Pearl Izumi Glove, January 28, 2011
By Bobby3T
|
|
Glove looks great and has padding in all the appropriate locations to help keep your hands from going numb on long rides. I had to return the first pair i purchased, they were too small. all clothing i wear is size med/large so i ordered a size large glove. unfortunately the large was too small so be aware that these sizes run on the smaller size (XL work GREAT for me - I'm 6'2" 180 lbs).

Great Cycling Glove, September 28, 2010
By crombian
|
|
I am a big fan of Pearl iZUMi, so naturally I had high hopes for this cycling glove. After using these gloves for two short/moderate rides (7 and 14 miles), I'm happy to report that these gloves have held up to my expectations.
For a lower-priced boutique cycling glove, the 'Select' from Pearl iZUMi is a great value. They fit securely and my hands never got too sweaty due to quick moisture wicking and venting. The gloves were just as easy to remove as they were to put on and the special absorbent fabric along the outside portion of the thumb did not irritate my face when using it to wipe away excess sweat. The "gel-foam" pads are really more "foam" than they are "gel" but both placement and thickness is just right.
Recommended.

I want to wear them all the time!, April 26, 2011
By XI (Old Forge, PA USA)
|
|
Immediate reaction to these gloves was "hmm... the quality seems a bit on the lower side". HOWEVER... I quickly considered that these things are going to be getting sweaty, dirty, and roughed up, and I don't even want something i'm going to have to feel bad about replacing. (THINK OF AN ESCALADE OR CADILLAC GOING OFFROADING)
VERDICT: With these gloves, you definitely get what you pay for. AWESOME biking gloves... Great ventilation and the easy off tab is a great addition.
I Just used these gloves for the first time yesterday on a 12 mile ride and they were more than great.
The cushioning does indeed feel more like foam, but it's a great feel. I have no complaints. It most definitely does its job in any way. The cushioning was the main reason for buying ANY type of biking gloves because I plan on doing some long long rides this summer and I have no doubts that these will be the perfect candidate.
For size inquiries:
I purchased an XL. I am 6'3" and about 165 lbs. My palm is just shy of the size of a Compact Disc. Hopefully this helps someone.
I am completely satisfied with these gloves, and would not hesitate to buy them again when (if) they become unwearable.

Fit good, easy on, not too bad to take off. Definitely helps with numbing of hands during long rides. I find that my hands are much more comfortable.

did not meet sizing guidelines, June 12, 2011
By Deep Space Researcher (Pasadena, CA United States)
|
|
The size of the pearl izumi gloves I ordered were based upon the sizing guidelines suggested (measuring around the knuckles of the hands). I faithfully measured and found that it corresponded to a size 7 which corresponded to a small size. I ordered the small size and found it to be too small. It fits but is difficult to get off without significant contortions of the hand (if the glove fits,....) And,it restricts my circulation while riding as I feel numb after rides. I am disappointed with this purchase. I'm still hopeful it might expand with use but I am currently using an old pair which is heavily worn because it is so much more comfortable.

High Quality Glove, July 24, 2011
By PA Stuff Buyer (Bellefonte, PA)
|
|
Things I like about this glove -
1) Excellent workmanship
2) Well placed padding
3) I really like the glove closure strap on the "palm side" of the wrist
4) Very light weight
Things that could be better
1) I would prefer more padding
General thoughts
1) The glove does run a bit small - For a golf glove, I wear a "med-large" and for this glove a "large" is nicely snug - so maybe half size small...
2) I would buy another pair...

Insufficient padding and cheaply made, August 30, 2011
By Pamela J. Boudreau (Chicago, IL)
|
|
I just got these gloves in the mail today and I will be returning them. The pads on the palms are way to spread out and thin to do any good. There is so much space in-between the pads that they are almost on the sides of my hands. The black fabric on the palms is thin and does not feel durable at all. I don't even need to wear them to bike to know that my fingers will go numb. The only thing I like about them is the pull tab to take them off easily. These gloves looked great in the picture but not nearly as impressive in real life.

