Amazing stuff, May 26, 2010
By Electrical Engineer (Lunenburg, MA United States)

I've used Finish Line Speed Degreaser for cleaning the cassette, chain, and pulleys on my road bike and it works great. I've also used it for getting grease out of a jacket. The grease just vanishes. The fumes are powerful - only use this in a well ventilated space. And also be careful with overspray because it can take off stickers.

Must have for cleaning your bike., August 27, 2009
By Jefferson Miller (Twinsburg, OH USA)

spend hours cleaning your bike with a toothbrush and rags, or spend 30 seconds with this can. cleans literally anything on the chain, shifters, tires, or anywhere else. removes years of dirt and grease, revealing the metal underneath, all black that is not painted will be removed, allowing you to easily spot wear and leaving your bike looking new. on the downside, the whole can is gone in under 30 seconds, so I recommend purchasing 2. the spray will remove all traces of lubricant, so i recommend Boeshield T9 4oz Squeeze, Single bottle

Works As Advertised, February 11, 2011
By Larry (California)

Finish Line Speed Degreaser effectively removed 90 percent of the hardened grease and crud from the front and rear sprocket and derailleurs of my 25 year old Trek 830 mountain bike. I never bothered to clean the gears or shifting mechanism for 25 years. Yes, yes, i know...but everything worked fine so why bother? Finally, after replacing the old, rusted shift and brake cables with new stainless steel ones, and installing new front and rear brakes (the whole brake, not just the pads) I started to have shifting problems.
I have to admit to lots of doubts about the ability of anything to actually remove 25 years of crud, but this stuff really worked. The small residue left was mainly strings, threads and whatever was not simply grease and dirt. With all the crud removed, the residue was easy to pull off the gears and derailleurs and then adjust them.
The parts dried in just a few minutes and required lubrication since Finish Line removed all grease and oil.
If you're going to do heavy duty cleaning place something under the parts to catch the runoff. The parts themselves will dry in just a few minutes and be ready to lube, but the runoff will hang around and stain whatever it falls on.
Finish Line is expensive, but worth the money imo.

Twice the price of comparable products, November 16, 2011
By Moldy Oldy Computer Geek (United States)

Don't waste your money on this item. It's no more effective than any aerosol carburetor cleaner/degreaser you can buy at an auto parts store for about five dollars.
The hardened gunk stuck to my bicycle chain and sprockets wouldn't come loose using this spray. I'd have been better off just buying a small can of charcoal fluid and using an old toothbrush to scrub with.

Does the Trick, September 29, 2011
By Chestoozo (Ashburn, VA)

If you're inclined to clean your own bike chain and don't like the plastic chain cleaners from Park Tool, this product does the trick. Before using this product, make sure you have plenty of old newspaper to catch the excess runoff. As the product description says, it completely strips off the old grease, so be sure to carefully apply sufficient oil afterwards to prevent metal-on-metal wear.
If you don't want to spend $10.50 a can plus shipping, consider using an aerosol brake cleaner, which can be purchased at any auto supply store for around $3. It does exactly the same thing as Finish Line's Speed Degreaser but at a fraction of the cost.
I gave this product a 3-star rating only because of the high cost.

Degrease Lightning, November 15, 2010
By McRibIsBack (USA)

|
I used this on my Mountain Bike and it worked pretty well, but not as well as I'd hoped. I was hoping it would just strip everything clean, but maybe that was unrealistic? I guess I don't want it stripping the paint off! I will say the can only lasted for a few cleanings, which for the price was a little disappointing.

Convenient but short lived, August 10, 2010
By JDF (Houston, TX)

The concept is amazing - just spray to remove grease and dirt from chain and casette. No watery mess, no hose, no scrubbing. It seemed to work well for me when I did it, but not convinced it removes as much grease as the old fashioned way. Also, I emptied the bottle after just 2 applications! I might save it for just time limited cleanings and stick with scrubbing when I have time to do it right.

Don't expect a long-lasting spray, April 3, 2012
By desktopia (washington, dc)
|
|
This doesn't work for caked on dirt or grease. Whatever protectant it leaves behind makes it impossible to combine this with a rag or a brush. Everything just gets spread around. It relies on the pressure of the can to take off a good deal of the grease. That's where the problem starts--there's not enough in the can to fully degrease a chain and sprockets that hasn't been cleaned in awhile.
The can, naturally, implores you to apply the solvent liberally. Don't. I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in a product I spent so little money on.

