May be missing mounting hardware, March 18, 2010
By M. Karson (MD, USA)

I recently ordered this item. The basket is great looking. Unfortunately, when it was shipped the mounting hardware (piece that fits onto the bike handlebars) was not included in the shipment. When I contacted amazon about this issue, they had me call Electra directly. Fortunately, Electra was willing to send me the missing part. However, the woman on the phone indicated that I got the "last one." Thus, the next shopper might not be so lucky. I would recommend ordering directly from the company.

Simple and Cute, September 3, 2010
By Autumn Brown (Houston, TX)

I happened to buy this directly from Electra [...], I received it within a week of payment; the basket was exactly as described. It was a little tricky putting it on but only because the directions aren't the best. My townie didn't need to use the extra rubber clamps that come along with it; which is supposed make latching on the quick release to easier... but it only made it more difficult. Basically; there's no space. It took roughly about 15-20 mins. And I had no help.... If you take your time you'll get it on with no problem. It's very sturdy and you'll have the option to lower and elevate it to your desire. I was able to put a bottle of water, a magazine, a sandwich and a bag of clothes, along with my phone, keys and ipod; without any problems. I received a lot of complaints... and cars seemed to yield the way. :)

The basket was fine... looks exactly like the displayed picture, and of sturdy quality. But they didn't include the mounting materials, and were "unable" to send them when requested. Boo.

Large size but light load, awkward mount, obstructs view!, April 15, 2012
By Cindy P (California)

I received my new bike basket, but returned it for another. The flimsy mounting system and wicker basket was large, but only supports 11 pounds. I had trouble with the install by myself so I enlisted my husband (a Handyman) for help. I have a ladies Electra Hawaii 3-speed, so this basket should have been a good choice...but NOT! My stock handlebars have a large/thick diameter, so we played with both mount sizes to find the better fit. Neither were exactly right. We wrestled with the mount system for over 30 minutes and finally got it on the bike! We had to turn the bike upside down...I held the nuts in place with a flat-head screw driver while my husband turned the screws with our own wrench to tighten. This was the only way we could keep the nuts from popping out of the mount and rolling away! After it was on the bike I took it out for a test run. The basket obstructed my view and felt really awkward. The mount holds the basket several inches away from the bike which seems unnecessary and odd. I tested the quick release, which stuck on one side after just one try. I'm sure it would have continued to be trouble and likely would break completely after a short while. I returned it and ordered the Nantucket Lightship Classic Front Handlebar Bike Basket in Natural Color from Bikesomewhere.com on Amazon. It went on in two minutes and fits perfectly with the adjustable leather straps... It holds up to 13 pounds, is the perfect size and shape, doesn't obstruct my view and looks great on my bike! Hope this helps you make the right choice. Happy riding!

interesting clasp, not as good quality as I wanted, March 15, 2012
By Merope (New Mexico, USA)

The basket fits electra bikes perfectly, though why anyone would want this big black plastic thing stuck on a removable basket I don't know. But here's the thing, it does work great, but I never take my basket off. But, if you are going to be removing your basket a lot, I would just get a basket with snap leather straps, much less complicated and quicker.
The basket is very average quality, nothing special about it. Since Electra bikes are so wicked cool I wanted their baskets to be something special.
Bottom line: it fits electra bikes, is sturdy, functions great as a basket. Clasping is large and black and very secure.

Perfect basket, September 13, 2011
By tiffknee

Unlike other reviews, i received everything that comes with the basket to mount onto my bike. Fairly easy installation once you figure it out, directions could be improved but that doesn't have any affect on my opinion of the product. Great basket for running small errands. NOTE: basket has a limit so you can't fill it too much with heavy items.