Poor workmanship!, January 26, 2011
By Blowfish (United States)
|
|
Upon receiving these, I took one look and logged on to return them. While they look great in the Amazon picture online, the pair I received were frayed on every finger. It truly looked like someone took a pair of scissors and cut the fingertips off without any effort to finish the edges. They looked so terrible and cheap. When I did try them on, there were threads hanging out of each finger. I don't know how else to explain it, other than they look like someone just took a pair of scissors to the fingers. Maybe it was just the pair I received, but it looked like someone at the factory was ready to go home at quittin time and the quality control department was out to lunch.

comfortable but not durable, August 4, 2011
By Scott Cochran (Swainsboro, GA, US)
|
|
These gloves are so comfortable, that after owning this pair for a week, I bought my wife a pair to replace the $5 wallyworld gloves she had...... but they're just not durable. I've had them a month and already wore a hole in the material near one of the fingers. I ride 3 or 4 days for a total of 40 or 50 miles a week. I'm still wearing them, and will until my cycling friends start laughing at me.. maybe durability and comfort are mutually exclusive in cycling gloves..?

Felt good but super thin....concerned about durability, July 9, 2011
By M. Baca
|
|
These gloves look great and feel good too. They are SUPER thin, so much that it is impossible to remove them unless you use the wrist strap and pull them towards your fingers, essentially turning the glove inside out.
I tried removing them by pulling the half fingers the 1st time and the material began to unravel.
The fingers are made of a thin layer of stitched foam material which looks quite fragile. Like I said, if you pull on this your gloves will rip.
The padding was not noticeable, in a good or bad way. My impression from wearing these gloves is that I didn't even know I had them on and my hands felt fine after an 2 hr bike ride.

AWESOME!, July 22, 2010

These are probably the best gloves I have bought in my entire life. The packaging was great too. Brand new condition, never been opened as they should be. =-p
I wear these gloves almost everywhere now, even when playing video games like Rock Band especially. The gloves add grip to the guitar much better than just regular hands of course, so i get higher scores. ^_^
I can't thank the maker enough. I've always wanted these kind of gloves and I got just what I was looking for!

great padding
I have been having a problem with my hand not getting good blood flow when holding on to a handlebar. I have tried other gloves with padding but these have larger and thicker pads. So far they have helped.

Best riding gloves ever, June 18, 2011
By Cracker pro (Las Vegas, NV, United States)
|

These gloves are just perfect. The gel padding is in all the right places, they're easy to put on, but best of all they're easy to take off because of an ingenious little tab sewn to one of the fingers. Just pull on the tab and the gloves come off. No more struggling.

I'm not very happy with these gloves., July 11, 2011
By M. Selensky (Oklahoma)
|
|
I didn't like these gloves the very first ride. I tried them for about a week and threw them away. First, the padding is insufficient. Any ride over 30 miles and my fingers go numb in both hands. Second, these are difficult to get off of sweaty hands. It is nearly impossible without pulling them off from the wrist strap and turning them inside out. Third, the black felt-like material on the palm of the glove comes off on your face when you wipe your face of sweat. Trash!

Great fitting gloves, November 5, 2011
By Michael Weida (Houston, TX United States)
|
|
I've been pleased with Pearl iZumi's products since they seem to be well-made and aren't overly expensive. These gloves are comfortable, and fit my hands well. Most clothes I buy are medium and my hands are average-sized. The medium gloves fit me very well. I like the little tab you can pull to easily remove these gloves. These were also much better price than buying them at a local bike shop.

good for the drops, October 12, 2011
By opositive (usa)
|
|
comfortable, thin, easy on and off. padding is along the parts of your hands where you grip the handlebars while in the drops. there is little if any padding in the palms where you rest on straight handle bars on a mountain bike or on the hoods of a road bike. i spend most of my time on the hoods of my road bike and on the straight bar of my hybrid--so, these gloves turned out not to be very useful for me. these gloves would work for a racer, though.

