Product Description:

Today is an incredible day and a great day to ride. The Marin County back roads are legendary for their beauty and incredible scenic diversity. This ride will take advantage of the day and of the place. We will wind along the back roads through carved valleys, steep climbs, forests, lakes, ocean villages and along Tamales Bay.

Be prepared for tough efforts over hills and on the wheels of fresh legs! This video is over 3 hours split into 2 DVDs. If you have the fortitude to tackle both DVDs in one session, you are a true cycling warrior! Your roadie friends will question how you managed to improve over the winter versus decline and get fat. This is an ideal workout to strengthen almost all aspects of cycling including long tough grinds, paceline efforts, intervals for weight loss and long high anaerobic efforts. Have a blast!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Love at first ride!, March 18, 2011
By ArcheryNut
Although I've just purchased these videos, I love them already! I actually look forward to my indoor rides for the first time ever. They are unlike the typical spin class videos I've used, which is exactly what I was hoping when I purchased these. This ride has a nice mix of California terrain, including some steep climbs. I prefer the option of hearing the narrative which has some training and endurance tips (narrative and music can be turned off). I also started using a heart rate monitor, which allows me to really push my limits, especially when climbing. The on-screen data is nicely done, although I find myself almost exclusively watching the heart rate, cadence and spin resistance fields. Soon I'll be adding a cadence sensor to my spin bike as I'd like to increase my average rpm a bit. Having both a heart rate and cadence monitor will help me get the most out of these rides.

I had some questions and contacted the video's creator Paul Gallas. Paul was quick to respond and very willing to answer numerous questions, which I sincerely appreciate.

I'm not a racer, just an average guy that enjoys cycling to help stay in shape (both physically and mentally). I expect these videos to keep me from getting bored with indoor training and I'm confident they'll help make me a stronger cyclist. I look forward to purchasing several more of these videos in the future. I recommend them to anyone...whether you're a racer or a recreational rider fighting the boredom of indoor riding. Be sure to check out the demo clips available on their website too.

The dashboard makes these videos completely unique. The dash provides real time information to dial in your workout including cadence, heart rate and resistance. Plus other features of the dash keeps the video interesting, informative and a lot of fun! This is a short video that teaches you the components of the dash and how to use it. Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Pretty realistc, January 5, 2012
By Ryan C. Parker
I've really enjoyed these videos. While the filming itself is a bit amateurish, the overall experience is fun. I used to ride this route in "real life" when I lived in SF so it's nice to recreate a bit of the experience inside in WA. Overall, definitely recommended - whether you have a spin bike or trainer.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Awesome indoor workout!, January 2, 2012
By S.W. Richards (Burlington, Vermont United States)
This DVD has really changed the way I look at indoor workouts. I have found that most indoor training routines are accompanied with boredom and the desire to "get it over with". It's a pretty long off season for cycling here in Vermont and I need something to keep in shape and prepare for the spring. Not only is the route and scenery through Marin County incredible, but Paul's narration and coaching at the many climbs help motivate me to stay on the bike much longer, providing a much better workout. I am always amazed that 90 minutes have passed and I'm at the end of the first DVD. I can't say enough about this DVD and the very user friendly "dashboard", which provides a fantastic visual of the cadence, heart rate, power, and even the proper gear and chainring necessary for the optimal resistance and workout. The many tools available on the screen, along with Paul's excellent coaching help to keep the heart pumping hard and legs cranking where I otherwise might just spin along passing the time.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  nice view of bike cable, December 31, 2011
By Jet
I can't believe I dropped 30 bucks to watch this guy's brake cable travel the roads of Marin. A little duct tape would have held it out of the camera's view! If it weren't for that I would be much happier with the product.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Must be friends of the producer that loved this, December 1, 2011
By bigdogtigdog (Colorado, USA)
I must say that these DVDs were a big disappointment. Awful footage, low quality, annoying music. You can't turn off the music and hear the coach. I also bought one where they're in Alaska. Amazon kindly took them back. I don't know who wrote all those 5 star reviews. Awful. The Real Rides DVDs are WAY better.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The Best Cycling Video Ever For Reaching My Workout Goals!, February 16, 2012
By Bold Consumer (USA)
Remember to take water with you. You're going to need it!

