Convenience, April 28, 2011

This is a neat little headlight/taillight for your helmet.
It securely mounts to your helmet with a little velcro strap. With the single button on top, you can toggle through the modes to control what kind of light you want (steady white/red, blinking white/red, etc.).
Now be aware that the light is not bright enough to use as your sole light source. It is to be used primarily as a safety light. Because it's helmet-mounted, you can aim the headlight at driver's at intersections to let them know you're there. The rear red light is just a bonus.
The light weighs so little that I keep it permanently mounted on my helmet and never have to worry about getting caught in the dark while on a ride (I also keep a handlebar-mounted light and a rear blinkie in my saddle bag).
All in all, a great safety addition for your rides for just a few bucks.

Topeak HeadLux Helmet Light, November 8, 2010

Good conception; good design; poor execution. Condensation during a night ride -- when I REALLY needed the extra light -- caused the headlamp to go out. The unit worked fine after it dried out, but of course after the unit dried out, it was daytime. . . .

An attention getter But poor quality, October 4, 2010

This light is a good attenetion getter wmich is how i used it.. The white led is not strong enough to safely use as your only light source. The reason i only gave it 2 stars is its poor quality workmanship. I commute home form work after dark 4 days a week. After about a month the white led stopped woprking in all modes except flashuing which made no difference to me. Now after 4 months the light would not turn off. The battery ran down after 4 days. I would not reccomend it soley for that reason.

Unreliable, Does Not Like Cold Weather, November 7, 2011
By John H. Benton

Purchased this light to replace a Spok light that was damaged in an accident. It is brighter than the Spok, so improves visibility to traffic. However, it is unreliable. It does not work well when the temperature drops below 40F (14C). Further, it quits working completely. At first, the flash mode gets very dim. However, the continuous on front/flash rear mode turns into an alternating front/rear flash mode. It worked fine in this mode for awhile and the lights were still plenty bright even though the mode is not correct per the unit's design. There is probably some component in the device's logic board that is affected by temperature. Eventually it quit working in this mode, too. Have had it about 6 months and found that it is completely unreliable - never know if it will work or not. Have quit using it and contacted the manufacturer about the defects.
Price is right, although would not recommend purchasing it.

Really Pleased!, October 19, 2011

I am really pleased with this light. I got it because I am always trying to do my part to be seen as a cyclist on roadways. I feel like its the least I should and can do. First this light is super easy to attach to the top of your helmet with an adequate length velcro strap. Second, it is easy to operate with one button. Finally I have been using this light on and off for more than a year now and the battery life is fantastic. Great Great!

50/50 ... one of two quit working within two weeks., May 23, 2012

Bought two of these. After two weeks of use, one turns on but won't turn off or change modes. The other works fine. They are extremely visible and functional (when working properly); however, feel like they should be a little more reliable.

Nice idea, but piece of junk., May 11, 2012

Like the other reviewers have noted, this light seemed brilliant but has a number of flaws. The provided velcro strap is really cheaply made; I ended up using some zip ties instead since it wasn't long enough to loop through the vents for the right positioning on my Bell helmet. As another reviewer points out, when temperatures dep below 50F (which is pretty common in darker months where I live) the front flash stops working. Switching to front solid seems to work for awhile as flash, but that then stops working too. I haven't gotten battery life to match the expectations, though it's not 100% clear whether it's because of the temperature issue or not (I end up with some super dim blinking lights which do seem to improve with new batteries). Anyway, while the design is clever, I'm shopping for a replacement that actually works.

Fits nicely on my helmet. The plastic seems to be made out of a good quality plastic. It seems that it will last.

Poor quality, January 10, 2012
By JH NYC

I used this light in a downpour, to make myself more visible to cars. As another reviewer noted, this light collects water inside, but in my case it wasn't condensation; it was leakage from rain. I dried it out with a hair drier, which took quite a while. Then I wrapped it in a plastic sandwich bag, cinched around the mount with a rubber band. That solved the leakage. But there may still have been a short; the batteries ran down much faster than advertised, and during periods of non-use, they weakened significantly as well. After feeding the light with batteries for months, a fresh set almost every time I rode at night, I dropped my helmet top-down onto a concrete floor from about 3 feet up. One of the two flanges that holds the light onto the mount, broke. The drop was not that big a deal; I don't think the light should have broken; maybe it was just an unlucky hit. Anyway, the light still flashes, but now it won't attach to the helmet mount. Bottom line: Great idea, poor execution.

A "Head" of the Game, December 29, 2011

I have an ATB and a hybrid, which I ride on paved inner-city streets. But as an auto driver, I also know the importance of visibility, and how a cyclist can appear out of nowhere--especially at night.
This is a good light--functionally and design-wise. It attached easily to my Bell helmet, and has been very snug. Good illumination, with helpful features, such as the blinking modes, which aid you in being detected by drivers. Still, I would suggest it as a complement to a bike light, but not a substitute, as it doesn't have the same level of projection.
If you ride a bike at night, a decent helmet light is a smart idea. It aids in identifying you as a cyclist, and could possibly serve as a back-up should your primary light(s) fail as you are riding.
