5.0 out of 5 stars.  Does the job!, October 21, 2009
By Rachel Millar (Austin, TX)
I bought this helmet for my 7 year old stepson as part of his birthday present along with a new Mongoose bike. We've used it for 3 months.

He loves the helmet (and the bike!). It fits his head properly and is simple to adjust. I can't say it's a sharp looker...it's a flat black color which I don't think is represented well in the photos. I thought it was going to be a dark olive drab color. Not a big deal. He likes it and that's what matters!

The helmet has held up to being thrown on cement, rolled in the grass, and used to smash acorns and shows no noticeable damage or mars. A good sign in a bike helmet for your child!

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A very good helmet, May 15, 2011
By K. Baldwin (NY)
The Mongoose Rubberized Hardshell Bike Helmet is a very good helmet. It is extremely rugged, well padded, and fits my son's head very well at 5 years old (he has a pretty good size head for a 5 year old) and will probably last him into his teen years. This helmet seems like it might be useable for more than just biking, as it is so rugged and covers more area of the head than most "bike" helmets. But I would check with the manufacturer before using for other activities such as rollerblading and skateboarding. My son really likes his helmet and wearing it when riding his bike, which makes things easy on us getting him ready to ride.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  nice helmet but too big!, January 21, 2012
By Margo
Nice sturdy helmet but bigger than other reviewers state. I bought this for my 5 yr old who has about a 50cm head (20") and it was way too big! The website does not state dimensions or age range.. but when opened.. package says "8 yr old youth". This helmet fit me at 55cm.
Does have adjustable straps but no back of head support or "webbing" as stated by other reviewer. no extra padding for tighter fit. overall good helmet.. bad description.. hope this helps.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Don't bother, unless you can return it., March 8, 2012
By Alliegator (Utah United States)
This helmet looks really cool, but can't be adjusted to fit at the forehead correctly (at least on my son). After a couple of weeks of wear, the plastic broke where one of the straps attach.

I'm not terribly impressed.
