Hill Climbing Sub, March 11, 2010
By Tim
|
|
Bought this cassette in anticipation of some sustained climbs. Normally have a 11-25 Dura Ace cassette but saved some money by going with Ultegra. Only a few grams heavier but offered the 28 cog to get me easily up the steep pitches. Shifted fine as you would expect.

Good upgrade, February 3, 2011

I was suffering on the uphills against my friends that had a compact set at the front chainrings.
I upgraded from a 25 to this cassette which made a difference for the uphill parts of the terrain. Also, the 11 is nice when going downhill.
Good compromise overall.

Best all around value, February 18, 2011

I bought this to replace my SRAM red cog after using a chain for too long and wearing it out. The weight difference is negligible and it actually shifts better IMO. I used to think all te components needed to be the lightest, but man it's expensive to think that way!! You can't beat the price either, locally in Miami thiis sells for $110 and the SRAM for $230 so this was a natural choice for me. Buy this instead of SRAM red or dura ace. Oh and a Amazon is the bomb!

Shimano CS-6700 Ultegra 11/28 Freewheel Cassette, June 12, 2011
By Serious Cyclist
|
|
After purchasing a set of training wheels for a new bike, I wanted a quality cassette closely matching the Shimano Dura Ace cassette that came with the wheel set on the bike, but something more affordable. The CS- 6700 Ultegra Cassette purchased through Amazon, at a very competive price, has been highly satisfactory - giving the same smooth shifting I get with the Dura Ace components I have. I would highly recommend this cassette to anybody wanting a quality Shimano component at a reasonable price, with this range of sprockets.

This is a review for the 11/28 cassette....It's a very good cassette, very quite and changes without any skipping or noise the 28 tooth helps me up some mountain roads and the 11 tooth gets me down the other side fast, all in all a very good cassette.

Ultegra 6700 12-28 Cassette, April 8, 2012
By Long-rider (Sacramento, Ca. United States)

By taking the aluminum spidered gears off of an 11-28, and putting them on a 12-25, you get an excellent 12-28 and an absolutely stock 11-25. The 12-28 avoids the 15-17T gap by supplying the missing 16T. What you give up is an absolutely worthless 11T.
The middle gears in Shimano 6700 cassettes are missing almost half of the normal spline engagements, which are cut away, and are therefore likely to tear through any alloy freehub body's splines. Since Ultegra hubs have a (heavy) steel freehub body, it's not an issue for an all 6700 drivetrain, but the weight penalty is substantial. I assume this is to force performance minded riders to buy DuraAce hubs and cassettes.
By dropping the work-horse 12-27, removing so many spline engagements, and going with a steel freehub body, Shimano has effectively crippled their Ultegra drivetrain.
For DuraAce prices, I'll go with Chris King hubs, and SRAM cassettes. I'm really sick of Shimano pushing me into choices I don't want, or like, such as tinting their components so once you buy one "ice gray" component, nothing matches. Since Ultegra are made in Taiwan, I'd rather just buy SRAM or Token.

Quality Ultegra cassette, April 27, 2011

This cassette shifts smoothly when matched with Ultegra components and the 11/28t is versatile and helps with hills for those who prefer a standard crankset.

ultegra cassette 11-28, August 21, 2011
By Martin R. Quinones

I bought this one to replace a 11-23 ultegra on my road bike (with 53/39 crankset). The diference going up hills is from here to heaven. Before this I used to walk on the long hills( I ride on stn mtn,ga). Last week I went on a 30 miles trip on grayson GA (most on hills) and I didn't stop on any hill. I been surprised my self with the change.

I am not satisfied with my purchase because i asked a Shimano CS-6700 Ultegra Bicycle Cassette (10-Speed, 11/23T) and i received a shimano ultegra 6600 12-23 what is not the one i asked, besides the product did not come in the original box.
i was expecting to gift this product but in this condition it was impossible.

Is there another choice?, December 7, 2011
By Sandy D. Scott (Seminole, FL USA)

I am an avid cyclist/racer and although I have used Dura-ace cassettes simply because they came as original equipment on some bikes that I have obtained, I always replaced those with Ultegra 6700 cassettes when the original equipment needed replacement. They are considerably less expensive and work flawlessly. I have also gotten almost 10,000 miles out of them. Here in the flatlands of Florida, my choice is always the 11-23 model.

It's nice to have that 28, August 23, 2011

I thought a 28 cog cassette might be a bit much but it came in very handy on last weekend's 90 mile ride on some pretty hilly terrain. I was able to climb in the 39 tooth front ring easily with it and with the long cage rear derailleur, it worked very well. I have a triple on the front so unless you're in the rockies you might see a 30-28 ratio a bit of overkill but not for me (flatlander). It would probaly work great with a compact crankset (50-34) and practically eliminate (make obsolete the 53-39-30) the need for the triple front rings.

Light, durable, looks good, June 30, 2011

I use this together with my 53/39 front and it works great on all hills I ride while still giving me an awesome gear on the flats for hammering. I really like the pricing on the Ultegra too, almost as good as Dura-Ace but much cheaper.

CS-6700 12-23, August 10, 2011
By A. Vinot

I would give this cassette (Ultegra CS-6700 12/23) 5 stars as a base training cassette and 3 stars for a top end speed cassette. This is a great cassette for base training. I live/ride in a very flat area. I bought this cassette for gapless shifting during my Sat/Sun group rides. Shifting has worked very well with my SRAM drivetrain. I run SRAM Red shifters with Force deraileurs and cranks. The only problem I have is running out of gears in sprint zones. 37 mph is about all you'll get from the 12. It's a give and take.

Item was new as described. It is a Shimano. What else can you say? That brand implies reliability, durability, and R&D behind their products.

Good cassette, May 18, 2012
By skippy1977

I have the 11-25 version and found it to be smooth shifting and lightweight. I ended up needing a 28T for hills and replaced this with a SRAM PG-1070. I would have given the Ultegra cassette 5 stars, but Between the two, I'd say the SRAM is a better value. It's a little lighter and a little cheaper with no noticeable difference in performance between the two (FYI: both were used with the same other components, an Ultegra 6700 series drivetrain).

great cassette, May 5, 2012
By TS (Boston)

Great cassette. What can I say? Its ultegra and works great. I got a 28 tooth to go with a SRAM Rival on my 1 x 10 'cross bike. 38t in front paired with the 28 makes for a nice low gear for the steeps.
Shop that shipped it was FAST. I could not believe how quick they got it out and I receive it in 2 days! Ground shipping too!
