Rated at 4 Pounds, April 21, 2010
By Eclectic1 in NM (New Mexico)

The basket is fantastic, easy to use and very easy to remove from the bike, and very strong, but just like everything, it is only as strong as the weakest point, and the mounting hardware is all plastic, and one thing that is not mentioned in the description is that it is only rated at 4 or 6 pounds I cant remember exactly , a half gallon of milk weighs 4 pounds! The picture on the packaging shows about 20 pounds of groceries, and if you put that much in the basket the mount twists and tries to slide off the handlebar neck, that could be a killer because the basket would then hit the front wheel and down you go. That would be really sad for that 8 pound dog mentioned in another review. If the mount was metal it would have a 5 star rating but this is dangerous the way it is made, it got 2 stars because of the really handy basket, but if its filled with anything besides feathers its overloaded, and thats by the manufactures numbers.

bike basket, September 12, 2009

Great item!! easy to install and easy to use. Haven't had any problems with it since we've purchased. Another thing I liked about this basket is that it's made of medal and seems to look like it will last longer than a regular basket. The size of the product is great! not too big, not too small. Goldylocks has found her bike basket.

Product as advertised, November 1, 2009
By H. L. Chieng

Very good basket! Works as advertised!
This is really the perfect size, big enough to fit a small 8lb dog (not that I would know).
It is well built and still as sturdy as the day we bought it!
You won't regret this purchase if you're in the market for a functional basket.

Weak Plastic Mounting Hardware, June 15, 2010

The plastic mounting hardware is not durable. After 4 days of owning and using this basket, the mounting hardware broke, leaving me without a way to get my things home from work today.

Easy to install on my new Raleigh comfort bike. Perfect fit. Exactly what I was looking for, and a lot cheaper than the ones at the bike shop.

Mount cheap and too small for bike, September 8, 2010
By Heather
|
|
Pros: Sturdy metal basket.
Easy to take on and off bike.
Has a handle so the basket can be carried around when not on the bike.
Cons: The mounting unit is made of plastic - unfortunate when the rest of it is metal.
The part of the mounting unit that goes around the handle bars is too small for my bike, which has padded handles. Its possible that with longer screws I could make it work, but the curvature still wouldn't be right.
It uses a zip-tie as a third point of attachment to the bike. This seemed pretty cheap to me, plus if you want to take the mount off, you will have to go out and buy new zip ties (not something I have just laying around the house).
In the end, I returned the basket because I wanted something that would fit my handle bars without a lot of adjusting on my part.

Nice Basket with limiting factors, August 29, 2010
By PredG (Bakersfield, CA United States)

This is a very nice basket and very reasonable for the cost but it has some significant limiting factors & parameters.
Pro's: neat metal basket seems durable enough, quick-releases easily, installs easily, handle on basket makes for handy carrying. Good for carrying light loads (purses, doo-dads, etc.)
Negatives: handle-bar rack is plastic and will probably break if heavily loaded. Connects to the handlebar with two small clamps which will only fit smaller diameter handlebars. Cannot be modified to fit larger diameter handlebars. (My bars are too big in diameter so I can't use the basket.) Consumes a lot of handlebar space so ya gotta find another place for all the other handlebar stuff (lights, bells, etc.) which becomes more of problem with shorter or bendy handlebars.
Its nice enough (and cheap enough) that I'm going to keep it and make it work on another bike. But I can't make it work on the bike I bought it for.

detachable bike basket, June 9, 2010
By Renee H. (Wichita, KS)

Bought this for my cruiser. Installation was a little confusing, but once figured out it went on easily and works great! Nice size, big enough for a bag of groceries if you choose to bike to the market, or for a small dog if you like for yours to tag along. I use it mainly for my keys, phone and water. Love my basket!

Serious Design Flaw, August 28, 2011
By JRF

As more weight is added to the basket, the stress pulls against very small screws that are only embedded in the plastic mounting bracket. There is NO WAY you could hold much weight until these screws pull out and the basket falls forward, dumping its contents! I tested it and the small screws pulled out at about three pounds of weight. A good design would have the mounting bracket have solid plastic over the top and around the back of the handlebar to take up the forward stress with the small screwed-in piece that holds the bracket on the handlebar coming up from the bottom where there is no stress. But, alas, that thought did not occur to the designer! Dump this basket before it dumps your books, dinner, dog, whatever, in the road! If you insist on keeping it, replace the small screws in the bracket with MUCH larger ones. Bon Chance!

