cheapo materials, June 17, 2011
By iiigoiii

there's a couple of problems with these pumps, as other reviewers have pointed out for this pump and the original sport.
- the head can be difficult to get a seal with, especially on the presta side. it may take several tries before being able to get air to flow,
- the dual head is large, making it difficult to get onto smaller wheels with closer spokes,
- the hose material is a cheap plastic, not rubber - it quickly starts to crack wherever it's bent (near the outlet and where it's stored over the handle) and soon blows out.
their support company, todson, refuses to warranty the hose even though it's a material defect. instead of paying them a third to half the cost of a new pump, get 3/16" fuel line from your local auto parts store. fits perfectly, will last a lifetime, and only costs about two bucks!

Worked well with one minor problem which was solved easily, May 30, 2010
By Derrick T. (San Jose, CA)

This Joe Sport II pumped replaces the original Sport pump and the only difference I see is the metal air footing on this II model versus the plastic footing on the original plus this is slightly taller. It's very sturdy after a month of usage with only one problem--the presta side leaked air even though it was locked. I managed to fix it by reinserting a Schrader valve on the other side and the pump worked well again. Overall it's very sturdy with good balance and a thick stem and valve. This pump could be improved if the gauge is higher for easier viewing plus some kind of compartment to store the included accessories (needle and cone tips). This pump has also been used on longer presta valves with no problems and the Schrader side has worked flawlessly.

Great pump, May 21, 2010
By Robert M
|

I bought this pump to replace an old broken Gary Fisher brand pump that I bought 15 years ago. This pump is great. It inflates 29" mountain bike tires quickly and the gauge has a nice fluid sweep to it too. No complaints. Also has a nice big base so it doesn't fall over easily. As an added bouns, it comes with a cone shaped tip to inflate rafts and beach balls, etc and also a small metal tip for inflating basketballs, soccer balls, etc. The tips are held in a nice little area right next to the gauge so they won't get lost. Good stuff!

Great pump, January 5, 2011
By localkineguy (Newark, Delaware)
|
|
I really like this floor pump. That being said, I haven't used a floor pump that I didn't like. The gauge is very helpful, pumping is quick (as compared to a hand pump), and the unit includes a needle for pumping up soccer/football/basketball balls. Construction feels sturdy and it's fairly easy to pump up my road bike tires up to 120 PSI.
I do have problems connecting the Presta side. I've placed the Presta valve into the connection, locked it in place, and it won't pump. I have to unlock and relock it about 3-4 times before it engages and I can start pumping air into the tubes.

Better than I Expected for the Money, July 1, 2011
By Jason (Batavia, Illinois)
|
|
This pump has been working great for me. I'm always a little surprised though when sellers don't list many specific details about the pump, so I'll include a few features below.
Here are a few things I like about it: - All metal base, very stable - Air valve level is also metal - Wide handle with a rubber grip - Comes with bladder and ball adapters - Pump has a place to store both adapters - Head was just able to fit the valve on my son's 6" plastic wheels
Things that would be nice to have: - Pressure release valve - Pressure gauge could be a little smoother/more accurate
For $33, it is hard to go wrong. There are better pumps out there for more money, but for the price this pump fits the bill.

A solid, well-made product, June 26, 2010
By Christopher Braden
|
|
I've had this pump for two years now (it may be the Sport 1). If you are just a recreational bicyclist and not into competitive cycling, this is a very good, all-around pump. Attaching the needle for inflating basketballs, footballs, etc is a bit tricky to figure out at first, but once you get it figured out, it works well. This pump is well-made and has lasted through a lot of use and (sometimes) abuse. I have two small kids who drag it around the garage and drive-way, drop it, kick it, etc. It has held up very well. Other than attaching the needle, the head is a bit big and inflating stroller tires can be a challenge. If it fit stroller tires more easily and attaching the needle was more straight-forward, I would rate it 5 stars.

Solid, Easy to Use Pump, May 10, 2011
By GeorgeNJ (NJ)
|
|
Really happy with this pump. Sturdy, with easy-to-read pressure gauge. Gauge face is black with white numerals and a yellow hand. A moveable red marker on the perimeter of the gauge can be set to the pressure you want, making it easy to monitor when you reach it. I agree with others that putting the gauge up higher on the pump would be a great idea.