Really, just buy them, October 11, 2011
By The Scout
|
|
If you have never owned a real pair of mountain bike gloves, then buy these. They are great for hot weather. It's basically mesh on the top side, so your hands won't get too sweaty. The padding is wonderful. I always thought it was normal for your wrists to hurt a little when mountain biking, but after wearing these, that norm was thrown out the window. Save your hands and wrists.

Nice gloves, September 9, 2011
By Jeff Jones
|
|
I purchased these as my first pair of cycling gloves - so comparison-wise, I don't really have much to offer. However - I was previously riding without gloves and would start to get numb hands on rides beyond 12-15 miles. Now even at 20 or 25 miles I still have good circulation and no nagging numbness.
I have also used these flatwater kayaking in a pinch when I couldn't find my kayaking gloves. I was worried about getting them wet, but they performed nicely with no shrinkage afterward.

Excellent Gloves - Fantastic!, August 25, 2011
By AZ Overdrive (Arizona)
|
|
All I can say is WOW! These gloves are awesome. Just started getting into riding again - mountain bike on street and light trails. Hands were killing me after only a couple of miles without gloves. Purchased these Izumi gloves and the difference is night and day. Mountain bike is setup properly with the seat at pretty close to the same height as the handlebars so weight is on the hands and wrists. Gloves are very comfortable and padding is excellent. No problems with strings or bad stitching on the tips, excellent production. Would buy again and again. Worth every penny.

Have finger/hand numbness? Get these gloves, August 20, 2011
By Edward Giardina (Boston, MA)

The title says it all. I'm a beginner cyclist who was getting numbness in my right pinky/ring finger after longer cycling trips. Took a friend's advice, and got these gloves. No more numbness! Would have gotten five stars except they're not nearly as easy to take off as the marketing language suggests. However, small price to pay for much more comfortable hands.

Great padded gloves, July 5, 2011
By David Beidelman (Coopersburg, PA United States)

Pearl Izumi gloves have padding located on pressure points while riding. This works especially well with Mountain bikes on rough terrain. Only thing negative is the little material tabs that are marketed by Pearl Izumi don't work with sweaty hands. No big deal since the gloves give great riding comfort.

I trust Pearl Izumi, June 21, 2011
By Jon Luu

Lightweight, great design, great color.
I consider myself more of an agressive biker and these gloves really helped during the long hauls and the downhill trails.
The padding is a bit thinner than most biking gloves I've worked with, but if you have a nice set a grips, these gloves are a perfect compliment. I have been using these gloves for about a week, averaging about 20 miles a day and they have treated me well. The way they've been preforming, i trust that I will definitely get my money's worth.

Superb Cycling Glove, June 13, 2011

I got these gloves to replace some other name brand one's that I recently got. They wore out too fast. These ones are much much better and not even that much more. These are lighter, provide better ventilation, and just fit better. I highly recommend these gloves if your hands hurt while road cycling or mountain biking. The difference is amazing.

Good gloves, very nice cushion for long road rides. I went on a 33 mile ride the other day on my road bike and I have none of the soreness I had in the lower palm of my hand that I did before without these gloves. Well worth the money and good value as I got them for about $20 on Amazon and these gloves cost about twice that at most retail stores.

I've had these gloves for about 2 weeks now and they have a nice fit. They are nice and thin and don't get too hot while riding. I'm a casual bike rider and am happy with the purchase. Only thing I don't like is that it doesn't look like the graphics on the top of the glove are going to last too long but oh well, who cares.

I Don't Understand This Company, July 21, 2011
By Ray Woodcock
|
|
I don't get it. Their glove sizes are way too small. I had to order the largest size to fit a 9" hand, and it's still a bit on the snug side. So then I take the gloves for a ride. They have padding on the heel of my hand -- but that's not the part that contacts the handlegrip. So I'm still getting some numbness, even on rides that are not that long. Maybe making a bike glove is more complicated than it seems. But I don't get it.

