This works great, June 1, 2010

This crank puller worked great in removing the crank arms on my Schwinn exercise bike. If you've never used one before, please follow the package instructions closely. It can be tedious to get it threaded in the first time.
I found it easiest to unscrew the handle/pin from the threaded collar before screwing the collar into the crank arm. After I mounted the collar, I screwed the handle/pin piece back in the collar and spun it down till the pin made contact with the shaft. I turned it slow from that point and the crank arm came off fairly easily. If you are using this with a road bike, be sure to clean the threads on the crank arm before screwing the collar in. The dustcap doesn't keep all the dirt out and dirt can make it difficult to screw the puller in all the way.
Beware... Don't cross-thread the collar when screwing it in and make sure to screw it all the way till it bottoms out in the crank arm socket. If you cross-thread it, you likely will not be able to use it a second time on that crank arm without it stripping the threads. Not threading it in all the way could result in stripped threads too. Repairs get much tougher if you have to hacksaw things! It's a simple process, just go slow on getting it screwed in correctly.
When remounting the crank arms, it's best to use a torque wrench to tighten them properly. There are many YouTube videos on removing the cranks on a bike. Check them out for a good look at how this tool works. You might try "How to remove a crank arm from your bicycle square taper" in YouTube's search box.

Great Tool, Easy to use., October 13, 2010
By RRH

While fixing a stationary bike I had to remove the cranks on both sides of the bike to remove the front cover. I was extremely naive at thinking on removing them by force (that when nowhere). I then ordered this tool, got it out of the package, a quick 15 secs look/reading at the instruction on the back of the package, put the tool to use and less than a minute later both cranks had been removed. Extremely easy to use, this is the right tool for the job

Works, but missing socket wrench, August 28, 2011
By Abdon Gonzalez (Misawa Japan)

This is a one-trick pony for a show that requires two tricks.
Before you can pull that crank arm, you have to remove the bolt. You will either need a 14~15mm socket rench or an allen wrench. Because of that the whole reasoning of not needing a second tool to turn the tool is mooth. Heck, even my compact (non Park Tool) crank arm puller had the integrated socket wrench.
If your aim is a perfect score on your collection of Park Tool goodies --I tried but I have too many non Park Tool tools :'(-- this is a good tool. A superior one is the IceToolz with integrated 14mm and 15mm socket adapter, and allen head IceToolz Crank Puller with Handle & 14, 15 mm Adapter. That one tool is cheaper and will handle the whole process, regardless of what type of bolt you got there.

Any avid biker should have this., January 18, 2011

Recently I was pulling apart an old mountain bike and this was one of the tools I needed. Because I didn't care about the old mountain bike I tried using a usual hammer and it only worked for one side. It also messed up the crank a little and I would never do it with a bike you actually care about. I used this tool and got the crank off in a matter of seconds. It's worth the handle rather than using two wrenches also.

Good Tool - Works Great, December 30, 2009

Park Tools are the 'Cadillac' of bicycle tools, and the Crank Puller for Square Taper Cranks is no exception. The handle is sufficiently long, padded, and strong enough to remove stubborn cranks. It was lubricated with some light oil when I received it. The oil will come off through use, but it's simple enough to add a little "3-IN-ONE" brand oil or something similar. If you're going to work on your bicycle yourself, it's definitely worth buying this tool.

Does What It's Supposed to Do, October 15, 2011

I've got a whole bucket of Park Tools for my bikes. This thing works like a champ. Square taper cranks are a pain in the butt to get off and you really can't do it without one of these guys. Get one and use it. You won't be disappointed. Saved me a whole lot of headache.

I needed to replace the crankset on my bike. This tool made removing the old crankset very easy. Just make sure the tool is fully threaded into the crank before attempting crank removal.

Simply put, it works. Period., October 15, 2011

I don't know what people expect, or why they're buying it if they could be dissapointed. It's too darned simple to screw up: you thread it in, thread it out, and your crank comes off. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, in exactly the way it is supposed to be done. Too simple. Perfect!