Best pump so far, December 3, 2010
By James Paine (DFW, TX)
|
|
I was looking for a good floor pump after having problems with the seals on a cheap pump I picked up a few years ago when I started cycling. I noticed that several bike stores in my area used this pump in their own shops. I actually considered the Joe Blow Pro pump as well, but one of the guys at the bike store said it wasn't worth the extra money. After a few months of use I am still pleased with the performance of this pump.

I looked long and hard before buying this pump, and overall, I am very satisfied. In fact, there isn't a thing I don't use this pump for. I've used it on the car, on my bikes, it just works. The dial is easy to read, and can easily inflate my bike's tires to 110psi+ It feels sturdy and has a nice solid base to place your feet on when using.

where are the instructions? otherwise it's fine, February 22, 2012
By mdiz
|
|
i read good reviews on this pump regarding durability, ease of use, and good air flow meaning less work on my end. as i'm absolutely new to cycling and owning a bike, i found all this jolly good and ordered this sucker.
it's fine, and while the pumping action takes a little more effort than i hoped, that's probably just more about my work ethic and less about the pump. however, where the frack were the instructions? all it came with was the little cardboard holder with a few doodles. i understand that pumping up a tire is relatively simple and maybe self-explanatory to some, but my friend broke off the cap of his presta valve because he fiddled with the locking mechanism on the pump at the wrong time and i was really afraid of doing that or something else strange.
i would have appreciated a little more guidance from topeka on the product, but as always, youtube saved the day. and topeka actually has a video showing you how to use the dual head.
at least put on the cardboard backing: for instructions, check out our youtube page!
that would have served to comfort my neurosis.

Great Bike Pump!, February 2, 2012
By K. Jost
|
|
I researched bike pumps on Amazon and found the Topeak Joe Blow Sport II to be the best one. So I bought one for each of three daughters as a Christmas gift because none of them keep their bike tires pumped up to proper pressure. One of them left her pump at home with her college bike so I used it just to try it out. It was GREAT. I like the lever that clamps the pressure fitting to the schrader stem on the wheel.
My favorite bike shop uses this pump in their repair area. The one I saw there was all worn and beat up looking. The mechanic said that the owners gets them a new one every two years. Given the fact that the pump works in that environment for that long probably means that I just bought our daughters the last bike pumps they will ever need.
The materials from which this pump is made look and feel substantial and sturdy. Pumping a tire to 100+ PSI is effortless. I would buy one for myself but am attached to the one I bought at a hardware store 30 years ago. But if that one fails, the Topeak will be at the top of my list as a replacement.

Great pump, easy to use and read, October 26, 2011
By Jon

This pump is fantastic. Comes in still under the price of other pumps with similar features and gets the job done with ease. No problems pushing my tires up to 120psi. Gauge is easy to ready, pump is sturdy as hell and the cap locks on to stems with no issue. My Dad was so impressed after one use he ordered one for himself.

Great air pump for the price!, July 5, 2011
By Ryan Loiacono
|
|
What can be said about an air pump? Well, this pump blows out air, just as it should. But more than that, the design is spot on. The handle is very comfortable and feels secure in your hands. The double sided nozzle is great for working with either Presta valves or Schrader valves. The gauge can be read easily and has an adjustible indicator arrow as a reminder of what PSI to stop pumping at. The unit is fairly light in weight and the hose doubles over the handle and locks in place, ensuring the handle does not open while transporting the unit. I specifically purchased this model for two reasons:
(1) Topeak Joe Blow is a well known and trusted brand of air pumps. (2) The location of the gauge is at the lower portion of the pump. (Some pumps have the gauge at the top near the handle, this can allow the gauge to break in the event that the unit falls over.)
Overall, this is a great pump for the price.

I bought a hand pump first. That did not work for me. Then I got this. The gauge shows accurate reading. Solid construction. Very sturdy. Fills up in just a few pumps. My bike needs 120 PSI. This does the job. Very satisfied.

Great Pump for the Money, May 18, 2011
By JPC
|
|
When I went to my local bike store and saw they had floor pumps with built in pressure gauges starting at $50, I knew I was going to have to consult my old friend: the internet - the series of tubes we've all come to know and love. Sure enough, this pump was available for around $30 with free shipping. The super saver shipping, although advertised as taking 5-9 business days, only took two to arrive.
As far as the pump goes, it's very sturdy and takes little effort to get my bike tires up to 80-90 PSI. The Gauge is not perfect, and sometimes doesn't give the right pressure when attached to a tire that already is near the correct pressure, but from what I gather this seems to be consistent with all pumps. It comes with the attachments needed to inflate pretty much any imaginable application (Bikes, car tires, inflatable beds, footballs, etc.) After a month of usage I anticipate being able to keep this one for a while. five stars.

