5.0 out of 5 stars.  Outstanding trainer, October 5, 2009
By ontwowheels (Newport News, VA)
Tried the rear wheel trainer one year, then the Lemond stationary bike and did not enjoy either one. The Cycle-Ops trainer is great! It emulates real world biking better than my first two choices. As advised, it takes some practice to master the rollers, but has done a great job forcing ecomony of movement and smooth steady pedal strokes. I look forward to riding now when I can't get out on the road...

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Great roller but you could easily get it at much cheaper price, January 4, 2010
By XMD (St. Louis, MO USA)
The rollers is great because it is different from using a stationary bike. You have to keep up with the balance and that takes away the boredom of regular exercise bike. You could also improve your shifting technique while working on the rollers. Shifting to low versus high gears also let you control the way you would like to expend your energy by employing a higher power versus a higher speed exercise mode. However, I got essentially the same roller at less than half the price at Performance bike shop (online order). In fact, I managed to get two with slight differences, one at somewhere $109 and the other at $129. I gave it two stars simply because the price is way too high for such a simple equipment. Tips for using it include: set up a stool next to you at the right place to catch your fall; 2) if you do fall, don't panic, don't fight against the fall; 3) as a starter, set up the roller halfway at the doorway such that your body is sort of between the door frame. This also assists you to start up your bike much easier. My wife and I have lots of fun with it for years.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  No surprises... works as advertised., February 5, 2010
By sethat (St. Louis, MO USA)
The rollers were delivered by forCycling in a timely manner. This is my first set of rollers, and I have never used a trainer, so I don't have other equipment to compare this too. I bought these to use during the winter, because I thought it would be more interesting than using a treadmill, and I would get to use my new road bike year around. I think the reviews are pretty accurate as to the quality of these rollers. Rollers are fairly expensive. Given the price point of the cycleops, I think these are an excellent value for someone who would like a folding set of rollers, or maybe a person who is a casual rider trying to get some spin time in during inclement weather (which happens to be about 1/2 of the year in the midwest, unfortunately). I was worried about them supporting my weight, as I am a larger guy, but they do a great job, and are smooth to ride on once you get the hang of it. If I was a serious rider, I would have probably chosen a more expensive set.

For those of you that are wondering if you can ride rollers, videos online make it look easy. When I first started out, it was harder than I thought it would be. I learned fairly quickly by putting the rollers in a door frame. by the third time I used them, I moved them out of the door frame and next to a wall. I'm still using them against this wall, as it is difficult to get started without some sort of support. It really is great exercise, probably even better strength and aerobic exercise than riding outside since you have to use more upper body strength to balance the non-moving bike, and you have to constantly pedal to keep the wheels spinning. If you have a bike and hate running on treadmills, then this is worth a shot.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Home Cycle trainer!, March 11, 2009
By Archie Archer (Garden Grove, CA)
I bought this unit and the sold separately front fork stand. So I do not know how the unit works without the front fork stand. That being said, the unit works great, although too pricey, it works for me because I needed to conserve space. When my mountain bike is not attached the unit folds up nicely or just hangs in my garage, unfortunately where it has spent most of it's time. The unit is stable and sturdy, although don't lean over to far while on this unit. I would have given it a 4 star rating, but it's too pricey and I cannot figure out how to get the tension component working (with instructions). When I say tension component I am referring to the mechanism that supposed the tighten the rolling pin to increase friction for the tire. I think some part was missing in the shipped package. Fortunately for me it provides a quite a workout with out that tighteing mechanism. Overall, this unit is good.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great workout!, January 10, 2010
By E. Walters
After the reading other reviews on trainers and rollers, I decided that the rollers would be more enjoyable to use. The rollers arrived assembled and easy to adjust to my bike. I started in a doorway with regular tennis shoes. The first 5 -10 minutes were scary. I thought there was no way I was going to be able to stay on. Then, I started to worry less about falling off and peddled faster and felt much more comfortable. After about 15 minutes I moved the rollers and bike into a hallway and used my cleats and had a great workout. I figure I would stay in the hallway one more time before I graduate to an open room. Build quality seems good and I expect long term reliability.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good roller, forget the resistance, January 20, 2011
By TechGuy (Greater Denver Area)
I have had the rollers for a couple of weeks. they are great, although takes a lot more concentration to stay on them and centetred than I expected. The resistance unit is worthless in my opinion, or the unit I have on mine is broken. I would buy the rollers again but not waste the extra money for the resistance that doesn't seem to do anything.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  CycleOps Aluminum Roller Indoor Trainer with Resistance, December 26, 2009
By A. Kozmel (Chicago, IL)
These rollers are great. One of the chief complaints I have of the regular trainers (as with stationary bikes), is that they tend to get boring after riding for a short while. Since this unit requires more concentration to maintain your balance (which takes a bit of practice and maybe a few sessions), it makes the workout a lot more fun and engaging. Plus, I really like the idea of being able to put my bike to good use during the winter months. This unit also takes up very little space, and doesn't require any alterations to the bike (I've even managed to keep my seat at the same height).