Great for a quick trip to the grocery store, December 19, 2009
By Book Lover

The basket really does release easily. Because it has a handle, I can take this into the store and avoid using either paper or plastic bags. I put my groceries right into the basket, so I don't have to worry that I might be buying more than will fit. Handy and convenient. Now I just need to find some flowers to decorate it with.

I needed the basket for my bike. I don't drive often because i live so close to work and i live in florida so it's always nice out for a bike ride. It's great and easy to attach and to detach to my bike. and it's large for if i end up grabbing a couple of things from the grocery store that I wasn't planning on getting.

Bell Quick Release Handlebar Basket Review, June 8, 2010

I am completely satisfied with this bike basket. It is large enough to hold what I need on a bike trip without being cumbersome. It releases easily so I can carry it into stores. I would recommend this basket.

Mounting Brackets too Small for My Handlebars, September 9, 2010
By PG (New York)
|
|
The supplied mounting brackets are too small to fit on the handlebars of either of my bikes so I have to return the product, which is very inconvenient. The product description doesn't specify a maximum handlebar diameter, and when I contacted Bell by phone they informed me that they don't provide an adapter. After carefully reading the reviews I see that others have had this problem.

Bell handlebar basket, July 1, 2010
By Linda Lenz

It was very easy to install. I did it myself without my husbands help. It fits the bike just fine. It is lightweight and does not affect the ride. I did have to relocate the front reflector that was on the bike. I just put it on the front of the basket.

bike mesh basket, March 2, 2011
By harry
|
|
The bike basket is so easy to attach to the
Iped bike. I love the size and the mesh construction.
It can hold water bottles, sweaters, glasses, etc.
It's well worth the $15. The Iped folding bike
for $150 was also a very good buy.

excellent, May 12, 2010

This has to be one of the best designs. The push-button easily detaches the basket, which may then be used as a shopping basket. On a personal note: While my bike was propped up on its kickstand, a rogue wind puhsed the bike on its side, and bent the basket, slightly. I was able to restore its shape without much difficulty. The basket remains quite sturdy, and can support several pounds of groceries, no problem. It's nice to have my own shopping basket---the ones at the store aren't particularly tidy.

A Very Nice Basket That Caused A Bunch of Other Problems, November 21, 2011
By The Readingmaniac
|
|
This basket works just fine. Unfortunately, it does not work very well with my bike. In the first place, I found it difficult to install. You need to use an allen wrench to drop down the little bar that rests against the main frame of your bike and then screw the circular pieces around the handlebars. My handlebars were way too big for the circular pieces, though, so I had to go buy longer screws and make a makeshift solution. Additionally, the bar that rests against the main frame of your bike to help support the basket presses down my brake wire. That means whenever I have something heavy in my basket the brakes are perpetually part-way shut. Makes it very difficult to bike up a hill. So, yeah, no complaints about the basket itself, just check your bike beforehand to make sure the basket will work. If you have a brake wire running down the main frame of your bike in front of your handle bars, find a different basket.

good basket, March 9, 2011
By toy
|
|
its actually a pretty good basket, its a decent size and it wont break on you. the only problem is that after a while the piece at the back that is supposed to hold up the basket and keep it from sliding down starts to wear down or shift so the actual basket starts to sag/droop drown. (so the basket will go from looking like a U (from the side) to shifting about 45deg until it takes on a shape in btwn a U and a C. Although none of my items ever fell out, it is just a heads up.
Hope that helped. :)

Nice size, April 10, 2010
By Sandy (Boston)

This basket is a nice size and was easy to install. The only thing I had to change was the configuration of my front lights because I did have to remove them to attach the basket. But an extra reflector attached to the basket should solve the problem for the rare time I'm out at night with it.

too heavy, September 27, 2010
By rubinroma (NY USA)

Be careful this item weight 2,5 pounds. It's written on the basket: don't exceed 4 pounds(for safety reasons) Is it worthy to carry 4 pounds in the basket of 2,5 pounds? It should had been made of some mesh tissue, or canvas; besides, it's volume is rather small.Useless.
