  • Easy-to-adjust webbing strap for a comfortable fit under the chin

Product Description:
Dial Fit adjustable system adds ease10 flow vents to keep you coolVisor offers increased shade while ridingEasy to adjust webbing for a comfortable fit
The Schwinn Intercept is a lightweight and sturdy bike helmet for cycling enthusiasts who want advanced comfort and fit features at a more moderate price point. First and foremost, the helmet provides the custom fit you need for comfort and safety with the Dial Fit system. This system allows you to tension the helmet for an exact fit by turning a dial at the back of the helmet. This eliminates the need for the extra foam spacer cushions common to inexpensive bike helmets, which also can compress and compromise the fit over time. The Dial Fit system also makes it easy to adjust the under-chin webbing strap. Designed to keep you cool even in hot weather, the Intercept offers ten flow vents to ensure airflow and is outfitted with heat-sealed pads that help control the build-up of perspiration inside the helmet. The helmet is also equipped with an optional snap on/off visor to keep the sun off your face and out of your eyes.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Helmet for People with Big Heads, Superb Value but Annoying Straps, August 31, 2009
By T. Shih (Berkeley, CA)
My head is ~62cm around and finding a decent helmet is usually an epic struggle. (I usually shy away from one-size-fits-all because they almost never fit) I currently wear a Giro Eclipse (size XL) that costs 4 times more than this one and I have to say that with the proper adjustments, the Schwinn Intercept fits just as well.

The Intercept utilizes a fit-ring which basically encircles the head and has a dial in the back so you can adjust the tension. (The back of the ring should hold the helmet against the lower-rear of the head which prevents the helmet from tipping forwards) My main issue with the helmet is that the fasteners on the side-straps are not the usual locking clips, rather they are a rotating dial thingamajig that has an open/close position but doesn't actually lock. The result is that even in the closed position, you can still move the straps if you tug with moderate force. (Effectively, while the helmet is easy to adjust, the side straps most likely will not retain their position)

I bought the Schwinn Intercept on a whim because I found out at the last minute that there was a bike test-ride event over the weekend and I didn't have my usual helmet handy. After an intense day of both mountain/trail and road biking, I have to say that I'm pretty impressed. I found that the included visor worked pretty well and the helmet was comfortable and unobtrusive.

On the flip-side, I did get pretty hot and sweaty , and it wasn't a particularly hot day, so the 10 smallish vents left something to be desired. Also, I found that after taking the helmet off and putting it back on, I needed to fix the side-strap because it moved a little. (The side strap should make the Y-shape with the V part under the ear)

I can't say anything about crash-worthiness but it is notable that this helmet did receive recognition from Consumer Reports as being a Best Buy when it comes to safety. (It should be taken with a grain of salt as Consumer Reports only tests a handful of helmets)

Compared to my Giro Eclipse: The Eclipse (and pretty much any expensive helmet) uses in-mold construction which basically means that the foam and the outer shell are molded together in a single step. (versus having a bare foam helmet and gluing/taping the shell on afterwards as is the case with the Intercept) The in-mold processes effectively bonds the foam to the shell, creating a more durable and sturdy helmet that passes CPSC testing while using much less material. Thus, my Eclipse is much lighter and has 24 big vents and grooves inside for more airflow. Also, the straps and fasteners are much higher quality and they stay in place indefinitely.

Overall, it's a great helmet for the money. It's good to see higher-end features trickling their way down to mass-market products such as the fit-ring and adjustment dial.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Two years of good service, July 19, 2009
By wuogkat (Swainsboro, Ga)
I have had this helmet for more than two years now, and it has been great! No problems, but then again I haven't had any accidents. I'm not complaining, but I obviously cannot vouch for protection. It is very comfortable and the visor, although it appears small, makes quite a difference. I would definitely recommend this helmet.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Love My Schwinn, May 26, 2009
By queensboro gal (Queens NY)
I ordered this helmet because I am a fan of Schwinn all my bike life.
I love the color and the straps are easy to adjust.
The removal visor is a plus and it is lite weight, you forget that you have it on. I never wore helmets in the past but as you get older you become wiser....

Ordered two of these helmets. One for myself and one for my wife. They were just as we expected and we are completely satisfied with them. I would recommend this product to others.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  I think it is equal to the $70+ brands, October 18, 2009
By eee (WESTCHESTER, NY)
I got this Schwinn Intercept Adult blue bike helmet and use it while riding and I hope never to "really use it" since I dont intend to fall or slide off my bike.
I visited bike stores and other stores and pushed and tried to flex and test the strength of the dense styrofoam type plastic that these things are made of and felt that the expensive brands and the store brands and the Schwinn line of helmets all seem to come from the same factories in China.
I added some red and white reflective tapes in back and some on the front sides. (I uploaded an image)
The straps are easy to adjust for indivudual fit and the rear thumb knob allows tightening the head "ring" so that the helmet stays on according to proper use. Honestly, the visor on this and another helmet I have is so shallow that they dont really keep much sun away from a user's eyes.
If I should ever fall and the helmet takes any impact I will discard it and get another since I read that once they have been impacted in being "really" used they should not be kept to insure they will protect the user if needed the next time

I dont know what else to say
It is a good helmet; I dont have any video to upload.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Great Fit for a Larger Head Size!, July 3, 2010
By kindred spirit (God's Country)
This helmet is great if you have a larger head. I am sure it is good for small also as it has this floating adjustable band that you tighten in the back. I can never find hats to fit me and found the same problem when I went looking for a bike helmet. I am just starting to ride my bike again and can only ride to the corner which is not far at all but being a klutz I think it was time to wear a helmet. Wisdom comes with age and also with recovering from so many injuries.