I've had this pump for about a month and it works great. No issues. The twin head works very well on presta and schrader valves. The head is a little tight between the spokes on small wheels like kids bikes but with a little effort it works fine. Great product so far.

Best Pump I've ever Used, May 14, 2012
By The Amateur (Chicago)
|
|
I got this on a recommendation from a friend, this is an excellent pump. Moves a lot of air for not much effort. Makes a good seal and having the presta and schrader sides is a huge plus. I've used this probably 3-4 times a week for 2 years now and it's still as good as it gets. Only complaint is the metal baseplate can scratch your flooring if you use it inside.

Outstanding pump, December 27, 2011
By Alan Ebanks
|
|
I'm more than satisfied with pump, both presta and schrader sides work perfectly. It takes about 25 -effortless- pumps to inflate my road bike tires to about 120 psi. I also own a Bell floor pump (worst pump on the planet) and a hand pump (Topeak also). None compare to this one, I regret not spending the $35 earlier, and at that price it's a steal. Owned it for about a year, and I would purchase this pump again if I had to.

great pump, guage seems to be off so far., October 12, 2011
By michaelbuddy (STL, MO)
|
|
This is a great quality pump. The gauge appears to be off though, which is kind of a pain. For me its not absolutely critical since I know where I like my tires to feel, But if it has a guage you expect it to work. It may be getting better, I'm not sure. The first time I used it, it was way off. The second time, it was off maybe less. I haven't needed to pump my tires that much since I got it, but I've liked the build quality otherwise.
hoping this lasts for more than a few years.

Quality pump at a good price, August 22, 2011
By Mikey S.
|
|
I purchased a tire pump from a local sporting goods store and while it worked just fine for low-pressure applications (less than 40 psi), I couldn't get it to pump over 80 psi even if I sat on the handle. I promptly exchanged it and ordered the Joe Blow Sport II. The quality is very high compared to many of the other pumps I was looking at, and it allowed me to effortlessly inflate my tires up to 120 psi without issues.
The head/valve design is also very good on this model. I've had issues with some pumps in the past where I'd inflate my tire to the desired pressure only to lose 20 psi when detaching the pump head, however that doesn't happen any more with this pump.

Topeak pumps don't last, March 17, 2012
By Anne Shattuck (Amherst, NH USA)
|
|
This is my third Topeak floor pump. I've had it a few years, and I liked it a lot. It worked well and the dual head for presta and schraeder valves is great. But like the previous two Topeak pumps I've had, it didn't last. Parts on it break and can't be replaced. The durability of these pumps is just not good. Although I like Topeak pumps, I think I need to find an other brand that will last longer. I don't want to have to buy a new pump every 3 years.

Great pump, worthless gauge, March 15, 2012
By Chad (Ithaca, NY)
|
|
I got this pump to replace a cheaper floor pump. From the first moment I began using this pump I was impressed. It feels sturdy and was great at pumping up my tires. Unfortunately, the gauge is worthless. During my first use the gauge was barely at 80psi and my brand new tube(120psi rating) exploded. I tried it several other times and tested it against a different gauge and each time the reading was inconsistent and inaccurate. Maybe I just got a faulty gauge, but it sounds like others have had similar problems so this may be a common problem with this pump.

This bike pump works well with no difficulty Ive noticed so far. Also easily fits attachments in order to pump up basket balls and what not. solidly made, September 16, 2011
By R. Adams
|
|
This pump is really nice - probably the nicest I've ever owned. My one complaint is that it is a little hard to engage the lever that grabs the valve. On a bike tire, this isn't really a problem, but on a smaller wheel, like a stroller, it takes me a few tries to get it on properly so that air will flow through into the tire. I still really like it.

Solid pump for a bike commuter and general use, September 2, 2011
By Noe Esparza
|
|
I ride my bike into work everyday the weather permits. I previously had a cheap Schwinn pump from walmart and it busted in no time. This pump is way more solid and definitely seems to have a more accurate gauge (surprise surprise). Originally I was a little concerned about the twinhead but it just takes some getting used to. It is mainly because of the twinhead awkwardness that I don't give this pump 5 stars. Otherwise everything is great and it has been running strong for over a month now.

