replacement pedals for my son's BMX stunt bike, March 29, 2010
By D. Inskeep

Great pedals. Very sturdy and easy to install. Pedal design provides for non-slip contact with shoes without being too sharp to risk injury. This larger shaft size (9/16") is less common. Be sure to order the proper diameter.

Great bang for the buck. Light and maintenance free., July 25, 2010
By Derrick T. (San Jose, CA)

So far these pedals have lasted for a year with no maintenance and moderate pedaling around the block when the SPD's are not attached. They don't have the infinite smoothness of higher priced pedals but the bearings in here remain constant throughout use which is more important. So far the axles are still trued and reflectors have not fallen off.
Secondly the body is made out of resin and is light and will not damage anything they fall on as much as metal platforms.
I will definitely buy more (already own 2 sets). Do pay attention to the size.

I got 220 miles out of them, December 6, 2010
By fmt_doggs

Really I shouldn't expect much out of a sub 10 dollar pedal, but mine failed at 220 miles of hard riding.
I got them for an office bike that I want to ride without SPD shoes. After 200 miles they started clicking ... and at 220 the right pedal was grinding bad. Into the trash they went.
They are sturdy in appearance and the threading on the axle is nicely done. I'll get better pedals next ... and of course I'll spend more then $10.

Turned out these were an exact OEM replacement, which is what I wanted. They come in pairs, which I missed, so now I have an extra set.

well worth the price, May 22, 2010

For the price of these pedals, you probably can't find anything nicer. The pedals consist of a hard plastic alloy that resembles black metal from a short distance. Pedals come equipped with reflectors, but offer easy removal should you choose to do so, which is a nice feature. The threads on the pedals are sturdy and thick. When screwing onto your bike, they won't rip or get damaged. Sometimes with less expensive products, you end up with crappy metal cuts or molds, but I was thoroughly impressed. Overall, if you're looking to have a temporary set of pedals and you're not sure if you're going to keep, these are worth the price, even if you don't appreciate the look that much, because they can serve as a back up and seem to hold their value.

Watch the sizes, February 13, 2012
By Jeff (SE Michigan)

As others have said these are good low cost replacements, but a word on sizes. 1/2" are probably for 1 piece cranks and cheap kids bikes 9/16" are for 3 piece cranks, mountain bikes etc.

By Jackie Hagman (Omaha, Ne USA)

These perform well. I got them to replace my pedals that melted? on a fuji bike I have. Looks like
a little better quality than what can on bike orginally. 9/16 size worked perfect.

Good replacement for cheap walmart pedals, September 26, 2010
By jbird (Redwood City, CA USA)

Bought a cheap walmart bike for my son to learn to ride. One of the cheap plastic pedals broke off. Found these on Amazon and while also plastic, are much sturdier and bigger too. So far, so good.

Excellent quality for the price, February 12, 2011

I bought these to replace a pair of cheap Chinese resin pedals that had fallen apart on my old cheap bike. I wasn't optimistic about getting another set of resin pedals; I figured Aluminum would be the ideal buy, since they were more durable. However, I decided to just get some temporary replacements since there was no point in putting nice pedals on a crappy bike.
I was pretty surprised when I received them. They were much denser and had more heft than my old pedals. They featured recessed reflectors, a strong construction, and excellent 'teeth' that grip my boots like claws when I ride. The threads were well machined and it installed smoothly and tightly. They're also softer and won't do any damage if the bike falls over, which tends to happen with my loose kickstand. Overall I was very pleased with the purchase and probably won't be buying metal pedals after all. For eight bucks, you can't do much better.
Update 8/03/11 - I recently bought more of these to replace the dying rusty pedals on an old Schwinn road bike. I know that it's typical to get clip pedals or harnesses, but I think that for anyone doing casual, commute, or even toured riding these are perfectly acceptable. The threads have some sort of bluing or painted finish that will allow them to resist rusting (something my old pedals lacked). In retrospect they are somewhat heavy, something that pro riders probably want to avoid, but seriously my Varsity weighs like 40 pounds and a one hundred gram weakness compared to some 80$ pedals doesn't concern me. Then again, I wouldn't care even if it was my 18 pound LeTour.
These have good teeth, are heavy plastic and thus won't ever degrade, and have good reflectors included. I think that if you're trying to bring a bike back to life and just want some inexpensive pedals, these are a great buy, and I'll continue ordering more of these whenever they're needed.

Fits the description, December 23, 2010

Instead of buying a new mountain bike, I decided to renew my older bike with new parts and accessories. Adding a new set of pedals was a requirement. These Avenir are identical to the OEM pedals that came with my Giant bicycle 15 years ago. My old pedals were worn and had broken tips that grip your shoes. For the prices, I'm happy. They work great and don't slip.

Flexibility for cheap bikes, December 14, 2010

This is one of the only low price options I found for adding toe clips to a one-piece crank bike. Well worth the price. Otherwise the quality and feel are on par with the stock equipment on entry department store bikes.

Lighter than my rusty old steel pedals, but not remarkably so. Super squeaky against wet sneakers. Installed fine. Suits my purpose on a commuter bike well.

Big Bang for the Buck Very Good Quality, November 21, 2011

I bought these pedals for my mountain bike and they are great and look good too
Very strong and reliable. I put over a 1000 miles on the bike using these pedals with no problems.
The reflectors, bearings, construction and quality of these pedals are very good.
The pedals are as good or better than those pricy high dollar ones.

I had a mountain bike and had one of the pedal broken. While my bike is only $80 when new, I do not want to spend a lot of money in replacing it. The pedal is just like the original pedal. I could not ask for anyting more.

The most basic of pedals useful as replacement parts on an inexpensive bike, January 17, 2012
By Jackie-the-Greyhound (Spain)

My husband bought these pedals to work on a bike that is being donated to a poverty stricken area. He wanted something inexpensive yet durable as once it leaves here parts and repairs will be a problem for the recipient.
He chose this set as they were very inexpensive and he found them to be quite suitable for the intended use. He specifically said they were easy to install (vs some other pedals) and though he would not use them regularly they were good for the 'Wal-Mart' style bike he was fixing up to send with the charity (he basically was given a few bike frames and asked to 'please help').
He wanted to give them 4 stars, because they just aren't super nice, but I had to go with 5 stars--they are inexpensive yet good for the job needed.
He will buy these again for the next bike he rebuilds (hoping to have 4 ready to go by the end of February).
