The Mongoose Slyde girl's freestyle bike is an ideal choice for young women with an adventurous streak. The bike is outfitted with a handcrafted, high-tensile OvalTube steel freestyle frame and a Hi-Ten fork, giving riders nice control whether riding on trails or the street. The bike also includes sure-stopping front and rear caliper brakes and extra-wide 2-inch tires that roll smoothly over both pavement and grass. Other features include two-piece freestyle bars with an alloy stem, 48-spoke alloy rims, an adjustable quick-release seat, 20-inch wheels, and a one-piece crank with a 44t stamped ring. The bike, which is designed for girls between the ages of 6 and 12, carries a one-year warranty. About Mongoose In 1974, BMX Products, Inc., later to be known as Mongoose Bicycles, launched from a humble garage. The first of its kind, the BMX bicycle was named after bicycle motocross and was designed to fit the needs of the rough-and-tumble dirt-racing pastime that took its toll on wheels and bicycles. The heavy-duty, one-piece cast-aluminum Mongoose Motomag wheel was soon born, and it was the first competition-ready BMX bicycle available. Skip Hess, while in Australia pursuing his motor sports passion, came into contact with a strange and unusual cat-size animal--the mongoose. Known for its passive nature while unprovoked, yet vicious and aggressive enough to kill a threatening Cobra twice its size, the Mongoose impressed Hess, who quickly registered the Mongoose trademark for his new bicycle racing frame. The Expert BMX bicycle model, which is still a cornerstone of the Mongoose BMX line today, was introduced in 1980. Shortly after, Mongoose captured the first ever ABA National #1 Cruiser Title. Previously known for the 20-inch bicycle, this title signaled the re-direction of Mongoose bicycles to larger-wheeled, adult-sized models. Several years later, Mongoose continues to dominate the cruiser racing circuit with six National No. 1 Cruiser titles, leading to the introduction of adult-sized Mongoose all-terrain bicycles (ATBs). In 1992, Mongoose pioneered the full-suspension market with the introduction of the Amplifier. This design is still the most-copied suspension design in the market. Several year later, Mongoose launched the Newman adult bicycle frame, which is proven to be 15% stronger than any other bike frame in the market. The design, while functionally sound, also raised eyebrows because of its distinctive look. In the next few years, Mongoose increased its marketing focus to dominate the bicycle industry, and more important, extend beyond it. The Mongoose brand marketing initiative makes more than 100 million impressions. Mongoose?s brand awareness increased by over 130% in 1999 and solidifies the No. 2 market share position in units and dollars. Mongoose was acquired by Pacific Cycle, LLC, and continues to grow and prosper with more than 40 models of BMX, mountain, trail, freestyle, jumping, comfort, road, and cyclocross bikes.

Nice Bike - Bad Factory Packaging - Arrives Damaged, December 2, 2009
By K. Good (Monroeville, PA USA)

I would not recommend buying any Mongoose product, sight unseen, period. This bike, which was purchased as a Christmas gift, arrived in the factory box, as Amazon indicates. Apparently, Mongoose has a rather amateurish concept of how to box anything so the contents don't shift around in transit, in this case, resulting in several scratches and paint chips in the brand new bike. Nice Christmas gift for a grandchild, right? I contacted Mongoose "customer service" via their website e-mail link and fully explained the situation, requesting touch-up paint to just take care of the damage myself and avoid gift hassles. Their response? "Contact Amazon if there is shipping damage." I responded back that there was no "shipping damage" but internal damage due to their poor packaging of the bike components. Their response? Silence.
Stay away from Mongoose products unless you want to receive damaged merchandise, fresh out of undamaged factory packaging, due to their brain dead manner of internally "securing" the merchandise for shipping. Of course, it's always wonderful to get customer service from people who have no clue what that means.
BTW, I noted on their website an FAQ which included a Q/A addressing a question about obtaining touch-up paint for their bikes. The answer was "no, we don't supply touch up paint." They further advised going to a hobby store and trying to match the bike paint to plastic model paint. Nice response and product support.

Happy daughter,, May 13, 2010
By Daniel P. Mahalic Jr. (Palm Beach, FL)

The Freestyle Mongoose Slyde Girl's bike showed up unscathed, all parts included and assembled in 22 minutes. I read some negative comments from forCycling buyers unhappy with their purchases, bike related. I can assure you, I purchased 3 bikes, 2 kids, and 1 adult bike and we three are VERY happy this 2010 Spring! Kudos, forCycling...

Missing pedals, February 9, 2010
By so_cal (Fort Irwin, CA)

The bicycle is great, the only issue that I have is that I had two crucial pieces missing. The bicycle was missing both pedals and had to purchase them from a not so local store. I live 35 miles away from Barstow, CA on a Army base. It is a deliberate operation to leave post. When my family and I shop off the installation we must have a list of things to do, because of gas prices and distance. Thanks Amazon, you cost me an extra 30 dollars of gas after Christmas.

tough to assemble, January 11, 2011
By Virginia b

|
Lets see the tires were backwards, one of the nuts was screwed on the wrong side of the bar and too tight, took 2 hrs. to get off, then once that was done the tire was flat, plus it cost 122.00 for shipping.

You Get What You Pay For, January 10, 2011
By EdHunter23
|
|
The bike arrived with a bent fork, and the front rim was warped. Also, the back wheel nut had been put on so tight with an air-tool that the metal under it was dented in, and when I tried to loosen it to tighten the chain, the nut started stripping.
Pros: The bike was reasonably priced.
Cons: I immediately had to take it in to a bike shop just to make the bike usable.
It's probably worth the extra money to buy a quality bike.

Good buy but not great build, June 14, 2011
By M. Thatte (Ann Arbor, MI United States)

Overall, I am satisfied with this bike. I bought it from Amazon since it was back-ordered at my local Target and K-Mart stores. It was more expensive to buy it at Amazon, but was delivered on-time. The assembly was difficult because the pedal threads were off. The build quality is not very good. Once the assembly was complete, everything worked fine. My daughter loves riding on it.

Great bike!, December 19, 2010

I purchased this bike for my daughter, on sale with Amazon at $79.99 with super saver shipping. It arrived within 2 days, packaged just fine, and assembled very easily. It's a great quality bike, for what I believe, at an excellent price. We had to tinker a bit with brake adjustment but it rides beautifully. So glad we made this choice.