Excellent product, August 30, 2011
By R_Avital (Merrimack, NH USA)
|
|
I've never used any other brand of floor-standing pump so I have nothing to compare it to, and I've only had this one for about a week.
So far, it's great, takes very little time to inflate my bicycle tires to the proper pressure.
My bike is an old-style road/touring bike with 36 spokes on each wheel, so inserting the rather bulky tip on my tire valves is a bit tight, especially the part where you flip the lever to lock it. A bit of a learning-curve, but manageable. It makes an excellent, reliable seal when you lock it, and when you unlock, if you're quick enough, you almost won't lose any air at all. The gauge is fairly accurate, I just tested it against an Accutire digital gauge, and it's within 1 or 2 psi. There's a disk around the gauge's dial with a red mark that you can set at the target psi value for your tire, which is helpful.
For those requiring higher pressure, say, above 80 psi, watch the needle on the gauge and slow down when you get close to your target, because you'll see the needle jump way up as you push down, before it settles on the current pressure after your last stroke. If you go too fast, you might blow up the tube/tire.
Some have commented on the fact that the gauge is at the bottom. This can be a plus, or not - when the gauge is up, it's easier to read, but if the pump tips over and falls, there's the risk that the gauge dial might break. When it's at the bottom as on this pump, it's much safer, but of course further away from your eyes. I wear glasses, and I have no trouble reading the dial.
The cylinder is somewhat thick (I didn't measure it), as it should be with a floor-standing pump, since you have your whole torso to press on it, which means fewer strokes to inflate the tire. I expect I should be able to also use it on my car tires and snow-blower tires. The bottom is really metal, which gives you peace of mind, it won't break easily.
All in all, a good product for the money. If you live in colder climates, do yourself a favor and don't leave this pump in your garage all winter long, take it indoors for the winter, and it should last you a very long time.

Great Pump!, July 17, 2011
By Hamlet (El Paso, Texas)
|
|
After having an awful Schwinn pump that I bought at a large national chain retailer, I had to search for something better and more reliable.
I have owned this pump for 9 months and it still works flawlessly. It has a dual head for both presta and shrader valves without having to assemble and disassemble parts to use it for a particular valve type. With other pumps, you have to take out and reverse the components depending on the type of valve you have.
I found out about this pump after two separate local bicycle stores used this model in their work/repair area. I know now why they rely on this pump. Topeak did a great job with this.

Great features, takes a long time to pump, November 19, 2010

I love all the features of this pump and the storage area for the ball and toy tips. I like that it can pump both presta and schrader valves since we have both kinds on our bikes. Only complaint is that it doesn't express very much air with each pump, so it takes a really long time to pump anything up (which is why I gave it 4 stars).

Built to Last, April 11, 2012
By phoenixtoohot (Prescott, AZ USA)
|
|
I have road bikes with presta valves and needing 110 psi. This pump is well built and should last for years. Previously, I had purchased two Zefal Air Max pumps. The plastic head on both the original, and the replacement Zefal pump, blew apart at these pressures. I like Topeak's dedicated, two sided head, one for schrader, the other for presta and the locking lever. The Zefal pump had a slider to switch heads which added to its fragility. I get a little burst of lost air upon disconnecting, but I think that's normal and easily compensated for by pumping a little over your target pressure. The guage is accurate enought for me, but a little hard to read down at the base. I just use the little red, adjustable pointer, which I set at 110 psi, and t's easy to see. Actually, I prefer the guage down low, because the pump is better balanced that way. I have other Topeak products and they have all been high quality and durable.

I replaced a cheap, worn-out tire pump with this one so I could do my monthly car tire checks and occasionally boost up my bike tires without having to switch from pressure gauge, to tire pump, to pressure gauge, to tire pump, etc. Works fine and gives pretty accurate readings. I wish a manual or parts reorder form had come with it, though, in case I ever break a part and need to replace it.

