Very good light, June 30, 2011
By Peter (Boston, MA)

This bike light is (somewhat surprisingly, given the price) the best I've used. I've been using the previous version (identical, but a nice silver color instead of black) for several years now, and the new black one for a few weeks. I bike a few thousand miles every year, and I've gone through at least a dozen different lights, so this is based on substantial experience.
1) It's never fallen off my bike. This may seem like an unusual claim to make, but most mounting mechanisms will work loose with enough vibration and bumps. I ride a lot. Not falling off is not unheard of, but it is rare.
2) It provides enough light to see by. It's not ultrabright, but it is bright enough.
3) It provides a wide angle of view. Most of the ultrabright lights do it by working like a spotlight. You're only visible from a narrow segment of the road, and you only light up a narrow segment (hello, Blackburn lights costing 2-3x more). This one has very nice optics, where you've got a spot of about the right size where you can see the road, and a much brighter area where you're visible (notice the two small lenses on the side -- the light has a very wide field where you're visible).
4) The battery lasts a long time for the brightness.
5) It doesn't turn itself off with vibration. This is surprising, given the design of the battery mounting cartridge (I've never had a light with a cartridge where the cartridge wouldn't go out of contact at some point going off a curb or something, and turn off)
6) It doesn't change angles as you're riding.
Overall, a very good design, at a very reasonable price. I much prefer it to the Blackburns, Zefals, and dozen-or-so off-brand lights I've tried, as well as to other Bell lights.
Only complaint is that I liked the old gray/metallic housing better.

Adequate bike light, July 6, 2011
By Brandon (Los Angeles, CA)

There isn't much to the Bell iPulse bike light. It does what it's supposed to do, and it does a "good enough" job at it. For $20, it's fairly inexpensive, the beam is bright for such a small torch. I haven't used it long enough to comment on battery life, but with 4 rechargeable AAA batteries, I'm not too worried. The bulb placement and design of the front glass helps greatly by placing a nice large beam on the ground in front of the bicycle, a smaller beam that shoots directly in front of you, and it throws out some lighting to the side so you can sort of see what's beside you. The clamping system works well, it includes an extra rubber band that acts as a filler, as seen in the product picture, for smaller handlebars. I ended up throwing that out as my handle bars are beefy enough for the clamp to clamp on without it. It holds strong, I hit many potholes and dips in the street and it has never moved from its original position. All in all, I give this torch a 4 star rating only because I wish the actual light output was a bit more intense and bright, but for $20 you can't beat it.

Great Functionality, August 10, 2011
By kingdavidbaker

This light works like a charm. The handlebar mount gave the snuggest fit I've ever had on a headlight. It does not move or twist even when doing heavy riding with jumps and such. The light seems to last an extremely long time which is definitely a plus. It gives more than enough light to see your way and it definitely makes you noticeable especially when using the flashing function. It projects a small amount of light to the sides and on the ground directly in front of the bicycle and about a 3 foot diameter spotlight in front of you. If you are riding in pitch black areas or biking on a mountain in the middle of the night then you might need more light but for most people this will be more than enough to handle the job.

Bell LED Bike Light, October 22, 2010

It is a great light for the price; I wish it was a bit brighter; I like the blinking feature as I ride in traffic in downtown Nashville. I also wear a 45 lumen head light for added "Public Awareness"

initial impression, January 11, 2012

Just received it and I think it will be fine for my needs. The beam is bright for 20-30 feet and the flashing LED's will be very visible to drivers. It's very light but the switch seems solid and there's a rubber ring that will hopefully provide a good seal for the battery compartment. The mount seems solid enough and I have it mounted where my handlebars are roughly 20mm in diameter which is about as wide as it would go. Because I mounted it next to another light I had to put it on at somewhat of an angle. Luckily they built an adjustment onto the rear of the mount so you can change the angle of the top of the mount which holds the light. My reason for 4 stars is that there is nothing in the instructions about this important feature. You need to take out the top screw and then the back of the mount can be adjusted to compensate for mounting at an angle. All in all a decent light that feels like it will be fine for both safety flashing and lighting the trail.