Works as expected, September 21, 2011
By kris

Before you start using it, make sure you have a wrench that you can use to torque
the large nut from the puller into the crank arm. I am stressing again, tighten it to
the max before you start using the crank puller middle pin to push the arm off the
axle. If you do not get it tight enough, you will strip the thread off that aluminum
crank arm. If that happens, you will need to cut the crank arm apart with a cutting tool
and chisel.
Save yourselves the aggravation and do it right.

just what I needed., August 19, 2011

This is the only way to remove crank arms. This tool fits the Sugino crank-set for bottom bracket maintenance on my 1980 Schwinn Super Le Tour. Nice piece, easy to use. Just like the other reviewers say; Make sure you thread it all the way into the crank before trying to press-off the arm. This way you eliminate the possibility of damaging the threads inside the arm.

Just make sure to thread the bigger part into the aluminum crank arm fully so you don't strip out the threads on your aluminum crank arm, and it works perfectly!

I had the CCP-2 crank puller which I had a problem with. The CCP-22 is the new improved version. Park Tool replaced my defective CCP-2 with no hassle. A company's warranty is only as good as the company. Kudos to Park Tool for being a GREAT company. I rate them A+.

Another great Park Tool, August 8, 2011
By phillyhouse (Moosup, CT)

This tool works great, and is a must-have for a DIY bike maintainer. Be sure to check which type of cranks you have before buying this puller, as there are a couple of different types and each type has it's own tool. (I have a "square" type but there is also a "star" type I believe... Park Tools' website will tell you which type you need.) Safely removes the cranks with no damage.

Worked exactly like I needed!, July 27, 2011

I am not a bike mechanic nor claim to be, but my curiosity led to me disassembling my 80's road bike and reassembling it. I got stuck on removing the crank and found this on Amazon. Bought it with Amazon Prime and two days later I was up and running again on my bike disassembly. I'm a fairly athletic guy but was not able to get the right leverage on my own. Once I used this, it was a piece of cake and did not require a large amount of exertion to remove the crank.
It feels sturdy in the hand and looked clean and precise as well. I highly recommend this tool to anyone who is undertaking a similar project to mine or anyone who works on bikes frequently. Although I would assume any of you regulars already own this item because it really is a no-brainer to have it in your toolbox.

I have a stationary recumbent exercise bike that I was trying to work on and the tool from Schwinn was going to run around $30.00 (that is if they would have had one in stock), I found this tool on Amazon and it worked great. It seems to be very well made. I'm sure it will outlast my exercise bike.

Great tool, December 12, 2011
By PerryP

I don't know if this tool is better than others. I know it is not as versatile as others were advertised to be. I also know that this tool does a very good job pulling cranks. In about two minutes I had the cranks off of my bike after trying all sorts of creative methods that failed. Even if only used once, this tool is well worth having.

As with most of Park Tool's line, this does it's job perfectly. My cranks came out easily with this puller, the quality of the tool is top-notch as usual, and, strangely for Park Tool, I feel like the price is more than reasonable.
This is a winner.

I didn't realize before removing my pedals that you need a special tool like this. Well, you pretty much do. This works great, though I recommend you watch a video on how to use it first - it will save you some head scratching since it is not readily obvious, but totally makes sense once you figure it out.

Works, but hard to use, September 21, 2009
By William J. Kelly

This tool works and it's nice to not have to have a socket and wrench like some other crank pullers out there but I would have preferred if it did so I could have the longer, wider handle of my 1/2" wrench, this one was a bit narrow and rough on the hands.

This does the job.And does it well. Also, when removing a crank, it is good to use some penetrating oil, back off now and then, and exert the torque slowly and evenly so as not to break the handle off.

Handle not long enough for tough cranks, March 20, 2012
By origin415
|
|
Seems to be well built and should do the job in simpler cases, but would not budge when I tried to pry off a 20 year old crank. In retrospect, I wish I had ordered the "compact" crank puller offered by Park, and then I could use a much bigger wrench. That is how the bike shop got it off, anyway. You'll need a large wrench with this anyway to operate the collar, so the built in handle doesn't save you anything.
