5.0 out of 5 stars.  Very good, and a good price, November 11, 2010
By Fuerkraft (San Diego, CA)
I've owned mine for over a year and still runs like new. It has a little less power than a Bionx, but much less buggy and more reliable. I've owned about 7 different electric bicycles and this is well made. It's probably one of the easiest to set up, and my local bicycle shop did that for me. By the way, my Topeak Trunk bag went right onto the Izip rear rack and clipped in, almost the same as on the Topeak Rack. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  What an adventure!, February 3, 2012

This bike is really exciting my girl freind and I both bought electrics. It is heavy due to the battery etc. I had a pleasant suprise when I called the manufacture and found out that the price I paid was only one third of the regular retail price!Thank You Amazon.A good
assist on the hills for a 76 year old!

2.0 out of 5 stars.  so so electric bike, March 31, 2012
By TJSohCVcali
I purchased a used IZIP Trekking Enlightened from Amazon. It was labeled on the site as "Used, like new" which wasn't the case, but I addressed that in the review I did for the seller. As I stated, the bike is an older model than the one shown in the picture on this site and didn't come with most features listed like front disk brakes, Li Ion battery and cushion seat post, ect. Now to the review:

The bike frame and components are made in China, and in my opinion are cheap, near "department store bike" quality. The rear derailleur does not stay adjusted for more than about 100 miles before it over runs first gear throwing the chain off the sprocket, and it starts making a loud ticking noise. The brakes don't return to their home position after being applied, and you continue to hear the rubbing noise. The handlebars constantly come loose from the stem, I have had to tighten the hex cap screw twice already. Again, components are Chinese Junk, I would have expected more from a bike that reatils for $1800.00 new. (I paid $800.00 for mine. too much...)
The Mens Large comes with 28" wheels, and farily narrow street tires. On flat surfaces I can petal this bike just as fast as I can my mountain bike without using the motor assist, not bad for a bike that weighs 50 pounds. The electric assist does not do much after around 18 MPH on flat riding.
I would never take this cheap-ass bike off road, and fail to understand why they even put a front suspension fork on it. Additionally the fork is quite spongy, which robs your energy while riding on the street.

As for the electric pedal assist:

The electric motor works, and provides a boost when climing hills. It is a 250 watt motor, and after trying this I would prefer a little more power. As I said, it works but not without its issues. The power from the motor is not smooth, it is constantly jogging the motor to different speeds. Not too extreme, but enough to notice. The battery gage (as far as I can tell) give you an indication of remaining charge under the specific load condition. You can have a fully charged battery, and have it show almost empty while going up a hill. It does rebound and show full once the load is removed. The battery life is somewhat less that I has expected (much to my dismay mine came with a NiMh battery pack). I ride 13 miles to work, and if I use the power assist for only 6 moderate size hills and about 6 miles of level riding, the battery is fairly depleated when I am done with the round trip. (about 9 miles total while using the battery)

Bottom line: I would not purchase one of these new or used. I am going to start shopping for a good conversion kit for a MADE IN USA Gary Fisher MTB that I aquired, and hopefully get about 1/2 what I paid for this IZIP back when I sell it.