I dont recomend this product, it barely give you enought light, I had to install to units to compansate the lack of light and even with 2 units is not enought, it might work fine for rear blinking but I dont recomend it as front head light. dont waste your money.

Even better with two, December 6, 2011
By AJ

This light must be the best light you can buy for the price. I now own three. I use two mounted on one bike in a main beam & dip set up. With one beam set slightly above the other they really light your way in total darkness. When street lights are about I use the high beam in flash mode and the dip in steady mode. You can buy two of these far cheaper than one cateye, blackburn etc and most of the 'better make' lights all seem to use a very narrow spotlight beam that is no good in total darkness. The batteries seem to last for ages. Great buy

Awesome light!, November 17, 2011

This light has been awesome. The mount works great, even on the mountain trails, and gives out more than adequate light for what I need. A great buy, especially for the price.

Fur lightnin the way!!!, November 10, 2011
By Murph (East Coast)

I like to ride my bike. I have a 2 year old. I can only ride my bike when she is tucked away safe in bed. Most of my rides are @ 5am or 10pm so I need to see and be seen. I bought this and it works. I can see in front of me and cars can see me coming. I also bought a tail light but my kid likes to play with that one so one day daddy might get hit by a car from the rear if she keeps hiding it from me. That will learn her.

Great bike light! No tools needed for installation and removal..., November 10, 2011

I previously purchase the same item at Walmart but since I no longer shop there I decided to purchase another one for matching purposes and for added brightness when riding at night. Great product, no tools required to install and the angle is easy to adjust even after tightening the thumb screw. The price if very comparable to say the least.

Best bang for the buck, September 10, 2011
By Happycusty

I bought mine at walmart for more than this one is advertised. This is a great little light. It goes easy on batteries and actually illuminates the road pretty well. I wouldn't use it to mountain bike down a dark trail at a fast pace but riding down a dark sidewalk, through a dark park, or down a dark road I am able to miss potholes etc. without a problem on my cruiser. When you put it on flash mode cars pretty much drive into the ditch to stay away from you. This is to me a see and be seen type of light which is nice. If you ride a lot of city the flash function is awesome! It makes you known and from quite a distance. I would suggest anybody that didn't have or want to spend more than $20 on a head light get this one and I've had a few lights in my time.
Also as seen in other reviews, this light does not move around on my handlebar and the quick release clip is still very secure after 6 months, this head light does not fall off my bike ever and never has.

i have this on my toddlers bike. The mounting tab is awesome and works very well on all but the oversized all mountain handle bars. the flash mode is blinding with the strobe effect. the steady mode is sufficient for around town. i have used it and can out run the field of view and have to slow down. all in all it is a great light and the batteries last forever.

Good light, but not as bright as I was hoping, January 12, 2012
By Dex L (San Ramon, CA USA)

I bought 5 of these lights for myself and the kids for Christmas. It sounded like this model had very good illumination. However, I didn't find the product does a great job at proving sufficient lighting for riding at night. Other comments are: the body design is nice, the construction is very good, and the mounting was very easy. I am not a cyclist, so I don't have any experience with other bike lights.

Sweet Torch!, December 15, 2011

Easy installation, very bright light. The best part is it can be uncoupled from the bike and used as a regular flashlight. Which comes in very handy when (look out here comes a bus!) your lovely wife locks the keys in the car and it's dark when keys finally show up...

NIce Bike Light, February 23, 2012

A very nice bike light. It detaches from the mount with one push of a lever. Gives great light out in front of the bike so not only can they see you but you can see where you are going. We use it when camping and it works great.