Worthless - Do Not Buy!!, July 12, 2011
By Chi60614

Stay away from this basket! Although the product specifications state that the mounting hardware is included, this is not true. I purchased this basket for my wife's Electra Cruiser only to have to return it because it could not be attached to the bike. The hardware is specific to this basket so you will not be able go get replacements parts and Amazon will not provide the mounting hardware. Truly a disappointing purchase because without the mounnting brackets it is just an open and heavy market basket that isn't worth the price.

Great Deal, July 2, 2011

The basket is very nice. It DOES come with the required bracket to attach to the bike. I attached it to the handle bars in about 5 minutes. I am more than pleased with how easy it was to attach. It was a better price at Amazon that the Electra site, and Electra was out of stock. This was a great buy!

A serious pain to install with a great reward, March 2, 2012
By Jessica (NC)

I received an Electra Amsterdam bike for my birthday and it begs for both the rear rack baskets and the front basket in wicker. I got this one because I thought the quick release was a good idea. There are websites around that sell this product and state specifically that it will only fit the Amsterdam Sport, turns out this bike is not in production and has not been for years. Either way, Electra's own website fails to mention this and that is probably because the basket will fit the current Amsterdam model.
What probably should have taken me 20 minutes took me a good hour. I'm nearly embarrassed to mention that but I think its important to note. The instructions are better left out, the fact that they included such shoddy instructions is comical at best. I would prefer a sticker or a coupon for a bottle of wine for when I am done because I needed it!
My process went like this: I cut 1 little section off the rubber strip. If you have the product you know what I mean. I wrapped it around the handle bar and then used the tapered plastic thing on the left and right sides. These open wide and will wrap all the way around your rubber strip and handle bar. This seemed the way you're supposed to do it. I then stuck on the quick release part and tried real hard to get the screw (alan screw) to meet the other end of the quick release hardware. It would not at all so I came in and read these reviews. Finding how-to videos or even a PDF is impossible. I don't get it, the internet has never failed me in that respect. Either way, one reviewer mentioned how he left the rubber things out so after a frustrating 30 minutes I tried it without and wouldn't you know, it worked. Note that in the middle of this I called Electra and made an ass out of myself undoubtedly. Either way, I stuck the basket on and then took it off noting the quick release hardware moved around a bit. there's nothing for the plastic cuff to grip onto. The rubber strips aren't there to just piss you off, they have a purpose. I am unsure whether this would have caused an issue but since I wanted it done right I took it apart and started over. I guess it is easy to now say that this is the worst thing I've put together and I do have some furniture from Ikea so that has to be saying something!
More frustration went by and I figured I'd cut the rubber strips in half so they only wrapped halfway around the handlebar. I replaced the plastic cuffs and worked my way towards getting the quick release hardware secured. It was so difficult that the bottom bolts dropped out a few times but the fact is, I eventually got it. The key is that the rubber strips should be cut to only wrap halfway around the handlebars and they're necessary if you don't want that thing spinning around your handlebar. Again, I don't know if this would cause any issue but it seemed like something that could potentially carry my wine home from the market, I think I'll use the supplied pieces.
I love the thought that went into this thing though. You can raise or lower the basket as much as you want or as much as the bike allows. It is real cute and I just love it on my bike. It is bigger than expected but that is ok because it doesn't look silly. My basket is on the orange model and it looks cute.
Also, I read all 9 reviews before mine and got worried about the mounting hardware. Whomever said Amazon wouldn't send it got duped. The bag clearly says it is a 2-piece deal and the mounting hardware says "2 of 2." I can see the frustration in people who had to find out that the mounting hardware wasn't supplied but it is supplied and I wouldn't pay $10 more plus shipping to order straight from Electra. I just had to have the orange cup holder and that alone ran me $25 shipped ($15 for the cup holder and $10 for shipping). Ridiculous but Amazon's savings on the other stuff made up for it.

Excellent, October 13, 2010

Easy to use, good quality and style. Only drawback is that it only holds 5 kg (11 lbs). When I put my Kryptonite lock in the basket, I cannot hold very many groceries because of weight restricitions. But, the quick release is so useful and easy.
