| Product Description: | | | | | VFS (Variable Fluid System) The VFS combines a fluid and magnetic unit which offers expanded levels of resistance. Specially designed double cup (patent pending) internal vane system moves the fluid through the unit to powerfully generate exponential resistance while the magnetic side helps to balance the unit by increasing the power range of the system. Minouras heaviest ever 1.5 kgs machined steel flywheel. Convenient foot pedal engages/disengages the roller in seconds. 2-year warranty on the resistance unit and a 5-year warranty on the frame. | |

| | I absolutely love my trainer. I have been using this trainer for over 2 years. Because of the gravity wheel engagement design, this trainer does not wear out my tires. In fact, I have not replaced a tire on my bike for 3 years and still have plenty of tread. Many other trainers I have seen increase the resistance by squeezing down on your tire harder (threaded hand wheel increaing force on tire). This trainer does not work that way.
I trained for several triathlons including a 70.3 half ironman. I have ridden for up to 4 hours straight on this trainer. It feels like riding on the road. It is a little aggressive in its resistance, so it feels like you are biking up a slight grade all the time, even in your lowest gear. This will only make you a stronger cyclist. The mag / hydraulic system is smooth and quiet. The resistance appears to be proportional with gear selection and rpm cadence. Flaws....none. I highly recommend.
I am 5'6" 150lb male riding 3 to 5 times a week. I ride a Quintana Roo Seduza 2008 and a Fuji Roubaix 2005.

| | First off, I like Minoura products. It's just that it appears that this unit has a design flaw.
Specifically: There is only one thru bolt which connects the two black plastic portions of the unit to one another. This means that the unit is unstable & can "walk"... should this happen: the two black plastic pieces tilt up where they join & act as a brake on your rear wheel. No option but to dismount & fix. Depending upon how aggressive you ride - this may be every 30 seconds or never.
Additional details: * My setup is on carpet, with a yoga mat under it. Based upon what I'm seeing, the unit may be OK directly on a hard surface, but don't hold me to it (I've not tried it) * I'm an intermediate level rider. Semi- but not super-aggressive. I'll stand for "hills", and I get bored if I just spin for the duration.
If the unit had two thru bolts, this would not be a problem. Alas, it does not. It has just one & so I give it a cautionary score.
Like I said at the beginning, I have no issue w/Minoura, it's just that this model might need a little re-work.
