1.0 out of 5 stars.  I can't believe I wasted my time, July 28, 2011
By Jason Rueckert (Seattle, WA United States)
I should have heeded the warning of those before me. This rack was HORRIBLE. I was missing nuts and bolts to put it together and the instructions were just painful to even try to look at. What am I saying, they weren't really instructions. Since it was written by someone with English as a sixth language, their actual instructions as to what to do in any order failed on an epic scale. Please do yourself a huge favor and DO NOT buy this turd of a product.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  You get what you pay for, April 12, 2009
By J. Foley
It did not come with enough screws. Luckily I had some screws in a home repair kit that fit so I was able to mount it. Now it works great.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Rack--BAD INSTRUCTIONS, September 20, 2009
By THE BRAIN (LONG ISLAND , NY)
Great Rack--BAD INSTRUCTIONS. Bought this rack, and finished product is very nice.
Was Short one bolt, and instructions are way less than clear.
Otherwise I'd give it 5 STARS>!!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  College student's review, June 23, 2011
By Sushi
Pros
1. This is the cheapest universal rack I could find
2. It has a spring clamp on the back (perfect for holding things in place)
3. Came with extra parts just in case your bicycle does not have the holes to screw the support arms into (like mine)
4. The rack says it can hold up to 55 lbs
5. It looks very nice after installing it

Cons
1. It's cheap for a reason, a few of the nuts and bolts appeared to be a little rusty, so i don't know how it will hold up in the rain.
2. You will need your own tools (some wrenches and hex keys) to put it together
3. The instructions were terrible

Overall it looks and feels like a nice sturdy rack so far.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  solid product, good price, installation just ok, June 19, 2011
By LJG
Installation was a bit tricky, the included instructions aren't that clear and a couple screws were missing from the kit. No complaints since I got it on though. The construction seems really solid, heavy, like it will last through years of grocery transportation.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Not M WAVE, April 13, 2011
By k135
Ordered M WAVE brand, rec'd Ventura. Called Amazon to ask if I had rec'd the right product as there was no # on the pkg that corresponded with the on in the online description. They overnighted me a new 1 (awesome!). The exact same Ventura 1. I'm a bike novice-so don't know how much of a difference this is. But I do know amazon offered a very similiar ventura bike rack for about $10.00 cheaper. if I would have known this is the 1 I would have gotten anyway, I would have saved amazon the s&h. It is a nice bike rack though!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  not bad, November 9, 2010
By T
This rack was easy to attach, holds things fairly well, and is very helpful in my day to day use of my bicycle. That said, I wish I'd spent a little more and chosen one with an additional side post, going straight down at the back and then straight over to around the mounting point, to keep the bags I purchased from flopping back to touch the wheel.

If you're using this with bags that have a stiff board on the side that mounts to the rack, this is probably a great choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  A super plus, October 1, 2009
By Creative Specialist (Bellingham, WA)
This is the perfect rack for someone with a bike that is not the standard - I had lost one of my rack holes to a broken off screw and because this comes with adaptable extentions was able to mount it securely with what I had remaining - another plus is that you can adjust the size so it's not so close to the wheel and also the overall position for a custom fit - even with the adjusters - it's still very strong and has fulfilled all my basket needs

4.0 out of 5 stars.  over engineered, August 3, 2011
By Jay H. Harris (Minneapolis, MN United States)
Once installed, this is a good sturdy rack, and I particularly like the spring clip, the reason I chose it. However, it is way over engineered and needlessly complicated. I've had other racks which would match its qualities and were far simpler and easier to install.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  So bad had to return it, June 29, 2011
By Kiwidoig
Bought this with the understanding that the directions might be a little vague. But I wasn't prepared for the sub-par manufacturing that we received. My husband is a mechanic so I was confident if the rack could be made to work, he could get it done. First off, we were shorted nuts (just a time delay to find replacements). Then pre-drilled holes on the rack itself were the wrong size for provided bolts and misplaced to align with each other. And on top of all that...this rack is no-where near universal. Despite the poor manufacturing, the design would never have worked on my basic 26" cruiser. I would not recommend this rack.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  One flaw, August 5, 2010
By cww58
This rack is as advertised. Plenty sturdy for most uses. For someone mechanically inclined. A snap to put to gather. Took less than 10 minutes. The instructions came in 2 languages. Nether English. Hence having to have a little know how. Thats the only reason I took a star off.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Works great!, October 22, 2011
By Artsy Abbi
I took this on one two day bike trip and it was heavily loaded down with bags and it worked great. My husband did say that the instructions for putting it on were pretty much useless.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good rack, rough install, October 10, 2011
By Craig R. Cisek
Works as it should, however...screws from supporting frame to rack were incredibly hard to get into place, cheap threading. The front supports that attach to your bike near your rear brakes were a pain to work around. I think this rack was made for smaller bikes, I have a 24.5" Marin road bike, I had to offset the rack a little to the rear, to avoid going through my rear brake bracket.