Well worth the buy!, April 27, 2012
By Vince Clortho

Based upon the design, I thought this light may produce nothing more than a cheap flashlight-like beam, but I decided to try it anyway and discovered that it works well! It produces a nice bright beam up front, as well as some light out to the sides, so it does create a nice flood pattern. For anyone who knocks this light saying that it isn't bright enough, I'm not sure what they expect. This is not one of those hundred-dollar lights with an on-board clunky rechargeable battery. If you want something as bright as farm tractor lights, spend more and go with one of those, but this light (especially with two) works more than well enough for riding around the neighborhood. It is indeed bright and you can see very well in front of you. I did a review about the Bell iLumina light which claims to be brighter, but don't waste your $30 on it. This one (even though saying it is not as bright) is half the price and in my opinion is much better. It clicks into the mounting bracket very nicely. If anyone is worried that it is going to pop out, don't. It fits tights and you just need to give it a light push to get it to click into place. I think some people just don't realize that it is in place because they don't push it far enough. But if you're wanting good, inexpensive bike light, this one is well-worth it. Use two on your handle bars for an even better view!

Very bright. Compact and unobtrusive. Not the best headlight for seeing, but you will certainly BE SEEN. Cutouts allow it to be seen from the side as well.

Not Bad!, April 12, 2012
By ravenshand

The light is a pretty bright, Strobes nice - others will see it. As for the steady light the beam has a tight focused area - but is Bright, & like most LEDs has that certain color to it.
Have not ridden on any trails without street lights yet, I think it will do the job - but wish it had a bigger beam spread to cover more area.
Easy to clamp onto the bike, and use the quick release, and stays in place.
One thing I hope is that the twist on front does not loosen up and wiggle off. Has a included rubber ring on cap, to help with keeping water out.
Only time will tell how this light holds up and works on the Lake front trails.
4 Star's, Target has cheaper price ($19.99).

Fantastic bike light, March 17, 2012
By Jeff E.

I upgraded from a cheap halogen or incandescent bike light, and I always thought the batteries died too quickly with that old one. This Bell LED bike light is much brighter, and the batteries last a lot longer. The handle bar mount works just fine, and I haven't had any problem with the light at all.

SEE ME NOW!!, May 13, 2012

If you purchase two of these and mount them on your handlebars - you will emit as much light as a small sedan! the Bell iPulse LED Bike Torch is both good for seeing, and being seen. The torch splashes light on the roadway directly in front of the bike and also illuminate the roadway ahead (when angled properly.) Street signs glow as you approach them. They are compact and also easily double as hand held flashlights when removed from the housing. 4 AAA batteries will keep the road glowing for days. My wife is jealous of how cool my bike looks when I ride off into the night, and safety is priority ONE!

Bell iPulse LED light, May 2, 2012
By JohnAPAD

I have 2 of these lights mounted on one of my mountain bikes. I ride every morning for fun and exercise well before the sun comes up. With two of these lights on my bike the road and bike paths are very well lit. One light would work fine for most cases. but with two you can stagger the beams, one close and one farther out. It makes even rough dirt trails easy to navigate in the dark. The mounting bracket is very secure and easy to take off and put on. I have much more expensive lights on my other bike, but these work just as well for a LOT less money.

Bright and easy to attach, April 30, 2012
By ari
|

nice power, not even tools needed to attach. Small enough to take it with you every time you leave the bike unattended. what I'm wondering about right now: needs 4 small AAA batteries. let's see whether the battery life is really that good and worth 4 batteries. I'll check it out, but so far it's definitely worth 5 stars, device itself without batteries lightweight, bright and good attaching.

Not very bright, really, May 17, 2012
By Michael Stephenson (Jackson, MS USA)

This is a reasonably well made bicycle light, but is not realy bright enough to safely light up the road. It is probably good for letting you be seen by motorists, but if you actually need to see the pavement where there are no street lights, it comes up short. For about $30 you could buy a Nebo 5581 and a 5 dollar mount and enjoy many time the brightness....
1. Nebo Redline Tactical Flashlight Strobe S.O.S 220 Lumen #5581 2. Neewer Rubber Bicycle Torch Mount Bike Cycling Flashlight LED Holder
Both available from Amazon....
