Does nothing for me., April 5, 2010
By Lee Henney (Sierra Vista, AZ)
|
|
Thought the product is sturdy and well constructed, no matter how tight I make the wedge it does nothing to quell the rattle. Putting pressure only in a horizontal plane is a very ineffective way to stop the majority of rattling which occurs in a vertical plane due to weight shift on the trailer tongue. I'll return it and look for a different solution.

Ingenious!, October 12, 2009

This little gadget does a great job! It stabilized my almost 400lb motorcycle on the back of an RV perfectly. I've tried other products and often I found they've shaken loose halfway into the trip or otherwise just don't do the job. Thanks for the quick service too!

Boone AKA The Wedge, June 25, 2010
By George L. Ruff (DE, USA)
|
|
I ordered 2 of these items for our upcoming trip to FL. One was retuned, and replaced by Amazon, because it broke on installation.
So today, June 25th, I went to re-install on my hitch basket. The first one broke upon tightening to eliminate the hitch rattle. No problem you say because I have a spare. When installing the second one, it also broke.
The part that is supposed to engage the trailer hitch to eliminate the hitch rattling is made of what looks like white metal, very weak and cannot stand the pressure of tightening the bolt.
Now I'm have a problem. Amazon will no longer accept a return, date expired,
Good idea, just poor materials. Look for something better.

Great idea, not quite as strong as I had hoped, May 27, 2010
By Avid Rider

The idea of this product is great. If the wedge and eye bole were made out of hardened steal it would be much better. When I tightened the nut down I ended up breaking the wedge and bending the bolt with out even applying too much pressure.

Worked As Promised, August 10, 2011
By domestic goddess (Massachusetts USA)

We bought this to help keep our metal cargo carrier stable behind our van for a 2200 mile trip from MA to NM. I had never used the carrier without the Wedge, so I don't know how it would have behaved without it. With the Wedge, the carrier did not rattle and was quite stable. For only $7, I would have to recommend it, for peace of mind if nothing else.

Worthless, March 11, 2011
By Jim (SC, USA)

Good price, lousy product. No stars! (had to rate 1 star so I could submit)
Don't know how it would work for anyone with a 2" receiver. Do yourself a favor pass on this one.

Light duty applications only, August 1, 2011
By gimpyinlincoln
|
|
I bought this device to stabilize the vertical bar of a Weston/UHaul one person canoe loader. It did that. However, the parts and construction of the wedge are light duty. Although I have not tested it on a heavy duty towing application, it strikes me that it is not robust enough for such a application -- many other reviews have found this to be the case. The Wedge performed as advertised for this light duty application, but I gave it three stars because I do not think it is robust enough for heavier duty applications. If you are looking for a simple, strong, and durable product to eliminate rattles and securely stabilize a towing hitch, I highly recommend the Stow Away Hitch Tightener. It's a matter of choosing the right product for the application and not expecting more of a product than it's capable of delivering.

not worth the trouble, January 3, 2011
By Simon
|

the tooth is too thick, it can not be inserted into the gap, only very little portion of the tooth edge can be inserted and the first trial has broken the edge. It it now worth the trouble for me to send it back but if you still have the chance, stay away from this product.

Does not fit all hitches as advertised, October 14, 2010
By TReed (SC)

I have a 2008 Nissan Frontier with a standard Hidden Hitch receiver and Master Lock pin. This product does not fit - the bend in the bolt does not allow the wedge to fit snuggly in between my Allen bike rack and the receiver. Good idea, poor execution.

Works great!, August 9, 2010

Product works exactly as advertised when used with a SARIS Thelma bike rack. No more swaying when going around corners. Very stable now. Added a lock washer to make sure vibration does not allow the nut to come loose. Made very well with sturdy materials.

Not Satisfied, July 6, 2010
By jmholton

I wanted to eliminate the bounce in my bike rack and thought that this device would do that for me. Well, I put it on and tightened it down, but my bike rack still moved up & down. So, I tightened it further and the black "metal" bracket snapped in half. It didn't bend (like I assumed metal would), it simply broke in half. I would not recommend this item until it's built with a more resilient material. Actually, I don't think I would recommend it even then because it didn't seem to stop my bike rack from bouncing.