Chinese made cheap gloves!, June 3, 2011
By Audiophile in NY
|
|
I bought these high-brow biker enthusiast branded gloves (Pearl Izumi is an expensive racing bike brand) because I figured they would be well made and of higher quality than other gloves. WRONG!!!!
In fact, these are the exact same glove as the Bell Pro-Gel brand cycle gloves for 15 dollars MORE!
These gloves are thin as paper, and the worst part is this: my Bell pro-gel gloves gel cells broke open!...and the crappy goo "gel" got all over my handlebars and hands and the stuff is some chemical jelly...from China. Who knows what the heck is in their Chinese gel? Lead, mercury, you-name-it.
I sent these gloves back. I wish they still made bike gloves in Italy...out of leather, and cotton padding, and made to last!
These gloves are Chinese, cheap, and potentially toxic when they bust open and leak on you.
Trust me on this one.

I originally bought these gloves for mountain biking, after about 3 months they were still practically brand new. So I decided to try it out for Airsoft, It keeps the thorns away, kind of tears away the neoprene holes, waterproof (sort of), It's really comfortable even with massive heat, and I have been shot once or twice on the hands, It still stings, but not as much as if I were to be shot in the thigh.

I have been using the gloves for (of all things) trek walking up hills with trekking poles. I cannot find suitable gloves for this purpose. The gloves are a bit tight but are very well made. I would recommend them for bicyclists too (as I USED to bicycle quite a bit). I especially like the non-obtrusive velcro clasp (where it is located - by the thumb).

Questionable Sizing, Poor Ventilation, Poor Padding for Flat Bars, November 26, 2011
By Panzermann
|
|
I normally wear a size Large glove, but found that size to be uncomfortably tight with the Pearl Izumi Men's Select Glove. Size XL fits more naturally and comfortably. Ironically, the sizing chart on Pearl Izumi's site suggests I should wear a Medium. I can't imagine how I'd get my hands into those.
When in doubt, consider ordering one size larger than your normal glove size.
In addition to sizing issues, the palms don't have nearly enough vent holes for cooling and moisture management. Prepare for really warm, sweaty palms on hot days.
The padding is also poorly positioned for flat bars. I've tried these gloves with two different hybrid bikes, one with fixed flat bars, one with an adjustable up-angled quill stem. In both cases, most hand pressure is on areas of the glove with no padding.
On the bright side, the gloves seem to made reasonably well, and the pull tab is a handy feature. I can't comment on their durability yet.

Hold up GREAT!!, November 25, 2011
By James A. Morin
|
|
I've used these gloves for a full season and I couldn't be more pleased. I ride 20-40 miles 3 days a week and do a century once a month. These gloves hold up well. As many of the early posts state, they don't look that impressive out of the package but I think they are very comfortable. They wash well too. I like them better than some of the more expensive gloves I've tried. After a full season the velcro wrist band that holds the two sides together begins to wear. No matter, I replace my gloves every year, and at this price......who cares?

These are fantastic gloves. They are light weight and provide excellent airflow. They have sufficient padding (since my handlebars have none, they're a big help). This pair of warmer weather cycling gloves have held up well. They have a number of great features which I cover in my video review. One thing I would add that I didn't mention in the video review is that these gloves are odor-resistant. I have used them in combination with other gloves which did smell and these gloves did not pick up any of the odor. I have worn them on at least 30+ rides since I have purchased them and still have not washed them (I know gross...), but they still don't smell.
I have also used these in a pinch once when I went kayaking and couldn't find my kayaking gloves - I was a little worried about them getting wet with the leather palms, but no issues even after seriously soaking them.
Make sure you check your fit - my hands measure 8.5" around the knuckles which according to the fit chart makes me a medium. The gloves I purchased are XL and decently snug - no way a medium glove would work for me...