I got this pump after suffering with a cheaper pump from the discount stores. I have a high end road bike and plus my kids and wife have their own bikes so a pump in our house gets used a lot. It pumps old style and presta valves. The gage will go past the goal presure than settle on the current pressure.
I don't have any complaints on this pump.

nice made pump, October 18, 2011

i got this pump yesterday. it is what i expected.it is solid well made one.it works well so far, i didn't find any thing to complain. the bottom plate is solid steel. it stand on the foor by itself. the barrel is steel too. handle is soft covered plastic. fits schrader, presta and dunlop valve . material seems all ok.
i recommend it.
the only thing should be better is: the gauge psi reading increase in 10 pounds.(0.20.40.60.), you can't read 43psi accurated. but bar reading increase in 0.2 bar. if i need 43pse, i have to pump my tire to about 3.0bars.
over all. i like the pump.

Good pump at a reasonable price, September 30, 2011
By E E

Pump is solid and works well. I have been using it for a couple months and I would definitely buy it again today. The only knock I have is it seems the black surface where you put your feet on the base seems to have gotten scuffed or marked up rather easily, but it is a tool, not a showpiece so it's not an issue. Good pump!

Quality pump, July 30, 2011
By Alla V. Farrell

This appears to be a strong pump. It has good air pressure, and it has more weight than cheaper rivals. I threw out three cheaper pumps in the last two years. I have learned my lesson "Buy Quality".

Topeak Joe Blow Sport II Floor Pump, July 29, 2011
By Leftygolfer (Kent Island, Maryland)

This is an excellent product that I highly recommend. It is well made and gives every appearance of being built to last a long time. I have tried many different brands of pumps over the years and typically end up purchasing a new pump every two or three years because of the poor quality of the product. This is a heavy duty solid product. Since I have only owned it for a short time I can't address longevity, but given its solid components I suspect that I will be using this for years to come.

Great product, June 29, 2011
By KaiNIGHT

This is my 2nd pump I have ever owned, and this pump blows my old one out of the water. Solid build, and easy to use. Only issue that I can see if the plastic foot rest, which is a little concerning compared to the rest of the build of the pump. Bump overall is larger then expected, but that is fine by me since I dont have to bend down to bump my tires now.

Great pump. Gauge accurate. Engages without air loss., June 21, 2011
By Sydyne

The pump works excellent. Have used both presta and schrader fitting. Engages all the way and locks for no air loss. have used to 120 PSI without issue. Gauge is accurate to all other measurements. I have not used a better pump. Highly recommend.

Excellent Joeblow II, April 11, 2011
By indojohn

This is my first standing pump purchase, although I have plenty of experience borrowing friends'. Solid construction, pressure gauge seems to work like a charm, and the valve is excellent--easy to lock and release, the seal is tight to at least 120psi, and no yanking to remove it from the tube. I have not used the schrader side, however, but I expect its the same.

Gauge For Older People, December 26, 2010
By Gerald L. Muffoletto
|
|
I have owned a JoeBlow Sport for 5 years and until 2 years ago I had NO trouble reading the gauge. Now that I reached 67, am doing dog training, and know color much better due to my eye trouble & dog work, I really wish that the needle were WHITE and the spin indicator for my pressure was WHITE! I also wish that the gauge placement was at the TOP of the pump with larger interval ticks. I always have to stop pumping and bring the pump close to my eye even with my 9 power contact lens and reading glasses. I forgot to look once and I blew the tube - nice explosion indoors.

Works Well, December 10, 2010
By tygertang

My tires are 110 psi and it took a tiny bit more effort than I expected but it got the job done. It took a second to figure out how to connect the pump to the valve but that's just me being a newbie learning how to use a product. Good buy.

Improvement Over Earlier Design, July 10, 2010
By Kevin (Springfield,Mo)

|
This pump has worked flawlessly for me. The gauge seems to be accurate and it doesn't take a lot of effort to inflate to 120 psi. Nice heavy base and excellent fit and finish. Yes, the included accessories are a bit lame and there is really no secure on board storage for them, but that's about the only flaw I can find. I am happy with the "twinhead" design and don't really think the "smarthead" would be that much more of a value as I think the internals would wear out. Overall a good pump, especially if you can find it for ten or more dollars under MSRP as I did.

It's nice...but..., January 4, 2012

The pump looks sturdy, somewhat heavy. which is good. First time i use it and the needle broke in half as i was pumping air into a ball. Other than that it works well.

Very poor product, July 7, 2011
By camper
|

I should have listened to the reviews, but I thought to myself, "How bad could it be?" Very bad indeed. It is impossible to get a good seal between the pump and the valve stem. I had to go out and buy another pump. Do not purchase this pump.
