5.0 out of 5 stars.  Arm protection from sun and cool weather., August 10, 2010
By dtpero (Libertyville, Illinois)
I'm an avid road biker and I spend many hours a week riding in the sun. I use sunscreen to protect
my face, neck, arms and legs. This becomes quite a chore when you do it everyday along with sunscreen soiling
your clothing.

My arms are exposed to the sun no matter what direction I ride and they get too much sun regardless
of how much sunscreen I put on, besides the sunscreen soils on my riding jerseys and gloves.

A friend of my told me about the sun sleeves for riding. I bought a pair and liked them so much I have
since purchased another pair for back up. The sleeves are comfortable in hot weather as well as cool weather.

The material is designed to wick perspiration away from the body and keep the arms cool.

Bottom line ---it beats sunscreen and works for keeping the sun off your arms.

If you are a sun worshiper this is not the product for you.

Excellent protector for outdoor exercise on sunny days, very comfortable and insulates heat. The material makes the sweat dry faster and feel a cool sensation.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The Best For Long Arms, April 6, 2011
By T-MAC (Dallas, Texas)
I ride my motorcycle in short sleeves during the summertime, and having to protect my investment on my arms, always required sunscreen or long sleeve t-shirts in the past. Getting those white stains everywhere from the sunscreen, or to have to wear long sleeve t-shirts in a Texas summer had to go. So when I discovered sun sleeves, I thought I had found my answer, but all the ones I tried were too short or small. Then I found these. I ordered X-Large, white, they are perfect for me. Being tall with long arms, these will still go from wrist to arm pit, and not be stretched to the limit. They are thick enough for good protection, but not too heavy. Easy on and off, so when I get somewhere, I can just take them off. I now have three pairs. I will be watching the price, and order a couple more pairs, keeping them unopened, until my current ones just wear out. I really like the L and R designation. If you are tall with long arms, these are the sun sleeves for you. I highly recommend these.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Falls apart in the wash, June 27, 2011
By Rev-Run
These are a little longer and warmer than my other sun sleeves. I wore them on one run, and they didn't keep my arms cool enough for long. Putting water on them from my water bottle didn't help much, and I started running low on water on my 45 minute run. I washed them in cold water on the delicate cycle(with only a few other small items) after only wearing them once, and the stitching on one cuff of the sleeves has started unraveling, like it was poorly made. I have never had this happen with any other quality clothing, sporty or not, that I washed. Other reviewers like them, and maybe I just got a defective item, in which case a replacement is in order. If others are having similar problems, however, a refund is appropriate.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Discrepancy in the product UPF descriptions, June 15, 2011
By JWMadison
Amazon product description says they are UPF 50+ but the product tag that came with the sleeves (I got the white ones) says they are UPF 40+.

A little reference on sizing: the XS sleeves fit me perfectly and I am a 5-foot 97-pound female.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  They work, plain and simple, May 17, 2011
By johnscarf
These sleeves work... They protect your arms from the sun's radiation. They are comfortable to wear in warm to hot weather. I would not recommend them for cold weather riding. The fit is what it should be, with just enough extra length to allow them to cover from under your gloves up past the sleeves of your jersey. There is enough stretch in the fabric for a mild compression feel and more importantly, they stay in place during the longest of rides. The Pearl Izumi logo is discretely visible on the lower forearm, a nice touch of white-on-white styling. I've washed them a 1/2 dozen times and they still look great. BTW I use them for road and mountain bike riding and an occasional run. Bottom line, this product works.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Sun Sleeve, July 3, 2011
By PH
In the SW USA there is no avoiding the sun. Yup, 300+ days of pure sun shine... nice :-) Sunblock can only protect so much, and it will eventually wear off after a while. Thus leaving your skin exposed to the Suns UV.

Ok, so I got the Sleeves for the sun protection. Here's what I have noticed. The sizes run big. If you are a MED go with a small. Also, in keeping with Pearl Izumis' lax quality controls, the sleeves may not be an even match. At one store, three pairs of these sun sleeves (6 sleeves total) had 5 sleeves of different lengths, and they were all labeled Medium. Interesting, but Pearl Izumi reviews have noted quality/size discrepancies in many of their other products.

Sizing aside, the material is a bit rough but still comfortable. The sleeves stay in place and don't slide off. They are noticeably warm. So, if its a warm day you will feel even warmer. The material is moisture wicking but doesn't let much air to flow through. So, I probably won't be using these a whole lot during the summer.

