4 out of 5 stars.  Good entry level e-bike, January 30, 2010
I bought this e-bike on sale at an excellent price.
Cheap chinese construction, on par with department store bikes.
Everything works well - as advertised, no complaints there.
I will need to get some more miles on it to see how things wear and hold up.
On my first time out, three miles into the ride, the rear tire had a blow out.
No punctures, the thin inner tube just popped.
I weigh 240 pounds, so I am at the maximum weight limit of this bike.
The tube was replaced with a heavy duty thick wall tube,
and has held up well since then.

The battery does not have much range, it averages about five miles for me.
Results will vary up or down depending on weight, inclines, and motor usage.

My only real complaint is the packaging. When I unpacked the bike,
it had some minor damage to the rear derallier hanger tab, it was bent inward
not allowing for proper shifting of the gears. I could see how other things
might be damaged due to improper handling of the box. This bike is HEAVY!
The packaging isnt up to the task of preventing this type of damage.
I have some experience working on bikes, so the repair was an easy one.

Another item of note is if one has to fix a flat on the rear tire,
it is a much more complicated procedure than a normal bicycle
due to the way the motor is mounted.
The electric cable leading into the motor is "hardwired" and has no connectors,
so the motor must remain on the bike and it is extremely difficult
to separate the motor from the rear wheel while removing the wheel itself.
Not a job that I would want to do while on the road away from home.
It is possible if one carries the right tools and grows a third hand.
The addition of a motor cable connector by the manufacturer
would solve this problem.
The motor could then be removed while still being attached to the wheel,
and the tire could be patched without all of the extra disassembly noted above.

One last item of note. Nowhere in the owners manual or on Currie's website
do they state disassembly procedures for the rear wheel
in case one needs to repair a flat.
Take it to the shop or be very mechanically inclined if this to be attempted.

In closing, I think that this a good entry level e-bike at a great price point.
(on sale, not at the full price of $500)
I enjoy it very much. Once underway with the motor running,
it's weight isnt much of an issue.
With the addition of a motor cable connector,
rear wheel removal wouldn't be so difficult.

3 out of 5 stars.  Decent but experiencing some problems, January 30, 2010
Bought this bike back in end of December 2009/Beginning of January of 2010. Shipping was fast and received the product in a decent fashion (no dents or broken box or pieces). Setting it up wasnt too bad, took about half an hour to piece everything together.

Riding it is fun. I usually bike to work on my othe bike and it takes me roughly 15 minutes going up hills and being tired afterwards upon arriving. With the bike, casual biking takes me 7-8 minutes and I have energy for work!

Only reason why I gave it 3 stars was because I've been using the bike for about 2-3 weeks now and its been running fine but now when I ride it with motor assist, theres some "clicking/stuttering" from the motor and then it doesn't work. Let me clarify: When I turn the throttle, I hear and feel the motor whining as I'm sitting on the bike seat, and I see that the motor is spinning the chain attached to it. But the chain is not spinning my rear wheel! Normally it does. Really random. The weird part is, sometimes when I dont move the bike at all and let it rest for a few seconds and turn the throttle, the motor can move the rear wheel again, but if I let go of the throttle while im biking and turn it again, nothing happens. All I hear and feel is the motor/chain spinning but my rear wheel is not moving. Everything was fine until this happened.

So not sure how I totally feel about this product. Its good when it worked, but its a hassle when it doesnt work. Anybody experiencing the same problem I am?

5 out of 5 stars.  I am very impressed with this E-bike!, January 9, 2010
Prompt initial delivery by Amazon.com. Easy to assemble with tools SUPPLIED by manufacturer. All I did was clean & wax the components prior to assembly, then added high-temperature grease to the various assembly components & axle bearing (packed grease in edges by finger - best as possible).

The adjustments are very close to being perfect, and very rideable as-is.

I am very impressed with the smoothness and power of this Electric Bicycle! It's a very well made product.

There are two methods to drive this E-bike: (1) pedal assist (kind of a "turbo charge" assist to your manual pedaling - and there are SEVEN gears!), and (2) 100% Electronic Drive. Either way has its advantages: Pedal Assist gives you more top-end speed and greater range (giving the battery a break and probably pulling less load on the 450w DC motor), and 100% E-drive is just amazing.

It's interesting that Currie Technologies took the time to figure out "lock-out" for the front brake... so if you're planning on trying a "burn out" while holding the front brake (left finger pull), then think again, because Currie cleverly disabled the E-drive when the front brake level is pulled (there is an electric line feeding to/from the front brake)... not that I was thinking about doing a burn-out, mind you. ;-)

Cost-effect? Yes Solid bicycle, even usable without its E-drive and/or battery, but 10x the fun WITH the E-drive.

I purchased this bicycle as an experiment to determine if I wanted to convert an automobile to Electronic Drive... If my lasting impression about the possibilities are any where near my first impressions of this simple bicycle, I will do an automobile EV conversion.

Try this bike, you'll like it.

And remember, you can add an additional Battery Power supply (there are two slots - one on either side of the back rack), which operate one-at-a-time, providing more range (they're not wired in series, haha).

I highly recommend this bike, and when purchased from Amazon, I know I've bought with confidence.

In my instance, the original bike shipped with a cracked battery supply. ONE Email to Amazon.com fixed that problem, and within 4 days, I had a replacement sitting at my doorstep.

Very impressive customer support by Amazon. I have never been disappointed by anything I've bought from Amazon. They always stand by their products and make the decision to buy - easy!

Bravo, Amazon!

5 out of 5 stars.  Nice & easy ride., October 5, 2009
Really zips around. I bought a spare battery but the spare doesn't seem to have the zip of the one that came with the bike.

5 out of 5 stars.  Fantastic Bike!!, September 29, 2009
I purchased this bike eight months ago and have thoroughly enjoyed using it ever since! The bike arrived three days after I placed my order and was extremely easy to put together. All that was required for assembly was to put on the seat, pedals, handle bar, and front wheel. I am not good with tools but even this was a breeze for me. The bike arrived with the electronics and bike brake cabling already hooked up.
Overall this bike is an extremely great value for the money spent. It has become something that I look forward to using everyday, when originally I purchased it just to run short errands and cruise around the neighborhood. I now find myself looking to use my bike in lieu of my car whenever possible. The battery provides great distance and is very easy to charge, making daily use a breeze. I couldn't recommend this bike highly enough! Great buy!!!