To top it off it is such a wonderful shade of blue.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  good price for a bicycle helmet, July 14, 2010
By C. Lim
This is my first bicycle helmet so i would not have any comparison knowledge. I like the price and the ability to be able to change the helmet tightness through the back strap adjuster. This has been a real convenience as others in the family would be able to use this helmet. To add to this feature, I do not have to make any guess work when choosing a helmet size. Helmet seems sturdy so far and hope i do not have to test this fact out for real. I am very happy with this purchase and will update if anything else does come up.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Waaaaay Too Hot, April 30, 2011
By Old Hippie (St. Louis, MO.)
If you live in a cool climate - this Schwinn helmet may be OK for you. Anywhere else? Forget it! I had one of these several years ago (before I knew better). Simply not enough openings to allow proper air flow. And none in the rear - NONE!

Staying cool in warmer months is very important. Look into some thing like a Giro Indicator Sport Bike Helmet or an Avenir Rush Bike Helmet before shelling out $18.36 for this piece of - fill in word of your choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Schwinn quality, September 27, 2010
By joeydf
Very happy with my purchase. The Schwinn Intercept Adult bike helmet is comfortable to wear, easy to adjust and provides adequate ventilation. I am a novice inner city cyclist and although there are more expensive bike helmets I feel confidant in my selection of the Schwinn helmet, after all they have been producing bicycles and bike products for over a hundred years.

1.0 out of 5 stars.  Too Small!, August 22, 2011

Giving it one star because I want people with big heads to notice. Seemed like a nice helmet but couldn't even get it on my head. For the price, I bought the Giro Venti instead and it was much better size-wise.

I love this helmet. I was looking for a budget helmet for my commute to work. It's affordable, looks great, and has a lot of adjustment. You can adjust the size and the side straps. The side straps can be adjusted for length, backward and forward. No crash test yet :)

By Lana K. (Indianapolis, IN)
Great adult bike helmet that I would recommend to everyone. It took a few tries to get the strap in order and fitting nicely on my head but after that very simple. Lite and safe. I had a small issue trying to contact customer service about my order but we worked it out.

inherited a bike... wanted to be street legal, so i looked on line for helmets
the price was right - couldn't find anything as good for nearly double the price
we bought two - one for baby girl and myself... now we ride our hogs with pride - zooming by law authorities, knowing we can own the road with our new helmets... thank you schwinn for making an affordable helmet and thank you amazon for introducing the two of us
highly recommend this light and easily adjustable helmet for any recreational rider - team marquez

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Nice Helmet, December 27, 2011
By exm4735
Very Comfortable. No idea if it protects well. Hope I never have to find out. One thing I really like it that it is very 'understated' in it's design and color. I do not like the 'my head is on fire' look!

4.0 out of 5 stars.  Good Value, October 9, 2011
By tjo3528 (Phoenix)
This is a decent helmet, especially for the money. The one-dial adjuster works very well. Th bill fell off right away, and had to be glued on (it's just pressed in when new). Otherwise, it does the job and the airflow though the many slots is very good.

Be careful to its size. This helmet is too small for my head. It's better to buy a helmet in a local store because we are able to try whether it fits or not.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Perfect for Moderate Rider!, May 23, 2012
By S. Ehr (San Antonio, TX United States)
This is a perfect helmet for a moderate, maybe 5-10 miles a week, rider. Also fits perfect for a smaller, I have a size 6 7/8 head, size head. Do I need fancy? No. Do I need bells and whistles? No. Do I need long range and hours on end comfort? No. Do I need a good price for a good product? Yes.

3.0 out of 5 stars.  Meh., April 20, 2012
By Laura
Bought this helmet three weeks ago, when I started bicycling again after many years, and was initially pleased with it. It was inexpensive and easy to size on my medium-sized head. Not so pleased now; the sizing ring is held on with Velcro, which is already losing its ability to stick to the inside of the helmet. When I realized that, I didn't feel very confident trusting my life to it and replaced the helmet with a more expensive Giant Talos helmet. The Giant feels more comfortable, isn't held together with Velcro, has better airflow, and I don't have to pull the sizing ring down every time I put it on (I didn't even know that was a problem until it wasn't one with the new helmet.) You do get what you pay for.

5.0 out of 5 stars.  Just what we wanted, March 30, 2012
By Love to shop (Las Vegas, NV)
The sizing says adult but I bought this for my 9 year old and it is perfect (the packaging says 14 and up). We usually need a bigger hat size so I figured we'd be fine ordering the adult size. There is a dial that adjusts the fit of the helmet by that, I know he won't grow out of it.