Comfortable, nice pull tab feature, January 25, 2012
By ChrisBoivinKnows

These gloves fit nice and close, the gel pads really help manage the pressure points on your hands. The little pull tabs on the ring finger do make the gloves easy to take off - it's a very cool little feature. Plus, the color is awesome :-)

Too thin, January 23, 2012

The padding is too thing, and is cheap to the touch. Not good for heavy duty use, but possible fine for 3 months or so of light usage.

Great gloves!, January 23, 2012
By theruined

Not too much padding, but just enough to prevent sores or burn. Moisture control is amazing, they breathe just enough without risking comfort. They do run a bit small, but I think after your wear them in, they should fit well enough. I have no issues with padding or the structure of the glove other than the huge tag that is inside the right glove, but you could just rip that out.

These gloves are a great fit and I like the design a lot. The padding is nice as is the breathability. I haven't tried many other gloves so I can't really compare them, but in my opinion, they are definitely worth the money.

Screaming Yellow a safety asset, October 5, 2011
By Marie (New England)
|
|
I am a woman and I bought these "men's" gloves for myself, my sister and my brother-in-law. We all love them. They provide enough cushioning, and are highly visible, which is important if you use hand signals for turning while in automobile traffic. I also like them because they are reflective when riding at night. They are comfortable, easy to put on and take off. Normally, I take a large women's glove, but a medium men's glove. Since this color is not available in a women's glove, I recommend that women consider this glove. If I were to lose these, I would buy another pair.

Go up one size from what you might think fits, September 24, 2011
By Happily Retired in LA (Los Angeles)

These look great and feel comfortable when I tried them on the first time. I haven't taken them out on a long ride yet, but I think they'll feel good. I have short thick fingers and a relatively broad hand. Usually Large leather gloves fit me. I decided to go up to XL for these and am glad I did.

Pretty good gloves...but, September 23, 2011
By Brian (Los Angeles)
|
|
Why in the hell would they put 2 huge tags on the INSIDE of the glove? Really? Did you guys really think that was a good idea? The first thing I did was use a knife to take the tags off.
Other than that, the gloves are pretty good. I wish they had a tad more cushion though. Also, I have pretty big hands and opted for the XXL - I think these gloves run a little big, so the XL probably would fit better for me.

Great Gloves but run a little small, September 23, 2011
By DILYSI2
|
|
I recieved these gloves as I do most items from Amazon, extremely quickly and in new condition. I like the quality and material, but feel they run a little small. I ordered a large, but needed an XL. This is often the difficulty with purchasing online. Visit the Pearl izumi site for better sizing info prior to selecting a size.

Great Gloves, September 14, 2011
By R. Robinson (DC)

What can I say? Great gloves! I will add that I really like when you buy something and get a little extra. I was hoping that these gloves would be lightweight, breathable, and comfortable-- and they are. I went to get them off after trying them on and had to tug and pull. Then, I saw the little finger pocket located perfectly on the ring finger designed for your pinky finger of the opposite hand-- designed to do what? Ease with getting the gloves off! Wow! Five stars for that little extra touch!

Happy with these gloves thus far., September 13, 2011
By richard travis gibbs (pasadena, tx United States)

Recently I purchased a pair of these gloves (in blue) mostly on a whim to avoid shipping charges, but also to see if they would help with numbness in my hands when I ride. I found the sizing to be accurate, and the gloves to be comfortable. The padding is not super thick, but it did seem to help with my numbing problems, although I have yet to take them out on a long ride. I do also like the finger pull feature between the ring and pinky finger to help you get the gloves off without having them turn inside out.

These gloves run small, September 11, 2011
By honeycombcandles

Bought initially for the description of padding between the thumb.
There is not much there.
Okay for short rides.
I usually wear women's small or meduim. I wondered if the men's small would be too big.
They only just fit.
look good.
I like the easy-off feature.

Nice glove, but on the small side., September 10, 2011
By jmkiel
|
|
I should have trusted the other reviewers regarding these gloves running small. I measured my hands according to the size guide, but when I got these gloves, they were very small around the thumb. Not too small to not fit, but they're much tighter than my previous ones.
The quality on the gloves, however, it great. The padding is just right, and it's in the right spot. Plus, I like the tabs that are built in to help you get the gloves off. I'm pleased overall.

