Need to train in the winter but don't like the feel of traditional bike trainers? Turn to the Minoura ActionRoller Advance, which makes indoor training feel as natural as riding on the road.
The trainer's 3 roller drums deliver a realistic cycling workout. | The ActionRoller Advance includes three freely spinning roller drums: two in the rear for your back tire and one in the front. All you need to do is maintain your balance--no sloppy handling--and you'll ride as fast and as hard as you want. The trainer works by taking advantage of the gyro momentum from your bike wheels. Because the bike isn't supported on the sides, you have to maintain a steady forward momentum, just like with real riding. The trainer accommodates a variety of wheel sizes--from 24 to 27 inches--thanks to its adjustable 3.15-inch roller drums. Simply move the front and rear rollers in or out to the proper distance (the front roller offers five positions, while the rear roller offers two). And when you're done with your training session, the ActionRoller Advance folds up for easy storage. Specifications
- Resistance: 7 levels, non-remote
- Compatible wheel size: 24 to 27 inches
- Roller drum size: 3.15 inches in diameter, 18.1 inches wide
- Dimensions: 22.8 inches by 4.33 inches
- Max load: 265 pounds (including bike)
- Weight: 10.8 pounds
- Warranty: 1 year (roller drums); 5 years (frame)

First Rollers I've Bought; Great Choice, November 16, 2010
By C. Ramirez

I bought these rollers because the weather where I live is just terrible. We get 100+ summers and dry, frigid winters, so rollers seemed like a great option for me. I'm not a professional cyclist by any means, but I still think this is a great purchase.
The Good:
For the price, these are an awesome deal. The materials are high quality, and it was easy to assemble (took about 20 minutes).
They're relatively quiet.
Accommodates my 700cc bike easily.
A lot more fun and involving than a stationary bike, so time really flies by!
Folds up easily for storage.
Haven't had any rubber come off my tires! (I've seen videos where this is the case with other rollers)
The Bad:
This can be said about any rollers, but there IS a learning curve. It only took me about an hour to really get the hang of it, but there were some spills along the way. It's a lot easier if you have some kind of step to get on because you can easily lose your balance otherwise.
The website claims that since the diameter of the rollers is shorter than conventional rollers, there is more resistance when pedaling. Supposedly, it's comparable to cycling against a slight headwind, but I don't really see it that way. There might be some more-than-expected resistance when starting out, but once you're going over 10 mph, it's smooth sailing.
Verdict:
Love 'em. Great price, great quality, great investment. If you're thinking about buying rollers, these are a great starter set.

Advanced Rollers are not for everybody!!!!, December 2, 2010
By Richard LeLacheur

Awesome product, great natural resistance, really well built, no need for bells and whistles!!
These Advanced Rollers are not for first timers or inexperienced riders!!!!
A lot less mundane than a stationary Mag/Fluid trainer or spin bike. I have been putting about 12-15 miles on them every night for the last few weeks and I am still gaining balance. These FORCE you to become smoother and use a lot more of your core naturally because they feed off of your body's EVERY movement... (Don't lean over for that water bottle or get lazy and push on the bars or BOOM!!!!) When your clipped in, you only have fractions of a second to react before hitting the floor! I am going to be such a fluid rider once I hit the pavement in the spring!!

New Rollers, January 1, 2011
By Sean A. Fontaine (Denver, CO United States)

Easy assembly, quality materials, and easy to carry around. These come to work w/me so I can ride @ the firehouse. On the first ride, it was initially easier to pedal sitting up w/hands near my quads, after an hour or so can put hands down to bars w/a light touch and not eat $#!@ on the floor. Like any rollers, starting in a doorway and learning your balance point will make life easier and you'll hit the floor less. No complaints w/these rollers so far. Would recommend these to others looking for a lower cost roller than Kreitlers.

