4.0 out of 5 stars.  They work., February 23, 2010
By C. Luckenbach (Los Angeles,CA)
These are pretty nice. They aren't too heavy, and they fit my size 13's well. The straps work as well as any other. If you can't use a dedicated clip-in pedal these will work fine. They do have an aggressive MTB style pedal, so if you use clunky trail/hiking shoes you may experience some difficulty disengaging your foot from the pedal. I suggest starting out with the strap somewhat loose and progressively tightening them to where you feel comfortable. By the way, the pedals actually say Wellgo on the side.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good value, September 12, 2010
By Felix Book Reader (Saginaw Valley, Michigan, USA)
Reviews are a person's subjective opinion so read all the reviews, look at the photos I uploaded, then make an informed decision. I bought them for a 20 year old Specialized Hardrock mountain bike that I ride on a paved rail trail and paved roads. The bike has 1 1/2" slicks (tires) and I replaced the seat with a Specialized road saddle (seat). So far I put over 200 miles on the pedals, they seem like a well made quality item. I did not realize how aggressive the teeth are till I installed them and rode the bike on a very short 8 mile ride. I wear walking style shoes that have a rather smooth sole which the aggressive teeth hold very securely and it is a little challenging to remove my foot out of a toe clip since I have adjusted the clips for maximum pedaling efficiency. If you wear trail/hiking shoes or a shoe with an aggressive sole when bike riding, you may experience some difficulty disengaging your foot from the pedal which may be dangerous in an emergency situation. The straps hold well and don't loosen up however, the straps and toe clips causes scuffs on the toes and side on a pair of shoes. Had I known how aggressive the teeth were when I was shopping for pedals I would have bought a road style pedal that don't have aggressive teeth. Even though these are Avenir brand pedals the straps have the Welgo brand embossed on them.

These are the first toe clip/strap pedals so on my first ride I focused on pulling up on the pedals which felt slightly awkward, after becoming accustomed to the new pedaling style I was pleasantly surprised how much faster I could ride and how much easier it was to ride against very strong wind. I also found out after my first ride with the pedals that the muscles in my legs that I use to pull with were much weaker than the muscles I push with so my legs and the front of my knees were sore the next day. Now that my less used front leg muscles are becoming stronger and I'm improving/relearning (by pulling)my pedaling technique, I am doing my rides in less time and am planning to increase the number of miles I ride per ride.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  There 400g not 280, September 15, 2010
By nate
Ultralight pedals that say 280 but put on the scale is 400g. My old pedals were 440g so I thought I would drop some weight like 160g not 40g.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Ultralight,Affordable, Quality, April 10, 2010
By Steven P. Welty (Naples, Fl)
This is a quality product from Avenir. A simple do it yourself way to easier pedaling. You would pay twice as much if you went to a bike shop and it so easy to do. The Ultralight pedals are just that light but strong. They rival ultralights that cost twice the money. I would recommend this product to anyone with no remorse.....

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good, inexpensive pedals, April 30, 2011
By emil (washington, DC)
I've bought three pairs of these over the last few years. They're light, stiff, and a good price. They aren't very easy to adjust of the fly, and my oldest pair have gotten a little rusty after being rained and snowed on for a couple years, but I think they're great.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Cheap and got the job done, April 13, 2011
By Doylez
Bought these for my mountain bike which I ride to work. The ride is under 5 miles but when lugging a heavy backpack on a hilly route, it can be tiring. So, these pedals help a little bit. Installation was fairly easy but probably would've been a lot easier with a pedal tool

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great pedals on the cheap., June 2, 2010
By W. Meyer
I'm very pleased with these pedals. They look cool, function as they should, are lightweight, and are easy to tighten and loosen (once I figured out how to thread the straps). At a cost of $18, I'm thrilled with this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Dangerous, March 19, 2011
By Surfah29
Do not buy these pedals. They are very dangerous pedals. I had the strap too tight was not able to get out in time and fell over. Injured my knee as a result. I then loosened them so I could get out of them. My foot slipped out and the pedal tore up my shins. I've had a terrible time with these pedals. I am now going to clip ins. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THESE! DANGER WILL ROBINSON DONT BUY!!! Jason

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great, lightweight pedals, September 4, 2011
By Holly Johnson
I love how light these are. Easy job to put on the bike. Threading the straps was a little confusing, but once done they hold well. If you haven't used toe clip pedals before, be prepared to have to flip them over to put your feet in them (like after a stop), because the strap side is heavier and rotates upside down when you take your foot out.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  They are what they are AND you get what you get... and I won!!, August 16, 2011
By rrrevinkevin
That's right!! I, THE ATHLETE, just won a sprint triathlon using these pedals. Cut my transition time WAY down due to the use of running shoes rather then bike shoes while on the ride. Now I will put them to use for commuting. ABOUT THE PEDALS. Retail always charges twice the wholesale value of a product. Wholesale is twice the value of the original cost. That makes these pedals worth the cost. Purchasing a lesser product would be crazy to consider and barely worth anything at all. These pedals will outlast cheaper versions by years for merely a couple extra dollars. Don't buy cheap unless you really want something cheap. IN the end, it is what it is and you get what you pay for.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Pedals, July 29, 2011
By Markgiur
For the price you really can't beat these, there is no hassling with shoes and no worry if your bikes will unlock. I just leave the straps loose so I can easily slide my regular shoes in and out. Great Product, would highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  My first toe clips, June 30, 2011
By JBona
For years I've been cycling regularly for both recreation and transportation, but never felt the need for toe clips. I bought these when replacing some old, worn-out pedals on my ancient ten speed. What a difference! I'm faster, more comfortable, and more efficient. It's easier to maintain an even cadence and correct posture.