4 stars because they should function fine during the winter/fall, the 5th star is missing because they are too warm to use when you really need them during the peak sun season... aka-summer.

UPDATE:
After much riding with the sleeves I figured a thing or two out. They will feel warmer on a hot day. However, the sun protection cannot be matched. So, it's a fair trade, some heat for good protection. I have been out all day with these and haven't been sun burned or tanned. So they block the sun for sure. Now I don't ride without them.

Earlier I mentioned fall/winter... well lets delete the winter part. 50's weather and these sun sleeves are a bit too thin to offer much warmth.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  More than cycling, February 18, 2011
By crichards
I bought a pair of these after a friend of mine recommended them for running. She was getting ready to run a road race and it began to POUR. She was able to scoot into a running store and grab a pair before the race and she said they kept her arms, especially wrists warm during the cold rain. I do not like to wear heavy sweatshirts, especially during events, so these sleeves help hold heat while running in cold weather. When I got a little warm I could tug them down my arm a little or off completely and then slip them back on when the temperature dropped. All of this without sacrificing my core temperature by pulling off a shirt! I highly recommend this product!!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Life Saver, September 9, 2010
By Toodle
These Sun Sleeves are more than for the sun. They work perfect in the morning when I am feeding my horses. It is too hot to wear a long sleeve shirt in the summer so I slip on my "Alfalfa" sleeves before I feed & take them off to finish the rest of my chores. I only bought one pair to see how they hold up with the abuse they take on the ranch and all the washing. I have washed them over 30 times (in cold water & hang to dry). They still stay up and have not shrunk! No more Alfalfa allergies. Love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Pearl Izumi Sun Sleeves, June 30, 2011
By selective reader
Due to sun damage on my forearms, it was recommended to use not only sun screen but to wear sleeves while playing golf or gardening. I ordered these Sun Sleeves and they are fantastic! Very comfortable, cool even in high 80's, easily washed and look just fine with my golf outfits. After golf, I just pull them off and have lunch with my golfing girl friends. Highly recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Trans America bike ride, July 20, 2011
By Brooks (Fayetteville, AR, US)
My husband is a cancer survivor. He is using the sun sleeves this summer during his Trans America bike ride to raise money for the Leukemia-Lymphoma Foundation. He says they are awesome! They protect his skin but he stays cool. He is so grateful that he can use these instead of wearing a long sleeve shirt this summer.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  The "XL" fits great fit on athletic arms; they run "long.", January 24, 2012
By khc
Finally, an arm sleeve that doesn't fit too snugly; not everyone needs or wants "compression" all the time. Although I'm dark complected, I've been sunburned on my arms while hiking & biking; these sleeves [along with sunscreen and a sun hat] really help to provide much-needed protection. I have 3 pair, and I wear them frequently when outside, or driving.

The Pros:
Very well made, from a stretchy 90% nylon and 10% elastic material, according to the garment tag [fabric weight is fairly substantial; an single "XL" sleeve weights about 1.3 ozs, and measures 7 inches at cuff [circumference], 10 inches at upper arm, and 20 1/2 inches long UN-STRETCHED].

The mesh/ventilation area under the forearm does allow for cooling; they are also advertised to have a good moisture-transfer ability.

They are comfortable to wear, and they do block the sun [I also use sunblock on my arms]; the sleeves have an advertised block of 40+ UPF on top.

There is a left and a right, which places the seam towards the "center" of the body.

The Cons:
Since they're not skin-tight, the material will pucker at bit at the elbow, mostly.

They run long; I'm short/average height at 5'8", and have a couple inches of excess material at the wrist. Sometimes, especially while cycling, I'll pull the sleeve down to the base of my thumb [my cycling gloves don't protect the back of my hand]; otherwise, I just fold, or layer, the excess material into a cuff at the wrist.

Overall: Nice, well-sewn and affordable arm sleeves. Amazon may not have the "best deal;" check around [I got mine at "running warehouse" online].

