Do you impress yourself out there, pedaling right through the gridlock or straight up that gnarly hill? Good thing the Giro Phase Helmet features the Acu Dial 2 fit system, which utilizes a dial for single-handed adjustment, to accommodate your ever-expanding head. And the 27 vents will keep that massive cranium cool by bringing in fresh air and forcing stale air out. Hey, no one likes a hothead. Should your rising center of gravity throw you off balance, the Polycarbonate shell and In-Mold EPS liner, which provides more protection and ventilation for the weight, will shelter your heavy hubris. You really love yourself, don't you? It's hard to deny, though, that buying a helmet that offers so much performance for the money is a pretty heady move. Cool, compact, durable and a great value, this helmet is everything you aspire in a helmet. Acu Dial 2 Fit System 27 Cooling Vents Snap-fit 2 Visor In-mold - EPS liner and Polycarbonate shell

Great cost / performance / fit, February 11, 2011

Changed from an old Bell Oasis to the Phase. I ride MTB in (mostly) and off road. In the process tried different models from other suppliers like Bell and up and down in Giro product line. Ended up with this helmet. Very solid feeling not like other low priced options in market and close enough to the more expensive ones. Please bear in mind that head measurement is an indicative of helmet size but heads some are more elongated than others. In spite of same meas. helmet fitting is a little tricky. Other helmets like Bell Venture caused some uncomfortable pressure on my head . This one gave a better fit. I do not like the road helmet + baseball cap underneath to protect my face from the sun. So having a visor is a plus, specially since I ride under rainy conditions frequently. Highly recommended product. I do ride 700+ miles per month.

very pleased, November 17, 2009

I am very happy with this product. I found it in the colour I wanted and didn't have to wait for the store to track it down and order it.
Only thing is there is an ID sticker to put on it and cannot find a flat surface to put it on..a little bit strange

Excellent helmet, May 21, 2010
By AndyM (Chicago, IL)

I have had 3 Giro Phase helmets, and had two accidents where my head hit the ground at a decent speed and both times I walked away with no head injury although the helmet was clearly beyond saving. I give Giro a lot of credit for a well designed helmet and a great fit - highly recommended.

Great helmet, reasonable price, April 16, 2010
By Jasper (Langhorne, PA USA)

I bought the matte black helmet for $60 after shipping and I've been really happy with the helmet so far. Its really easy to adjust and sits on your head nicely with hardly any discomfort. Fortunately i haven't had to test the durability of it yet but I feel when that time comes it will hold up just fine.

Great looks, but terrible comfort, July 14, 2011
By Gregory L. Stanley
|
|
I've been mountain biking for 12 years and have owned numerous helmets, so I'm not new to biking helmets. I bought a Giro Phase online but was very displeased with the comfort. The worst problem was that the dial adjustment on the back seemed to press into the back of my head like a knot. Even at that, the band didn't tighten enough to keep the helmet from shifting when I shook my head. Also, the band that the dial uses to tighten the fit ran very low on the side of the helmet, coming down against the top of my ears. If I didn't wear glasses, that might be okay, but it pressed on the ends of the earpieces of the glasses, pressing them into my head. In addition, the chin straps didn't lie flat and were a little uncomfortable, though they may well relax with time. The main problem was the uncomfortable adjustment mechanism. I think Giro makes some of the best looking helmets, but I ride often, long, and hard, and I can't have a helmet that is uncomfortable and takes my attention off the trail. I sent it back and bought another brand, which fit like it was made for me the instant I put it on.

Good all around MTB helmet for under $100, January 14, 2012
By Chris M.
|
|
Took a major spill the other day where my head whip-lashed against a concrete sidewalk. Rang my bell a bit and that's it. I would have suffered a traumatic brain injury without it. No damage to the helmet. I know, you're supposed to destroy and replace any helmet after an impact. Who says that? Helmet makers, that's who! There's nothing wrong with this helmet. I've tried tapping tests and minor impacts and this helmet is fine. I'm not throwing away a perfectly good $75 helmet. I've worn more comfortable helmets that also cost a lot more money. I also like the low profile. You really can't go wrong for a helmet under $100.