At this point, I haven't had a chance to use the resistance feature, as the gears on my bike are providing enough of a workout for me. I'd suggest trying out the version without the resistance add-on first, then order the resistance unit separately if you feel you need it (price-wise, it seems they charge nearly the exact same amount for the resistance unit whether you buy it separately, or with the trainer).

The only real drawback thus far is that the trainer is a bit pricey. However, it seems extremely well-built, and durable. Oh, another plus is that it's made in the USA!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Outstanding Customer Service from Manufacturer, September 29, 2010
By Franklin Parker Celico (Dillon, CO, US)
I bought a set of these cheap/used. One roller had a noticeable vibration, buzz and bit of a rough ride. I contacted the manufacturer of these rollers, which is Sportscrafters - not CycleOps. I told them I bought a used and apparenlty broken version of their product that is branded Cyclops and they sent me a replacement drum free without any shipping charge and they threw in a free drive elastic band! Incredible service. They said this is their policy - fix it free for the life of the product regardless of how many owners there have been! If I ever need to buy another set I'd buy them directly from Sportscrafters, Google them, they sell the exact same version as sold by CyclOps because they make them for Cyclops. By the way, these rollers are great!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The Cycleops Rocks!, April 10, 2010
By G. G. Mason (Aspen, CO)
I was looking for an indoor trainer that would be simple to set up and use and the Cycleops is perfect. It needs very little space, takes no time at all to set up and you don't have to do anything to your bike to use it. It takes a little practice to get going but if you can ride a bike, you can ride rollers! I have mine set up between my bed and the wall so getting started is easier. The Cycleops is the best indoor fitness item I've ever purchased.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  CycleOps Aluminum Rollers with resistance, April 10, 2011
By C. E. Peirce (Phoenix, AZ United States)
I recently parched the CycleOps Rollers with resistance. I have owed and ridden on rollers over several years, this is the first time I have owned CycleOps Rollers. The rollers themselves seem well engineered, used quality material and intended last, (pervious rollers I have owed have lasted over ten years of moderately consistent use). I believe the CycleOps rollers are quality if pricy, but we will have to see.
Now the resistance unit is a different case. I am surprised and disappointed in the resistance unit. This part of the solution has what I perceive to be several problems. It seems poorly designed, poorly engineered and inexpensively built. It uses a plastic knob as a type of gear against a metal rod and springs. This leads to very violent adjustment and impacts the installation setup. The current implementation for installation and calibration of the resistance unit is inadequate. Selection of the resistance level is abrupt enough to knock the unit out of alignment. The instructions for configuration and calibration of the resistance unit underscore its challenges. The instructions do not provide sufficient detail to know what a properly set-up implementation looks and operates like. Overall I have much higher expectation for this price. Overall this rating should only apply to the rollers with the resistance unit. It also reflects my concern with the quality and usability of the resistance unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  excellent, February 24, 2012
By reviewinator
Made in the USA, sturdy, quite, folds up for storage, life time warranty, and is $100 dollars cheaper than its competitor. What are you waiting for "get on your bikes and ride". The balancing learning curve is about two or three sessions, then you should have no problems riding non stop(without putting your foot down or holding the wall).

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great quality roller with great service, April 2, 2012
By Jacob Dinsdale (SLC, UT)
I've had my rollers for two years now and love the quality workouts I get when I can't take my bike on the road. After a recent move I lost a small part on the rollers and called to order another this morning. They said it was covered free under their lifetime warranty. Needless to say I'm very happy.