5.0 out of 5 stars.  excellent quality for the price, December 1, 2011
By Ezekiel (San Diego, Ca)
Excellent material and quality compared to the elixir brands, fits me perfectly even though I'm on the chubby side, the length though is for tall people, but i guess that's because i'm asian size, use it mainly for driving in my car for long distances in the heat of the sun, protects my arms and keeps it cooler too. Easy to take on and off, doesn't run even though i have my ring on, (unlike the elixir brands). Material is very durable. I'm definitely happy with my purchase, in fact bought two of different colors, using it currently.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very Cool, November 16, 2011
By Eric (Dallas, Texas)
I've used this product about 5 times and washed it after every use. It seems perfectly unaffected by the wash so the person who commented on it falling apart must have received a lemon. I am surprised at how cool it feels - I was skeptical of the comments about the way it felt but agree now that I've worn them.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Stays cool even in the sun, October 12, 2011
By Wongway (Honolulu, HI)
I'm a driver's ed instructor and spend hours in the car in Hawaii. Sun is always blazing on my arms so I decided to give these a try based on the reviews. I have short arms so I ordered the Med size. However, I didn't take into consideration that I have fat arms so they are a little tight around the biceps but not to the point of cutting off any circulation. So far, they are very comfortable and doesn't get hot or sweaty. I don't know how it works but with the sleeves on, it's actually the coolest part of my body? Easy enough to pull on and off as needed. I keep them in the car and slide them on depending on the time of the day. I might try the black ones next time. The white ones got dirty right away from me leaning my arm on the window ledge on top of the rubber moldings.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great sun protection, October 8, 2011
By Lilac Lily (Florida, USA)
My husband got this sleeve to protect his arms when working outdoors. So far he is happy with it. Although he says that the white color isn't very practical for outside work and it gets dirty quickly. The material of the sleeve looks as if it could rip easily but so far it has held up well. It also isn't very breathable which makes it feel a bit hot on a sunny day. The x-large size fits well without constricting your movements. Overall, it's a good alternative to applying sunscreen every few hours. A must have for people who get a lot of sun exposure.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for Arizona, July 14, 2011
By Joe J Chvatal (TUCSON, AZ, US)
Good product, delivered in a timely manner. I live in Arizona and play golf in the hot summer months. These sleeves allow you to wear a comfortable short sleeve shirt while protecting your arms from the harmful rays of the sun. They wick away perspiration and actually seem to have a cooling effect. The only con I have is that they are way to long. I have to fold over the top about 3-4 inches so that they are not bunched in your arm pits.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  A little too long, but really good., July 4, 2011
By Kathryn Lance (Tucson, Arizona)
I spend a lot of time out of doors in the desert leading nature walks. I prefer to wear t-shirts, so these sun sleeves are great for protecting my forearms. (I also wear sun gloves). They are a little too long and somewhat hard to put on, but once they are on they stay. The little mesh insert helps somewhat to keep me cool.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Purchased to use in the sun....BUT !, October 29, 2010
By J.
It's tough to give you a review of these SUN sleeves, but I can't. We haven't had any sun for me to try these out on since I purchase them at the beginning of the month for my wife and I. I gave my wife the medium and I took the small size....too much IM training? They are extra long which is great since I'm 6'3' tall and I think circumference size at the top is a little larger than listed. When we get some sun, I will let you know how they workout. 3.0 out of 5 stars.  These are the heavier thicker version, May 24, 2012
By mrchick (Elk Grove, CA USA)
I did not realize that these are the heavier thicker "moisture wicking" version when ordered. They are more appropriate to a cool spring day, rather than a hot California summer. As soon as I received them, I realized they were not what I expected. I returned them and reordered Pearl Izumi Men's Sun Sleeves which are much cooler, yet still protect very well from the sun.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Much Cooler Than Sunscreen, September 24, 2011
By Dan on 7
Pearl Izumi did a wonderful job on these. The breeze of biking cools your arms from below while the material keeps the sun's rays from heating and burning the top side of your arms. I was very surprize that in 90 degree heat the sun sleeve were cooler than sunscreen cream. The only negative is the medium is too long for my 32 inch sleeve lenght but the fold nicely.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Decent Product, August 1, 2011
By clorox
I avoid the sun at all costs. Bought these to wear for an upcoming century ride in the high desert where the sun is intense. Tested them on a 65 mile ride the other day that saw me riding through lunch and up until around 2:00 (the worst hours for sun). These sleeves were not hot. They seemed to do a good job at keeping the sun off.

X-Large sleeves are plenty long. I'm 6'2", and these go to my armpits and past my wrist bones.

Comfortable.

