Combining modern innovative with a sleek retro design, the Sonoma chainless women's Beach Cruiser will keep you looking good--and riding comfortably--whether you're heading to the shore or running errands downtown. The bike's chainless D-Drive system eliminates the trouble-causing chain and derailleur.
Sonoma's Chainless D-Drive System
It's the low-maintenance chainless design that really stands out, however. Powering the newest trend in chainless bicycling, the chainless D-Drive system replaces the parts of a bike that cause the most problems--the chain and derailleur. In their place, the D-Drive system uses a drive shaft with a fully enclosed bevel gear system to transmit power from the bike pedals to the rear wheel. Shimano internal gears within the rear wheel help the system run smoothly and quietly while optimizing pedal efficiency. At the same time, the Shimano "twist and go" gear system is responsive and easy to use, so you can shift with the flick of a finger.

The chainless D-Drive system offers a number of benefits over traditional chain bikes. In addition to delivering a much quieter ride, it keeps you from ruining your favorite clothes while riding to work or getting grease all over your hands while fixing a slipped chain. The D-Drive system is also protected from external elements, so it doesn't require the ongoing cleaning, lubrication, and checkups that a chain-drive bike typically requires. And the internal drive shaft is less likely to sustain damage from falls and road debris, giving it a significantly longer life than a chain. In fact, the D-Drive system carries a warranty that lasts for the life of your bike. Once you experience Sonoma's exclusive D-Drive chainless system, you may never want to ride a chain-driven bicycle again.

With the Sonoma Beach Cruiser, the chainless revolution is heading to the beach, the streets, and everywhere else. Other features include a unicrown cruiser steel fork, Kendra cruiser tread tires and tubes, and high-density dual rubber handgrips. Best of all, everything on the bike is backed by either a two-year or lifetime warranty. Designed to make a lasting impression, the Sonoma Beach Cruiser comes in a pink fusion color with arctic white and grey accents.

The retro cruiser frame is sleek and stylish.

Riders will love the dual spring comfort saddle.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Very nice... but lacking a little attention to detail, November 7, 2010
By R. king
I bought this bike for my wife. I really liked the idea of a chain less bike. The D-drive works great and Shimano shift mechanism is smooth. It seems strange to me to have a cantilever hand brake along with a coaster brake both on the rear tire. I've been trying to adjust the hand brake but still get some brake chirp while riding.
The fenders seem cheap and constantly rub. The bike is a beach cruiser with a little wider tires and I think need a little wider rims.
Overall it is still very nice!

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Beautiful, but not as sturdy as I'd like, August 27, 2010
By An interested party (USA)
I really wanted a chainless cruiser bike, so this seemed to fit the bill. It is a really attractive bike: bubble-gum pink and white with white-wall wheels. The gears and brakes seem great. The fenders are really flimsy, though, and have a tendency to misalign. The seat is particularly whimpy, which is kind of a pain since it needs to support me!!!

I am going to be taking it in to a bike shop to see if they can help me tighten it up so it seems sturdier.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  This bike is OK, November 3, 2011

I was looking for a new beach cruiser and saw this bike on Amazon. I loved the idea of a chainless bike, and thought it would be perfect to ride on the beach-- after all it's a beach cruiser.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed as it arrived with a warning sticker on it that it should not be exposed to sand or it could harm the gears. Oh well! My husband, who is an excellent bicycle mechanic, assembled the bike and to this day he cannot get the hand brake adjusted so it actually works. This isn't a big deal since the bike does have coaster brakes. On the other hand, when you have a hand brake available, you tend to think it's going to be there to help you stop.

The next two disappointments were the size and weight of the bike. I am 5'1", and the bike is huge for me-- the size works better for my husband who is 5'9", but it's a woman's bike and is pink. The bike is also heavy. A friend of mine just purchased a Trek beach cruiser and it's aluminum and must be at least 10 pounds lighter. The price was a little less. It's also the right size for her.

This review may sound like I hate this bike, but I don't. What I do think is that there is quite a bit of room for improvement. There s/b a disclosure about not riding the bike in the sand before purchasing it. They should work on the brake problem, and offer the bicycle in a few frame sizes. Finally, for the price they could lighten it up.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Good bike, bad fenders, July 27, 2011
By prgreekwife
The bike is overall good. It is sturdy, although a little heavier than I would have wanted. The fenders are awful. They sit right on top of the tires and rub constantly. I really couldn't even get the back fender on becuase it was such a tight fit on the tire. I removed the front fender after jusr riding the bike twice since it was causing such a drag from rubbing on the tire. It is wierd that it has a hand brake and a coaster brake both on the back tire. Love not having a chain!