good workout, December 6, 2010

I bought this product a few months ago now and have used it a few times, but have had some trouble. I first set it up and there was no problems there, apart from the bad english on the instructions which makes things fun to interpret.
I then went to put my Specialized Hardrock L-sized on the rollers and realised straight away that this was not going to work. Although there are a few settings to adjust for the length of your bike, my bike was too long for the roller to sit on it while at the longest setting. When starting to ride you would go forward off the front roller everytime. Thankfully my wife's bike is a shorter length frame, a 16" Merida, as it meant that I could put her bike on it and even though it is a small bike I manage to ride on it fine.
Next issue was encountered when I tried to ride the bike with 26" X 2.25 tires. They squash far too much on the rollers (as the point of contact is so small and being near 100kilos doesn't help too much) and takes so much energy to ride (which is what you want, but not this much), that I had to buy slicks for it and living in Ecuador has made this near impossible. I believe that the 1" tires I have on the mountain bike now are fine as any wider, which I tried (1.5"), still squash and make for extremely hard riding (it's the point I know, but just a little too hard).
Last one was the noise from the 2.25" tires, the tread makes so much noise that watching tv or listen to radio or voice is near imposible (maybe OK with head phones, I didn't try), but this was one of the reasons I bought it, to listen to talks while riding. Buying the slicks has made this a non-issue, but you need to know some of these things before buying.
I guess they have made this for a road racing bike and not a mountain bike, although I never realised before that road bikes were shorter (maybe they are not). Basically if centre to centre on your hub is greater than 1090mm (no idea of inches) then you will have trouble using this roller. A shame really as it is really well built and a great tool to keep you fit. I find that it is a far greater workout than riding on the road and being in Ecuador there are a lot less dogs that can bite!!
Additional note (10 Jan 2011): My wife an I have been sharing this (we take turns each night) and we both love it. The new tyres have worked really well and there are no complaints. I would recommend putting a towel under the bike while training, especially if in a place without a draft, as the workout is great. I just got off from 50 minutes and am soaked through. Fantastic.

Minoura Action roller bicycle trainer, February 4, 2011
By Bobby Chen (Bakersfield CA)
|

I have been using this roller trainer almost every day since I received it a couple of mounths ago. On bad weather days I will put 20 to 25 miles on it. Out of the box, it assembled quickly, but the front guard arrived about a week later, so I learned to ride it without the guard in place. I learned how to ride it in a very short time, (I learned a bunch watching U Tube before the trainer arrived) I placed it next to a wall while learning, and was able to ride it in 15 or 20 minutes. I know that their are better and more expensive trainers out there ( I think), but I still give this thing 5 stars. For the price, you cannot go wrong. Just my opion.

Difficult to peddal on., January 11, 2011
By bikingman82

I ride on a mountain bike with street tires and I have to say I was surprised at how much resistance and difficulty there was in peddling on this roller. The Minoura Action Roller went together easily and it works as advertised. It is an extreme workout.

Solid., December 29, 2010
By Mature Metalhead (Reno, NV United States)

This is my first experience with a roller, so I don't know what to compare it to. It works as advertised. It's solid and sturdy. I've been using it for a few weeks now and it doesn't appear to be wearing my tires at all. It's a bit noisy from the tires making contact (the rollers themselves are silent), so I suspect all rollers are noisy. It folds up easily for storage.
It took about 5 tries to get the hang of it. You naturally think you're going to fall off, but then it clicks...just like riding a bike for the first time. It's a great workout. I only need to ride half the time on it to get the same workout as street riding. And because of the balancing, you get a nice core workout too that you probably wouldn't get on a trainer.

Hello, my name is Sonja Kullberg and I just recently purchased your item for my boyfriend and I. I have to say I'm so not happy with this item. I've hurt myself many times and so has my boyfriend. Plus the product feels very cheap and does not seem to fit the bike very well. But the yet the product dose say, it does fit my boyfriends bike and mine. After you read this can you please send a return autherization, or if anything can you point me in the right direction. I like the service that your company gives me when I purchase items. I hope it does not change returning this item. Thank you for your time, hope to talk to you soon.