The one great feature about this, is that on top of the rack, it has a spring tension lever, secures anything down to the rack, this worked great for when I would take off my sweatshirt, or really secure down my rear bike bag.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  screw missing - can't contact vendor, September 7, 2011
By Nan
I'm trying to put this on my bike but a small 'stop nut' is missing. I went to the Ventura web site and it's in German. Right now have no clue if I can find the nut I need.
very disappointing that you can't contact the company about this

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Instructions?, August 14, 2011
By J. Curtis (Maryland, USA)
This bike rack appears to be well built and has many installation options. It should fit nearly any bike. However, the instructions are pretty worthless, so be prepared to study all of the parts and figure the installation yourself. You'll need several sizes of allen wrenches and metric wrenches to install this rack. Also, I had to use a drill and a thread tap to install the lower bolts on the bike, but that was probably due to the age of my bike.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  No instructions, August 11, 2011
By ert9876 (Easton, PA USA)
Most of the reviews I read on this bike rack noted that poor instructions so I wasn't expecting much as far as guidance. But for the price I figured whynot give it a try? When I received the box you could hear everything rattling around inside, this is literally a box, with a bunch of bolts and pieces thrown in to it....no packaging inside the brown box. Once I opened the box, I learned that I had no instructions at all, but this really isn't difficult to put together, the bolts are different sizes so they only fit in the correct place.

The bike rack feels sturdy and is easy and fast to take on and off my bike which is just what I was looking for. All you have to do is put in to bolts down by the rear axle, and two under your seat in the pre drilled holes in the bike frame.

So far no real complaints on the rack.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Don't get it., July 21, 2011
By Sean
I bought this hoping to carry my luggage at school, but the instructions were terrible and entirely cryptic, and it doesn't fit road bikes of a style similar to mine. This has been a pain in the rear end, and I'm going to return this as soon as possible.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  A Good Deal, July 3, 2011
By Timber Merchant
As other reviewers have noted, the instructions leave a bit to be desired. However, a quick trip to youTube will get you a video on installing this rack. Instructions issues aside, this is a decent rack, given that you pay little more than $20. I've loaded it close to the maximum limit to make sure it wouldn't fail under load while touring and it held up to my stress test. It looks good and installation on my 1980's touring bike was easy. If you're on a small budget, this rack may be the one for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Missing parts, poor instructions, June 13, 2011
By newscarver (Winter Park (Orlando)
Not the rack I ordered (M-Wave). The clamp assembly provided to attach the rack to the seat stays did not include any hardware to attach. An alternate method was provided but does not supply a firm connection to the stays. I had to take my bike to my local shop and have them attach the bottom part with nuts they provided. At this point the rack is installed adequately, and it appears to do the job.

2.0 out of 5 stars.  Bike rack minus bolts, June 9, 2011

The bike rack isn't bad but, I had to go buy some bolts as I was shorted about 3 bolts.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Not bad for the cost, June 4, 2011
By Michael J. Sluka (Florida)
I agree instructions require some mechanical intuition. I also had to ultimately supply a couple of my own machine bolts and cap nuts to fit the particular frame thread sizes on my bike. But, once I dry fit/assembled everything loosely, the assembly fit became apparent and it actually turned out to be a good fit to a Schwinn Sidewinder trail bike. The only force fitting I had to do was put more bend in the forward mounting rods to reach down to a mounting hole Schwinn had placed in the horizontal cross piece between the two rear fork bars.