The CyclingVideosOnline training videos can't be beat for my personal training purposes! I'm dangerous on a real-life road, so virtual cycling is ideal for me. I probably have dozens of different kinds of cycling, running, hiking, and walking videos that I use to encourage and motivate me to stay fit. I get good use out of all of them, alternating between them so I won't get bored, but NONE of them are any better than these. Good locations, friendly and helpful narrative, and online tools to switch things up for a good workout. I love that I can change the resistance on my exercise machine, in my case alternating between elliptical, stationary bike, spinning bike, and/or treadmill. I prefer my fancy elliptical because it makes it easy to change the resistance during a tough ride. That one factor, changing the resistance while keeping up the cadence as Paul reminds us throughout the ride, makes it the workout that I want and need. That's the short story. It's obvious that I love this set.

The description of Training to Endure! The Bay Area Backroads, Marin County, California got my attention. I naively ignored the "Endure" part and focused on a beautiful part of the country that I would love to revisit, virtual or otherwise. I told myself I would just have a `light' workout and enjoy the view.

Disk 1: That 'light' workout didn't happen! Paul Gallas kept us so busy changing gears, in my case moving the resistance up and down, keeping up our cadence, and watching our heart rate, that 1:33 minutes later I was drenched with sweat and didn't remember a thing about the view. There are several DVD options. I just left it as it came on, with narrative and music. The narrative makes the ride much more pleasant. I don't feel like I'm alone out there. It also keeps me going because I would be embarrassed to quit early on the trip. The music did help with the cadence, although I couldn't tell you anything about the music. I was too busy trying to keep up!

I decided to leave the rest of the trip, Disk 2, for the next day.

Disk 2: The next day I had all sorts of excuses not to go back up to the gym, but I just had to finish that trip. I forgot to check how long Disk 2 was and assumed it was much shorter and easier. No problem! I should have checked, but I'm glad I didn't. I wasn't up for another tough 1:33-hour ride until I got started, but then momentum kicked in and I was in it to finish. There was nothing easy about it. I should have remembered to take water with me for the trip.

Then at one point when I thought we were about finished, Paul mentioned that we had another hour to go! Even though I had planned to have a short, easy workout day, I wasn't about to stop early, so I stayed in there and finished.

What a great feeling of accomplishment at the end!

I'm so glad that I can get this kind of motivation to keep going and not take the easy way out. I'm meeting my fitness goals and feeling very good about myself while doing it.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Biking for Life, January 23, 2012
By Richard
I hold you folks completely responsible for my biking addiction.

I am a 66 year old criminal defense attorney and Law Professor in the Chicago Metropolitan area. Though we don't have any mountains (and only a few hills) we do have some impressive-for-the-area Rails to Trails pathways, but lousy weather winters. However, I have a son who has a mountain guide ,skiing, climbing business in Durango, Colorado (Klingmountainguides.com) whom I try to visit at least a couple of time /year. His wife is the HR person at Durango Purgatory Ski Resort. Of passing interest is that when my son Josh, now 30, was 15 he and a group of kids biked from Virginia to Los Angeles which is where we discovered Durango en route.

Through a number of trips to Durango and surrounding areas I began looking on line for biking videos in the region and found you folks. The rest is history. I have either purchased or been given as presents "Indian to Girdwood," "Evergreen to Red Rocks," "E Rock Rocks," "Training to Climb, Rattlesnake Bite," "Laying Down the Hammer," "Training to Endure, Front Range...." and "Bay Area Backroads." I assure you my orders for the rest of your Colorado and the High Country videos are only a paycheck away.

I hold you completely responsible for my significant diversion from work and family, spending extra money for the videos, not to mention phenomenally better emotional and physical health and outlook and enjoyment of life in an otherwise flat topographically boring environment. I really appreciate your attention to detail, especially enjoy the narrated videos, and look forward to a long relationship. Have a great year.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Makes spinning fun., January 17, 2012
By JohnnyT (Big Bear Lake, CA, USA)
I'm not a roadie, but I needed a way to stay in shape while snow blankets the MTB trails up here in Big Bear Lake. I found indoor spinning boring, but Paul's DVDs makes it entertaining and very beneficial. I like his coaching and encouragement, as well as all the on-screen stats. The music is a bit "night-club", but I've actually grown to appreciate how it pumps me up to press on. This ride is split into 2 DVDs and I've found completing just one in a single session, at the effort levels on the screen, is a real workout. This is my first purchase in his series, and the only trouble I'm having now is to decide which one to buy next!