Since there don't seem to be very many affordable, long-sleeve jerseys for cycling in hot weather, the Pearl Izumi Sun Sleeves are the next best thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent sleeves for cycling, June 30, 2011
By Bobmon (Minneapolis, MN)
I know these are intended as "sun sleeves" to help protect your arms from the sun, but they also work pretty well as light weight arm warmers. I have fleece warmers and these. Recently I rode the MS 150 and the mornings were a bit chillier than I expected. Heading out in 45 degree weather gets a bit chilly when you suddenly create your own wind chill by cranking away at eighteen miles an hour. But, I popped these sleeves on and the chill in my arms went away. Later in the day when the sun was out and things were warmer I slid these off, rolled them up, and they tucked away nicely in my back pockets. Yes, I know it's ironic that I took my sun sleeves off when the sun came out... But, anyways they work great as a light weight arm warmer and seemed to keep the sun off my arms quite well when I had them on. The only problem with these is that when it got too warm out they seemed like overkill but I also dump out a lot of heat when cycling, so perhaps other folks might find them easier to keep on when it's warmer out.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good for all occassions, June 23, 2011
By etane (LA)
I got back into biking about 3 months ago. I was logging about 120 miles a week. However, I was getting very dark as I tan easily. So, I started using sun block. However, I hate using that sticky mess. So, I looked into biking clothing accessories that will shield me from the sun.

My only reservation is whether these products will get me over heated easy. Well, the PI Sun Screen not only not get me heated but it's actually very good at maintaining a comfortable body temperature as long as you're biking over 10 miles per hour. I do pull the sleeves down to my wrists when I am climbing up a steep hill. And, when I am over the hump, I pull the sleeves back up.

The sleeves do a very good job wicking sweat away too. My arms feel very comfortable while wearing the sleeves, cool and dry.

I think I put about 1k mile on my sleeves so far. They are off gray color now and doesn't quite ventilate as well compared to when new. I probably don't wash them enough. Perhaps one should get two pairs, so one pair can be washed while using the other pair.

Whether you running, cycling, working in the garden, toobin down a river with ice cold LONESTAR in hand, OR JUST TRYING TO protect some really good ink, these are the best. 5.0 out of 5 stars.  Really nice!, August 19, 2011
By JBG (Earth)
Like everything else from Pearl Izumi, they are very high quality, made of a very nice stretchy material. Buy them at your t-shirt size and they should fit. The material even feels cool when you put them on.

The only two complaints I have are that they run very long. I don't have short arms but I found that mine were too long. I like these enough that I'm paying extra to get them professionally altered so I don't have to fold them back at the top. The other complaint is that they're a bit off white, like white clothes which were badly washed. But other than that, they work great and look really cool, they make your arms look extra muscular!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  a little long, but they are very nice, August 5, 2011
By Vidiot
These sleeves do a nice job of keeping the sun off my arms so I don't have to slather on so much more sunscreen.

They also are perfectly wearable in these upper 90s/lower 100s temps we've been having here.

They're maybe a couple of inches too long to fit without crinkling up, but then I guess they'll work pretty well with sleeveless jerseys that you might pull all the way up to your armpits.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Best sun sleeves on the market, July 23, 2011
By Huusoku
I've tried a lot of different arm sleeves but none are as comfortable or as long as these. I love Pearl Izumi and I don't know what took me so long to find these.

I am 6'0", weigh 173 lbs, and have longer than normal arms. I ordered size Large and it is PERFECT. They are long enough to go from my wrist all the way to my armpit. Practically speaking, while wearing these and moving around, they go from my wrist to the top of my biceps.

I use these while driving in the central California valley to prevent my arms from sun burning. I never leave home without these.

They do seem to be a bit on the thick side, but they are very breathable & I never sweat in them. In fact I feel cooler with them on because they block the heat from the sun.

My trouble in the past was finding sun sleeves that were long enough for me. If this is you, then your search is over. Get this product. Another reviewer recommended getting the XL size for its length, but honestly the L size is very long as it is. 5 Stars without a doubt. Thank you Pearl Izumi!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Worth the Money, June 17, 2011
By Jerrad
Today was the first day on a ride with the Pearl Izumi Sun Sleeve, and I was pleasantly surprised. After having read the reviews on this product, I purchased a pair of sleeves with some skepticism. Trying on the sleeves, I found them to be a good fit (I ordered a large) for my arms. I stand 5'8" and the sleeves went to my shoulder. They fit snugly, though not so tight as to restrict circulation. I was concerned they may roll down during my ride, but that never became an issue. The sun was shining brightly, and temps were in the mid 70's. I never felt as though the sleeves were keeping heat in, or that it was so warm that I would feel more comfortable with the sleeves off. At the end of the ride, I took the sleeves off and told my riding partners that the sleeves were a great investment. I think I'll be ordering another pair or two.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Too thick!!, August 1, 2011
By TW (California)
I bought the sun sleeves to avoid having to slather sunscreen on my arms multiple times during a ride. The sun sleeves are longer than expected (that's ok with me) and the material feels thick. I've purchased several Lululemon sun tops that are spf 50 and the material is very light and can be worn when it's 90-100 degrees without feeling too hot. The PI's block the sun, but feel too thick and hot in comparison. I resort to wearing my Lululemon tops instead unless it's cool enough to wear the thick sun sleeves.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  UV Sleeves, March 16, 2012
By Simmo371
Not at all happy with these sun sleeves. Second wear they split while pulling them on and the third wear the stitching started coming undone down a seam. I expected more than this.
Sorry these don't rate probably even the 1 star I've given them.