The forward connection is what is most puzzling at the onset, but if your bike has any pre-threaded screw holes for a carrier somewhere below the seat post opening in the frame, this inexpensive, but surprisingly sturdy carrier should work for you. The forward connection assembly has several sliding and rotating components to accommodate different bike sizes and frame designs.

About a half hour to play around with the pre-assembly and another half hour to tighten everything down onto the bike.

You will also need your own set of Allen wrenches for the bolt heads and metric wrenches to hold the nuts while tightening.

What you use the two post/pipe clips for is still a mystery to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Excellent quality, easy to assemble, May 17, 2011
By Franky
The instructions were just a picture and a few words, but really this thing is pretty intuitive so if you think about where things go for a few minutes, it is easy to assemble. All materials feel pretty durable but I think it would probably be damaged if the bike crashed (assuming it flips and hits the rear) or it has a real hard fall. I've been riding to work with it and strap a backpack and lunch bag to it and have no complaints. Its big enough to fit all that but doesn't make the bike heavy or awkward. Can't get any better for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Not a "standard" fit, May 10, 2011
By J-Bob (Southern New Hampshire)
I'll start off by saying I am returning this, but if it had fit I would have happily kept it. It's extremely well made. This feels like a heavy duty, well made product. All the sharp edges are rubberized and covered. The metal feels extremely strong and durable, and the spring is very strong. If this fits your particular bike, then don't hesitate to buy it. But that's a big if. First and most importantly - it's not wide enough for most bikes. I have a Trek 7.2 21 speed hybrid bike and this didn't even come close to fitting. It's about 2 inches too narrow. Another problem I have to mention is the instructions are beyond terrible. I'm hand and was able to easily figure it out, but if you aren't so good with hand tools or problem solving, this may not be the right choice for you. There's about 5 or 6 steps in the intructions, but they honestly read like they were badly translated from a foreign language. This really would have been a 5 start product if the instructions were better or it it actually came close to being "standard" size. If you have a bike that this will fit - don't hesitate. It really is a strong well made product at a much cheaper price than all the others on here. Just make sure it fits first to save yourself some trouble.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  bike rack, March 10, 2011
By Anne
Glad to have it. I'm visual learner, so while it took me a while to figure out how to put this together, I did a fine job. However, I did search the net for an e how video. It wasn't quite the same kind, but I got my 'visual'. Very sturdy.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  So..., May 19, 2011
By aethe
I ordered this bike rack as it was recommended for my bike. I did not receive this item, nor was it in stock. Instead, I received a Ventura rack. The item I received not only did not fit my bike, but I was told the item I ordered wasn't even in stock by the shipper. I have no idea why I was sent an item that wasn't similar enough to fit. I don't recommend ordering this without verifying that you'll actually get the item you order, it'll save you a huge headache.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good product for the cost, December 3, 2011
By jbray
This is an inexpensive rack that fits a wide range of bike sizes. I bought it for my son's bike that has 24 inch wheels (few other racks fit this size bike). The rack installed fine but I've installed many racks so I knew what to expect, had spare parts available, etc. For a someone installing a rack for the first time, I can imagine this one could be challenging as the instructions were not very useful.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  good rack, directions terrible, needed more bolts, February 2, 2012
By defenestrator (USA)
bottom line up front:
Good Rack, works well for my M-Wave 3-Piece Traveller Pannier 3 bag set.
Directions for installation were in German and English. The english was terrible and diagram less helpful then my own guess work
Not enough Hardware or wrong size. In order to make this work I had to go to the local Lowe's and get some 8mm bolts as I needed 4 to attach to my frame, the kit came with 2 8mm and 2 10mm.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  nice rack,,, after a hardware store run., September 11, 2011
By mojo
the rack is very nice once installed but you will have to either head to the hardware store for nuts and bolts or rob your own bin, it is a shame a company like ventura would just throw random nuts and bolts in the box and call it good, once complete it is a nice looking very sturdy rack.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Seems to be a good rack but instructions are terrible, May 1, 2011
By JP
Seems to be a good rack and does the job but the installation instructions are terrible, all written instructions with no photos, and the instructions are unclear. I basically figured it out by looking at the photo of the item on the front of the package. Once I looked at the photo it took me about 30 minutes to install it. Based on the instructions alone I cannot rate any higher than 3 stars.