Does the job quickly, but the chemical mess left behind might not be worth it, November 6, 2011
By S.P. (Tennessee, USA)
|
|
My commuting bike's chain was completely caked with black gunk, and normally I'd rather take the time to take the chain off, soak it in something slightly more environmentally friendly, etc., but I was super busy and needed a quick solution. I bought some of this at my LBS, and it worked great: with the first spray, the solid black gunk was just oozing off the drivetrain to expose the silver chain underneath. It comes with a little straw to direct the spray, too, which is nice for getting whatever has collected inside the links.
So yes, this can get your drivetrain pretty clean, and it can do it fast.
But here are the bad parts:
1. I needed a whole can to get my chain to a reasonable level of cleanliness (not shiny and perfect, but acceptable), so this is not a cheap solution.
2. The problem with this as opposed to taking the chain off to clean it or using a chain cleaner tool is that the gunk still has to go somewhere, so it's going to leave a nasty mess on your rear wheel, on your chainstays, and of course on the ground unless you find a clever way to catch the runoff and overspray.
3. This stuff is nasty. Of course, most degreasers are, but this seems especially noxious. It has a billion different warnings about its potential harm to the environment and its toxicity to humans. It eats through plastic: some stray droplets reached my rear wheel, and that was enough to completely disintegrate my rear reflector, which fell apart into about 10 pieces at the lightest touch after I finished cleaning. Use gloves, and maybe other precautions too. Don't get this on or in skin/eyes/any other body part. And watch out for neighboring non-metal bike parts that might be damaged.
It did the job when I was in a hurry, and it was super-easy, but from now on, I'll still plan ahead so that I can clean my drivetrain some other way.

Great cleaner for cassettes and chains, November 3, 2011
By Sandy D. Scott (Seminole, FL USA)
|
|
I have been searching for a painless way to clean bicycle cassettes and chains. This is the solution - it blows the grease and grime right off the cassette and chain and when it dries, the chain is ready to be oiled. The only issue I had was that I sort made a mess of the surrounding area so I intend to use a piece of cardboard behind my target to catch the overspray.

scary good, September 15, 2011
By guiseppe soffiare (University City, MO United States)
|

I agree with the other reviewers that a can goes fast--but there's nothing like this stuff for getting the nitty-gritty, business end of your bike squeaky clean. My one concern is that I suspect that, along with all the accumulated road grit and sordid grease, the spray probably flushes the lube out of your bottom bracket and hub--but man, is it fun to use.

Great Bicycle Cleaner!, September 4, 2011
By SpencerY
|
|
I used the product to clean the cassette, chairing and derailleurs on my road bike. I was amazed and how quickly this product worked. Just spray and the grease and grime will run off. The product also worked to remove some gum that hardened on to the bike frame after being run over. Works great and removes gunk fast!
Make sure to place something underneath your work area to avoid staining a hard surface like concrete.

A degreaser that does the job. Period., May 5, 2011
By Geocentricity
|
|
The directions say use liberally, and you'll understand why they say this when you unleash this for the first time. The pressure + degreasing agent cleans virtually anything on your bike parts.
Pros:
- Easy to use
- cleans like a charm
Con:
- Will need to use a cloth to wipe off the leftover gunk on your parts. The degreaser does break the bond between the gunk and the parts, so it wipes cleanly off. So this isn't really a Con..
Overall:
No need to go to a bike-shop for cleanings is a blessing for both your wallet and your inner peace. Know that when you use this product your bike is being properly maintained.

AWESOME. MUST BUY, December 1, 2010
By Cory G (Worcester,MA USA)

I bought this degreaser to degrease a 30 yr old road bike rear derailleur and chain. You wouldn't believe the 30 yrs of grime and gunk on that chain, that when I used the degreaser Man, it looked better than ever. I didn't want to replace any parts (except tubes/tires) I would highly recommend this product. It forcefully comes out the that long can. Just remember a little does go a long way.
I would buy this again. As well as the other finishline products.

Whoa, November 21, 2011
By Stu

This stuff is awesome. I'm not a mechanic, but wanted to give my bike an overhaul after long miles all winter outside. This speed degreaser literally blew all the grease and gunk off my drivetrain. So fast and clean, it felt like cheating. Caution: it blew the grease onto my floor... Better than on the drivetrain, but do it outside.