I ordered the Black ones after reading a couple reviews on here. This one is a must have for biker enthusiasts.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Sleeves, February 28, 2012
By Brandon A Minnick
These work great and make your arms actually cooler than having bare skin in the sun. I am 6'1" and weigh 165, I am tall and skinny. I got the Medium size and they are perfect for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  WRAP IT UP, June 19, 2011
By A Customer
Whether you running, cycling, working in the garden, toobin down a river with ice cold LONESTAR in hand, OR JUST TRYING TO protect some really good ink, these are the best. I rock the sleeves all the time down here in SOUTH TEXAS, it's brutal. YOU can't be to cautious when it comes to harmful UV RAYS sizzling you skin.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent product, May 26, 2012
By jennifer
These are very comfortable on my arms, and they stay on nicely. They are a bit long (since I could only order Large as Medium wasn't available), but I use the extra fabric to cover over my wrists/gloves. Now I only need to put sunblock on my face/neck when I ride. The white color also really stands out, and making me more visible on the road.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good but not great., May 24, 2012
By anton2g
I love the price on these. They were my first armwarmers that I bought for biking, and it was a really good way to test if I liked them or not. They were not warm enough for me during the winter months, so I bought a pair of SmartWool armwarmers (love them). These are just got for chilly Fall and Spring.

Pros:
Cost
Labeled left/right sleeves
extra ventilation on certain areas of the arm
Good temperature control for moderate climates

Cons:
Elastic wore out after 6 months on one sleeve
Do not keep your arms really warm

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Great for cool morning weather but too hot for above 85 degree, May 9, 2012
By R. Nguyen (Norther Virginia, VA)
I bought it for my daily 40 miles bike commute. It's great for the cool morning ride without sunblock but it's too hot on the afternoon ride when it's above 85 degree. I have to remove them after 10 minutes ride. It's a tight fit. I'm wonder it could work in hot weather if it's loose fit.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Pearl Izumi Suh Sleeves, April 20, 2012
By Sweet Willy
I'm a 4 day a week golfer, and after a few bouts with skin cancer, my doctor told me to use sun sleeves, and make
sure you can't see through them. These are the best I've found for quality and price. They're a little warm on warm days,
so I just keep a glass of cold water in my cart for dipping---then they act like an air conditioner. I highly recommend this
product.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  They work!, April 19, 2012
By David K. Woods
I recently wore these sleeves on a two day ride in the Southern California High and Low Deserts. The temperatures were in the 80-90s both days and the sun was intense. While my legs got somewhat burned even with sunblock my arms suffered no apparent damage and the wicking properties of the sleeves kept my arms reasonably cool. A great item for summer biking in sunny areas!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  great product, April 18, 2012
By carlos (fort lauderdale, florida)
ok i am an avid cyclist (200 miles/week) and i ride in south florida miami area where is hot hot. these things kept my arms cool in the 11am sun as long as the wind was blowing. to have an idea how cool it was, i end up wondering if i could get an outfit made out of this material. About the sun protection i can not tell much since my arms are so burned from all my rides without protection.
over all the product feels great and it is as if you are not wearing them at all. all that remains is the sense of coolness around the arms. if you are a cyclist looking for sun protection this is the product you want.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  AHHH, COOLING SUPER SUN SLEEVES.... WASH BY HAND ONLY; THEY'LL LAST LONGER, April 15, 2012
By I. GLENN
I am a female with the average arm length, and I have at least 2 inches that puddle at my wrist. Which is okay not noticable, nor in my way. I ordered the small, which is perfect. Yes they keep your arms cool; I noticed how much cooler the arm I had the sleeve on verses the arm I had nothing on. So glad I bought them. Quality is superb.