For toe clip newbies like me, they do take some getting used to, especially learning to quickly get the feet in when taking off from a stop. The pedals themselves facilitate this: it's barely visible in the stock photo above, but they have a little tab on the back of the pedal that you can tap with your toe to rotate them into position while sliding your feet in.

They seem to be pretty well made without weighing too much.

They're easy to install, though they'd be even easier with a pedal wrench (a standard crescent is too wide once they're screwed almost all the way in).

The straps adjusted easily to accommodate even my comically large feet in bulky sneakers.

One surprise: the clips and straps are not detachable (short of destroying the pedals). Maybe this is standard.

Overall, I'm quite pleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent upgrade to an inexpensive bike., April 18, 2011
By d. (Atlanta, Ga.)
I went looking for toe clips for my hybrid bicycle and wound up here. I was a bit concerned about 1. Fit and 2.Durability. These toe clips have not let me down. I have a big clown foot (mens 14) and am a big guy. These clips are plenty large enough for my sneakers to slip into easily (little bit of a learning curve but that's to be expected) and they made of durable enough materials that I don't have any concerns about them holding up. Plus they make the ride MUCH more efficient allowing your legs to work both on the up and down stroke...

5.0 out of 5 stars.  First Impressions...and more, January 4, 2011
By Old Hippie (St. Louis, MO.)
Brief edit at the top... The more I use these pedals - the more I like them. Add some Zefal Bicycle Toe Straps (Leather, 370mm) for a more snug fit. And yet, the leather is easy to get in & out of. And now ordered a 2nd pair for another bike (6-27-2011). These things are GREAT!

Being on a slim pension & not able to afford high priced clipless pedals & shoes, I chose this route. Thanks to "Felix Book Reader" for the close up photos.

I tried some Sunlite Bicycle 9/16 in Low Fat Type Alloy Mountain Pedal with Clips and Straps, 1 pair on a bike a friend owns. Could barely get my size 11 sneakers in & out even with the straps loose. Don't know why the big difference, buy my feet slide in & out of these Avenir pedals much easier. Immediately noticed an increase in hill-climbing power & acceleration.

Although the packaging states ATB (mountain bike) pedal, I installed these on a Diamondback Insight RS performance hybrid. Can't wait till Spring to go for longer rides. Kinda rough in 30-35 degree weather for this old man.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  different way of biking, May 5, 2012
By elfmonkeyjack
This is better than the clipless for trail and street-it's so easy to put your feet into after getting used to them-I don't think of them now and sometimes forget my feet are in-they're tight around the feet but easy to slide of with full power and no pain on the shins on upstroke-I rode my other bike the other day with flat bottoms and had a hard time keeping my feet on the pedals up steep banks-I think i'll have to order another pair for that one too-it's more than I expected

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works as advertised without the larger teeth, April 23, 2012
By John Wilkes
I have no complaints about these pedals. They work as advertised. The straps must be adjusted minus instructions, but it was intuitive enough to not need any.

The biggest plus about these is that they do not have huge metal teeth like on another model of Avenir pedals I purchased. This allows for easy sliding in and out of with your shoes.

I've put about 1000 miles on these pedals on my cannondale quick 2. Just switched to clipless/SPD, but otherwise they were perfect, and a ton better than platforms

5.0 out of 5 stars.  easy installation, easy to use, December 24, 2011
By Da Da Gary (Hewitt, TX United States)
I had to replace my old pedals. These are easy to install once you get the old pedals off (if you are having difficulty - get a pedal wrench!) They hold my feet well and allow for me to add pedaling assistance on the up stroke as well as giving me a secure feeling on the pedals, but I can still get my feet on the ground if I need to.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Pedals, November 2, 2011
By bennyb4928 (Davenport, IA)
I use these pedals on my Schwinn fixed gear. I really love these pedals. The straps are easily adjusted. I have ridden in everything from boots to tennis shoes and the grip and fit have been perfect. I have ridden these pedals quite hard and they show nearly no signs of wear. Very good quality at a very reasonable price. I definitely reccommend them.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Good quality, October 26, 2010
By V. Broccoli (San Francisco, CA USA)
These seem to be pretty nice quality and are quite light. There is a bit of a 'claw' grip to these so I wouldnt use super nice shoes with these (or shoes that will easily get eaten up), but my basic sneakers have no problem with them. Its not too aggresive of a claw grip though.

Lined the threads with marine bearing grease and was installed in minutes :D - happy so far

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great pedals w/clips, August 6, 2010
By S Milefsky
I bought a pair of these pedals based on the previous reviews and experience with the manufacturer. Since putting them on my old Specialized Allez, which is a transportation as well as a recreational bike, they have performed very well. Easy in and out, good bearings, lightweight and operational in every other way. Great replacement for the Campagnolo originals, which were less practical.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Pedals and Timely Service!, May 18, 2012
By Michele Montgomery (Birmingham, Alabama USA)
I am new to road biking and didn't want to start off with clips. However, I also didn't like just riding with a flat pedal. I ordered these pedals for my Specialized Allez. They fit perfect, and my foot goes in and out of them easily. I know others have commented on the "aggressive teeth," but I don't see them as a problem at all (have worn Nike walking shoes and Asic running shoes). Also, the pedals arrived extremely quickly so I was very pleased with the service.

was not happy with the product at all. I gave it a 3 because I did get my money back quickly and easily.
You get what you pay for. I always use clipless, but was looking for something for an amateur friend... Go clipless so much better.