These are great gloves. I was looking for gloves to keep my hands from tingling - these are IT. They are very comfortable and will protect my hands from road rash - what else can you ask for? Well, PI has a great warranty too. I had a problem with another product from PI, I wrote to them about it and the item was replaced no questions asked. This is what all consumers ought to get: a great product, at a great price with a great warranty to back it up!

Very Nice, but they run small, August 17, 2011
By Brian J. Fritzen (Syracuse, NY)

Like many reviews have stated: these gloves run small. I ordered the XLs. I can just palm a basketball. I am 6'0" and 224lbs. They are a bit snug, but I imagine will stretch out. They did ease the tingling in my fingers and I felt the padding was decent. Definitely worth the price!!

On lower mileage rides these are a great pair to have. Doing a century plus, I would want more padding. Of course, I could work on my form, but lets face it- it goes out the window after 8-10 hours in the saddle. I have a death grip on my handle bars, so these do give me some sort of relief.

So far so good. Been using them for about a month now. My old ones had a bit of a microfiber area I used to wipe sweat off my face that this model doesn't have but that's really no big deal. Just something I have to adapt to. Highly recommended!

These gloves are well worth the money. They fit comfortably, keep the hands cool and dry, and the padding is exceptional. I cannot attest to their durability, as I've only had them a couple of weeks, but they appear to be well constructed. I would recommend these gloves for anyone needing an affordable riding glove.

More size info, July 7, 2011
By Charles N. Landen, Jr (Charleston, SC United States)
|
|
Just ordered these based on prior reviews. Feel great. But I think I overcompensated on the size based on others' experience. I got an XL and it's a little big. For a reference, I wear a surgeon's glvoe size 7. Average is probably 7 1/2. If you are average, XL is probably right for you, I would have preferred a L. Will post more later with info on durability.

Excellent Glove!, June 29, 2011
By CaptainAJ

Excellent glove at a very reasonable price. Word of warning, however. Amazon's sizing chart runs small. Based on the sizing chart, I should wear a large glove. I trusted my instincts and went with an XL; I'm glad I did. The XL fits snug, yet comfortable. A Large would've been too small.

Comfortable ,but order a size larger, June 22, 2011
By rsnyder

I bought these as a replacement for a pair that were damaged in an accident. As I am starting to ride to work, I wanted a pair that would help make me more visible on the road. These gloves definitely do that. They do scream yellow!.
I find that they are comfortable, but order a size larger as I normally wear a large and the XL are none too big.
The padding seems to be in the right places as it fits right in with my grips.
I do recommend these gloves to anyone looking for an inexpensive, but good glove.

Comfortable & fit well, May 16, 2011
By J. Bradford (VA, USA)

I got these gloves after buying a different pair by SixSixOne that didn't relieve the stress on my hands on long rides. If anything, these gloves have LESS padding than those gloves, but they must be better designed, because I haven't felt any numbness in my hands since! They can't perform miracles, if I ride hard enough I will usually get some minor aching, but they're the best I've seen yet and I have no complaints.

Nice gloves, April 11, 2011
By John Carr
|
|
These are easy to get on and off. They are comfy as well. I wore them on a 26 mile ride last Friday when it was about 40 F, windy, with on and off rain. Somehow my hands never got cold, but my buddy (with no gloves) kept complaining about cold hands, so they are decent for a little warmth. Hopefully they will prove to be cool in the summer as well. They look nice as well.
The padding is minimal but they stopped my hands from going numb which is why I bought them.

By A. go

Haven't had them for too long, but I already love them. The padding is all in the right place, and I like that because it is fingerless, I can switch my iPod w/ out removing the gloves. Also, there is a nifty little feature on the ring finger that makes it really easy to pull off the gloves. A very nice design touch.
Lastly, I am an average sized female, and bought the small, which is the perfect size.
