clipping into these pedals. Even clipping in going uphill is easy. I'm so happy to finally be riding my bike on good pedals, it makes it so much easier and much more fun. These are awesome easy pedals for road bikes, get them if you are on the fence, you won't be sorry....

I purchased this pedals to replace wellgo clipless pedals. The wellgo performed well for about two years but attach/detach from pedals was difficult, specially in mudy conditions. This pedals are great and is easy to attach and detach from pedal.

Great Pedals, September 21, 2011

I have these pedals on my Trek Paragon and I love them. They take a little getting used to but once you have used them for a couple weeks, clipping back in is a thoughtless process. So far no issues. To date I probably have 600 miles on these pedals. I would definitely recommend these pedals to someone else. I plan to upgrade to a better set of these egg beaters in the future.

I used Hybrid pedals. I am very happy with my new Egg Beaters, because they helped to make my bike lighter and they are very easy to release, avoiding falls.

Road-bike rated, July 6, 2011

Although these are typically marketed as mountain bike pedals, I use them on my road and touring bikes because I like the additional float that I can get, which helps alleviate knee problems. They're easy to get into and out of, and I'm glad to see that they now have a more beefy warranty. The only issue I have is that the cleats still stick out of my cross-shoes and I've wondered several times if I'm going to end up in a heap on the floor when walking on linoleum. This is further aggravated by the spacers I use to stop the pedal wings from rubbing at my carbon soles when I click in and out. But, I still think they are a great product, and have them on all four of my bikes (road, tour, mountain, hybrid).

Minimalism doesn't get much better, May 20, 2012
By Yoshmann (San Diego, CA)

I upgraded to the Eggbeaters from Candy 2's, and while there isn't a LOT of difference between them, their differences are enough to be appreciated. While the Candies are basically an Eggbeater with a wing platform around them, I don't find that I miss the platform at all now. The Eggbeaters are even more minimalist than the Candies and should shed mud/grit even easier. They're a tiny bit lighter, but I'm not really concerned about that. Getting in and out of the Eggbeaters is about the same as with my old Candies, but since I installed the shim this time, they're even easier now.
My only complaints: the left cleat is malformed and allows a bit of vertical play that is felt whilst pulling on the up-stroke. Also, the anodizing on the spring is a nice deep red, but the anodizing on the dust caps is more of a raspberry color. Not a big deal, but noticeable.
Aside from those two details, I love these pedals.

good, but...., March 13, 2012

These were pretty tricky to clip into at first. The shim they provided to raise the cleat off the shoe was not thick enough, so the pedal couldn't reach the cleat without a lot of down-force. You have to get this shim thickness just right so that you can clip in easily, but without so much play that it causes wobble. You can either trim the tread on your shoe or shim the cleat. I made a shim from thin sheet aluminum. Now, they are awesome!

Does it's job well, January 15, 2012

I'm still new to the clipless pedal scene, so I've fallen quite a bit on my mountain bike so far. The clips are a little stiff to get into with new cleats, but I guess the cleats have to wear in a little. When I need to unclip, I can do it fast. The only thing I don't like is not knowing when you're clipped in, because there is no audible click or anything to really indicate if your in or not. You can tell just by pedaling, but it would be nice if you could hear it immediately.

Rusted, February 26, 2012

When I open the box, I found a rusted pedal. It must be a design fault. I doubt how long it will last.