Good value for nice helmet, but Acu Dial 2 was defective, October 20, 2011
By milman517 (Springfield, VA)
|
|
This is a pretty decent helmet from Giro, but the one I received was defective. The Acu Dial 2 fit mechanism would not stay tight. I'd read some similar complaints about this model, but figured I'd give it a try. I also tried it on in a local outdoor store and noticed that several of the same model Giro Phase helmets had the same problem where the Acu Dial 2 fit system would not hold the tightness setting and would come loose.
I must also note that the helmet I received from Amazon appeared to be a returned item, as the box was very worn and the packaging seemed like it had been unpacked and re-packed several times. I assume it was probably returned due to the defective Acu Dial 2 fit mechanism.
In the end, I called Giro directly and they gladly sent a replacement Acu Dial 2 strap to my home (received in about 4-5 days). I easily replaced it and now have a fully functional Giro Phase helmet. At the discounted price I got this for from Amazon, this was well worth the aggravation of contacting Giro for the replacement Acu Dial 2 strap.
Great price on a good helmet... which I bought to replace an older Giro Indicator helmet that may very well have saved my life a few weeks earlier when I took a nasty spill on the street.
I would recommend this helmet.

Great Upgrade from the basic, October 1, 2011
By Brenda F. Bell
|
|
I purchased this as a replacement/upgrade for an old Bell Vela and a Louis Garneau Fast. It's not as bulky as the LG, sized nicely, retains its sizing. Three things I don't like: it's too low for my Oakleys to fit comfortably with the helmet (though that is as like as not a function of the Straight Jacket design, which -- when and where I purchased it -- was the only model available in my prescription), the chin straps feel like they are a bit twisted no matter how I adjust them, and the front padding leaves an indentation at the top of my forehead which remains for hours after I've finished riding.
I use this with the visor on the road, maxing out at about 30mph on long, straight descents. Except for the few issues above, I've been very happy with my investment.

Disappointed, August 22, 2011
By GemstoneMD (Madison, WI)

I bought this helmet to replace an old Giro helmet. It seemed to be the most similar.
The inside of the helmet did not fit well on my head, even though it is the same exact size as my last helmet- this one is too big. I tried to add the extra pads to take up some of the space, but they just fell out. (be very careful using these- the sticky pad peels off with the paper coating!) I was unable to get replacement pads from Giro or Amazon.
The adjustable wheel on the back is actually difficult to adjust on and off the head- it takes more force than should be necessary and won't adjust tight enough once on my head, so my helmet is always a bit loose.
It looks and feels fine on, but loose. It also does work with a pony tail through the back loop or underneath it, but not as easily as I would like.
Overall, I am disappointed with the helmet after giving it a good try, and would return it but am a few days outside the return window. I don't see why this helmet costs more than other helmets, given that it doesn't fit or adjust as easily as my last giro in the same price range. I would not recommend it.

Disappointed with the Giro Phase, August 1, 2011
By P. McLain (Sammamish, WA USA)
|
|
I've been happy with my old Giro helmet for the last 3 years, but I was disappointed when I upgraded to the Phase. The Phase is bulky and has a poor sizing/retention system. The adjusting wheel at the back did not have a solid click to the ratchet and the helmet would become loose while mountain biking. Not sure if this was a defective unit, or just a poor design. I ended up returning the Phase and bought the Giro Xar instead. I'm very happy with the Xar and highly recommend it. It was worth spending a few extra bucks.Giro Bell Xar All-Mountain Sport Helmet

Perfect fit!, August 24, 2010
By Kristen H. (Granite City, IL United States)

I bought this helmet for my husband because Giro helmets can be ordered to fit the size of your head. My daughter had heard about Giro and ordered one her size for herself and hers fits perfectly, so she recommended them to her dad. My husband has a large head and has trouble finding hats and helmets that fit. We measured his head according to Giro's website and picked out the helmet he wanted from the choices there. We ordered it from Amazon because we love Amazon and the great prices we find there. The helmet fits perfectly and looks great on him. He loves it.

Good looking and comfy, April 5, 2011
By Wilis M. (Illinois, USA)

Bought this for my wife. She finds it to be very comfy and likes that she can pull her ponytail through the back. The visor comes off and in my opinion looks better without it. Utlimately all bike helmets meet the same safety standards so find one that fits your budget and meets your needs.
