Works like a charm, August 22, 2011

I bought this as an upgrade to my walmart schwinn alum. comp. The FD that came with this bike was terrible - (no-name) - it made noise, didn't shift unless i pumped my shimano shifter regardless of how I adjusted it.
The install was fairly easy and once adjusted properly, the difference was night and day. No noise in any combination of gears and shifting is quick and consistent with no need to pump shifter etc. After a couple day's use and 1 bumpy trail day it still works like new.
Definite upgrade for those of us who buy dept. bikes with cheap front derailleurs.
Solid 5 stars.

A quality derailleur at a good price, July 11, 2011

I got this derailleur to replace a crappy one found on a department store mountain bike. I saw a big improvement in shifting consistency, chain noise and quality of the materials/fastening hardware.
The fastening hardware was of good quality and comes slightly greased, making it less likely that it will be stripped in the future.
The derailleur comes with a set of instructions and 2 sets of shims -- Medium and Small -- for the various seat tube diameters. The shifter cable can be run from the top or the bottom (dual-pull).
Derailleur does not wobble and moves consistently. In my case, the upgrade made sense in terms of value because it reduced chain noise, made shifting easier and more consistent, and reduced the chances the derailleur would move/bend and require re-tuning.

Great Deraileur, September 9, 2011

Hard to believe this derailleur is as cheap as it is. Shifts better than expected. If you're debating Alivio vs. X?, go with the Alivio, you won't regret it.

A great choice for a replacement front derailleur, August 18, 2011

This worked perfectly on my 2000 Trek 4500. The original e-type (bottom-bracket mounted) front derailleur had to go because I could not find a compatible bottom backet. This worked perfectly and fit low enough so as not to interfere with the seat tube water bottle braze-ons.

Works ok...bad cosmetic and component., September 27, 2011

Pro: Shifts through all 3 gears.
Con: Limit Screws Stripped because the gears are has stronger resistance than the screws. -I am able to preset the L/H limit by shifting to 2nd gear but it's really a blind guess at this point.
Before discovering this solution I also try really hard to adjust the L/H but then the plastic cap popped off.
Overall: Poor quality and shifts a bit better than my stock derailleur. I want to return it but I am too lazy to take off the chain. Maybe I'll do it since its raining all week and then I'll return it.