Didn't fit at all, June 28, 2010
By sp58 (Harker Heights, tx)

We bought this to get rid of some excess play on our camper/bike hitch. In theory, it looks like it works well, but the guarantee it works on 100% of hitches is crap. We have a bumper hitch adapter for the camper and a Swagman bike rack. The "No Rattle Hitch Stabalizer" will not work with this combination. The eye bolt will not reach. I'll keep to see if it works with other hitch combinations when we finish our camping trip.

broke first try, July 5, 2010
By Mark Star (NJ)
|
|
I thought this would work but your hitch bar will still move up and down.
A single unit does reduce play but I could still easily move the hitch bar up and down which surprised me. I was able to remove it one time. When they say it also acts as an anti theft device, they are correct. Even after I backed off the nut, I could not remove my pin or remove the wedge. You will have to carry something to tap your pin out so it will releave the tension on it. This was my experience with a Valley/Uhaul hitch.
On the second try I figured I would make it tighter to see if it would stop the bar from moving.
I tried to tighten it more and the way this unit cocks on an angle to wedge in. made the nut get stuck at the end threads. I tried to get it off and the eyebolt just sheared off.
I returned for a refund which was granted. If they made the bolt stronger maybe I would rate it a little higher.

Works on all 2" and 1.25" hitch receivers ...........NOT, May 23, 2012
By floater (seattle, wa usa)

Product claims to work for both 2" and 1.25" hitches. Did absolutely nothing for my 1.25" hitch. It seems to be set up for the 2" and sits at an angle when tightened to 1.25" receivers.

Plausible idea, very poorly implemented., May 16, 2012
By ClayJar (Baton Rouge, LA, USA)

I was hoping this would make a good stabilizer for a new bike rack, and I figured it was at least worth a few bucks to try. Boy, was I ever wrong.
There are two main problems with this alleged stabilizer. Problem number one is that for it to have any hope of working, you have to have a hitch with such huge amounts of play that the hitch was likely made by actual monkeys on their very first day on the job. The fat-fronted steep wedge just doesn't fit in the minuscule gap left in even a bottom-of-the-line hitch set, and even if the tip *did* fit, the wedge is not long and thin like a wood shim -- it's short and thick like a 45-degree miter cut. The thinner the wedge, the more mechanical advantage, i.e. the more stable the stabilizer.
Problem number two is that the bent metal bracket (i.e. the black part in the image) is about as strong as a stick of refrigerated butter (or so it seems when it bends the first use). It is not even remotely strong enough not to bend when you're trying to tighten the stabilizer to get the chunky leading edge of the wedge into the not-nearly-made-by-monkeys gap in the receiver.
If they remade this with a machined block instead of the bent sheet steel, the bending problem would be resolved. If the wedge were far sharper (i.e. at a far shallower angle -- thinner, if you will) so it could fit in the gap and slide in while tightening the machined block, the intended function would actually be realistic. As it is made, however, it is designed for failure -- and fail it did on each and every hitch and rack I tried.

One awesome hitch wedge, May 5, 2012
By Jack Shephard (Darma "LookingGlass")
|
|
this is a wonderful tool to use for anybody who does any kind of towing, or attaches anything to their hitch ( think Bike Rack). What it does is tightened anything that goes into the receiver. The hitch pin goes through the O-ring, and each is tightened down the nut until everything is nice and snug. If you have any play whatsoever in your bike rack, this will make everything very rigid. I would highly recommend this to anybody

Was concerned but this works., April 25, 2012
By John Pfeil (Lancaster, PA USA)

I wasn't sure about this little device especially after reading the reviews, but I took a chance and I'm glad I did. This hitch stabilizer is light weight, seems like it couldn't possibly function as advertized but when the heavy duty stabilizer I bought didn't fit on my vehicle, I installed the Boone and it works beautifully. No more shake, rattle and roll. Couldn't be happier. I am ordering a second one today.

Doesnt work well, April 5, 2012
By Joe

Great ideal.. Just doesnt work correctly.
Bought it to help stop some movement in a hitch mounted bike carrier. While it does stop some of the side to side movement it does nothing for up and down movement.
Part also bends when you tighten it to where it needs to be to eliminate the side to side movement.
Needs to be make from stronger/thicker material and the wedge needs to be a bit larger.
Quite honestly, dont be fooled by the low price. Spend a little more and get something that will work 100%.

Don't bother, April 5, 2012

This thing stinks and does nothing. When you tighten up the nut on the I bolt the metal that is suppose to slip into the reciever and act like a shim bends. I'm sorry I wasted my money. Don't wate yours.I should have given it NO STARS. Use it as a paper weight, that's all it's good for.

Didn't work for me..., March 19, 2012
By foofoo

I tried to use this item on my 1 1/4" receiver hitch and it was a complete fail. It seems like it should have worked in principle. But it was obvious within the first few seconds of the install that it was simply NOT going to fit the receiver, and even if it did the physics (lever arm, vector of force etc.) of the design are so poor that there is no hope that it could do the job at hand. I bought this U-Bolt style hitch tightener: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001CMUV4/ref=oh_o03_s00_i00_details and it works GREAT.

Doesn't work on "All 2" in receivers" since it won't work on mine!!! As per usual "if it sounds too good to be true... " well we all know the end of that admonition... Being "mechanically inclined" it did appear to have promise .. but just like Obama ..... promises only are as good as results!!!!!!!
