Product Description:
The Pearl Izumi Barrier Skull Cap is the warmest full coverage, cold weather cap available from Pearl Izumi. It's intended for those super cold days where you probably should stay inside, but the thought of that first race of the season pushes you back out onto the roads. The Barrier Skull Cap is made from two parts which work together to keep your head sheltered from the wind and rain while giving it the thermal protection to keep your body temperature at the appropriate level. First, the front panel is made from windproof Barrier fabric so that your forehead and most importantly your ears will be protected from the howling wind. This section has been ergonomically cut so that the ears receive a touch more fabric protection and you wonAAAt have to worry about the lobes peeking through. The fit is designed to be snug so that there will be no mid-ride slippage exposing your ears. The second section at the rear of the cap is made from P.R.O. Thermal fabric which will act as an insulating element for the back of your head. Anybody with thinning hair or perhaps a military cut will greatly appreciate this particular element. Of course if you sport the opposite stylistic option, a slot has been provided to be compatible with ponytails. The Pearl Izumi Barrier Skull Cap comes in Black and One Size fits all.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Ideal Biking Cap, February 3, 2011
By Yogi-Biker
I bought this even though I thought the price was more than I wanted to spend on a simple cap. I needed something that would fit under my bike helmet and cover my ears in cold weather since I usually get earaches/headaches when I ride below 45 degrees.

I was very pleased with the performance. It was windproof enough to keep my ears protected, thin enough to fit comfortably under my helmet and breathable enough to not let my head sweat. The only downside is that it is not very stylish-but I didn't buy it with that in mind so I'm perfectly happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  very thin, but warm, November 9, 2011
By l2 (California)
This is a great skull cap for bicycling. Unlike most other winter skull caps, this one is very thin, so it fits under a snug bicycle helmet with no problems. The fabric is stretchy and also highly contoured so it fits snugly without feeling tight anywhere (like cheaper skull caps often do). The top part of the cap is made from a thin weather resistant softshell fabric that holds you heat in if your helmet is highly ventilated. The sides are made from a microfleece fabric that evaporates your perspiration quickly and keeps your ears warm without shutting out road noise (for safety). There is even a slot in the back for ponytails (if you have one). Not sure yet how it will perform in freezing weather (since it is only fall right now), but no complaints so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect for cool rides, November 5, 2011
By D. Sooley (Ramona, CA USA)
30% of warmth is lost through the head and this skull cap is excellent for keeping in the warmth. Nice tight fit over the ears and a lightweight material that fits perfectly under the helmet.

Have tested this out in temps to around 45F and it is a life saver. This skull cap has made all the difference when cycling in cool weather. You can be in teeth chattering cold at the start of the ride and once you get going this thing really helps trap the heat and keep your comfy and warm.

Pearl iZumi makes top drawer stuff and this is another great product from them.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Decent, but one size does not fit all., December 10, 2011
By KTS (Houston)
This is an ok under helmet warmth solution so long as you are not going anywhere too cold (it is too thin, and despite claims to the contrary, not truly windproof) and so long as you don't have a head much bigger than 7 1/2. Mine is 7 3/4 and it is small. The result is a tight fit and no ear coverage to speak of. I am hoping that over time, with enough tugging, I can get it to stretch.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  V. good, November 26, 2011
By S. H. Khan (Albuquerque, NM)
This skull cap definitely makes a difference. When it is down in the 30s and too cold for helmet alone, but not quite the weather for a balaclava... ....this is the answer :)

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very comfortable cap, January 8, 2012
By Don Dailey (Clarksville, TN United States)
The cap fits very snuggly with the ear flaps covering my ears and does not interfere with my helmet. It is very comfortable and does an excellent job keeping my ears warm. I highly recommend this cap without reservation.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  One size does NOT fit all., January 3, 2012
By Chad H.
I have a small to average size head, with small ears/lobes to match. I've never had a problem with headgear fit, in terms of "one size fits all", with the exception of something being too big. This cap is definitely NOT One Size Fits All. I bought this cap because of the extended sides, hoping to get better coverage for my ears. It fell quite short. In fact, I get better coverage from my regular fleece cap I was using before. The cap does stretch a bit, but reverts back to its original fit almost immediately; leaving both ear lobes exposed quite a bit. Not only that, but it seemed to lack size from the front to back, as well; with an altogether odd fit. It seemed to "draw up" on every part of my head, even with my helmet on.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Spend Smartly in the New Year, January 2, 2012
By eagle4417
One may assume the term 'One Size Fits All' to mean that the material 'stretchs a little'. While the material does stretch to a minimal degree it is definitely designed to fit a 'small/medium' sized head. There is a double stitched flat seam running horizontally around the cap that's impossible to pull apart. However, I didn't notice the single stitched seams that run vertically until I tried to stretch the cap a just little. Thinking that I may not have to return the item if I could only get it to allow the blood to circulate in my head. That's when the single stitched verticle seams ripped open on both sides. I'm now praying that they'll accept the return of this junk in it's current condition. Please spare yourself the aggrevation!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Keeps heat in and moist out, December 26, 2011
By Maiaibing (Frederiksberg C. Denmark)
Use this for my fall and winter road bike training sessions. Good fit, and does what it should: keeps head warm without building up moist. Would have liked the elastic band a little broader or just a notch tighter so it could help reduce wind noise, but that's probably just me. Recommended.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  MISSING DETAILS, March 18, 2012
By Emre Isiklar
if your are not going to wear any sunglasses with it it work just fine. If you are going to use them with any kind of glasses it does not have holes for glasses over ears, so your ears open up.... you get a lot of cold wind. my friend got a north face model it got holes for glasses', so you got warm ears. one small mistake but very very important one. be aware....

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Just about perfect, February 20, 2012
By Skeeterfood (Marion, IA)
I've ridden multiple times in 30 degree weather and the skull cap worked better than I expected. It's very thin, but still blocks plenty of wind. My only complaint is that the sides could drop a bit lower to cover your ears a bit better.