Effective, but goes fast and REQUIRES wiping., November 7, 2011
By Dangles (USA)
|
|
The formula used for this degreaser is quite effective and leaves no grease behind...if you wipe it down before it dries.
It claims that you don't need to wipe...anyone with basic knowledge of chemical solubility will realize that this is a lie. The degreaser itself evaporates, but does not carry the dirty grease with it into the gas phase which means anything that doesn't actually drip off the bike will remain on the bike after the degreaser dries.
The pressure is great...but this also means you waste a lot if you use it willy nilly (you can go through an entire can if you don't brush your bike first). It's good for getting into tight spots, but I would avoid wasting it on open areas that you can easily wipe down with a cheaper solvent and a rag.
Overall, a nearly essential product for getting bikes clean, but should be carefully used for tight spots and wiped down if it doesn't drip off the bike.

No need for this, February 5, 2012
By Reny Woo
|

I don't see what it does to my chain. It does not remove the dirt as it says in the product description. Dirt remained on the bike the same as before I applied it to the bike. You don't need this; just use a cloth to take the dirt away with a swipe and buy a lube for your chain.

Speedy Degreaser, January 29, 2012
By A. Post
|
|
This does exactly what it says it will, speedily degreasing greasy parts. I have used this for my bike but i'm sure it has many more useful applications. It's not an endless supply of the stuff so I wouldn't go around spraying it just to make things look nice and shiny, but if you've got a project to do and need to get in there, this will make it much easier and do a lot of the cleaning for you. Not sure where it all goes but it does basically seem to evaporate/disappear. use in a well venilated area. A few sprays over a grease-blackened rear-cassette will send it dripping, and a few more will basically finish it off. Obviously you will need to re-grease that which has been cleaned/worked on, and for good measure nearby moving parts that may have been affected. for what it does it's a great a novel tool and i'd buy it again.

FINISH LINE EXTREME FLUORO, December 27, 2011
By diamondjime

LOVE THIS PRODUCT! CLEANS ALL GREASE (TEFLON INCLUDED) EFFORTLESSLY WITH NO RESIDUE. DRIES VERY QUICKLY. IT WAS ESPECIALLY HANDY WHEN I REBUILT MY XTR V-BRAKES WHICH HAVE 36 VERY TINY BEARING IN EACH SET. SO FAR NO ISSUES WITH EATING UP ANY PAINT OR MELTING ANY MATERIALS I'VE CLEANED OR USED IT NEAR. IT PENETRATES THE SMALL TIGHT AREAS GREAT AND TO AID THE PROCESS I USE CANNED AIR TO BLOW OUT DIRT AND SOLVENT TO CUT DOWN ON REPEATED SPRAYING. DEFINATELY USE IN A VENTILATED AREA. IT WORKS GREAT FOR RINSING MY TOOTH BRUSHES I USE FOR SCRUBBING HEAVILY CAKED AREAS. AS A PLUS I HAVE USED IT ON CLOTH MATERIAL WITH NO STAINING OR COLOR RUN BUT WOULD SUGGEST CAUTION FOR THAT APPLICATION.

Blasted away 2 years of grime!, October 31, 2011
By Larry M. York (State College, PA)
|
|
I hadn't taken the care of my chain and gears the way I should have so decided to get more serious about it as I'm attempting to do all my general maintenance. This stuff sprays out fast with the nozzle attached and literally blows grease and dirt away if you spray it on the chain or gears. A more efficient use of it might be to spray it into a brush and then scrub (I purchased the same manufacturer's grunge brush and it did the trick for me). Spraying directly onto the chain and gears I used about 2/3 of the can I think. I was more prudent cleaning the rims of my tires which seemed to work great too - took off at that brake dust.
There are, I'm sure, cheaper alternatives, but this product was very convenient and got the job done.

Speedy and emptying can, May 2, 2012
By Edward A Yu
|

This stuff worked incredibly well on my VERY dirty chain. It blasted away the grunge without a need for wiping it down with a brush or towels. However, by the time I got the the third of fourth link on my motorcycle chain, the contents of this can were empty. =
This may be alright for you if you have a bicycle. But the speed at which you run out of this stuff, I think, doesn't justify the cost of it.

I used this to clean the crank on my bicycle. I sprayed it once, let it soak in for a few more seconds then sprayed just a touch more so I could then wipe it off but wiping it was almost completely unnecessary. The grease and dirt just fell off with the second spray. This stuff is ridiculous! My crankset was filthy after years of not cleaning it properly. Now, despite being 20 years old, it looks almost like new again.
